• Variables in static library are never initialized. Why?

  I have a bunch of variables that should be initialized then my game launches, but must of them are never initialized. Here is an example of the code: MyClass.h class MyClass : public BaseObject { DECLARE_CLASS_RTTI(MyClass, BaseObject); ... }; MyClass.cpp REGISTER_CLASS(MyClass) Where REGISTER_CLASS is a macro defined as follow #define REGISTER_CLASS(className)\ class __registryItem##className : public __registryItemBase {\ virtual className* Alloc(){ return NEW className(); }\ virtual BaseObject::RTTI& GetRTTI(){ return className::RTTI; }\ }\ \ const __registryItem##className __registeredItem##className(#className); and __registryItemBase looks like this: class __registryItemBase { __registryItemBase(const _string name):mName(name){ ClassRegistry::Register(this); } const _string mName; virtual BaseObject* Alloc() = 0; virtual BaseObject::RTTI& GetRTTI() = 0; } Now the code is similar to what I currently have and what I have works flawlessly, all the registered classes are registered to a ClassManager before main(...) is called. I'm able to instantiate and configure components from scripts and auto-register them to the right system etc... The problem arrises when I create a static library (currently for the iPhone, but I fear it will happen with android as well). In that case the code in the .cpp files is never registered. Why is the resulting code not executed when it is in the library while the same code in the program's binary is always executed? Bonus questions: For this to work in the static library, what should I do? Is there something I am missing? Do I need to pass a flag when building the lib? Should I create another structure and init all the __registeredItem##className using that structure?

• Synaptics drivers are not loading on Kubuntu 13.10 on Dell Vostro 2420

  I freshly installed Kubuntu 13.10, 32 bit version on newly purchased Dell Vostro 2420. everything is working fine except scrolling and multitouch features through touchpad. I am able to change position of cursor using touchpad and able to tap (single click and double click) but scrolling is not working I tried to find out solution by searching on google but could not find proper solution to load synaptics drivers. i am listing some details: Laptop: Dell Vostro 2420 Linux Kernel version and distribution: 3.11.0-12-generic, Kubuntu 13.10 output of xinput list is ? • Gigabyte u24f Touchpad (elantech) not detected

  A new Ubuntu user here. I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my gigabyte U24F laptop. At first the touch-pad (I believe it's elantech) was working fine but one day I turned it off using fn+f10 key from the keyboard. The next day I could no longer turn it back on and it has since been undetected by the system. xinput returns Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ? ? Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? Logitech USB Optical Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ? Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)] ? Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)] ? Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)] ? Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)] ? Sleep Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)] ? Video Bus id=9 [slave keyboard (3)] ? Power Button id=10 [slave keyboard (3)] ? AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] so there's no touch-pad detected. I'm using a USB mouse at the moment. Attempting to run synclient gives "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?" Things I've tried so far to no avail Reinstalling xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. Checking dconf.editor settings, touchpad is enabled. Booting into a live usb session, touchpad no longer even works in this case. (Does this mean a fresh install wouldn't even solve the problem?) Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Ubuntu 13.04 under Parallels Desktop - Black Desktop after X Windows Update

  I have been running Ubuntu 13.04 successfully on a MacBook Pro in a virtual machine in Parallels Desktop 9. Today (2013-10-17) after applying today's Ubuntu update, which included updates to X Windows, my Ubuntu 13.04 virtual machine launches, the launcher comes up, but the screen background is solid black, rather than the shaded orange colour of the default desktop background (and my desktop icons are "hidden behind this blackness", as well). I can launch applications from the launcher, and there is a very brief white flash on the screen, and then it returns to black. It's as if there is a "black blanket" covering the entire screen, so there is no way to interact with any application windows using the keyboard or mouse. The icons of the launcher are responsive to the mouse, so I can right-click and quit any application I have launched. But the rest of the screen is non-responsive to keyboard or mouse. This same behaviour happens with two different versions of Parallels Tools, so I am quite sure this is not a Parallels problem per se, although I could believe that it could be a paroblem with the interface between Parallels and this new updated X Windows code. Could anyone tell me what has happened, and how I might be able to fix this problem, so I can continue to use my Ubuntu 13.04 virtual machine? (I do have the option of reverting to a previous version of my virtual machine from before this update, but if possible I would prefer to keep my version of Ubuntu 13.04 up to date with the latest updates.) • protected abstract override Foo(); &ndash; er... what?

