  • How do I get Hudson to stop escaping parts of my shell script?

    I would like to have a shell script that copies some logs from a part of my system to the hudson workspace so I can archive them. So right now I have #!/bin/bash -ex cp /directory/structure/*.log . This is kind enough to be changed to cp '/directory/structure/*.log' . Which of course is not found since I don't have a file named *.log. So how do I get this script to work?

  • is it possible that a greasemonkey script can work on one computer but not on another?

    I want to create a simple script that tags the latest revision to the tags folder, for example: for Trunk directory head revision 114, it will create a tag of this directory to the Tags directory which goes by the name "r114". I don't really care of what scripting language it'll use (as long as it runs on windows). I tried creating such script using SVN CLI tool, but it failed connecting to a SSL repository. How can I achieve that?

  • What is the best way to reduce code and loop through a hierarchial commission script?

    I have a script which currently "works" but is nearly 3600 lines of code and makes well over 50 database calls within a single script. From my experience, there is no way to really "loop" the script and minimize it because each call to the database is a subquery of the ones before based on referral ids. Perhaps I can give a very simple example of what I am trying to accomplish and see if anybody has experience with something similar. In my example, there are three tables: Table 1 - Sellers ID | Comm_level | Parent ----------------------------------- 1 | 4 | NULL 2 | 3 | 1 3 | 2 | 1 4 | 2 | 2 5 | 2 | 2 6 | 1 | 3 Where ID is the id of one of our sales agents, comm_level will determine what his commission percentage is for each product he sells, parent indicates the ID for whom recruited that particular agent. In the example above, 1 is the top agent, he recruited two agents, 2 and 3. 2 recruited two agents, 4 and 5. 3 recruited one agent, 6. NOTE: An agent can NEVER recruit anybody equal to or higher than their own level.   • How do I set bash environment variables from a script?

    I have some proxy settings that I only occasionally want to turn on, so I don't want to put them in my ~/.bash_profile. I tried putting them directly in ~/bin/set_proxy_env.sh, adding ~/bin to my PATH, and chmod +xing the script but though the script runs, the variables don't stick in my shell. Does anyone know how to get them to stick around for the rest of the shell session?

    Hi, I have a PHP script that runs database queries. Now, if a query fails, should I trigger an error or throw an exception? I noticed that if I do the latter, the script execution will stop after facing the exception. My code is as follows: if (!$this->connection[0]->query($this->query)) throw new Exception($this->connection[0]->error); What are the pros and cons of using exceptions for this kind of cases (failed queries)?

  • Php exec() return code is -1 when in a forked process, but 0 in a normal script

    I am using exec() inside a a script that runs as a daemon and forks child processes using the pear class Net_Server. I am getting a strange issue whereby the return code (the third param of of exec) comes back as -1. When I run the command on the command line, or with exec in a normal php script the return code is 0 as it should be. Anyone have any idea why this is happening, and how to fix it?

    Hi, I asked a question yesterday about how to manage to get %% around a variable without getting the evaluation. Well, the thing is, it does not work that way in my case... I have a .bat file which gets an input parameter. Later on I want to use the value of this input parameter and put %...% around, like: call script.bat testValue script.bat: set inputPar=%1 set newValue=%%inputPar%% Now I get: echo %inputPar% testValue echo %newValue% %inputPar% But I would like to get: echo %newValue% %testValue% Is that somehow possible?

    i've been attempting to script a database using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. i cannot get it to script some objects. It scripts others, but skips some. i can provide detailed screen shots the options being selected including all tables the folder where the script files will go the folder being empty before scripting the scripting process saying Sucess when scripting a table the destination folder no longer empty, with a hundred or so script files the script of some tables not being in the folder. And earlier SSMS would not script some views. Is this a known thing that the the Generate Scripts task does not generate scripts? Update Known issue on Microsoft Connect, but Microsoft couldn't repro the steps, so they closed closed the ticket. Fails on SQL Server 2005, also fails on SQL Server 2008. Update Two Some basic questions: 1.What version of SQL Server?     In Chrome 20 and older versions, you could simply open any .user.js file in Chrome and it would prompt you to install the user script. However, in Chrome 21 and up, it downloads the file instead, and displays a warning at the top saying “Extensions, apps, and user scripts can only be added from the Chrome Web Store”. The “Learn More” link points to http://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2664769, but that page doesn’t say anything about user scripts, only about extensions in .crx format, apps, and themes. This part sounded interesting: Enterprise Administrators: You can specify URLs that are allowed to install extensions, apps, and themes directly through the ExtensionInstallSources policy. So, I ran the following commands, then restarted Chrome and Chrome Canary: defaults write com.google.Chrome ExtensionInstallSources -array "https://gist.github.com/*" defaults write com.google.Chrome.canary ExtensionInstallSources -array "https://gist.github.com/*" Sadly, these settings only seem to affect extensions, apps, and themes (as it says in the text), not user scripts. (I’ve filed a bug asking to make this setting affect user scripts as well.) Any ideas on how to install a private user script (that I don’t want to add to the Chrome Web Store) in Chrome 21+? Update: The problem was that gist.github.com’s raw URLs redirect to a different domain.   • How to start a s3ql script automatically on boot?

    I've been experimenting with s3ql on Ubuntu 10.04, using it to mount Amazon S3 buckets. However, I'd really like it to mount them automatically. Does anyone know how to do that? I've been working on a script, which works when its run from from the commandline, but for some reason I can't get it to run automatically on boot. Does anyone have any ideas?   • Kickstart: Serve dynamic kickstart images via a CGI or PHP script?

    I'd like to kickstart a couple dozen RHEL6/SL6 servers. However, some of these servers are different and I don't want to create a new ks.cfg file for each class of server. Are there any products which can generate a Kickstart file dynamically on the fly, from a template? For example, if I append a line like this to the KERNEL: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi Then the script ks.cgi can determine what host this is (Via the MAC address), and print out Kickstart options which are appropriate for that host. I could optionally override some options by passing parameters to the script, like this: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi?NODETYPE=production&IP=192.168.2.80 After we kickstart the server, we activate Cfengine/Puppet on this system and manage the system using our favorite Configuration Management product. We're experimenting with xCAT but it is proving too cumbersome. I've looked into Cobbler, but I'm not sure it does this. Update: A roll-your-own solution is discussed in the O'Reilly book: Managing RPM-Based Systems with Kickstart and Yum, Chapter 3. Customizing Your Kickstart Install Dynamic ks.cfg, which echos some of the comments in this thread: To implement such a tool is beyond the scope of this Short Cut, but I can walk through the high-level design. Any such solution would mix a data store (the things that change) with a templating solution (the things that don’t change). The data store would hold the per-machine data, such as the IP address and hostname. You would also need a unique identifier, perhaps the hostname, such that you could pick up a given machine’s data. The data store could be a flat file, XML data, or a relational database such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. In turn, to invoke the system, you pass a machine’s unique identifier as a URL parameter. For example: boot: linux ks=http://your.kickstart.server/gen_config?host-server25 In this example, the CGI (or servlet, or whatever) generates a ks.cfg for the machine server25. But where, oh where, is the code for ks.cgi?
