• Firefox: Unload a tab manually

  Firefox has a setting "Don't load tabs until selected" (see How do I make Firefox 13 Load All My Tabs on Startup or when Resuming Reload). I like that behaviour. I am searching for a way to "deload"/deactivate a tab manually for a session (until I reload it). It should stop all running JavaScript functions and plugins (like Flash). The whole webpage content may disappear until I reload/re-activate the tab, but that is not a requirement. The title has to be displayed as tab label (like it is the case with the startup setting, too). The workaround would be to restart Firefox and don't switch to the tab I want to be deactivated. This is pretty annoying, of course. EDIT: Here is what I found so far (thanks, @bytebuster!) • scponly worked but didn't chroot the home folder, the user can still browse the entire server.

  So I followed the "Chroot and Debian" tutorial in http://sublimation.org/scponly/wiki/index.php/FAQ Then when I log into user "upload" via ssh I have no access to the command line (this is what I wanted). But then when I SFTP into the upload user I can still see all the root files (/), it didn't chroot me to just /home/upload whats going on? …. I added this to the end of my /etc/ssh/sshd_config file, then done a restart Subsystem sftp internal-sftp UsePAM yes Match User upload ChrootDirectory /home/upload AllowTCPForwarding no X11Forwarding no ForceCommand internal-sftp Then when I log into sftp I can only see my upload folder (this is what I want), but now scp doesn't work :P SCP will accept my password then: debug1: Next authentication method: password [email protected]'s password: debug1: Authentication succeeded (password). debug1: channel 0: new [client-session] debug1: Requesting [email protected] debug1: Entering interactive session. debug1: Sending environment. debug1: Sending env LANG = en_NZ.UTF-8 debug1: Sending command: scp -v -t /test It will hang on that last debug message. • What's the best way to telnet from a remote Windows PC without using RDP?

  Three Networks: 10.1.1.0 - Mine 172.1.1.0 - My Branch Office 172.2.2.0 - My Branch Office's VOIP VLAN. My PC is on 10.1.1.0. I need to telnet into a Cisco router on 172.2.2.0. The 10.1.1.0 network has no routes to 172.2.2.0, but a VPN connects 10.1.1.0 to 172.1.1.0. Traffic on 172.1.1.0 can route to 172.2.2.0. All PCs on 172.1.1.0 are running Windows XP. Without disrupting anyone using those PCs, I want to open a telnet session from one of those PCs to the router on 172.2.2.0. I've tried the following: psexec.exe \\branchpc telnet 172.2.2.1 psexec.exe \\branchpc cmd.exe telnet 172.2.2.1 psexec.exe \\branchpc -c plink -telnet 172.2.2.1 Methods 1 and 2 both failed because telnet.exe is not usable over psexec. Method 3 actually succeeded in creating the connection, but I cannot login because the session registers my carriage return twice. My password is always blank because at the "Username:" prompt I'm effectively typing: Routeruser[ENTER][ENTER] It's probably time to deploy WinRM... Does anyone know of any other alternatives? Does anyone know how I can fix plink.exe so it only receives one carriage return when I use it over psexec?

• PhpMyAdmin 500 Internal Server Error on Nginx/php5-fpm/Debian

  I downloaded PhpMyAdmin a while ago and am having a hard time getting it to work. Requesting localhost/phpmyadmin gives a 500 Internal Server Error response, but there's nothing in the error log. These are the steps I did: Downloaded the newest phpmyadmin and unzipped all the files to /var/vhosts/phpmyadmin/www/ Created a new php5-fpm pool and a server block on nginx Changed the owner of all the files inside phpmyadmin/ Tried requesting localhost/phpmyadmin and localhost/phpmyadmin/setup The phpmyadmin is running inside a chroot, and all the files are owned by www-data so it shouldn't be a permission error. I made a new php file in the same directory to produce an error and it logs just fine so it has to be just phpmyadmin. • Open an X application going through many hoops (SSH, vpn etc)

