  • Run 3 monitors on two different video cards?

    Can I run 3 monitors on two different video cards? I have an ATI and Nvidia brand card. The ATI has 2 HDMI connections. They both work. Both cards are also picked up in Windows, one being the ATI and the other one as the Nvidia, but it says VGA Controller, although the card only takes 2 DVi. So, one DVI cable goes into that Nvidia card. 3 Monitors, but only 2 the HDMI ones from the ATI pick up, not the third one which is connected to the Nvidia via DVI. How can I run three monitors then? I suppose I can't install both drivers, so I'm unsure what to do. Is this possible? I just want the Nvidia card to power the third screen, no gaming on it, nothing. Also the ATI is picked up as primary card as well, so no hurdle there. EDIT: Hm, just installed the Nvidia drivers and it picked up the third screen no problem. Hope there aren't any major conflicts. Will post this as an answer as correct when I'm able. Can't as a new user.

  • Mapping of memory addresses to physical modules in Windows XP

    I plan to run 32-bit Windows XP on a workstation with dual processors, based on Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture, and triple channel RAM. Even though XP is limited to 4 GB of RAM, my understanding is that it will function with more than 4 GB installed, but will only expose 4 GB (or slightly less). My question is: Assuming that 6 GB of RAM is installed in six 1 GB modules, which physical 4 GB will Windows actually map into its address space? In particular: Will it use all six 1 GB modules, taking advantage of all memory channels? (My guess is yes, and that the mapping to individual modules within a group happens in hardware.) Will it map 2 GB of address space to each of the two NUMA nodes (as each processor has it's own memory interface), or will one processor get fast access to 3 GB of RAM, while the other only has 1 GB?   • Quick question - how to comment if-else structure?

    Lets say you have: if(condition) { i = 1; } else { i = 2; } and you need to put comments explaining if and else blocks. What's the most readable way of doing it so someone can easily pick them up at first glance? I usually do it like this: //check for condition if(condition) { i = 1; } else { //condition isn't met i = 2; } which I find not good enough as comments are located at different levels, so at quick glance you would just pick up if comment and else comment would look like it belongs to some inner structure. Putting them like this: if(condition) { //check for condition i = 1; } else { //condition isn't met i = 2; } doesn't look good to me either as it would seem like the whole structure is not commented (condition might be big and take multiple lines). Something like that: //check for condition if(condition) { i = 1; //condition isn't met } else { i = 2; } would be probably the best style from comments point of view but confusing as a code structure. How do you comment such blocks?

    I am looking for a C(++) #if 0 -like way of being able to comment out whole pieces of Scala source code, for keeping around experimental or expired code for a while. I tried out a couple of alternatives and would like to hear what you use, and if you have come up with something better? // Simply block-marking N lines by '//' is one way... // <tags> """ anything My editor makes this easy, but it's not really The Thing. It gets easily mixed with actual one-line comments. Then I figured there's native XML support, so: <!-- ... did not work --> Wrapping in XML works, unless you have <tags> within the block: class none { val a= <ignore> ... cannot have //<tags> <here> (not even in end-of-line comments!) </ignore> } The same for multi-line strings seems kind of best, but there's an awful lot of boilerplate (not fashionable in Scala) to please the compiler (less if you're doing this within a class or an object): object none { val ignore= """ This seems like ... <truly> <anything goes> but three "'s of course """ } The 'right' way to do this might be: /*** /* ... works but not properly syntax highlighed in SubEthaEdit (or StackOverflow) */ ***/ ..but that matches the /* and */ only, not i.e. /*** to ***/. This means the comments within the block need to be balanced. And - the current Scala syntax highlighting mode for SubEthaEdit fails miserably on this. As a comparison, Lua has --[==[ matching ]==] and so forth. I think I'm spoilt? So - is there some useful trick I'm overseeing?

    Vim automatically inserts a comment when I start a new line from a commented out line, because I have set formatoptions=tcroql. For example (cursor is *): // this is a comment* and after hitting <Enter> (insert mode) or o (normal mode) i am left with: // this is a comment // * This feature is very handy when writing long multi-line comments, but often I just want a single line comment. Now if I want to end the comment series I have several options: hit <Esc>S hit <BS> three times Both of these afford three keystrokes, taken together with the <Enter> this means four keystrokes for a new line, which I think is too much. Ideally, I would like to just hit <Enter> a second time to be left with: // this is a comment * It is important that the solution will also work with different indentation levels, i.e. int main(void) { // this is a comment* } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment // * } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment * } I think I have seen this feature in some text editor a few years ago but I do not recall which one it was. Is anyone aware of a solution that will do this for me in Vim? Pointers in the right direction on how to roll my own solution are also very welcome.

    Hi, i'm using some of facebook widgets. I have "Fan Box" and "Share". They work just fine. I'm trying to use the Comment Box and the problem is it does not show up at all on my site. http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/ This is the facebook page with the widgets. "Website or Business" column widgets work fine when i use them. "Developers" column widgets don't work at all. I have a developer account all setup. This is the widget code.     When I write a comment, it's often a paragraph or a few lines that explains clearly what a bit of code is doing and why it's doing that. What I'd like is if I could start a comment, and have the editor automatically insert a line break and continue the comment to the nest line when I reach, say, 80 characters long. So I'd type: // Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. < here the editor breaks automatically and continues onto the next line: // Etiam congue quam eget leo dignissim tincidunt.

    I need to create some pretty big tables in SQL server 2008, while I do have SQL Server Manager Studio, I would like to comment the tables and the columns when I create the table. How do I do this? Example of the query I am running: CREATE TABLE cert_Certifications ( certificationID int PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY, profileID int, cprAdultExp datetime null ) I've tried COMMENT'Expiration Date for the Adult CPR' and COMMENT='Expiration Date for the Adult CPR' after the data type, and SQL server is giving me an error.

  • Disable comments in stdout (DOS)

    If I use Dos command "copy" to concatenate two files: copy a1.txt + a2.txt a.txt I will have something like the following in stdout: C:\a1.txt C:\a2.txt 1 file(s) copied. I do not want to have anything written in stdout, I mean, I just want to have 'a.txt' without those 3 lines written in stdout. Is there any way to do so? the reason is, I need speed and I know that any IO takes time. Thanks, Shadi.

  • Use multiple css files or a single file organised by comments

    Hi, what is regarded as the best approach to organising css. At the moment I am using a single link in the head of my xhtml documents as follows: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style/imports.css" /> In this file im importing several different css files i.e. reset.css, structure.css, skin.css I know there is an overhead in doing this as each requires an extra trip to the server but it makes things much more logical and organised in my opinion. Does anyone have an opinion on how best to organise their css. - Would it be better to put all these seperate css funcions into one single file? Also, is it best practice to minify css.

    I am trying to build a python script that will take in an XML document and remove all of the comment blocks from it. I tried something along the lines of: tree = ElementTree() tree.parse(file) commentElements = tree.findall('//comment()') for element in commentElements: element.parentNode.remove(element) Doing this yields a weird error from python: "KeyError: '()' I know there are ways to easily edit the file using other methods ( like sed ), but I have to do it in a python script.
