  • using paperclip with secure and non-secure files

    - by crankharder
First off, we have this namespaced/sti'd structure for our different types of 'Media' Media< Ar::Base Media::Local < Media Media::Local::Image < Media::Local Media::Local::Csv < Media::Local etc... etc.. This is excellent since a user can have many media, and how we display each piece of media is based on the class name and a co-responding partial. But what if we have some Csv's that need to be secure? That is, they can't reside inside of public. I really hate the idea of branching Media again and doing something like this: Media::Secure < Media Media::Secure::Image < Media::Secure Media::NotSecure < Media Media::NotSecure::Image < Media::NotSecure ...where Secure and NotSecure would have different params passed to has_attached_file. Now there are two classes that represent Image and it makes my view/helper system that much more complicated -- not to mention it feels very obtuse. What I would really like to do is be able to change where certain Paperclip::Attachment objects get saved before they get saved (e.g. anything uploaded through foo_secure_action) -- but I can't seem to make this work. Paperclip::Attachment has an @options hash with :path and :url, but changing those before it is saved doesn't have an effect on where it actually gets set. Even if this is possible, I'm not sure if it would have further consequences... I'm open to alternative ideas for structuring this data, but for the moment I like the idea of using STI for this situation.

  • Customizing Number of Page Links Rendered With will_paginate?

    - by Moe
    I'm using the will_paginate gem for my Rails project and it's working beautifully. Unfortunately, on paginated result sets with a larger number of pages, the link section is too wide. Instead of: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 … 18 19 Next » I would like to show: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 … 18 19 Next » How can I reduce the number of page links being rendered? I looked at the will_paginate docs on github but couldn't find a solution. Thanks! Moe

  • dz's Open Flash Chart 2 disabling animation problem (Rails)

    - by greg
How to disable the startup animation in OFC2? Since I started using the dz build, the on-show animation is on by default, which sucks quite a lot. Neither of these work: graph.animate=false graph.on_show=false Also, dz's build implements the tooltip hover support poorly - the tooltip continues to hover even when the cursor is on another flash object. Has anyone overcome these problems?

  • jqmodal IE (7 or 8) flashes black before modal loaded

    - by brad
This is killing me. In both IE7 and 8, using jqModal, the screen flashes black before the modal content is loaded. I've set up a test app to show you what's happening. I've taken jqModal EXACTLY from the site, no changes whatsoever, no external css that could be affecting my app. It works perfectly in every other browser (including IE6). http://jqmtest.heroku.com/ So, first two links are ajax calls, second is straight up inline HTML. (I originally thought it was the ajax that was affecting it, but that doesn't seem to be the case, I then thought it was slow loading ajax, hence to two differen ajax links) What's crazy is that the jqmodal site itself works perfectly in IE, no flashing of black, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong. Code is straight forward html: <body> <div id="ajaxModal" class="jqmWindow"></div> <div id="inlineModal" class="jqmWindow"> <div style="height:300px;position:relative;"> <p>Here's some inline content</p> <a href="#" onclick='$("#inlineModal").jqmHide();return false;' style="position:absolute;bottom:10px;right:10px">Close</a> </div> </div> <div style="width:600px;height:400px;margin:auto;background:#eee;"> <p><a href="/ajax/short" class="jqModal">Short loading modal</a></p> <br /> <p><a href="/ajax/long" class="jqModal">Longer loading modal</a></p> <br /> <p><a href="#" class="jqInline">inline modal</a></p> </div> </body> Javascript: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ $("#ajaxModal").jqm({ajax:'@href', modal:true}); $("#inlineModal").jqm({modal:true, trigger:'.jqInline'}); }); </script> CSS is exactly the same as the one downloaded from jqModal's site so I'll omit it, but you can see it on my app Has anyone experienced this? I don't get how his works and mine doesn't.

  • How to store UTC time values in Mongo with Mongoid?

