  • Declaring a string array in class header file - compiler thinks string is variable name?

    Hey everybody, I need a bit of a hand with declaring a string array in my class header file in C++. atm it looks like this: //Maze.h #include <string> class Maze { GLfloat mazeSize, mazeX, mazeY, mazeZ; string* mazeLayout; public: Maze ( ); void render(); }; and the constructor looks like this: //Maze.cpp #include <GL/gl.h> #include "Maze.h" #include <iostream> #include <fstream> Maze::Maze( ) { cin >> mazeSize; mazeLayout = new string[mazeSize]; mazeX = 2/mazeSize; mazeY = 0.25; mazeZ = 2/mazeSize; } I'm getting a compiler error that says: In file included from model-view.cpp:11: Maze.h:14: error: ISO C++ forbids declaration of ‘string’ with no type Maze.h:14: error: expected ‘;’ before ‘*’ token and the only sense that makes to me is that for some reason it thinks I want string as a variable name not as a type declaration. If anybody could help me out that would be fantastic, been looking this up for a while and its giving me the shits lol. Cheers guys

    I'm having a weird problem with the following function, which returns a string with all the characters in it after a certain point: string after(int after, string word) { char temp[word.size() - after]; cout << word.size() - after << endl; //output here is as expected for(int a = 0; a < (word.size() - after); a++) { cout << word[a + after]; //and so is this temp[a] = word[a + after]; cout << temp[a]; //and this } cout << endl << temp << endl; //but output here does not always match what I want string returnString = temp; return returnString; } The thing is, when the returned string is 7 chars or less, it works just as expected. When the returned string is 8 chars or more, then it starts spewing nonsense at the end of the expected output. For example, the lines cout << after(1, "12345678") << endl; cout << after(1, "123456789") << endl; gives an output of: 7 22334455667788 2345678 2345678 8 2233445566778899 23456789?,?D~ 23456789?,?D~ What can I do to fix this error, and are there any default C++ functions that can do this for me?

(Which connection string will ASP.NET Configuration tool will use) I'm learning ASP.NET and everywhere and in book that I'm reading now theres connection string named: LocalSqlServer. I want to use my local sql server database instead of sql express to store Roles, Membership and other data. I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create needed data structures in my database. after that I changed my web.config to look like: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(LOCAL); Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> but when I run ASP.NET Configuration tool it says that: "The connection name 'ApplicationServices' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty." ASP.NET Configuration tool uses connection string named: ApplicationServices not LocalSqlServer. cause of that I have to modify web.config to: <connectionStrings> <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Server=(LOCAL); Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> and everything works fine. I wish to know why the hell my web site uses connection string named: ApplicationServices and all books and online documentations uses LocalSqlServer? and how to change it to LocalSqlServer?     I have a task to implement "void makeAmbigram(char*)" that will print on screen ambigram of latin string or return something like 'ambigram not possible'. Guess it's just about checking if string contains only of SNOXZHI and printing string backwards. Or am I wrong ? The third overloaded method does it client-side via the viewmodel. The first two overloads can be done when you have no requirement to add complex JSON objects to your lists. Furthermore, why render and parse the JSON object when you can have it all built and rendered server-side like any other list control.

  • Parse int to string with stringstream

    Well! I feel really stupid for this question, and I wholly don't mind if I get downvoted for this, but I guess I wouldn't be posting this if I had not at least made an earnest attempt at looking for the solution. I'm currently working on Euler Problem 4, finding the largest palindromic number of two three-digit numbers [100..999]. As you might guess, I'm at the part where I have to work with the integer I made. I looked up a few sites and saw a few standards for converting an Int to a String, one of which included stringstream. So my code looked like this: // tempTotal is my int value I want converted. void toString( int tempTotal, string &str ) { ostringstream ss; // C++ Standard compliant method. ss << tempTotal; str = ss.str(); // Overwrite referenced value of given string. } and the function calling it was: else { toString( tempTotal, store ); cout << loop1 << " x " << loop2 << "= " << store << endl; } So far, so good. I can't really see an error in what I've written, but the output gives me the address to something. It stays constant, so I don't really know what the program is doing there. Secondly, I tried .ToString(), string.valueOf( tempTotal ), (string)tempTotal, or simply store = temptotal. All refused to work. When I simply tried doing an implicit cast with store = tempTotal, it didn't give me a value at all. When I tried checking output it literally printed nothing. I don't know if anything was copied into my string that simply isn't a printable character, or if the compiler just ignored it. I really don't know. So even though I feel this is a really, really lame question, I just have to ask: How do I convert that stupid integer to a string with the stringstream? The other tries are more or less irrelevant for me, I just really want to know why my stringstream solution isn't working.

