  • MYSQL TRIGGER LOOP

    - by Lee
Hey all I am going through the pain stacking process of sorting out someone else code. So I am decided to recreate a new database to sit alongside the old one then to use triggers to transfer data between both tables. Now I have an issue with a it looping IE A trigger on each table to update the other. Once one updates it should update the other but as both tables have triggers it just will loop which will cause an issue. Is their a way to stop this from happening ? Hope this makes sense and hope you can advise.

  • Mysql - Summary Tables

    - by jwzk
Which method do you suggest and why? Creating a summary table and . . . 1) Updating the table as the action occurs in real time. 2) Running group by queries every 15 minutes to update the summary table. 3) Something else? The data must be near real time, it can't wait an hour, a day, etc.

  • Unique Key in MySql

    - by Vinodtiru
I have a table with four Columns. Col1, Col2, Col3, and Col4. Col1, Col2, Col3 is string and Col4 is a integer primary key with Auto Increment. Now my requirement is to have unique combination of Col2 and Col3. I mean to say like. Insert into table(Col1,Col2,Col3) Values('val1','val2','val3'); Insert into table(Col1,Col2,Col3) Values('val4','val2','val3'); the second statement has to throw error as the same combination of 'val2','val3' is present in the table. But i cant make it as a primary key as i need a auto increment column and for that matter the col4 has to be primary. Please let me know a approach by which i can have both in my table. Any kind of help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • effective retrieve for a voting system in PHP and MySQL

    - by Adnan
Hello, I have a system where registered users can vote up/vote down comment for a picture. Something very similar to SO's voting system. I store the votes in a table with values as such; vote_id | vote_comment_id | vote_user_id | vote_date | vote_type Now I have few a question concerned the speed and efficiency for the following; PROB: Once a user opens the picture page with comments I need, if that user has already voted UP/DOWN a comment to show it like; "you voted up" or "you voted down" next to the comment (in SO it the vote image is highlighted) MY POSSIBLE SOL: Right now when I open a picture page for each comment I loop thru, I loop thru my table of votes as well and check if a user has voted and show the status (I compare the vote_user_id with the user's session). How efficient is this? Anyone have a better approach to tackle this kind of problem?

  • PHP + SQL Server or VB.NET + MySQL

    - by Muhammad Mussnoon
Can someone suggest that out of the two mentioned (odd?) combinations, which is less odd, or in other words, is less trouble to work with + maintain. If it helps, the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application. The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB.... However, none of us have experience working with either of these pairs (you could easily call us n00bs), so we are a bit apprehensive to start. P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.

  • redirect user, then log his visit using php and mysql

    - by Bart van Heukelom
I have a PHP redirect page to track clicks on links. Basically it does: - get url from $_GET - connect to database - create row for url, or update with 1 hit if it exists - redirect browser to url using Location: header I was wondering if it's possible to send the redirect to the client first, so it can get on with it's job, and then log the click. Would simply switching things around work?

  • mysql: how to set max_allowed_packet for shared hosting?

    - by Sadi
Hello, I need to set (increase) max_allowed_packet. But the problem is I am using a shared hosting. So, I can not access the .ini or .cnf file. Also I can not use the SET command. How can I am able to set a value (actually increase) for the max_allowed_packet, without asking the hosting support. I have no SSH access there. EDIT: I am trying to use VB 4.0.3. In there the attachment size is limited by it. So, I do not think splitting the file can be an option in this case. Thank you Sadi

  • MySQL problem: How to get desired rows.

    - by Joonas Köppä
I have been trying to solve this problem for 2 hours now but I cant understand the solutions others have given people with a similar problem. Ive seen some answers but can't apply it to my own needs. I have a table of users and their times in different sports events. I need to make a scoretable that shows the user with the best time, second best etc. The table before sorting and retrieving looks as follows: | Name | Time | Date | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Jack | 03:07:13 | 2010-12-01 | | Peter | 05:03:12 | 2010-12-03 | | Jack | 03:53:19 | 2010-12-04 | | Simon | 03:22:59 | 2010-12-02 | | Simon | 04:01:11 | 2010-12-09 | | Peter | 03:19:17 | 2010-12-06 | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Name | Time | Date | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Jack | 03:07:13 | 2010-12-01 | | Peter | 03:19:17 | 2010-12-06 | | Simon | 03:22:59 | 2010-12-02 | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' I know answers to this problem lie in another question asked on this very site: CLICK HERE I just have no idea how to apply it to fullfill my needs. Help is highly appreciated. Thank you -Joonas

  • Collaborative filtering in MySQL ?