    - by Jerry Cheung
The behavior I'm observing with the Mongoid adapter is that it'll save 'time' fields with the current system timezone into the database. Note that it's the system time and not Rail's environment's Time.zone. If I change the system timezone, then subsequent saves will pick up the current system timezone. # system currently at UTC -7 @record.time_attribute = Time.now.utc @record.save # in mongo, the value is "time_attribute" : "Mon May 17 2010 12:00:00 GMT-0700 (QYZST)" @record.reload.time_attribute.utc? # false

  • How do I stub a view in rspec-2

    - by Trey Bean
I'm in the process of upgrading an app to Rails 3/Rspec 2. I see that stubbing a view helper method has changed in Rspec 2. It looks like instead of doing template.stub!, we're now supposed to do view.stub!, but I can't seem to get this to work on beta 10. I get an "undefined local variable or method `view' for # < RSpec::Core::ExampleGroup::Nested_1::Nested_1::Nested_1:0x106785fd0" error. I see that in this commit David removed the view method, but I can't figure out what it was replaced with. Something in ActionView::TestCase::Behavior? I'm on rails 3.0.0.beta3. Any idea what I'm missing?

  • config file in schedule.rb with Rails Whenever gem?

Thanks!

  • Remove/squash entries in a vertical hash

    - by Forkrul Assail
I have a grid that represents an X, Y matrix, stored as a hash here. Some points on the X Y matrix may have values (as type string), and some may not. Let's say [17,3] = Raphael does not have an element in front of if (let's say - no [16,3] exists) then [17,3] should become [16,3] etc. So basically all empty items will be popped off the vertical (row) structure of the hash. Are there functions I should have a look at or is there an easy squash-like method that would just remove blanks and adjust and move other items? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • RMagic Error in rails, with AM Charts

    - by Elliot
Hi Everyone, I'm using AMCharts and rails. AMCharts uses the Image Magic lib to export an image of the chart. In rails this is done with the gem, RMagic. In a controller this is implemented with the following controller method: def export width = params[:width].to_i height = params[:height].to_i data = {} img = Magick::Image.new(width, height) height.times do |y| row = params["r#{y}"].split(',') row.size.times do |r| pixel = row[r].to_s.split(':') pixel[0] = pixel[0].to_s.rjust(6, '0') if pixel.size == 2 pixel[1].to_i.times do (data[y] ||= []) << pixel[0] end else (data[y] ||= []) << pixel[0] end end width.times do |x| img.pixel_color(x, y, "##{data[y][x]}") end end img.format = "PNG" send_data(img.to_blob , :disposition => 'inline', :type => 'image/png', :filename => "chart.png?#{rand(99999999).to_i}") end When the controller is accessed however, I receive this error in the page: The change you wanted was rejected. • HTML encode UTF-8 string gets mangled into latin1

    - by Ken Mayer
I'm parsing my nginx logs, and I want to discover some details from the HTTP_REFERER string, for example, the query string used to find the web site. One user typed in "México" which gets encoded in the log as "query=M%E9xico". Passing this through Rack::Utils.parse_query('query=M%E9xico') you get a hash, {"query" = "M?xico"} When you to stuff "M?exico" into Postgres (but not the more forgiving SQLite), it pukes because the string isn't proper UTF-8. Looking at http://rack.rubyforge.org/doc/Rack/Utils.html#M000324, unescape is packing a hex string. How can I convert the string back to UTF-8, or can I get parse_query to return UTF-8 in the first place.

  • Mongomapper - bootstrapping techniques

    - by egarcia
I've just begun creating a rails application using mongomapper for my models. I'm wondering what solution should I use for bootstrapping my app with it. All my previous experience is with ActiveRecord & PostgreSQL, in which I have used several gems for bootstrapping. The one I liked the most was bootstrapper (+ factorygirl + faker). Does anyone know whether these work ok with mongomapper? Can anyone suggest better alternatives? Is there anything obvious I need to know when bootstrapping mongodb?

  • Open Source Web Frameworks : Security

    - by trappedIntoCode
How secure are popular open source web frameworks? I am particularly interested in popular frameworks like Rails and DJango. If I am building a site which is going to do heavy e-commerce, is it Ok to use frameworks like DJango and Satchmo? Is security compromised because their open architecture ? I know being OS does not mean being down right open to hackers, Linux uses superb authentication mechanism, but web is a different game. What can be done in this regard? UPDATE: Thanks for answers guys. I understand that I will have to find a suitable hosting service for a secure e-commerce application and that additional layers of security will be needed. I understand that Django and Rails have been designed keeping security aspects in mind, the most common form attacks like XSS, Injections etc. (Django book has a ch on Security) I was expecting comments from security Gurus. If you are a security Guru, would you recommend an important site, which is likely going to be popular, to be built on DJango or Rails?

