  • tcpdump filter that excludes private ip traffic

    - by Kyle Brandt
For a generic filter to exclude all traffic in my dump that is between private IP address, I came up with the following: sudo tcpdump -n ' (not ( (src net 172.16.0.0/20 or src net 10.0.0.0/8 or src net 192.168.0.0/16) and (dst net 172.16.0.0/20 or dst net 10.0.0.0/8 or dst net 192.168.0.0/16) ) ) and (not ( (dst net 172.16.0.0/20 or dst net 10.0.0.0/8 or dst net 192.168.0.0/16) and (src net 172.16.0.0/20 or src net 10.0.0.0/8 or src net 192.168.0.0/16) ) )' -w test2.dump Seems pretty excessive, but it also seems to work, is this filter a lot longer than it needs to be and there is better way to express this logic, or is there anything wrong with the filter?

  • Remote File Copy - Win Server 2008

    - by Scott
I'd like to copy backup archives from a remote server to my client machine. In the past, I've installed an FTP server on the remote machine and directed local server backups to dump into that directory. I'd then FTP in from my client machine. Just wondering if there is a simpler way to do this using Win 7 (Client) Win Server 2008? Robocopy? RDC command line options? For example, I can easily remote desktop in and drag the files from the server to my local machine. If there is an easy command line way to do this, then I don't have to setup an FTP server which is ideal. Thanks.

  • Virtual machines interconnection inside Proxmox 2.1 Cluster

    - by Anton
We have 3 physical servers (each with 1 NIC) in different datacentres, all of them are interconnected by openvpn bridged private network (10.x.x.x). Inside this network we have fully functional 3 nodes Proxmox 2.1 cluster. So, actually question is: Is there any "proper" way to make "global" local network (172.16.x.x) for all VMs inside cluster, so even if we move VM from one node to other we could reach it by static IP regardless of it's physical location? BTW, we can't add dedicated NIC to each server. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I have tried to make a separate openvpn bridge for 172.16.x.x, now I have at each server two interfaces: SRV1: openvpnbr1 - 172.16.13.1 vmbr0 - 172.16.1.1 SRV2: openvpnbr1 - 172.16.13.2 vmbr0 - 172.16.2.1 But now there is no connection between those ifaces: SRV1: ping 172.16.13.2 From 172.16.1.1 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable SRV2: ping 172.16.13.1 From 172.16.2.1 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable If I shut down vmbr0 interfaces, so there is connection between servers over openvpn, but vmbr0 is used by Proxmox... Where I am wrong?

  • Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client

    - by Daniel
I have a Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client..... but if i disable terminal services inside the virtual machine, start the app then start terminal services... the APP runs fine (so long as terminal services are disabled when it starts.....!) My question is... is it possible to script things somehow so as to allow this app to be accessed directly from win 7 (with out having to manually run XP virtual machine)... I.E as I can not run it this way as it won't START with terminal services running.... I.e is it somehow possible to script things so the APP starts and terminal services is delayed then kicks in after a time delay.... (I know this may not be possible but I'm getting sick of all the mucking around...)

  • Installing win xp media center 2005

    - by wdizz
I have a Dell 710 XPS H2C running Vista Business, I wish to clean install Win XP media center 2005. I wiped my hard drive with Wipe Drive Pro and proceeded to install Win XP, the install starts and goes thru the various prompts but when it comes to 'installing windows' I get a blue screen that flashes briefly (to fast to get the error code) and then reboots. This happens with any XP system disk (iv'e tried 4), but it installs Vista, 7 or Linux with no problems. I contacted Dell Support who have yet to give me any solutions to resolve the problem. Is there anyone out there with any ideas please.

