• mongrel not working - Ruby on Rails

  I have deployed my rails app to a live server(linux) and I have successfully installed the the mongrel gems, and I can successfully start the server for my app but when i try to acceess the website on the server i get the error The server at 196.xx.xxx.xx is taking too long to respond. Is there anything i need to do to be able to access my app on the browser? • Oh no, Not another Undefined Reference Question!

  Unfortunately yes. I have my shared library compiled, the linker doesn't complain about not finding it but still I get undefined reference error. Thinking that I might be doing something wrong I did a little research and found this nice, simple walkthrough: http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/cpp/gcc/create_lib.html which I've followed to the letter but still I get: $ gcc -Wall main.c -o dynamically_linked -L.\ -lmean /tmp/ccZjkkkl.o: In function `main': main.c:(.text+0x42): undefined reference to `mean' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status This is pretty simple stuff so what's going wrong?!?!? Can anyone suggest something in my set up that might need checking/tweeking? GCC 4.3.2 Fedora 10 64-bit

  I'm working now on a multi-tier project which has layers as following : DAL BLL GUI Layer and Shared DTOs between BLL and GUI layers. I'm facing a problem in mapping the Objects from DAO To DTO, No problem in the simple objects. • jboss web services to tranfer files

  I dont have any experience for web services. please give me some suggestion about the task below. the task is: users will send a txt file (size should less than 20K ) from a .NET application, I need to write a web services which runs by jboss 5.x to read this file and edit this file and send the file back to .NET UI to display the edited version. question is that if the txt file is just test string or binary string, are there any restriction of the string length? if it's binary string, can I need to use BinaryReader class to read it? or not need special reader to read it? (this could be a dumn question :P) what if the .NET application can save the file on either the .NET application server or some shared server location, send a download URL to web serivces, can web services download it and read it? JBoss will be run on Linux sever. After edit the file, how do I send it back? Thanks for your help!

• How to identify deadlock conditions in a third-party application?

  I am using a third-party application to handle batch CD audio extraction via multiple FireWire attached devices, but the application frequently (though non-deterministically) hangs during the extraction. I suspect that the multithreaded application is deadlocking over some shared resource. The developer, however, suspects the problem lies elsewhere but is not addressing the problem at this time. I would like to be able to do some legwork on my end to a) prove the condition exists and b) ideally point him in the right direction. The problems: while I used to be a programmer, it's been awhile and I need to shake off the dust (last work I did was back in '99 and it was under Solaris, while the application runs under XP). Rather than there being a dearth of information online, there's almost too much to digest. Are there any suggested guides or tutorials that might help me get back up to speed sufficient enough to help identify and/or diagnose the deadlock, or are there tools or approaches that I should study up on to aid me in my task? • Bitmap manipulation as a referenced object

  I am working with a Bitmap object that I add annotations or copyright material to the image and then return the modified bitmap. My problem is that the Bitmap won't hold the changes made to it as it moves along the chain. I am treating it as a reference type and would assume that as it gets passed to each class it would carry the changes made to it. I have verified that the code inside of the MarkImage() classes does function, but which ever one gets called last is the one that has changes.   Hi, I need to write some data in several database. I choose sqlapi.com I have made it for mysql and mssql. Now I have Problem with Oracle database. I have installed server and client on Ubuntu. In browser it works, but sqlapi says: libnnz10.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory DBMS API Library 'libclntsh.so' loading fails This library is a part of DBMS client installation, not SQLAPI++ Make sure DBMS client is installed and this required library is available for dynamic loading Linux/Unix: 1) The directories in the user's LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable 2) The list of libraries cached in /etc/ld.so.cache 3) /usr/lib, followed by /lib There are both of these files depp inside /usr/lib. I have tried a lot of ways to say eclipse path to this folder, but nothing works. Thanks for help.

  I have developed a web service which accepts the login credentials from the XML message passed to it. I have concerns over this method as the developer who consumes the service can easily share the login credentials and my service can be called from some other application that uses the same credentials. Is there any way that I can issue a 'license' to some specific applications? So that, even if credentials are shared among the consuming apps, only authorized ones can successfully consume the service. P.S: I thought about implementing IP restrictions but that doesn't serve the purpose as we may have different applications installed on a same server (we do have such a scenario implemented).

  How do I sign an APK with more than one certificate, so that I can do this when I publish to the Android Market: Version 1.0 = Signed with Certificate A Version 2.0 = Signed with Certificate A & B Version 3.0 = Signed with Certificate B The Android Market does give me some hope but I am not sure what to make of it, when I upload with a different sign certificate it gives me this message: "The apk must be signed with at least one certificate in common with the previous version." Motive: I have published an app on the market using the Android Signing Tool as part of MotoDev Studio for android. The problem is that it handles the keys itself and there is no way (documented) to get them. I want to change it to use a keystore and certificate that I have more control of and can use even if I don't use MotoDev Studio anymore. Also it seems that MotoDev Studio will lock you out of new features such as shared libraries.

