• Wordpress plugin for enhanced WYSIWYG image resizing?

  Really, really trying to find a plugin that gives adds functionality to the image-resize functions in Wordpress's WYSIWYG editor. Something where the use of 'Gallery' is not mandatory – just an upload straight from the post editor. In a post, when an image is linked to from another site, there are less options – unlike when an image is uploaded. • You can resize, but it's 100%, 110%, 120%, 130% ....Instead of thumbnail, large, medium, etc, when you upload. •These dimension rarely match the dimensions needed. I know you can type in the W x H in the advanced tab, but my quest to find a better solution is really for the clients using the site. If anyone knows a solution / plugin / modification for this, I'd love to hear it!!

• A Closable jQuery Plug-in

  In my client side development I deal a lot with content that pops over the main page. Be it data entry ‘windows’ or dialogs or simple pop up notes. In most cases this behavior goes with draggable windows, but sometimes it’s also useful to have closable behavior on static page content that the user can choose to hide or otherwise make invisible or fade out. The close image or close box is provided typically by way of a CssClass - .closebox by default – which supplies the image as part of the CSS styling. I use this plug-in mostly on pop up windows that can be closed, but it’s also quite handy for remove/delete behavior in list displays like this: you can find this sample here to look to play along: http://www.west-wind.com/WestwindWebToolkit/Samples/Ajax/AmazonBooks/BooksAdmin.aspx For closable windows it’s nice to have something reusable because in my client framework there are lots of different kinds of windows that can be created: Draggables, Modal Dialogs, HoverPanels etc. and they all use the client .closable plug-in to provide the closable operation in the same way with a few options. Plug-ins are great for this sort of thing because they can also be aggregated and so different components can pick and choose the behavior they want. The window here is a draggable, that’s closable and has shadow behavior and the server control can simply generate the appropriate plug-ins to apply to the main <div> tag: $().ready(function() { $('#ctl00_MainContent_panEditBook') .closable({ handle: $('#divEditBook_Header') }) .draggable({ dragDelay: 100, handle: '#divEditBook_Header' }) .shadow({ opacity: 0.25, offset: 6 }); }) The window is using the default .closebox style and has its handle set to the header bar (Book Information). The window is just closable to go away so no event handler is applied. Actually I cheated – the actual page’s .closable is a bit more ugly in the sample as it uses an image from a resources file: .closable({ imageUrl: '/WestWindWebToolkit/Samples/WebResource.axd?d=TooLongAndNastyToPrint', handle: $('#divEditBook_Header')}) so you can see how to apply a custom image, which in this case is generated by the server control wrapping the client DragPanel. More interesting maybe is to apply the .closable behavior to list scenarios. For example, each of the individual items in the list display also are .closable using this plug-in. Rather than having to define each item with Html for an image, event handler and link, when the client template is rendered the closable behavior is attached to the list. Ideally though (and these posts make me realize this often a little late) I probably should set up a custom cssClass to handle the rendering – maybe a CSS class called .removebox that only changes the image from the default box image. This example also hooks up an event handler that is fired in response to the close. In the list I need to know when the remove button is clicked so I can fire of a service call to the server to actually remove the item from the database. The handler code can also return false; to indicate that the window should not be closed optionally. Returning true will close the window. You can find more information about the .closable class behavior and options here: .closable Documentation Plug-ins make Server Control JavaScript much easier I find this plug-in immensely useful especial as part of server control code, because it simplifies the code that has to be generated server side tremendously. Compared to the code I used to have in pre-jQuery versions of my JavaScript toolkit this is a walk in the park. In those days there was a bunch of JS generation which was ugly to say the least. I know a lot of folks frown on using server controls, especially the UI is client centric as the example is. However, I do feel that server controls can greatly simplify the process of getting the right behavior attached more easily and with the help of IntelliSense. Often the script markup is easier is especially if you are dealing with complex, multiple plug-in associations that often express more easily with property values on a control. Regardless of whether server controls are your thing or not this plug-in can be useful in many scenarios. Even in simple client-only scenarios using a plug-in with a few simple parameters is nicer and more consistent than creating the HTML markup over and over again. I hope some of you find this even a small bit as useful as I have. • Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. Embedded javascript runs fine. Thanks for your ideas!   My <style> for thumbnails currently looks like this: <style type="text/css"> img.TN { width: 100%; margin-bottom: 5.294%; cursor: pointer; } </style> This is annoying, because I have to apply this style to every single thumbnail image individually, when there could be any number of them on the screen at any given time. All of the thumbnails are inside a single <div> that groups them together, and I'd like to apply a single style to the <div> that will push the attributes I need down to all of the the <img> elements nested inside, regardless how many thumbnails there are. I'm using ASP.NET 2.0, and CSS 2.0 Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