  • Oracle Coherence, Split-Brain and Recovery Protocols In Detail

    This article provides a high level conceptual overview of Split-Brain scenarios in distributed systems. It will focus on a specific example of cluster communication failure and recovery in Oracle Coherence. This includes a discussion on the witness protocol (used to remove failed cluster members) and the panic protocol (used to resolve Split-Brain scenarios). Note that the removal of cluster members does not necessarily indicate a Split-Brain condition. Oracle Coherence does not (and cannot) detect a Split-Brain as it occurs, the condition is only detected when cluster members that previously lost contact with each other regain contact. Cluster Topology and Configuration In order to create an good didactic for the article, let's assume a cluster topology and configuration. In this example we have a six member cluster, consisting of one JVM on each physical machine. The member IDs are as follows: Member ID  IP Address  1  10.149.155.76  2  10.149.155.77  3  10.149.155.236  4  10.149.155.75  5  10.149.155.79  6  10.149.155.78 Members 1, 2, and 3 are connected to a switch, and members 4, 5, and 6 are connected to a second switch. There is a link between the two switches, which provides network connectivity between all of the machines. Member 1 is the first member to join this cluster, thus making it the senior member. Member 6 is the last member to join this cluster. In order for the protocol to be reliable, it requires an acknowledgement (ACK) for each packet delivered. If a packet fails to be acknowledged within the configured timeout period, the Coherence cluster member will log a packet timeout (as seen in the log message above). When this occurs, the cluster member will consult with other members to determine who is at fault for the communication failure. If the witness members agree that the suspect member is at fault, the suspect is removed from the cluster. If the witnesses unanimously disagree, the accuser is removed. This process is known as the witness protocol. Since Member 2 cannot communicate with Member 5, it selects two witnesses (Members 1 and 4) to determine if the communication issue is with Member 5 or with itself (Member 2). I looked this up in askubuntu and found out about this commend 7z a -v5m -mx0 ubuntu.7z I understand that v5m will split it to 5 mb parts and -mx0 means that it will not comperes it but I want it to comperes so what should I write instead of this -mx0 pleas note: I am using .7zip because I most probably will use this file on windows pc thank you in advanced

    I do a lot of file manipulation on my system and in one particular batch job I end up with around 16 Gb file. I need to prepare this data into smaller chunks for another process. I split it into 10k lines per file and numeric index, padded to 5 digits split -a 5 -d -l 10000 large_input_file /out_path/out. This way I end up with files named out.00000 out.00001 ... The problem is that this way indexing always starts with 0. Is there a way to set it to arbitrary starting index? man reveals nothing ...