  • Merge items in nanoc

I have been trying to use nanoc for generating a static website. I need to organize a complex arrangement pages I want to keep my content DRY. How does the concept of includes or merges work within the nanoc system? I have read the docs but I can't seem to find what I want. For example: how can I take two partial content items and merge them together into a new content item. In staticmatic you can do some like the following inside your page. = partial('partials/shared/navigation') How would a similar convention work within nanoc?

  • Change find method in database search so that it isn't case sensitive in Rails app

    - by Ryan
Hello, I am learning Rails and have created a work-in-progress app that does one-word searches on a database of shortcut keys for various programs (http://keyboardcuts.heroku.com/shortcuts/home). The search method in the Shortcut model is the following: def self.search(search) search_condition = "%" + search + "%" find(:all, :conditions => ['action LIKE ? OR application LIKE ?', search_condition, search_condition]) end ...where 'action' and 'application' are columns in a SQLite table. (source: https://we.riseup.net/rails/simple-search-tutorial) For some reason, the search seems to be case sensitive (you can see this by searching 'Paste' vs. 'paste'). Can anyone help me figure out why and what I can do to make it not case sensitive? If not, can you at least point me in the right direction? Database creation: I first copied shortcuts from various website into Excel and saved it as a CSV. Then I migrated the database and filled it with the data using db:seed and a small script I wrote (I viewed the database and it looked fine). To get the SQLite database to the server, I used Taps as outline by the Heroku website (http://blog.heroku.com/archives/2009/3/18/push_and_pull_databases_to_and_from_heroku/). I am using Ubuntu. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks in advance for you help, very much appreciated! Ryan

  • Rails: radio button selection for nested forms objects

    - by satynos
I have the following form for photo_album which uses the nested forms feature of the Rails in saving the photos while updating the photo_album. And having trouble with the selection of radio button value. I want only one of the photos be able to select as the album cover, but due to the way rails produces form element ids and names, I am able to select all of the photos as album covers. Is there any workaround? <% form_for @photo_album do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <% @photo_album.photos.each do |photo| %> <% f.fields_for :photos, photo do |photo_fields| %> <p> <%= image_tag url_for_image_column(photo, "data", :thumb) %> </p> <p> <%= photo_fields.label :title %> <%= photo_fields.text_field :title %> </p> <p> <%= photo_fields.label :body %> <%= photo_fields.text_area :body %> </p> <p> <%= photo_fields.radio_button :cover, "1" %> <%= photo_fields.label :cover, 'Album Cover', :class => 'option' %> <%= photo_fields.check_box :_delete %> <%= photo_fields.label :_delete, 'Delete', :class => 'option' %> </p> <% end %> <% end %> <p> <%= f.submit @photo_album.new_record? ? In the documentation concerning Fixtures (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/Fixtures.html) they provide the following example of using label references for associations: ### in pirates.yml reginald: name: Reginald the Pirate monkey: george ### in monkeys.yml george: name: George the Monkey pirate: reginald So following their lead, I have a User model that has_one :profile, a Profile model that belongs_to :user, and tried to set up fixtures per their example: ### in users.yml reginald: id: 1 login: reginald ### in profiles.yml reginalds_profile: id: 1 name: Reginald the Pirate user: reginald (Note: since my association is one-way, the User fixture doesn't have a "profile: reginalds_profile" association--putting it in causes an error because the SQL table has no profile_id attribute.) The problem is, in my unit tests everything seems to load correctly, but users(:reginald).profile is always nil. What am I missing?

  • Authlogic with nested attributes and polymorphic associations

    - by ferparra
Hi all! I'm having trouble with the following code: User < AR acts_as_authentic belongs_to :owner, :polymorphic => true end Worker < AR has_one :user, :as => :owner accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Employer < AR has_one :user, :as => :owner accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end I'd like to create registration forms based on user types, and to include authentication fields such as username and password. I currently do this: UserRegistrationController < AC #i.e. a new Employer def new @employer = Employer.new @employer.build_user end ... end I then include User fields with fields_for. All views render fine, but here's the catch: I cannot build a User, it tells me :password is a wrong method, so I guess the authentication logic was bypassed. What should I do? Am I doing it wrong altogether? Should I drop polymorphic associations in favor of Single Table Inheritance? Whatever I do, I have to make sure it plays nicely with Authlogic.
