hi,
I'm using Ubuntu emulator (VMware) on a Macbook.
My mac says 3gb free, while my Ubuntu emulator says 16gb free.
How was wondering if my Ubuntu installation is "reserving" those 16gb, or it is just a wrong parameter.
thanks
Hi
I want to assign public IP to a virtual machine on Vmware server, so that the virtual machine's IP is visible to external machines.
I tried Bridging option with vmnet0, but DHCP is not working on it.
Also, ipconfig /all only shows vmnet1 and vmnet8, but vmnet0 is not being shown.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks
I have a windows server 2003 box that I want to virtualize for free if possible. My understanding is that VMware's ESXi is free. Is there a free way to create the image? What are the steps necessary to do this?
I installed a legally purchased OEM license of Windows 7 from NewEgg. I installed it onto a new iMac as a bootcamp partition. I also installed a license of VMWare fusion 3. However when I access the bootcamp partition through Fusion, i get activation problems.
What can I do?
Cannot browse the web from the guest VM.
Host
Windows 2008 R2 web edition
Fresh install
default firewall settings unchanged
VWare server 2.02
Can ping external sites
Can resolve DNS hostnames
Can browse web
Guest
VMware NAT networking
Win 2000 server
No firewall
Can ping external sites
Can resolve DNS hostnames
"Page cannot be displayed" errors when browsing web
Could previously browse web when Guest VM run on Win2003 host
Is there a way to find which ESXi server a particular VM on? For instance, I am on rhel5.4 vm, with vmware-guestd daemon running. But I want to find the hostname of ESXi server on which this Vm exists?
Was wondering if anyone knew how to get 3-4 virtual box's to share the same monitor (i.e. so i could potentially get 4 box's on one screen, each screen environment would need to maintain its 1280x1024 internal resolution (so scale i guess?) anyways if you could help it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to VMWare so please be gentle :-P
I'm using VMWare. My host machine has internet connection. I have selected NAT in the virtual machine settings. What else do I need to do to get internet connection in virtual machine.
VMware ESXi 4 supports VMI paravirtualization for 32-bit OS but not for 64-bit OS. For performance consideration, is it better to use a 32-bit Ubuntu Server guest without paravirtualization or a 64-bit one with VMI paravirtualization?
Hardware: Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM

Hi,
I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server.
Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system?
Is this is a good direction to protect the web server from viruses?
Kind regards,
Jakub

Background: I am preparing a VmWare Image for shipment to a customer. This image contains sensible data. The only access granted shall be via an apache server running from inside in the image.
I have a system that I imaged using VMWare Converter, and it runs perfect. However, I have a second drive on the system that I did not originally image.
How can I image the second drive and add it to the virtual machine?
I have a VMware Workstation 10.0 installation with several virtual networks including the default host-only and NAT networks.
After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the NAT network was not working. I booted an Ubuntu VM with the default network setup that was previously working, and it sat for a long time during startup saying it was waiting for the network. After it finally started up, an ifconfig showed no IP address for eth0.
How can I fix the broken network?
When I access multiple virtual desktops via VMware View 4, I'm able to copy files between VMs. The VMs are located in different isolated networks. This is a security concern in my organization and how can I disable this feature? I'm not able to find any related configuration in View Connection Server. Thanks!
We have a SQL server machine - It’s a VMWare image (running on ESXi hardware etc..)
It has windows 2008 x64 standard
The SQL install is SQL 2008 standard
The virtual machine has 12gb of RAM, and 4 virtual CPU
The box is suffering from near 100% CPU a lot of the time
I enabled the AWE- but SQL server only seems to use 3-4gb of RAM
Is there a way of making it use more available ram more effectively?
cache results for example..?

I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS.

The location is not showing up in /mnt/
What could be the reason?
P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM.

Why does the newest VMware Player crash down while playing videos on youtube.com?
It starts playing the video and then crashes down completely. I always have to reset the player to go on working.
Does anyone know why this occurs?
I'm using VMware Studio 2 to create virtual appliances.
Now we want to make an appliance of a 64 bit Ubuntu distro, but it's not in the template list, like Redhat 64bit and CentOS 64bit.
Is there a way to do this?
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Edition in VMWare Fusion; the host is Mac OS X. I installed it successfully and I was even able to use. After shutting it down and reopening it, it no longer works. Here's what I see:
I've checked the Virtual Machine settings. It appears as running. I waited for a long time, but there no response yet. Is there anything I can do apart from reinstalling it?

What is the best way for me to migrate my VMWare Fusion Bootcamp Partition to a new MAC. Preferably I would like to import the current bootcamp partition in as a strict virtual machine on the new mac, instead of in bootcamp. The "older mac" is about two years old, so I don't think there will be any compatibility issues, but i do not have enough disc space on the old machine to import it as a virtual machine, and then migrate it.
Thanks for the help.