• Using CMake with Eclipse CDT, quickly switch targets?

  I'm using the CDT4 - MinGW Makefiles generator. Project-Build All successfully builds the target (a shared library) but it seems I would have to (A) open a project settings page and type in the target, hoping it's spelled right*, or (B) run make from a terminal to "build" the install and package targets. I noticed a promising Project-Make Target entry, but the Create... and Build... sub-entries are greyed-out. • MVC Display Template for Generic Type

  I am trying to use the model ListModel as a generic list model. I would like to enter on the page @Html.DisplayForModel() However the MVC is not correctly finding the templated file "ListModel.cshtml". It must work differently for generic models. What should I name the templated file in order for it to correctly be located? public class ListModel<T> { public IEnumerable<T> Models {get;set;} public string NextPage {get;set;} } I would expect it to look for "Shared/DisplayTemplates/ListModel.ascx" but it doesn't. Does anyone know?

• Best place/area to store file for Trail period

  I need to have a trial period (7 days) in my application. From this I came to know that you can do that by keeping permanent file, database or shared preference. Where do I keep that file so that the user isn't able to see/delete it. If I put that logic in Sharedpreference or a file with a path "data/data/packagename", when the application is uninstalled then all history will be lost. Any other workaround/ideas? Note: there is no server, application works locally with no Internet.

• Deadlock Problem because of an Update Lock.

  We have a deadlock issue we're trying to track down. I have an deadlock graph (xdl) generated from Profiler. It shows the losing SQL statement as a simple Select statement, not an Update, Delete or Insert statement. The graph shows the losing Select statement as requesting a Shared lock on a resource **but also owning an Update lock on a resource**. This is what is baffling me. Why would a Select statement that is not part of an Insert, Update or Delete ever hold an Update lock on a resource? I should add that the Update lock it owns is on the table being selected against by the losing Select statement.

  Hi, I'm working on a quite big magento: it will have 50 different shops (1 magento install, 1 admin to rule them all) for start, this number is expected to raise in the future, and a catalog of more than 1k products. This catalog will be shared by all shops. I'm concerned about the server requirements I need for this to run smoothly. So far this is what I've found to get the most of it: Caching: using magento's cache with APC, MySQL's querys Images sprite in the theme use FastCGI instead of mod_php database clustering: I don't think it will be necesary for 1k products, what do you think? using Zend Server Are there other thing I can do in order to improve magento's performance?   My forms are losing session variables on shared hosting very quickly (webhost4life), and I think I want to replace them with cookies. Is this necessary? Do the Request cookies copy to the Response automatically? I'm setting no properties on the cookies and create them this way: Response.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"] = someGuid.ToString(); The intention is that these are temporary header cookies, not persisted on the client any longer than the browser session. I ask this since I don't often write websites.

• Good way to send a large file over a network in C#?

  I am trying to build an application that can request files from a service running on another machine in the network. These files can be fairly large (500mb + at times). I was looking into sending it via TCP but I'm worried that it may require that the entire file be stored in memory. There will probably only be one client. Copying to a shared directory isn't acceptable either. The only communication required is for the client to say "gimme xyz" and the server to send it (and whatever it takes to ensure this happens correctly). Any suggestions?

• Storing PDFs in MS Access Database using Forms

  I need to store PDF files in an Access database on a shared drive using a form. I figured out how to do this in tables (using the OLE Object field, then just drag-and-drop) but I would like to do this on a Form that has a Save button. Clicking the save button would store the file (not just a link) in the database. Any ideas on how to do this? EDIT: I am using Access 2003, and the DB will be stored on a share drive, so I'm not sure linking to the files will solve the problem.

  My idea is to avoid magic string keys in my Asp.Net MVC application. To do so, I want to create string constant keys to be shared in the application. For example, I can write TempData[MyClass.Message] or TempData[MyEnum.Message.ToString()] instead of TempData["Message"]. public class MyClass { public const string Message = "Message"; } and public enum MyEnum { Message, Others } My questions are: Which is the better way to avoid magic string keys? • Staticly linked libraries not running code inside to setup static variables.

  In a c++ project I am working on, I have a simple c++ file that needs to run some code at the beginning of the progam execution. This file is linked into a static library, which is then linked into the main program. I have similar code in other files running fine, that looks something like: bool ____nonexistant_value = executeAction(); However, it does not work inside this file unless I make use of a function implemented in this file. It does work if the library is compilied as a shared library. I'd prefer to link this statically as the library is only a convience as the file is in a different directory.

• WeakHashMap iteration and garbage collection

  I am using a WeaekHashMap to implement a Cache. I am wondering if I am iterating over the keys of this map, and at the same time garbage collector is actively removing keys from this map, would I receive a ConcurrentModificationException ? I do not think so, because as far as I understand, concurrentmodificationexception happens because of bugs in the application code where the developer forgot to understand that the same map is shared/used by other threads and in this case, it should not happen. But wondering how would JVM handle this when WeakHashMap is not synchronized ?
