  • asyncronous call doesn't return json

    - by Rebecca
    I am running wamp on an xp box. I am fairly new to web programming, this is for a student project, and have run out of avenues to try to solve this problem. Problem We have client side JavaScript code that uses GDownloadUrl- from the Google api- to wrap xmlHttpRequest calls to a php server side program that is accessing our database. In my callback program, the result of this call is always " ". However, if I use an alert to display the http:// call, with the arguments, and cut and paste that into my browser, the json I expected is displayed. I zipped my dir containing all the files, and tried it out on another team member's computer, and they were able to get the json in the callback function. Note this is exactly the same code and structure I was using, he just unzipped and ran. So now I'm thinking this is something about Firefox or Wamp? Would this be a config problem? I'm running wamp server 2.0, and Firefox 3.5.8. I have no problems with syncronous php, or reading in files asyncronously. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rebecca

  • Accessing XML file using JavaScript And ASP.net |VB code

    - by Bubba
    Am trying to read in data from an xml file but using javascript which is embedded into my asp.net|vb code. I am new to asp.net but coming from a programming background. so I declared the xml objects for the appropriate browsers, as well as the name of the local xml to read data from, I then start by appending the create the table tag and then append it to the div tag in hack5.aspx I declare the variable that will represent/ hold the xml returned data object. I then run a for loop , before creating a row tag and then appending it to the div tag in hack5.aspx I then create the a row tag and then appending it to the div tag in hack5.aspx | then create a TextNode which is passed to variable, then create a td and append to div . then lastly append the textnode to td this format is the same for creating another 13 td tags that are to hold the data. The main problem is when I run the script - I see nothing display on my screen . no errors are shown, but with your sample code runs smoothly. So the first file hack5.aspx is as follows: <%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="hack5.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title>Diplaying MessageBox from ASP.NET</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="showtime" > </div> </form> </body> </html> The next file hack5.aspx.vb is as follows: Partial Class _Default Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim scriptString as String = "<script language=JavaScript> if (window.XMLHttpRequest) " scriptString += " { " scriptString += " xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); • How to access method variables from within an anonymous function in JavaScript?

    - by Hussain
    I'm writing a small ajax class for personal use. In the class, I have a "post" method for sending post requests. The post method has a callback parameter. In the onreadystatechange propperty, I need to call the callback method. Something like this: this.requestObject.onreadystatechange = function() { callback(this.responseText); } However, I can't access the callback variable from within the anonomous function. How can I bring the callback variable into the scope of the onreadystatechange anonomous function? edit: Here's the full code so far: function request() { this.initialize = function(errorHandeler) { try { try { this.requestObject = new XDomainRequest(); } catch(e) { try { this.requestObject = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { try { this.requestObject = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); //newer versions of IE5+ } catch (e) { this.requestObject = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); //older versions of IE5+ } } } } catch(e) { errorHandeler(); } } this.post = function(url,data) { var response;var escapedData = ""; if (typeof data == 'object') { for (i in data) { escapedData += escape(i)+'='+escape(data[i])+'&'; } escapedData = escapedData.substr(0,escapedData.length-1); } else { escapedData = escape(data); } this.requestObject.open('post',url,true); this.requestObject.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); this.requestObject.setRequestHeader("Content-length", data.length); this.requestObject.setRequestHeader("Connection", "close"); this.requestObject.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4) { // call callback function } } this.requestObject.send(data); }

  • jQuery Dialog - Remote Page Javascript not running in FF / Chrome

    - by Robert
    Hey SO, I've created a page intended only to be opened via modal. This page contains a calendar of the User's favorite events...etc. I'm using the jQuery Dialog and FullCalendar plugins to do this. In IE, there is not issue...everything works fine. However, the Javascript on the remote page (Calendar.aspx) is never getting executed in FF or Chrome. Here's my code. SomeRandomPage.aspx $("#showcalendar").click(function() { var dialog = $('<div style="display:hidden"></div>').appendTo('body'); // load remote content dialog.load("Calendar.aspx", {}, function(responseText, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { dialog.dialog( { modal: true, width: 750, resizable: false, draggable: false, title: "My Calendar", closeOnEscape: false, close: function(event, ui) { $(this).remove(); } } ); }); }); } Calendar.aspx <!-- Necessary js above --> <div id="calendar"></div> <script> $(document).ready(function() { alert("HERE"); //Doesn't work in FF or Chrome. Works in IE $('#calendar').fullCalendar({ header: { left: 'prev,next today', center: 'title', right: 'month' }, editable: false, events: '/webservices/CalendarEvents.ashx' }); }); </script>