I attempted to use something like this: $("a").click(function() { location.reload(); }); However, this will reload the page without following the link (something like a href="#div02"). How do I get it to both follow the link and reload the page?

• Display content in folder like Wordpress displays Themes

  Hi, I’ve throughout the last couple of years downloaded a lot of templates for websites and these are now starting to become chaotic in the different folders so I’m starting to get a overview of the different templates. Regarding to this I was thinking about the way that WordPress displays the different themes installed in the themes folder. It provides a small overview (thumbnail) of the theme and a possibility to preview the theme. Of cause, I don’t need or want such a advanced system as Wordpress but I’m attractive to the idea of displaying my templates in the same kind of manner and without using a Database. I’ve played around with different directory management scripts and tools for PHP but the best result I’ve got so fare is just to display the different content in the different folders but not create a preview which in each preview it will use the webpage itself and it’s stylesheets, images, etc. Does anyone have an idea how to create such a script or have a link to a already existing script. • Cropping an image, saving output to a new file and get crop coordinates

  I'm interfacing with a service that allows you to upload an image, and also upload coordinates of a thumbnail of that image. I'm thinking that (if there isn't some sort of prefab Activity specifically for this) that I can use Android's crop utility. The only problem is that I can't overwrite the original file, the crop window needs to have a custom message (instead of "crop image"), and I'll need the coordinates of the crop. Is this possible? Is there another way to do this without writing my own Activity?

• How can I unbind JQZOOM in my JQuery Script?

  Hello, I have this script at the moment, which changes an image when a thumbnail has been changed. I then want JQZOOM to be added to that new image. However, if I put it inside the Onclick event, it gets slower and slower the more times you click on it... I guess because its running multiple instances. Is there anyway to unbind the JQZOOM from something then rebind it to something else? • Firefox Upload Form Issue

  Ive created an uplaod script in php that takes a file, resizes it, and creates a cropped square thumbnail. The script itself seems to work fine. However, when i tried to upload an image through firefox, on clicking the submit button the browser shows the loading animation, but it never calls the script, it just stays on the current page. If dont upload an image, then the script can be found and is run. I tried in safari, and i dont get the same problem, i can upload an image from the form, it will process it and take me the correct page. Ive tired just calling a basic script from the form, it just prints out the $_POST and $_FILES, and i get the same result, if an image is present, it wont get to the script, if no image is present, it runs fine. Im just wondering if anyone has any idea whats going on?

• Android - Using Camera Intent but not updating correctly?

  Hello - I am using an intent to capture a picture: Intent i = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); i.putExtra(android.provider.MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "test.jpg"))); startActivityForResult(i, 2); And then once taken I do the following: sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED, Uri.parse("file://" + Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()))); launchGallery(); While the above seems to work the first time without issue, whenever I run through a second time (so test.jpg already exists) the image actually saves correctly to /sdcard/ but I am finding that the thumbnail does not update and when the gallery loads it shows the previous test.jpg image! I was under the impression that sendBroadcast should update the thumbnails, but it doesn't appear to be.. Is there some other way to go about this and ensure when I call my launchGallery(); method the most recent image I just took appears? Thanks!

  I'm trying to create my first custom Google Gadget to be used privately in my company's Google Sites intranet. Ideally I'd like to just show a thumbnail that the user can click that will open a modal window with the full video. This requires my including a couple of small JS libraries in my widget. For my widget I created this XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Module> <ModulePrefs title="Video Demos" /> <Content view="url" href="http://www.website.com/_gadgets/video.php"> </Content> </Module> The "video.php" page has simple HTML on it and includes two JS files for the modal window using but doesn't work. Are you not able to include external scripts like this? If not, what are my options here?