  • Samba share not accessible from Win 7 - tried advice on superuser

    - by Roy Grubb
I have an old Red Hat Linux box that I use, amongst other things, to run Samba. My Vista and remaining Win XP PC can access the p/w-protected Samba shares. I just set up a new Windows 7 64-bit Pro PC. Attempts to access the Samba shares by clicking on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine gave a Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. message when I gave the correct credentials. So I followed the suggestions in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares (also checked here but found LmCompatibilityLevel was already 1). This got me a little further. If click on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine I now see icons for the shared directories. But when I click on one of these, I get \\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission... etc. I tried making the Win 7 password the same as my Samba p/w (the user name was already the same). Same result. The Linux box does part of what I need for ecommerce - the in-house part, it's not accessible to the Internet. As my Linux Fu is weak, I have to avoid changes to the Linux box, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do to Win 7 to make it behave like XP and Vista when accessing this share. Help please!? Thanks Thanks for replying @Randolph. I had set 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level' to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated based on the advice in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares and had restarted the machine, but that didn't work for me. I'll try playing with other Network security values. I have now tried the following: Network security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for NTLM: changed from Not Defined to "Enabled". Restarted machine Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. Network security: Restrict NTLM: Add remote server exceptions for NTLM Authentication (added LX) Restarted machine Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I can't see any other Network security settings that might affect this. Any other ideas please? Thanks Roy

  • postfix takes 60-90ms to queue email -- normal?

    - by Jeff Atwood
We're seeing some (maybe?) strange delays when submitting individual emails to our local Postfix server. To help diagnose the issue, I wrote a little test program which sends 5 emails: get smtp 1ms ( 1 ms) email 0 677ms (676 ms) email 1 802ms (125 ms) email 2 890ms ( 88 ms) email 3 973ms ( 83 ms) email 4 1088ms (115 ms) Discounting the handshaking in the first email, that's about 90ms per email. These timings have also been corroborated with another test app written by someone else using a different codepath, so it appears to be server related. I turned on detailed logging and I can see that the delay is between the end of message \r\n\r\n and the receive: [16:31:29.95] [SEND] \r\n.\r\n [16:31:30.05] [RECV] 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as B128E1E063\r\n [16:31:30.08] [SEND] \r\n.\r\n [16:31:30.17] [RECV] 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 4A7DE1E06E\r\n [16:31:30.19] [SEND] \r\n.\r\n [16:31:30.27] [RECV] 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 68ACC1E072\r\n [16:31:30.28] [SEND] \r\n.\r\n [16:31:30.34] [RECV] 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 7EFFE1E079\r\n [16:31:30.39] [SEND] \r\n.\r\n [16:31:30.45] [RECV] 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 9793C1E07A\r\n The time intervals tell the story (discounting the handshaking required for the initial email) -- each email is waiting about 60-90 milliseconds for postfix to queue! This seems .. excessive .. to me. Is it "normal" for postfix to take 60-90 ms for every email you send it? Or do I just have unreasonable expectations? I would expect the local postfix server to queue the email in about 20ms, tops!

  • Jan 2010 Microsoft update trashed my Win XP (64bit) PC

    - by Mark Pawelek
I waited until this morning to install these 5 updates. My ancient Win XP (32 bit) PC has no problems but my Win XP 64 bit will not start. From the startup menu none of the 5 options given (e.g. safe mode, last known good configuration, etc) work. After selecting an option, the Windows Logo screen appears. About 9 seconds later a blue screen of death flashes [I can't read the error messages because it's there for about 100 ms] then it cycles through the reboot again. PS: This is a pretty cheap mobo (Ge Force) with an AMD 3 GH chip - but until today it did actually work. What should I do? Reinstall the O/S?

  • A single AD user can't log into a single Mac bound to the domain (DirectoryServices error). How can I resolve this?

    - by Ben Wyatt
On our campus, we have about 60 Macs joined to our Active Directory domain. Most users have no problems logging into Macs, as long as their accounts are configured correctly. However, we have one particular user who is unable to log in to just some of the Macs. He has no problem with most of them, but there is one group of them (all built from the same image) that he can't log in to. The machine in question is running OS X 10.6.2. The relevant entries from secure.log are below, with the hostname and username redacted. Aug 16 10:32:43 hostname SecurityAgent[4411]: Could not get the user record for username from DirectoryServices. Aug 16 10:32:43 hostname SecurityAgent[4411]: Will sleep 1 seconds and try again (retryCount = 4) Aug 16 10:32:44 hostname SecurityAgent[4411]: Could not get the user record for username from DirectoryServices. Aug 16 10:32:44 hostname SecurityAgent[4411]: Will sleep 2 seconds and try again (retryCount = 3) Aug 16 10:32:46 hostname SecurityAgent[4411]: Could not get the user record for username from DirectoryServices. I turned that feature off, but I still can't log in as that user. id returns a record for his account, and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Has anyone here run into this before?