  • Help with HTML hyperlink please

    - by liz
    Hello, Can someone help me with this problem: I have a table in a jsp page, with the text in one column being hyperlinks. Whenever anyone of these hyperlinks is clicked the whole table should refresh and repopulate based on the value of the hyperlink clicked. My problem is currently when the hyperlink is clicked the page refreshes with an empty table. I have the following line of HTML code for performing this in my jsp page: <TD><A href="http://localhost:8080/pmweb/gui.jsp" onclick="getResults(param)">hyperlinktext</A></TD>; Below is my getResults function in javascript in the same JSP page: <script type="text/javascript"> var httpRequest; function getResults(param) { var url = "http://localhost:8080/pmweb/api/GetResultsByParam?param=" + param; httpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); httpRequest.open("GET", url, true); httpRequest.onreadystatechange = function() {processRequest(); } ; httpRequest.send(null); } I have verified that the getResults function above is working fine itself. When I debugged it I noticed that this getResults function is not entered when the hyperlink is clicked. Anyone know how to get the hyperlink calling the javascript function properly? Thanks very much in advance!

  • Streaming PDF via invocation of HTTPHandler using $.get into object element

    - by mythicdawn
    What I am trying to do is invoke an HTTPHandler via the $.get method of jQuery which will stream back a PDF and display it in a web page using an object element. My previous method of setting the src attribute of an IFrame to be the result of a handler invocation works, but I would like cross-browser completion notification, so have moved to using $.get(). Sample code: function buttonClick() { $.get("/PDFHandler.ashx", {}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { var pdfObjectString = "<object data='' type='application/pdf' width='600' height='600'></object>"; var pdfObject = $(pdfObjectString); pdfObject.attr("data", data); $("#container").append(pdfObject); }); As you can see, I am attempting to stick the 'data' variable into an object element. This is not working (no error, PDF just doesn't display), presumably because the data that comes back is binary, yet the attr() method expects a string (I think). My question is thus: how can I invoke an HTTPHandler via $.get and somehow assign the data from the callback to the data attribute of an object?

  • Website. AJAX and FIREFOX problems. I dont think Firefox likes ajax..?

    - by DJDonaL3000
    Working on an AJAX website (HTML,CSS,JavaScript, AJAX, PHP, MySQL). I have multiple javascript functions which take rows from mysql, wrap them in html tags, and embed them in the HTML (the usual usage of AJAX). THE PROBLEM: Everything is working perfect, except when I run the site with Firefox (for once its not InternetExplorer causing the trouble). The site is currently in the developmental stage, so its offline, but running on the localhost (WampServer, apache, Windows XP SP3,VISTA,7). All other cross-browser conflicts have been removed, and works perfectly on all major browsers including IE, Chrome, Opera and Safari, but I get absolutely nothing from the HTTPRequest (AJAX) if the browser is Firefox. All browsers have the latest versions. THE CODE: I have a series of javascript functions, all of which are structured as follows: function getDatay(){ var a = document.getElementById( 'item' ).innerHTML; var ajaxRequest; try{//Browser Support Code: // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari: ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e){ // code for IE6, IE5: try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e){ // Something went wrong alert("Your browser is not compatible - Browser Incompatibility Issue."); return false; } } } // Create a function that will receive data sent from the server ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(ajaxRequest.readyState < 4){ document.getElementById( 'theDiv' ).innerHTML = 'LOADING...'; } if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4){ document.getElementById( 'theDiv' ).innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } //Post vars to PHP Script and wait for response: var url="01_retrieve_data_7.php"; url=url+"?a="+a; ajaxRequest.open("POST", url, false);//must be false here to wait for ajaxRequest to complete. ajaxRequest.send(null); } My money is on the final five lines of code being the cause of the problem. Any suggestions how to get Firefox and AJAX working together are most welcome...

  • Cross-domain data access in JavaScript

    - by vit
    We have an ASP.Net application hosted on our network and exposed to a specific client. This client wants to be able to import data from their own server into our application. The data is retrieved with an HTTP request and is CSV formatted. The problem is that they do not want to expose their server to our network and are requesting the import to be done on the client side (all clients are from the same network as their server). So, what needs to be done is: They request an import page from our server The client script on the page issues a request to their server to get CSV formatted data The data is sent back to our application This is not a challenge when both servers are on the same domain: a simple hidden iframe or something similar will do the trick, but here what I'm getting is a cross-domain "access denied" error. They also refuse to change the data format to return JSON or XML formatted data. What I tried and learned so far is: Hidden iframe -- "access denied" XMLHttpRequest -- behaviour depends on the browser security settings: may work, may work while nagging a user with security warnings, or may not work at all Dynamic script tags -- would have worked if they could have returned data in JSON format IE client data binding -- the same "access denied" error Is there anything else I can try before giving up and saying that it will not be possible without exposing their server to our application, changing their data format or changing their browser security settings? (DNS trick is not an option, by the way).

