anybody has a mirror, or an export for VS 2008?
What is the cleanest, most reliable way to run a Windows application as a service without touching its code?
Use case: NorthScale's 64-bit Windows version of memcached runs as a generic application. I'd like to stick it into a Windows 2003 or 2008 Service so I can start/stop/restart/etc it through the standard interface.
We have a project which is being developed by a 3rd party. They are using LINQ and .NET 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008. We are currently at 2005 with .NET 2. Once they have delivered the code to us, we are unsure as to whether we will be able to compile/build their code using our current Visual Studio toolkit. I know we can download .NET 3.5, but unsure as to whether we will have problems with Visual Studio.
So we are considering to upgrade. But since Visual Studio 2010 is soon to be released do we wait for that or upgrade to 2008?
Hi,
I have a Visual Studio 2008 setup which I created for a Visual C++ project. Is there any way that I can get the installation path that the user specifies at the installation folder prompt?
Thank You!
I'm using SQL Server 2008 Express and I'm doing a bulk insert of data. I'd like to have more verbose error messages, ideally printing the data that failed to be inserted. Is that possible?
Does anyone know how to fix issue with TrustedInstaller.exe when it takes a lot of CPU?
Operating system: Windows 2008 x64
Windows' Modules Installer service is set to Manual.
Hello everyone,
I am using SharePoint Server 2007 with collaboration portal template on Windows Server 2008. The default search address for a site is pointed to /SearchCenter/Pages/Results.aspx. Any ideas how to change the address to some other address? Either programming solution or easy config solution is fine.
thanks in advance,
George
I was using
CreateEx(
0,
className,
"XXX",
WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_CLIPSIBLINGS | WS_CLIPCHILDREN,
rect,
parent,
0);
in Visual C++ 6.0.
when i port the same to VS 2008..,
its giving an error message saying that..
error C2664: 'BOOL CWnd::CreateEx(DWORD,LPCTSTR,LPCTSTR,DWORD,const RECT &,CWnd *,UINT,LPVOID)' : cannot convert parameter 3 from 'const char [7]' to 'LPCTSTR'
how to rectify the same
thanks

It appears there is a memory leak in the Status property of the SMO Database class.
Using the code below with SQL 2005 SMO libraries works fine, but as soon as you use SQL 2008, the memory leak appears....
Any other good way of getting the database staus in SQL 2008?
A quick example that magnifies the problem:
private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
for (int x = 0; x < 100; x++)
{
CheckStatus();
}
}
private void CheckStatus()
{
Server server = new Server("YourServer");
DatabaseCollection dbc = server.Databases;
if (dbc.Contains("YourDatabase"))
{
DatabaseStatus dbStatus = dbc["YourDatabase"].Status;
}
}
Hi,
I installed SQL Server 2008 on a Win XP SP2 workstation in a AD domain and configured to run with the "Network Service" account. In my error log I have the following message (Event ID:26037):
The SQL Server Network Interface library could not register the Service
Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. **Error: 0xd, state: 13**.
Failure to register an SPN may cause integrated authentication to fall
back to NTLM instead of Kerberos. This is an informational message.
Further action is only required if Kerberos authentication is required
by authentication policies.
The strange thing is that I have another SQL Server 2008 installation in a Win 2003 server configured in the same way and there I do not have this message.
My questions are:
Does anybody know if there are limitations with Kerberos on Windows XP and SQL Server?
Why the SPN is not automatically registered on Win XP when I use the "Network Service" but it works on Windows 2003 server?
THANKS!

Is there any Visual Studio Express plug ins for source versioning? I am starting a project on my own and only have the Express version of Visual Studio 2008.
Hi,
I have the following query which uses a date variable, which is generated inside the stored procedure:
DECLARE @sp_Date DATETIME
SET @sp_Date = DateAdd(m, -6, GETDATE())
SELECT DISTINCT pat.PublicationID
FROM PubAdvTransData AS pat
INNER JOIN PubAdvertiser AS pa ON pat.AdvTransID = pa.AdvTransID
WHERE (pat.LastAdDate > @sp_Date) AND (pa.AdvertiserID = 12345))
The problem is that the @sp_Date value appears to be being ignored and I am wondering why? Have I defined or used it incorrectly?
sql microsoft sql-server-2008
User error...
Thanks, R.
I am using InstallShield 2008 premium edition. I created one basicMSI project only to target x64 platforms. I changed summary property to "x64".
But this installer is writing registry entries in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CompanyName\ProductName" .
I am using both installshield script and vc++ DLL for custom actions.
Why x64 installer is using WOW64 registry ?
I am working through the book Learning WCF by Michele Bustamante, and trying to do it using Visual Studio C# Express 2008. The instructions say to use WCF project and item templates, which are not included with VS C# Express. There are templates for these types included with Visual Studio Web Developer Express, and I've tried to copy them over into the right directories for VS C# Express to find, but the IDE doesn't find them. Is there some registration process? Or config file somewhere?
Hi guys,
I have two SQL Server 2008 databases called Anna and Bob.
Bob has to pull and transform data from Anna to keep updated
his tables.
Ideally Bob will be
always synchronized with Anna,
but some delay would be acceptable.
What is the best way to do this?
Thanks in advance.
I've created a windows service in c#, using Visual Studio 2008
I pretty much followed this:
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/simplewindowsservice.aspx
I created a setup project, as instructed to in the article, and ran it...
it installs my service to c:\program files\product etc.... however, it does not then appear in the services list..
What am i missing?
Often I will click on my GUI Designer in Visual Studio 2008 SP1, and it will flash randomly and freeze up.
Has this happened to anyone else? I have no idea where to begin checking on the issue. Any advice/insight/laughter is appreciated.
Hi,
I just wanna find out if there's a way to include MySQL's Connector/Net along with my application while creating an installer using Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
Connector/Net is a fully-managed ADO.NET driver for MySQL.
Other suggestions in creating an installer for this issue is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi,
My company receives data from an external company via Excel. We export this into SQL Server to run reports on the data. They are now changing to PDF format, is there a way to reliably port the data from the PDF and insert it into our SQL Server 2008 database?
Would this require writing an app or is there an automated way of doing this?
I have visual Studio 2008.
I have noticed that I cam make WPF applications with Visual Studio. Does this mean that it can do the work that Expression Studio does?
I am going to install Visual Studio 2010. Does this do away with the necessity of Expression Studio?
Hi there,
I am currently building a webshop for my own where I want to increment the product-stock when the user fails to complete payment within 10 minutes after the customer placed the order. I want to gather information from this thread to make a design decision.
I am using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5. Should I use a SQL Server Job who intervals check the orders which are not payed yet or are there better solutions to do this.
Thanks in advance!
Martijn
I'm using MS SQL 2008.
Is it possible to create a script to loop over all tables in a database generating a set of index drop scripts and create scripts separately?
What I have to do is drop all indexes on a set of databases to run a heavy data load process but then I want to re-enable all the indexes. I don't want to have to go through each table and script an index drop and then index create.
Thanks!
Ok, I see that people have asked this question before, but I'm seeing some conflicting statements.
Can I, or can I not, connect directly to my SQL Azure database from SSMSE 2008? I see posts from before November that the SSMS 2008 RC would be able to connect directly - so I don't understand why the newest SSMSE cannot connect.
Is it just a problem with the Express version of SSMS? Where can I find the "non-Express" version, if there is one?
I can connect to the database via the cancel and connect method - however, you don't get object explorer that way. I see that there are add-ons for VS.Net to allow you to explore the database but I wanted to do it with the base apps if possible.
Thanks