  • Win 7: Share internet connection via Ethernet and WiFi

    - by Anvaka
I have the following configuration: Box 1. Running Win 7, connected to the internet via Eth0. Has one wireless network adapter and one more ethernet adapter (say, Eth1). Box 2. Running Win XP, has one ethernet adapter. I'd like to share Internet connection of the Box 1 with Box 2 via cable and have box 1 also sharing the Internet with other wireless devices. I don't want to buy any additional hardware. Is it possible? PS: Sorry if I'm unclear. I merely know nothing about NAT and network administration

  • PCs on domain can not resolve external IP addresses using the DC's DNS Server

    - by Ben
I currently have a domain controller which handles all DHCP and DNS. The DHCP works just fine and the domain controller itself can use the internet with no issues. However, PCs that are part of the domain are not able to use external websites, only internal. Does anyone have any way I can solve this issue? • NTP daemon or ntpdate doesn't synchronize

    I'm having some problems with synchronization with an NTP server. 1) The NTP daemon doesn't sync the system clock at all, even though it's running (confirmed with /etc/init.d/ntp status). Forcing to sync with ntpd -q or ntpd -gq does not work either. 2) Stopping the NTP daemon and syncing manually with ntpdate does give me the following output: ~# ntpdate -d 0.debian.pool.ntp.org 6 Nov 16:48:53 ntpdate[4417]: ntpdate [email protected] Sat May 12 09:07:19 UTC 2012 (1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) server 79.132.237.5, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.5], delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3b1.f490b90d Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:50:09.955 originate timestamp: d624e457.eaaf787c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:55.916 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.4a7036fd Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.290 filter delay: 0.08537 0.05141 0.05151 0.06346 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6038 235.6087 235.6095 235.6068 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 offset 235.608782 server 85.234.197.2, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [85.234.197.2], delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3e7.dc6cd02b Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:51:03.861 originate timestamp: d624e458.1c91031f Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.111 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.7da1d882 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.490 filter delay: 0.05765 0.07750 0.06013 0.05151 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6048 235.6014 235.6035 235.6078 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 offset 235.607826 server 194.50.97.34, port 123 stratum 3, precision -23, leap 00, trust 000 refid [194.50.97.34], delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e38d.2bce952c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:33.171 originate timestamp: d624e458.4dbbc114 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.303 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.b0d38834 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.690 filter delay: 0.03030 0.03636 0.03091 0.03021 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6095 235.6085 235.6098 235.6105 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 offset 235.610589 server 79.132.237.1, port 123 stratum 3, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.1], delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624dfcb.6acea332 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:33:31.417 originate timestamp: d624e458.838672ad Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.513 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.e405181c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.890 filter delay: 0.06345 0.05113 0.05681 0.05656 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6087 235.6038 235.6010 235.6074 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 offset 235.603888 6 Nov 16:49:00 ntpdate[4417]: step time server 79.132.237.5 offset 235.608782 sec Clearly, ntpdate can reach the NTP server(s), but after checking the clock, it hasn't changed and is still displaying the wrong time. • Remove CR LF for all lines that are not followed by a specific number

    - by Kjeldsen
I have 14000+ lines of a database, that I want to edit with Notepad++. All these lines should start with 1000 and I therefore want to delete CR LF at the end of those lines that are not followed by 1000. Eg. 1000 16 04000 CRLF sdfsdf 15 sdf de 05550 CRLF 1000 16 04000 CRLF 1000 16 04000 CRLF 5. sdkfd dksds 16 0555 CRLF 10/10/14 sdfsdf CRLF should after find and replace look like 1000 16 04000 sdfsdf 15 sdf de 05550 CRLF 1000 16 04000 CRLF 1000 16 04000 5. sdkfd dksds 16 0555 10 sdfsdf CRLF I have tried with find what: \r\n([^1000]) Replace with _\1 However, this doesn't seem to remove lines starting with a number (like 5. or 10/10/14). Is it possible to make just one RegEx to find and remove all line breaks that isn't followed by 1000? "_" indicating a "space"

  • Infected Win XP disk not openable on a Vista computer

    - by Retired57
How can I read a WinXP partioned disk that is infected and shows up on a USB connection to Win Vista computer as a single partition that Vista cannot see the contents? The XP computer HDD is partioned into 4 partitions. It became infected, and all attempts to clean it have failed. Applications begin to launch, but are then shut down by the infecting agent. Using a major Anti-virus Co. boot disk (which was unable to connect to the Web, probably because the infecting agent stopped it) with virus definitions dated after the disk became infected, the resultant scan showed no infection. I bought a USB cable to connect the IDE drive to my Vista computer, but when I open Win Explorer, it sees the disk, but does not show any contents. It indicates it is a single partition that is valid. However in all the ways I have tried it does not show drive contents. Any suggestions on what to do next?