    I am trying to use Chrome Dev for debugging the following Angular post request : $http.post("http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880/fluxpousse/api/flow/createOrUpdateHeader", flowHeader) After running the statement with right-click / evaluate, I can see the post in the network panel with a pending state. How can I get the result or "commit" the request and leave easily this "pending" state from the dev console ? I am not yet very familiar with JS callbacks, some code is expected. Thanks. EDIT I have tried to run from the console : $scope.$apply(function(){$http.post("http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880/fluxpousse/api/flow/createOrUpdateHeader", flowHeader).success(function(data){console.log("error "+data)}).error(function(data){console.log("error "+data)})}) It returns : undefined EDIT The post I am trying to solve generate an HTTP 400. Here is the result : Request URL:http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880/fluxpousse/api/flow/createOrUpdateHeader Request Method:POST Status Code:400 Mauvaise Requ?te Request Headersview source Accept:application/json, text/plain, / Accept-Encoding:gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language:fr-FR,fr;q=0.8,en-US;q=0.6,en;q=0.4 Connection:keep-alive Content-Length:5354 Content-Type:application/json;charset=UTF-8 Cookie:JSESSIONID=285AF523EA18C0D7F9D581CDB2286C56 Host:picjboss.puma.lan:8880 Origin:http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880 Referer:http://picjboss.puma.lan:8880/fluxpousse/ User-Agent:Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/30.0.1599.101 Safari/537.36 X-Requested-With:XMLHttpRequest Request Payloadview source {refHeader:IDSFP, idEntrepot:619, codeEntreprise:null, codeBanniere:null, codeArticle:7,…} cessionPrice: 78 codeArticle: "7" codeBanniere: null codeDateAppro: null codeDateDelivery: null codeDatePrepa: null codeEntreprise: null codeFournisseur: null codeUtilisateur: null codeUtilisateurLastUpdate: null createDate: null dateAppro: null dateDelivery: null datePrepa: null hasAssortControl: null hasCadenceForce: null idEntrepot: 619 isFreeCost: null labelArticle: "Mayonnaise de DIJON" labelFournisseur: null listDetail: [,…] pcbArticle: 12 pvc: 78 qte: 78 refCommande: "ref" refHeader: "IDSFP" state: "CREATED" stockArticle: 1200 updateDate: null Response Headersview source Connection:close Content-Length:996 Content-Type:text/html;charset=utf-8 Date:Fri, 08 Nov 2013 15:19:30 GMT Server:Apache-Coyote/1.1 X-Powered-By:Servlet 2.5; JBoss-5.0/JBossWeb-2.1

  • Is a full html page needed when loading a page with jQuery mobile?

    - by Vincent Hiribarren
    I am currently looking at jQuery mobile and its system of loading web pages with XmlHttpRequest. Thanks to that it is possible to automatically perform transition animations between two pages, for instance. However, something is not clear to me. If I understand correctly, each new page of a jQuery mobile powered website is injected in the DOM of the initial web page. The documentation of jQuery mobile even tells that because of this mechanism, the <title> tag of new webpages are not taken into account. So, in a way, if my initial webpage A.html loads a page B.html, I would tend to think that the webpage B.html does not need to have a full HTML grammar with the <html>, <head> or <body> tags. My page B.html could directly begin with a <div> element. Am I right?Is a full html page needed when loading a HTML page with jQuery mobile?What are the pros and cons about having a webpage with a wrong/truncated HTML syntax (appart that this page should not be accessed directly but through the main page)?

  • Chrome extension sendRequest from async callback not working?

    - by Eugene
    Can't figure out what's wrong. onRequest not triggered on call from async callback method, the same request from content script works. The sample code below. background.js ============= ... makeAsyncRequest(); ... chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) { switch (request.id) { case "from_content_script": // This works console.log("from_content_script"); sendResponse({}); // clean up break; case "from_async": // Not working! console.log("from_async"); sendResponse({}); // clean up break; } }); methods.js ========== makeAsyncRequest = function() { ... var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xhr.readyState == 4) { ... // It works console.log("makeAsyncRequest callback"); chrome.extension.sendRequest({id: "from_async"}, function(response) { }); } } ... }; UPDATE: manifest configuration file. Don't no what's wrong here. { "name": "TestExt", "version": "0.0.1", "icons": { "48": "img/icon-48-green.gif" }, "description": "write it later", "background_page": "background.html", "options_page": "options.html", "browser_action": { "default_title": "TestExt", "default_icon": "img/icon-48-green.gif" }, "permissions": [ "tabs", "http://*/*", "https://*/*", "file://*/*", "webNavigation" ] }