An upside of this is being able to 'slice' ships in half, using an input damage map with a line down the middle, as shown in the diagram below.     I'm having some trouble compiling some VB code I wrote to split a string based on a set of predefined delimeters (comma, semicolon, colon, etc). I have successfully written some code that can be loaded inside a custom VB component (I place this code inside a VB.NET component in a plug-in called Grasshopper) and everything works fine. For instance, let's say my incoming string is "123,456". When I feed this string into the VB code I wrote, I get a new list where the first value is "123" and the second value is "456". However, I have been trying to compile this code into it's own class so I can load it inside Grasshopper separately from the standard VB component. When I try to compile this code, it isn't separating the string into a new list with two values. Instead, I get a message that says "System.String []". Do you guys see anything wrong in my compile code?     I've just started attempts to validate data in PHP and I'm trying to understand this concept better. I was expecting the string passed as an argument to the $data parameter for the test_input() function to be formatted by the following PHP functions. trim() to remove white space from the end of the string stripslashes() to return a string with backslashes stripped off htmlspecialchars() to convert special characters to HTML entities The issue is that the string that I am echoing at the end of the function is not being formatted in the way I desire at all. In fact it looks exactly the same when I run this code on my server - no white space removed, the backslash is not stripped and no special characters converted to HTML entities. My question is have I gone about this in the wrong approach? Should I be creating the variable called $santised_input on 3 separate lines with each of the functions trim(), stripslashes() and htmlspecialchars()? By my understanding surely I am overwriting the value of the $santised_input variable each time I recreate it on a new line of code. Therefore the trim() and stripslashes() string functions will never be executed. What I am trying to achieve is using the "$santised_input" variable to run all of these PHP string functions when the $data argument is passed to my test_input() function.     I am new to bash, and I am creating a script that loops through the files in a directory and based on part of the filename, does something with the file, so far I have this: #!/bin/bash DIR="/Users/me/Documents/import/*" for f in "$DIR" do $t=?????? echo "Loading $f int $t..." done so $f will output something like this: /Users/me/Documents/import/time_dim-1272037430173 out of this, I want time_dim, the directory can be variable length and -1272037430173 is a fixed length (it's the unix timestamp btw). What is the best way to go about this?

  • Removing occurrences of characters in a string

    I am reading this book, programming Interviews exposed by John Wiley and sons and in chapter 6 they are discussing removing all instances of characters in a src string using a removal string... so removeChars(string str, string remove) In there writeup they sey the steps to accomplish this are to have a boolean lookup array with all values initially set to false, then loop through each character in remove setting the corresponding value in the lookup array to true (note: this could also be a hash if the possible character set where huge like Unicode-16 or something like that or if str and remove are both relatively small... < 100 characters I suppose). You then iterate through the str with a source and destination index, copying each character only if its corresponding value in the lookup array is false... Which makes sense... I don't understand the code that they use however... They have for(src = 0; src < len; ++src){ flags[r[src]] == true; } which is turning the flag value at the remove string indexed at src to true... so if you start out with PLEASE HELP as your str and LEA as your remove you will be setting in your flag table at 0,1,2... t|t|t but after that you will get an out of bounds exception because r doesn't have have anything greater than 2 in it... even using there example you get an out of bounds exception... Am is there code example unworkable? Entire function string removeChars( string str, string remove ){ char[] s = str.toCharArray(); char[] r = remove.toCharArray(); bool[] flags = new bool[128]; // assumes ASCII! int len = s.Length; int src, dst; // Set flags for characters to be removed for( src = 0; src < len; ++src ){ flags[r[src]] = true; } src = 0; dst = 0; // Now loop through all the characters, // copying only if they aren’t flagged while( src < len ){ if( !flags[ (int)s[src] ] ){ s[dst++] = s[src]; } ++src; } return new string( s, 0, dst ); } as you can see, r comes from the remove string. So in my example the remove string has only a size of 3 while my str string has a size of 11. len is equal to the length of the str string. So it would be 11. How can I loop through the r string since it is only size 3? I haven't compiled the code so I can loop through it, but just looking at it I know it won't work. I am thinking they wanted to loop through the r string... in other words they got the length of the wrong string here.

I tried following a few semi-relevant examples I've found online and put in k => k.Key, but that gives a compiler error: 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<System.Collections.Generic.KeyValuePair<string,int>>' does not contain a definition for 'ToDictionary' and the best extension method overload 'System.Linq.Enumerable.ToDictionary<TSource,TKey>(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<TSource>, System.Func<TSource,TKey>)' has some invalid arguments

    In VB.Net, is there any advantage to using & to concatenate strings instead of +? e.g. Dim x as String = "hello" + " there" vs. Dim x as String = "hello" & " there" Yes, I know for a lot of string concatenations I'd want to use StringBuilder, but this is more of a general question.

  • vb6 ADODB connection string to sql server 2008

    I recently migrated a database from sql server 2005 to 2008 on windows server 2008. Clients connect fine from their XP machines and so does the SQL Management Studio 2008. I have also tested a remote connection using LINQPad which worked fine. However on my VB6 app, the connection string seems to give me problems. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