  • Windows 2008 R2 DHCP Overlapping Scopes

    - by Buska
We are trying to troubleshoot a scope overlap problem. We have multiple device types we wish to give all different ranges of a 16 bit subnet. IE. X device we wish to give 192.168.2.1-192.168.2.254/16, Y devices we wish to give 192.168.3.1-192.168.3.254/16. We are trying to accomplish this by creating different scopes and using the 60 class identifier. The problem is DHCP won't allow us to give these scopes with 16 bit masks because of the potential overlap. We aren't overlapping the address pool so why does DHCP care and can we work around this? If this isn't possible, how can i assign specific ranges by device type without creating multiple scopes? Any thoughts would be helpful. UPDATE: Entire Scope is 192.168.0.0/16 Gateway is 192.168.1.1/16 Device Hardware A - 192.168.20.1-192.168.20.254/16 Device Hardware B - 192.168.26.1-192.168.26.254/16 Device Hardware C - 192.168.85.1-192.168.85.254/16 We tried to setup multiple scopes for each device type (A,B,C) but couldn't specify a 16 bit mask as Scope A could technically overlap Scope B even thought our start and end addresses don't. I hope this makes more sense. Thanks for your thoughts.

  • iptables (DNAT)

    - by user1126425
I have a host that acts as a gateway for other hosts. The configuration is such that eth0(192.168.1.3) is connected to internet via a router and eth1(172.16.2.50) is connected to internal network via switch. Given that, this host is also running a service that is bound to eth1 and serves the internal network. I want to extend this service to the outside world as well and was trying to manipulate iptables so that any request that comes to this host via eth0 and is directed to 192.168.1.3:80 is send to 172.16.2.50 and internet users can also make use of the service. Here are my iptable rules for setting up the host as gateway (and these work fine): sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 172.16.2.0/16 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE sudo iptables -A FORWARD -s 172.16.2.0/16 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT sudo iptables -A FORWARD -d 172.16.2.0/16 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -i eth0 -j ACCEPT And these are the rules that I am trying to add to the iptables to achieve my ends: sudo iptables -A INPUT -d 192.168.1.3 -p tcp -dport 80 -i eth0 -j ACCEPT sudo iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 192.168.1.3 -p tcp -dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.16.2.50:80 sudo iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -s 172.16.2.50 -p tcp -sport 80 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.1.3:80 sudo iptables -A FORWARD -d 192.168.1.3 -p tcp -dport 80 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT When I do so, I get error like : "multiple -d flags not allowed" ... Can someone tell me how to resolve this error... and do the entries that I want to add will serve my purpose ? Thanks!