  • javascript read a text file

    - by Cyprus106
    I have looked everywhere and surprisingly can't find a good solution to this! I've got the following code that is supposed to read a text file and display it's contents. But it's not reading, for some reason. Am I doing something wrong? FTR, I can't use PHP for this. It's gotta be Javascript. var txtFile = new XMLHttpRequest(); txtFile.open("GET", "http://www.mysite.com/todaysTrivia.txt", true); txtFile.send(null); txtFile.onreadystatechange = function() { if (txtFile.readyState == 4) { // Makes sure the document is ready to parse. alert(txtFile.responseText+" - "+txtFile.status); //if (txtFile.status === 200) { // Makes sure it's found the file. var doc = document.getElementById("Trivia-Widget"); if (doc) { doc.innerHTML = txtFile.responseText ; } //} } txtFile.send(null); } Any good ideas what I'm doing wrong? It just keeps givimg me a zero status.

  • Problem in getting response from server in jquery

    - by Alvin
    Hello, I'm using $.ajax(options) method to pass the request to server based on username and password, but whenever I try to print the response by XMLHttpRequest object when response gets successful, I'm getting an empty value. $(document).ready(function(){ $("#form").submit(function(){ $.ajax({url:"Chat.jsp",type:"POST",data:$("#form").serialize(),success:function(request) { alert(request.responseText); //This is displaying nothing },error:function(){document.write("YOU can't");}}); }); }); This is what I'm doing in my servlets code after executing query: try { String user = request.getParameter("j_username"); String password = request.getParameter("j_password"); if(user != null && password != null) { String query = "Select * from users where user_name="+"\'"+user+"\'"+"&& user_pass="+"\""+password+"\""; DBCheck db= new DBCheck(); boolean b = db.doExecuteQuery(con.createStatement(),query); response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache"); if(b) { response.getWriter().println("Username already exits"); } else { response.getWriter().println("Username doesn't exit"); } } } catch(SQLException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } May I know the problem, and how can I fix it?

  • How do you submit an authenticated HTML form using XUL (Firefox extension) Javascript?

    - by machineghost
    I am working on a Firefox extension, and in that extension I am trying to use AJAX to submit a form on a webpage. I am using: var request = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/xmlextras/xmlhttprequest;1"].createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsIXMLHttpRequest); request.onload = loadHandler; request.open("POST", url, true); request.send(values); to make the request, and it works ... mostly. The one problem is that the form has an authentication token on it, and I need to submit that token with my POST. I tried doing a GET separately to get this token, but by the time I made my second (POST) request my session had (evidently) changed, and the authenticity token was considered invalid. Does anyone know of a way to use the XUL/Chrome Javscript to maintain a constant session across multiple requests (all "behind the scenes") for something this? I'm still a XUL n00b, so there may be a totally obvious alternative that I'm missing (eg. hidden IFRAME; I tried that briefly but couldn't get it to work).

  • Ajax Request using jQuery in Rails

    - by Steve
    Hi... I am sending an Ajax Request using jQuery. What happens is that I am getting an "405 Method Not Allowed" Error. I am just posting a form, which would get the detail from the form and insert it into the DB. Just the usual stuff.I am using WEBrick that comes as default with the rails package. Can somebody please tell me how to fix this. This is the code that triggers the Ajax Request $.post($(this).attr("action") + ".js",$(this).serialize(),null,"script"); Response Headers Cache-Control no-cache Allow GET, PUT, DELETE Content-Type text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length 9502 Server WEBrick/1.3.1 (Ruby/1.9.1/2009-12-07) Date Wed, 02 Jun 2010 20:41:33 GMT Connection Keep-Alive Request Headers Host localhost:3000 User-Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Accept application/json, text/javascript, */* Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive 115 Connection keep-alive Content-Type application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8 X-Requested-With XMLHttpRequest Referer http://localhost:3000/viewspot/3 Content-Length 141 Pragma no-cache Cache-Control no-cache