  The players: my home computer, running Linux with an X server running. (Call it HOME.) a remote site, to which I can connect over the internet using a VPN. (SITE) a Linux computer at the remote site, to which I can connect with ssh -X and nicely have X clients displaying on my local server. (MIDDLE) a very old Irix machine (an Onyx) at the remote site, which has no SSH server (therefore I can't ssh -X to it), only an ssh client. (ONYX) Purpose I need to run an X11 application on the ONYX machine, and see the GUI on HOME. I think I stumble upon xauth issues. So far The current situation is: ? HOME connects to SITE ? A vncserver starts on MIDDLE:7 ? vncviewer on HOME connects to vncserver on MIDDLE ? ONYX starts a forwarding ssh session to MIDDLE: ssh -TfN -L 6007:127.0.0.1:6007 MIDDLE ? DISPLAY=localhost:7 xclient on ONYX fails with Xlib: connection to "127.0.0.1:7.0" refused by server I do know that the forwarding (6007:127.0.0.1:6007) succeeds. A previous attempt was: ? HOME connects to SITE ? HOME connects to MIDDLE: ssh -X MIDDLE (xclock displays on HOME, DISPLAY is 127.0.0.1:10) ? ONYX starts an SSH tunnel to MIDDLE: ssh -TfN -L 6010:127.0.0.1:6010 MIDDLE ? DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:10 xclient fails with X connection to 127.0.0.1:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). while an error pops up in the MIDDLE session: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. • Configuring PAM with pam_mount; getting a dlopen() with an HX_Init error

  I'm trying to get automounting upon login working on Ubuntu 10.03 Beta 2. I didn't find a package for pam_mount, so I ended downloading it and building it. • Safe use of Update-FormatData?

  In a custom PowerShell module, I have at the top of my module definition this code: Update-FormatData -AppendPath (Join-Path $psscriptroot "*.ps1xml") This is working fine as all .ps1xml files are loaded. However, the module is sometimes loaded using Import-Module MyModule -Force (actually, this is in the install script of the module). In this case, the call to Update-FormatData fails with this error : Update-FormatData : There were errors in loading the format data file: Microsoft.PowerShell, c:\pathto\myfile.Types.ext.ps1xml : File skipped because it was already present from "Microsoft.PowerShell". At line:1 char:18 + Update-FormatData <<<< -AppendPath "c:\pathto\myfile.Types.ext.ps1xml" + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [Update-FormatData], RuntimeException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : FormatXmlUpateException,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.UpdateFormatDataCommand Is there a way to safely call this command? • Find which files an apache process is writing to?

  We have this apache process which becomes io-bound time to time. Using atop, we can see it is a write operation. Using lsof -p <PID> we can see a list of files open by the httpd process. First we thought "log" files must be the problem. So we turned them off just to test. However write operations still continues. We will continue testing a few other things. For instance we use php session variables a lot. Maybe php session files are getting all the writing. But is there a way to quickly identify files which get written to by the httpd process? This way we can focus our efforts on those files. UPDATE: We used the strace command as suggested. Here are two lines from the output. write(23, "\27\0\0\0\3SET CHARACTER SET utf8", 27) = 27 write(23, "\17\0\0\0\3SET NAMES utf8", 19) = 19 We do not have a mysql process on this server. So is strace also showing what is being written to an ethernet port? UPDATE2: During high io load, the process which consumes most of the write resources gives the following output to strace -e trace=write -p <PID>: --- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) --- write(9, "!", 1) = 1 write(19, "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0\r\nUser-Agent: Apache (internal dummy connection)\r\n\r\n", 70) = 70 However I cannot figure out where these are being written to.

• Configure X connections over TCP without using an X connection

  I want to run a GUI application on a remote machine I only have ssh access to. I don't need to, or want to, see the GUI window. (I know I could use something like ssh -C -X remote_server if I wanted the GUI to be on my client.) I know X is running on the remote machine, as ps shows this: root ... /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -br -audit 0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7 I set DISPLAY=:0.0 but I then get "Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server" when I try to use it. At Get remote x display working in linux without ssh tunneling and Xserver doesn't work unless DISPLAY=0.0 I see the advice to use gdmsetup to allow X to listen on TCP. But, gdmsetup is a GUI application! And trying to run it over ssh -X did not work ("X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication"). So, is there a text file I can edit to remove -nolisten? And, after editing it, how do I safely restart X, remotely? (There is other stuff running on this machine, so requesting a reboot is possible, but undesirable.) If not, should gdmsetup be able to run over ssh and I should persevere in that direction? UPDATE: I had to do the ssh -X session as root (ssh as a normal user, then sudo or su, does not work.) So, I did the edit with gdmsetup. I then restarted X with gdm-restart. I've also done xhost + from that ssh -X session. The ps line no longer shows the -nolisten tcp part. But still no luck connecting to it, with either DISPLAY=:0 or DISPLAY=localhost:0

  According to Cisco's documentation: "The MAC address tables on all stack members are synchronized. At any given time, each stack member has the same copy of the address tables for each VLAN." We are currently waiting to hear back on CIsco from this, but has anyone run into this before? I stumbled upon this when looking into Unicast flooding, one of the hosts that is a destination MAC of flooding has a MAC entry that appears in session 3, but nowhere else. Also, I checked an all sessions show the same aging time.