  • Optimizing Solaris 11 SHA-1 on Intel Processors

    - by danx
SHA-1 is a "hash" or "digest" operation that produces a 160 bit (20 byte) checksum value on arbitrary data, such as a file. It is intended to uniquely identify text and to verify it hasn't been modified. Max Locktyukhin and others at Intel have improved the performance of the SHA-1 digest algorithm using multiple techniques. This code has been incorporated into Solaris 11 and is available in the Solaris Crypto Framework via the libmd(3LIB), the industry-standard libpkcs11(3LIB) library, and Solaris kernel module sha1. The optimized code is used automatically on systems with a x86 CPU supporting SSSE3 (Intel Supplemental SSSE3). Intel microprocessor architectures that support SSSE3 include Nehalem, Westmere, Sandy Bridge microprocessor families. Further optimizations are available for microprocessors that support AVX (such as Sandy Bridge). Although SHA-1 is considered obsolete because of weaknesses found in the SHA-1 algorithm—NIST recommends using at least SHA-256, SHA-1 is still widely used and will be with us for awhile more. Collisions (the same SHA-1 result for two different inputs) can be found with moderate effort. SHA-1 is used heavily though in SSL/TLS, for example. And SHA-1 is stronger than the older MD5 digest algorithm, another digest option defined in SSL/TLS. Optimizations Review SHA-1 operates by reading an arbitrary amount of data. The data is read in 512 bit (64 byte) blocks (the last block is padded in a specific way to ensure it's a full 64 bytes). Each 64 byte block has 80 "rounds" of calculations (consisting of a mixture of "ROTATE-LEFT", "AND", and "XOR") applied to the block. Each round produces a 32-bit intermediate result, called W[i]. Here's what each round operates: The first 16 rounds, rounds 0 to 15, read the 512 bit block 32 bits at-a-time. These 32 bits is used as input to the round. The remaining rounds, rounds 16 to 79, use the results from the previous rounds as input. Specifically for round i it XORs the results of rounds i-3, i-8, i-14, and i-16 and rotates the result left 1 bit. The remaining calculations for the round is a series of AND, XOR, and ROTATE-LEFT operators on the 32-bit input and some constants. The 32-bit result is saved as W[i] for round i. The 32-bit result of the final round, W[79], is the SHA-1 checksum. Optimization: Vectorization The first 16 rounds can be vectorized (computed in parallel) because they don't depend on the output of a previous round. As for the remaining rounds, because of step 2 above, computing round i depends on the results of round i-3, W[i-3], one can vectorize 3 rounds at-a-time. Max Locktyukhin found through simple factoring, explained in detail in his article referenced below, that the dependencies of round i on the results of rounds i-3, i-8, i-14, and i-16 can be replaced instead with dependencies on the results of rounds i-6, i-16, i-28, and i-32. That is, instead of initializing intermediate result W[i] with: W[i] = (W[i-3] XOR W[i-8] XOR W[i-14] XOR W[i-16]) ROTATE-LEFT 1 Initialize W[i] as follows: W[i] = (W[i-6] XOR W[i-16] XOR W[i-28] XOR W[i-32]) ROTATE-LEFT 2 That means that 6 rounds could be vectorized at once, with no additional calculations, instead of just 3! This optimization is independent of Intel or any other microprocessor architecture, although the microprocessor has to support vectorization to use it, and exploits one of the weaknesses of SHA-1. Optimization: SSSE3 Intel SSSE3 makes use of 16 %xmm registers, each 128 bits wide. The 4 32-bit inputs to a round, W[i-6], W[i-16], W[i-28], W[i-32], all fit in one %xmm register. The following code snippet, from Max Locktyukhin's article, converted to ATT assembly syntax, computes 4 rounds in parallel with just a dozen or so SSSE3 instructions: movdqa W_minus_04, W_TMP pxor W_minus_28, W // W equals W[i-32:i-29] before XOR // W = W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25] palignr $8, W_minus_08, W_TMP // W_TMP = W[i-6:i-3], combined from // W[i-4:i-1] and W[i-8:i-5] vectors pxor W_minus_16, W // W = (W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25]) ^ W[i-16:i-13] pxor W_TMP, W // W = (W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25] ^ W[i-16:i-13]) ^ W[i-6:i-3]) movdqa W, W_TMP // 4 dwords in W are rotated left by 2 psrld $30, W // rotate left by 2 W = (W >> 30) | (W << 2) pslld $2, W_TMP por W, W_TMP movdqa W_TMP, W // four new W values W[i:i+3] are now calculated paddd (K_XMM), W_TMP // adding 4 current round's values of K movdqa W_TMP, (WK(i)) // storing for downstream GPR instructions to read A window of the 32 previous results, W[i-1] to W[i-32] is saved in memory on the stack. This is best illustrated with a chart. Without vectorization, computing the rounds is like this (each "R" represents 1 round of SHA-1 computation): RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR With vectorization, 4 rounds can be computed in parallel: RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Optimization: AVX The new "Sandy Bridge" microprocessor architecture, which supports AVX, allows another interesting optimization. SSSE3 instructions have two operands, a input and an output. AVX allows three operands, two inputs and an output. In many cases two SSSE3 instructions can be combined into one AVX instruction. The difference is best illustrated with an example. Consider these two instructions from the snippet above: pxor W_minus_16, W // W = (W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25]) ^ W[i-16:i-13] pxor W_TMP, W // W = (W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25] ^ W[i-16:i-13]) ^ W[i-6:i-3]) With AVX they can be combined in one instruction: vpxor W_minus_16, W, W_TMP // W = (W[i-32:i-29] ^ W[i-28:i-25] ^ W[i-16:i-13]) ^ W[i-6:i-3]) This optimization is also in Solaris, although Sandy Bridge-based systems aren't widely available yet. As an exercise for the reader, AVX also has 256-bit media registers, %ymm0 - %ymm15 (a superset of 128-bit %xmm0 - %xmm15). Can %ymm registers be used to parallelize the code even more? Optimization: Solaris-specific In addition to using the Intel code described above, I performed other minor optimizations to the Solaris SHA-1 code: Increased the digest(1) and mac(1) command's buffer size from 4K to 64K, as previously done for decrypt(1) and encrypt(1). This size is well suited for ZFS file systems, but helps for other file systems as well. Optimized encode functions, which byte swap the input and output data, to copy/byte-swap 4 or 8 bytes at-a-time instead of 1 byte-at-a-time. Enhanced the Solaris mdb(1) and kmdb(1) debuggers to display all 16 %xmm and %ymm registers (mdb "$x" command). Previously they only displayed the first 8 that are available in 32-bit mode. Can't optimize if you can't debug :-). Changed the SHA-1 code to allow processing in "chunks" greater than 2 Gigabytes (64-bits) Performance I measured performance on a Sun Ultra 27 (which has a Nehalem-class Xeon 5500 Intel W3570 microprocessor @3.2GHz). Turbo mode is disabled for consistent performance measurement. Graphs are better than words and numbers, so here they are: The first graph shows the Solaris digest(1) command before and after the optimizations discussed here, contained in libmd(3LIB). I ran the digest command on a half GByte file in swapfs (/tmp) and execution time decreased from 1.35 seconds to 0.98 seconds. The second graph shows the the results of an internal microbenchmark that uses the Solaris libpkcs11(3LIB) library. The operations are on a 128 byte buffer with 10,000 iterations. The results show operations increased from 320,000 to 416,000 operations per second. Finally the third graph shows the results of an internal kernel microbenchmark that uses the Solaris /kernel/crypto/amd64/sha1 module. The operations are on a 64Kbyte buffer with 100 iterations. third graph shows the results of an internal kernel microbenchmark that uses the Solaris /kernel/crypto/amd64/sha1 module. The operations are on a 64Kbyte buffer with 100 iterations. The results show for 1 kernel thread, operations increased from 410 to 600 MBytes/second. For 8 kernel threads, operations increase from 1540 to 1940 MBytes/second. Availability This code is in Solaris 11 FCS. It is available in the 64-bit libmd(3LIB) library for 64-bit programs and is in the Solaris kernel. You must be running hardware that supports Intel's SSSE3 instructions (for example, Intel Nehalem, Westmere, or Sandy Bridge microprocessor architectures). The easiest way to determine if SSSE3 is available is with the isainfo(1) command. For example, nehalem $ isainfo -v $ isainfo -v 64-bit amd64 applications sse4.2 sse4.1 ssse3 popcnt tscp ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov amd_sysc cx8 tsc fpu 32-bit i386 applications sse4.2 sse4.1 ssse3 popcnt tscp ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov sep cx8 tsc fpu If the output also shows "avx", the Solaris executes the even-more optimized 3-operand AVX instructions for SHA-1 mentioned above: sandybridge $ isainfo -v 64-bit amd64 applications avx xsave pclmulqdq aes sse4.2 sse4.1 ssse3 popcnt tscp ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov amd_sysc cx8 tsc fpu 32-bit i386 applications avx xsave pclmulqdq aes sse4.2 sse4.1 ssse3 popcnt tscp ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov sep cx8 tsc fpu No special configuration or setup is needed to take advantage of this code. Solaris libraries and kernel automatically determine if it's running on SSSE3 or AVX-capable machines and execute the correctly-tuned code for that microprocessor. Summary The Solaris 11 Crypto Framework, via the sha1 kernel module and libmd(3LIB) and libpkcs11(3LIB) libraries, incorporated a useful SHA-1 optimization from Intel for SSSE3-capable microprocessors. As with other Solaris optimizations, they come automatically "under the hood" with the current Solaris release. • 2D Side scroller collision detection