  • Somewhat lost with jquery + php + json

    - by Luis Armando
    I am starting to use the jquery $.ajax() but I can't get back what I want to...I send this: $(function(){ $.ajax({ url: "graph_data.php", type: "POST", data: "casi=56&nada=48&nuevo=98&perfecto=100&vales=50&apenas=70&yeah=60", dataType: "json", error: function (xhr, desc, exceptionobj) { document.writeln("El error de XMLHTTPRequest dice: " + xhr.responseText); }, success: function (json) { if (json.error) { alert(json.error); return; } var output = ""; for (p in json) { output += p + " : " + json[p] + "\n"; } document.writeln("Results: \n\n" + output); } }); }); and my php is: <?php $data = $_POST['data']; function array2json($data){ $json = $data; return json_encode($json); } ?> and when I execute this I come out with: Results: just like that I used to have in the php a echo array2json statement but it just gave back gibberish...I really don't know what am I doing wrong and I've googled for about 3 hours just getting basically the same stuff. Also I don't know how to pass parameters to the "data:" in the $.ajax function in another way like getting info from the web page, can anyone please help me? Edit I did what you suggested and it prints the data now thank you very much =) however, I was wondering, how can I send the data to the "data:" part in jQuery so it takes it from let's say user input, also I was checking the php documentation and it says I'm allowed to write something like: json_encode($a,JSON_HEX_TAG|JSON_HEX_APOS|JSON_HEX_QUOT|JSON_HEX_AMP) however, if I do that I get an error saying that json_encode accepts 1 parameter and I'm giving 2...any idea why? I'm using php 5.2

  • jQuery and AJAX?

    - by Moshe
    I'm making a simple form which has 5 input elements for parts of an address. I use jQuery to build and send an AJAX request to a PHP file on my server. For some reason my jQuery is not properly able to read the values from my input elements. What could be wrong? Here is my jQuery: $('#submitButton').click(function(){ $('#BBRequestBox').html('<img src="images/loading.gif" />'); alert('Info: ' + $('#name').val() + ' ' + $('#street').val() + ' ' + $('#city').val() + ' ' + $('#state').val() + ' ' + $('#zip').val() + ' '); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "./bbrequest.php", data: {name: $('#name').val(), street: $('#street').val(), city: $('#city').val(), state: $('#state').val(), zip: $('#zip').val() }, success: function(msg){ $('#BBRequestBox').html('<p>' + msg + '</p>'); }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown){ $('#BBRequestBox').html('<p> There\'s been an error: ' + errorThrown + '</p>'); } }); return false; }); Here is my HTML: <form action="#"> <label>Name:</label><input type="text" id="name" class="textbox"/> <label>Street:</label><input type="text" id="street" class="textbox" /> <label>City:</label><input type="text" id="city"class="textbox" /> <label>State:</label><input type="text" id="state" class="textbox"/> <label>Zip:</label><input type="text" id="zip" class="textbox" /> <input type="submit" value="Send Me a Bitachon Builder!" id="submitButton" /> </form>

  • use of ajax in django problem with the code

    I am new to ajax and using Django for web development. Now My Template contains : sample.html <html> <body> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> //Browser Support Code function ajaxFunction(){ var ajaxRequest; // The variable that makes Ajax possible! try{ // Opera 8.0+, Firefox, Safari ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e){ // Internet Explorer Browsers try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e){ // Something went wrong alert("Your browser broke!"); return false; } } } // Create a function that will receive data sent from the server ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4){ document.myForm.time.value = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } ajaxRequest.open("GET", "/showtime/", true); ajaxRequest.send(null); } </script> <form name='myForm'> Name: <input type='text' onBlur="ajaxFunction();" name='username' /> <br /> Time: <input type='text' name='time' /> </form> </body> </html> In views.py my function is : def showtime(request): string = "Ajax Application" data = {"string" : string} pprint (data) return render_to_response("sample.html",data) Now, The output is not as expected .   • jQuery $.ajax calls success handler when reuqest fails because of browser reloading

    - by Martin
    I have the following code: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: url, data: sendable, dataType: "json", success: function(data) { if(customprocessfunc) customprocessfunc(data); }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown){ // error handler here } }); I have a timer which makes AJAX requests often. If I do not receive anything in 'data', I show an error message to the user - it means, something wnet bad on the server. The problem is when user reloads the page while the AJAX call is in progress. I can see in the firebug that the AJAX call fails (URL is colored red and no HTTP status is displayed) so I expect that jQuery will stop the reuqest or at least go to the error handler. But it goes to the success handler and passes null in the 'data' variable. As a result, when user reloads the page, sometimes he can see my big red message about unknown error (because data is null). Is there any way to make jQuery abort the request on complete reloading all at least not to call my success function? I have no way to know in the success handler why the data is null - did it came empty from the server or the call was aborted because of reload.

It's basically a widget that other folks can put on their own websites that grabs a line of text from my website and displays it on theirs. The problem is that it really can't be server-side since I've got zero control over everyone else's sites that use this.