    - by user281434
Hi I'm trying to develop a site that recommends items(fx. books) to users based on their preferences. So far, I've read O'Reilly's "Collective Intelligence" and numerous other online articles. They all, however, seem to deal with single instances of recommendation, for example if you like book A then you might like book B. What I'm trying to do is to create a set of 'preference-nodes' for each user on my site. Let's say a user likes book A,B and C. Then, when they add book D, I don't want the system to recommend other books based solely other users experience with book D. I wan't the system to look up similar 'preference-nodes' and recommend books based on that. Here's an example of 4 nodes: User1: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C' User2: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C'->'book D' user3: 'book X'->'book Y'->'book C'->'book Z' user4: 'book W'->'book Q'->'book C'->'book Z' So a recommendation system, as described in the material I've read, would recommend book Z to User 1, because there are two people who recommends Z in conjuction with liking C (ie. Z weighs more than D), even though a user with a similar 'preference-node', User2, would be more qualified to recommend book D because he has a more similar interest-pattern. So does any of you have any experience with this sort of thing? Is there some things I should try to read or does there exist any open source systems for this? Thanks for your time! Small edit: I think last.fm's algorithm is doing exactly what I my system to do. Using the preference-trees of people to recommmend music more personally to people. Instead of just saying "you might like B because you liked A"

  • MySQL & PHP - Creating Multiple Parent Child Relations

    - by Ashok
Hi, I'm trying to build a navigation system using categories table with hierarchies. Normally, the table would be defined as follows: id (int) - Primary key name (varchar) - Name of the Category parentid (int) - Parent ID of this Category referenced to same table (Self Join) But the catch is that I require that a category can be child to multiple parent categories.. Just like a Has and Belongs to Many (HABTM) relation. I know that if there are two tables, categories & items, we use a join table categories_items to list the HABTM relations. But here i'm not having two tables but only table but should somehow show HABTM relations to itself. Is this be possible using a single table? If yes, How? If not possible, what rules (table naming, fields) should I follow while creating the additional join table? I'm trying to achieve this using CakePHP, If someone can provide CakePHP solution for this problem, that would be awesome. Even if that's not possible, any solution about creating join table is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

  • Special characters in PHP / MySQL

    - by Jonathan
Hi, I have in the database words that include special character (in Spanish mostly, like tildes). In the database everything is saved and shown correctly with PHPmyAdmin, but when I get the data (using PHP) and display it in a browser, I get a weird character, like a "?" with a square... I need a general fix so I don't need to escape each character every time, and also I would be able to insert special Spanish characters from a PHP form into the database... The HTML is correct: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> All tables and databas are set to utf8_spanish The character I get: ? Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

  • mySQL - Separate Lastname,Firstname and CompanyName entries from a single column

    - by Decalmo
I've got a column in a database which contains company names, and customer names all in one field... what I'd like to do is keep the CompanyName column completely intact, but wherever there is a comma in the CompanyName I'd like to take that information and populate it into a FirstName and LastName field. So that basically... Before: CompanyName: Big Company Inc Smith, John Sue, Maggie After: CompanyName: Big Company Inc Smith, John Sue, Maggie LastName: Smith Sue FirstName: John Maggie This one is pretty dang tricky for me... Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Mysql issue with decimal

    - by azz0r
    Hello, I have two fields - amount (decimal (11, 2)) - gift_amount (decimal (11, 2)) When I do an update on either for a value equal to or below 999.99, it saves correctly. However, if I go over that, then it drops the value right back to down 1 - 10. Is this a known issue or am I going wrong using decimal? Heres some PHP code of what I'm doing just to make it clearer (although I'm 100% its not the PHP's fault. if ($total_balance >= $cost) { if ($this->user->balance->gift_amount > 0) { $total_to_be_paid = number_format($cost, 2) - number_format($this->user->balance->gift_amount, 2);//figure out how much is left after the gift total $this->user->balance->gift_amount -= number_format($cost, 2); //deduct from the gift balance $this->user->balance->gift_amount = (number_format($this->user->balance->gift_amount, 2) < 0) ? number_format(00.00, 2) : number_format($this->user->balance->gift_amount, 2); //if the gift balance went below 0, lets set it to 0 if ($total_to_be_paid > 0) { $this->user->balance->amount = number_format($this->user->balance->amount, 2) - number_format($total_to_be_paid, 2); } } else { $this->user->balance->amount = number_format($this->user->balance->amount, 2) - number_format($cost, 2); } if ($object = Model_ClipBought::create(array('clip_id' => $clip->id, 'user_id' => $this->user->id, 'currency_name' => $user_currency, 'cost' => $cost, 'downloads' => $clip->downloads, 'expires' => time() + ($clip->expires * 86400)))) { $this->user->balance->save(); $download = new Model_Download(ROOT_PATH."/public/files/Clip/$clip->file_url"); $download->execute(); } else { throw new exception('We could not finish the purchase, this has been reported, sorry for the inconvenience.'); } } else { throw new exception('You dont have enough money in your account todo this'); } exit; }