    - by Shanon Simmonds
I am trying to do some collision detection between objects and tiles, but the tiles do not have there own x and y position, they are just rendered to the x and y position given, there is an array of integers which has the ids of the tiles to use(which are given from an image and all the different colors are assigned different tiles) int x0 = camera.x / 16; int y0 = camera.y / 16; int x1 = (camera.x + screen.width) / 16; int y1 = (camera.y + screen.height) / 16; for(int y = y0; y < y1; y++) { if(y < 0 || y >= height) continue; // height is the height of the level for(int x = x0; x < x1; x++) { if(x < 0 || x >= width) continue; // width is the width of the level getTile(x, y).render(screen, x * 16, y * 16); } } I tried using the levels getTile method to see if the tile that the object was going to advance to, to see if it was a certain tile, but, it seems to only work in some directions. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong and fixes would be greatly appreciated. What's wrong is that it doesn't collide properly in every direction and also this is how I tested for a collision in the objects class if(!level.getTile((x + xa) / 16, (y + ya) / 16).isSolid()) { x += xa; y += ya; } EDIT: xa and ya represent the direction as well as the movement, if xa is negative it means the object is moving left, if its positive it is moving right, and same with ya except negative for up, positive for down.

  • Entity with Guid ID is not inserted by NHibernate

    - by DanK
I am experimenting with NHibernate (version 2.1.0.4000) with Fluent NHibernate Automapping. My test set of entities persists fine with default integer IDs I am now trying to use Guid IDs with the entities. Unfortunately changing the Id property to a Guid seems to stop NHibernate inserting objects. Here is the entity class: public class User { public virtual int Id { get; private set; } public virtual string FirstName { get; set; } public virtual string LastName { get; set; } public virtual string Email { get; set; } public virtual string Password { get; set; } public virtual List<UserGroup> Groups { get; set; } } And here is the Fluent NHibernate configuration I am using: SessionFactory = Fluently.Configure() //.Database(SQLiteConfiguration.Standard.InMemory) .Database(MsSqlConfiguration.MsSql2008.ConnectionString(@"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=NHibernateTest;Uid=NHibernateTest;Password=password").ShowSql()) .Mappings(m => m.AutoMappings.Add( AutoMap.AssemblyOf<TestEntities.User>() .UseOverridesFromAssemblyOf<UserGroupMappingOverride>())) .ExposeConfiguration(x => { x.SetProperty("current_session_context_class","web"); }) .ExposeConfiguration(Cfg => _configuration = Cfg) .BuildSessionFactory(); Here is the log output when using an integer ID: 16:23:14.287 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.DefaultSaveOrUpdateEventListener - saving transient instance 16:23:14.291 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.AbstractSaveEventListener - saving [TestEntities.User#<null>] 16:23:14.299 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.AbstractSaveEventListener - executing insertions 16:23:14.309 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.AbstractSaveEventListener - executing identity-insert immediately 16:23:14.313 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Persister.Entity.AbstractEntityPersister - Inserting entity: TestEntities.User (native id) 16:23:14.321 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.AdoNet.AbstractBatcher - Opened new IDbCommand, open IDbCommands: 1 16:23:14.321 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.AdoNet.AbstractBatcher - Building an IDbCommand object for the SqlString: INSERT INTO [User] (FirstName, LastName, Email, Password) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?); select SCOPE_IDENTITY() 16:23:14.322 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Persister.Entity.AbstractEntityPersister - Dehydrating entity: [TestEntities.User#<null>] 16:23:14.323 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Type.StringType - binding null to parameter: 0 16:23:14.323 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Type.StringType - binding null to parameter: 1 16:23:14.323 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Type.StringType - binding 'ertr' to parameter: 2 16:23:14.324 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Type.StringType - binding 'tretret' to parameter: 3 16:23:14.329 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.SQL - INSERT INTO [User] (FirstName, LastName, Email, Password) VALUES (@p0, @p1, @p2, @p3); select SCOPE_IDENTITY();@p0 = NULL, @p1 = NULL, @p2 = 'ertr', @p3 = 'tretret' and here is the output when using a Guid: 16:50:14.008 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.DefaultSaveOrUpdateEventListener - saving transient instance 16:50:14.012 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.AbstractSaveEventListener - generated identifier: d74e1bd3-1c01-46c8-996c-9d370115780d, using strategy: NHibernate.Id.GuidCombGenerator 16:50:14.013 [4] DEBUG NHibernate.Event.Default.AbstractSaveEventListener - saving [TestEntities.User#d74e1bd3-1c01-46c8-996c-9d370115780d] This is where it silently fails, with no exception thrown or further log entries. It looks like it is generating the Guid ID correctly for the new object, but is just not getting any further than that. Is there something I need to do differently in order to use Guid IDs? Thanks, Dan.