• Remote Desktop svchost (networkservice) & lsa.exe high cpu usage, hangs on welcome screen

  We have deployed an RDS Farm with 12 virtual RDS servers using Hyper V. Currently some users are not able to log on. After passing credentials to the connection broker, the session hangs on the "Welcome" screen. Using resource monitor we've seen that svchost (with the "networkservice" service) has a CPU usage of 50%, when viewing the wait chain on the process it displays that it's waiting for a lsa.exe to finish. We can't kill any of the users processes, even when trying with taskkill /f. Suspending lsa.exe did work but didn't have any effect. The networkservice also couldn't be restarted. Also, if this happens, the current users logged on to the RDS server can't be displayed. Task manager crashes when viewing the users, RDS service manager crashes when viewing the users (even remotely) and the cmd command "query session" doesn't work. No antivirus is installed on the RDS server. The only thing we can do is rebooting the server, which is not an option because of the fact that other users are in active sessions. Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on? We didn't encounter this in our pre-production setup.

• Apache form authentication issues

  I am trying to authenticate users through Apache using the form authentication method to restrict https requests to a certain folder. Although, regardless of whether the correct login details are provided it keeps reloading the same page except the url has the form values embedded in it instead of redirecting to the appropriate page. I need to use the form authentication type instead of basic so I can write my own html for the user to login. I am using Apache 2.4.9 and this is our current configuration. • Executing a git command using remote powershell results in a NativeCommmandError

  I am getting an error while executing a remote PowerShell script. From my local machine I am running a PowerShell script that uses Invoke-Command to cd into a directory on a remote Amazon Windows Server instance, and a subsequent Invoke-Command to execute script that lives on that server instance. The script on the server is trying to git clone a repository from GitHub. I can successfully do things in the server script like "ls" or even "git --version". However git clone, git pull, etc. result in the following error: Cloning into 'MyRepo'... + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (Cloning into 'MyRepo'...:String) [], RemoteException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandError This is my first time using PowerShell or a Windows Server. Can anyone provide some direction on this problem. The client script: $s = new-pssession -computername $server -credential $user invoke-command -session $s -scriptblock { cd C:\Repos; ls } invoke-command -session $s -scriptblock { param ($repo, $branch) & '.\clone.ps1' -repository $repo -branch $branch} -ArgumentList $repository, $branch exit-pssession The server script: param([string]$repository = "repository", [string]$branch = "branch") git --version start-process -FilePath git -ArgumentList ("clone", "-b $branch https://github.com/MyGithub/$repository.git") -Wait I've changed the server script to use start process and it is no longer throwing the exception. It creates the new repository directory and the .git directory but doesn't write any of the files from the github repository. This smells like a permissions issue. Once again invoking the script manually (remote desktop into the amazon box and execute it from powershell) works like a charm.

• Why PC reboots when there’s a power failure even with UPS?

  I've purchased a Line Interactive UPS 1200VA. It's supposed to give 8~20min backup (as written in the manual). This UPS has transfer time < 10ms. It works fine when the mains is active. But the problem is that when the power went off, the PC also went off for a fraction of a second and started rebooting. The strangest thing though is that it has to be a proper power failure by the service supplier. If I just turn off the power at the wall plug, the UPS kicks in immediately and the PC carries on working fine. What's the solution of that? What should I do? My hard drive was physically damaged because of improper shut down & restart. I've 5~8 times power outage in my country so I badly need an UPS.

  We recently had an issues where I had rebooted our EC2 instance (Ubuntu x86_64, version 9.10 server) and due to an EC2 issue the instance needed to be stopped and was down for a few days. Now I have been able to bring the instance back online I cannot connect to SSH using the keypair which previously worked.   Is there a Windows 7 Explorer keyboard shortcut to set focus to files/folders/content area (depicted below)? This has bothered me for so long... I want to set my explorer window's focus to the files pane (shown below). What's the most efficient way to do that with a keyboard? Here's what I've been doing: - Tab / Shift+Tab to move focus through interactive window elements until it looks like a selection rectangle appears over one of the files in my window. - Alt+V, Alt+D to change appearance setting of a folder contents' icons. Doesn't always work, depending on what's selected at the time.

• XenServer: Editing clone configuration before boot

  Upon cloning a base image, I need to reconfigure basic settings. Regenerating the ssh host key, changing static IP assignments, setting the host name, etc. Because of the network setup, DHCP is not an option. That more or less rules out SSHing in with a predefined key or running a startup script since I can't provide the IP externally. I'd most like to mount the filesystem of the new machine on Dom0, but the lvm volumes are exported and it appears to be Bad Form to import them so the Dom0 machine can see them. What's your best suggestion for altering files in a cloned VM before boot? Must be non-interactive, and I'm going to guess out the gate that scripting access via xe console is not going to work well.