  I have a database table full of time points and experimental values at those time points. I need to retrieve the values for an experiment and create a thumbnail image showing an XY plot of its data. Because the actual data set for each experiment is potentially 100,000 data points and my image is only 100 pixels wide, I want to sample the data before creating the image. • Embedding Youtube Videos on user's wall with the Javascript API

  I'm attempting to embed a Youtube video on a user's wall using the Javascript API. I ran a debugger and all the variables are being properly set in the data variable. This worked fine for about 2 days, and then we pushed the site live. We set up a new AppID in Facebook but now all the videos are just thumbnails instead of being embedded in the user's wall. I thought maybe this is a problem with the live site but now the dev site is broken too. What's the best way to get this to work consistently?

• jQuery Sortable + Droppable z-index problem

  I am having a probelm with the z-index of my sortable object not being above my droppable. If you visit http://clareshilland.unknowndomain.co.uk/. Press Ctrl + L to bring up the login screen. Enter the username clare and the password shilland. It will then load in the admin bar and if you click manage gallery. A pop down thumbnail view will appear with all the photos from that gallery. The issue is that when you drag the 'polaroids' from the grid to the delete area they are under the delete area. I tried putting the delete area inside the same div as the grid but it makes no difference, I just don't know what to do at this point so any help would be a massive help!

• Meet the New Windows Azure

  Today we are releasing a major set of improvements to Windows Azure.  Below is a short-summary of just a few of them: New Admin Portal and Command Line Tools Today’s release comes with a new Windows Azure portal that will enable you to manage all features and services offered on Windows Azure in a seamless, integrated way.  It is very fast and fluid, supports filtering and sorting (making it much easier to use for large deployments), works on all browsers, and offers a lot of great new features – including built-in VM, Web site, Storage, and Cloud Service monitoring support. The new portal is built on top of a REST-based management API within Windows Azure – and everything you can do through the portal can also be programmed directly against this Web API. We are also today releasing command-line tools (which like the portal call the REST Management APIs) to make it even easier to script and automate your administration tasks.  We are offering both a Powershell (for Windows) and Bash (for Mac and Linux) set of tools to download.  Like our SDKs, the code for these tools is hosted on GitHub under an Apache 2 license. Virtual Machines Windows Azure now supports the ability to deploy and run durable VMs in the cloud.  You can easily create these VMs using a new Image Gallery built-into the new Windows Azure Portal, or alternatively upload and run your own custom-built VHD images. Virtual Machines are durable (meaning anything you install within them persists across reboots) and you can use any OS with them.  Our built-in image gallery includes both Windows Server images (including the new Windows Server 2012 RC) as well as Linux images (including Ubuntu, CentOS, and SUSE distributions).  Once you create a VM instance you can easily Terminal Server or SSH into it in order to configure and customize the VM however you want (and optionally capture your own image snapshot of it to use when creating new VM instances).  This provides you with the flexibility to run pretty much any workload within Windows Azure.   The new Windows Azure Portal provides a rich set of management features for Virtual Machines – including the ability to monitor and track resource utilization within them.  Our new Virtual Machine support also enables the ability to easily attach multiple data-disks to VMs (which you can then mount and format as drives).  You can optionally enable geo-replication support on these – which will cause Windows Azure to continuously replicate your storage to a secondary data-center at least 400 miles away from your primary data-center as a backup. We use the same VHD format that is supported with Windows virtualization today (and which we’ve released as an open spec), which enables you to easily migrate existing workloads you might already have virtualized into Windows Azure.  We also make it easy to download VHDs from Windows Azure, which also provides the flexibility to easily migrate cloud-based VM workloads to an on-premise environment.  All you need to do is download the VHD file and boot it up locally, no import/export steps required. Web Sites Windows Azure now supports the ability to quickly and easily deploy ASP.NET, Node.js and PHP web-sites to a highly scalable cloud environment that allows you to start small (and for free) and then scale up as your traffic grows.  You can create a new web site in Azure and have it ready to deploy to in under 10 seconds: The new Windows Azure Portal provides built-in administration support for Web sites – including the ability to monitor and track resource utilization in real-time: You can deploy to web-sites in seconds using FTP, Git, TFS and Web Deploy.  We are also releasing tooling updates today for both Visual Studio and Web Matrix that enable developers to seamlessly deploy ASP.NET applications to this new offering.  The VS and Web Matrix publishing support includes the ability to deploy SQL databases as part of web site deployment – as well as the ability to incrementally update database schema with a later deployment. You can integrate web application publishing with source control by selecting the “Set up TFS publishing” or “Set up Git publishing” links on a web-site’s dashboard: Doing do will enable integration with our new TFS online service (which enables a full TFS workflow – including elastic build and testing support), or create a Git repository that you can reference as a remote and push deployments to.  Once you push a deployment using TFS or Git, the deployments tab will keep track of the deployments you make, and enable you to select an older (or newer) deployment and quickly redeploy your site to that snapshot of the code.  This provides a very powerful DevOps workflow experience.   Windows Azure now allows you to deploy up to 10 web-sites into a free, shared/multi-tenant hosting environment (where a site you deploy will be one of multiple sites running on a shared set of server resources).  This provides an easy way to get started on projects at no cost. You can then optionally upgrade your sites to run in a “reserved mode” that isolates them so that you are the only customer within a virtual machine: And you can elastically scale the amount of resources your sites use – allowing you to increase your reserved instance capacity as your traffic scales: Windows Azure automatically handles load balancing traffic across VM instances, and you get the same, super fast, deployment options (FTP, Git, TFS and Web Deploy) regardless of how many reserved instances you use. With Windows Azure you pay for compute capacity on a per-hour basis – which allows you to scale up and down your resources to match only what you need. Cloud Services and Distributed Caching Windows Azure also supports the ability to build cloud services that support rich multi-tier architectures, automated application management, and scale to extremely large deployments.  Previously we referred to this capability as “hosted services” – with this week’s release we are now referring to this capability as “cloud services”.  We are also enabling a bunch of new features with them. Distributed Cache One of the really cool new features being enabled with cloud services is a new distributed cache capability that enables you to use and setup a low-latency, in-memory distributed cache within your applications.  This cache is isolated for use just by your applications, and does not have any throttling limits. This cache can dynamically grow and shrink elastically (without you have to redeploy your app or make code changes), and supports the full richness of the AppFabric Cache Server API (including regions, high availability, notifications, local cache and more).  In addition to supporting the AppFabric Cache Server API, it also now supports the Memcached protocol – allowing you to point code written against Memcached at it (no code changes required). The new distributed cache can be setup to run in one of two ways: 1) Using a co-located approach.  In this option you allocate a percentage of memory in your existing web and worker roles to be used by the cache, and then the cache joins the memory into one large distributed cache.  Any data put into the cache by one role instance can be accessed by other role instances in your application – regardless of whether the cached data is stored on it or another role.  The big benefit with the “co-located” option is that it is free (you don’t have to pay anything to enable it) and it allows you to use what might have been otherwise unused memory within your application VMs. 2) Alternatively, you can add “cache worker roles” to your cloud service that are used solely for caching.  These will also be joined into one large distributed cache ring that other roles within your application can access.  You can use these roles to cache 10s or 100s of GBs of data in-memory very effectively – and the cache can be elastically increased or decreased at runtime within your application: New SDKs and Tooling Support We have updated all of the Windows Azure SDKs with today’s release to include new features and capabilities.  Our SDKs are now available for multiple languages, and all of the source in them is published under an Apache 2 license and and maintained in GitHub repositories. The .NET SDK for Azure has in particular seen a bunch of great improvements with today’s release, and now includes tooling support for both VS 2010 and the VS 2012 RC. We are also now shipping Windows, Mac and Linux SDK downloads for languages that are offered on all of these systems – allowing developers to develop Windows Azure applications using any development operating system. Much, Much More The above is just a short list of some of the improvements that are shipping in either preview or final form today – there is a LOT more in today’s release.  These include new Virtual Private Networking capabilities, new Service Bus runtime and tooling support, the public preview of the new Azure Media Services, new Data Centers, significantly upgraded network and storage hardware, SQL Reporting Services, new Identity features, support within 40+ new countries and territories, and much, much more.