  A couple of weeks back, a co-worker was pondering a situation he was facing.  He was looking at the following class hierarchy: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { } Basically, the first 2 classes are abstract classes, but the OriginalBase class has Test implemented as a virtual method.  What he needed was to force concrete class implementations to provide a proper body for the Test method, but he can’t do mark the method as abstract since it is already implemented in the OriginalBase class. One way to solve this is to hide the original implementation and then force further derived classes to properly implemented another method that will replace it.  The code will look like the following: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { protected sealed override void Test() { Test2(); } protected abstract void Test2(); } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test2 here } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test2 here } With the above code, SecondaryBase class will seal the Test method so it can no longer be overridden.  Then it also made an abstract method Test2 available, which will force the concrete classes to override and provide the proper implementation.  Calling Test will properly call the proper Test2 implementation in each respective concrete classes. I was wondering if there’s a way to tell the compiler to treat the Test method in SecondaryBase as abstract, and apparently you can, by combining the abstract and override keywords.  The code looks like the following: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { protected abstract override void Test(); } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test here } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test here } The method signature makes it look a bit funky, because most people will treat the override keyword to mean you then need to provide the implementation as well, but the effect is exactly as we desired.  The concepts are still valid: you’re overriding the Test method from its original implementation in the OriginalBase class, but you don’t want to implement it, rather you want to classes that derive from SecondaryBase to provide the proper implementation, so you also make it as an abstract method. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before in the wild, so it was pretty neat to find that the compiler does support this case.

• How can I configure the touchpad and keyboard settings on a Dell Inspiron 5110?

  I am using ubuntu 11.10. I want the following 3 things: I have dell inspiron 5110 laptop. There is button at the top right corner of laptop which can be used for turning the screen off. It works in windows but it does not work in ubuntu 11.10. Even in the manual of the laptop, it the button is supported only in windows. Is there a way to activate it in ubuntu 11.10? Some of the keys like: "break" etc. are missing. Can I use other keys (or combinations of other keys) to function as those missing keys? In the program, "mouse and touchpad", there is no tab for touchpad. I want to enable vertical and horizontal scrolling. How do I do that? • iTunes 9.0.2 hangs on launch on Mac OS X 10.6.2

  My iTunes 9.0.2 hangs on launch in OS X 10.6.2. This doesn't happen all the time, only if I've been running for a while. Then it will recur until I restart. Similarly Safari 4.0.4 will hang in the flash player plugin when about to play a video. If I restart both these problems go away until later. Based on this crash dump I am suspecting Audio Hijack Pro. I will try to install a newer version of the driver involved, but so far I haven't had much luck. I have uninstalled the Flash Plugin (10.0.r42 and r32) but clearly I want it in the long run. This is iTunes' crash report. • LVM / Device Mapper maps wrong device

  Hi, I run a LVM setup on a raid1 created by mdadm. md2 is based on sda6 (major:minor 8:6) and sdb6 (8:22). md2 is partition 9:2. The VG on top of md2 has 4 LVs, var, home, usr, tmp. First the problem: While booting it seems as if the device mapper takes the wrong partition for the mapping! • SPARC T5-4 LDoms for RAC and WebLogic Clusters

  I wanted to use two Oracle SPARC T5-4 servers to simultaneously host both Oracle RAC and a WebLogic Server Cluster.   When attempt to browse my Mercurial repositories it usually takes several refreshes before the repository list is displayed. The configuration is as follows: Windows Server 2003 (Dedicated machine hosted by http://www.server4you.com/. Site has anonymous password protection with self-signed SSL. Mercurial 1.5.3 Python 2.6.5 Python for Windows 32 extensions 214 py2.6 isapi-wsgi 0.4.2 The repositories are being served via ISAPI using the standard hgwebdir_wspi.py file (copy to follow). Other problems with the repository server: Before doing a clone/push/etc I have to browse the repositories first otherwise hg on my local machine can not locate the site. I have one a repository with a large changeset that after a minute or so throw error "abort: error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". Will be asking another question for this problem. • gcc compiling error on Solaris 10

  I want to compile a source code, but there are some compiling errors about __sync_xxx functions (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap etc.) GCC version on machine is 3.4.3 (it must be gcc 4.1 or over for supporting atomic builtins), so I have downloaded GCC v4.6, copied it to another directory (I didn't remove v3.4.3) then change the $PATH path for GCC but it doesn't work (the same error occurs). I want to ask that is only changing gcc path with export PATH=... enough for compiling with new GCC?

So it rewrites and passes the hidden get querystring to my pages for localhost/d/x/y/z as ?path=x/y/z and localhost/d/ as ?path= (blank) but... localhost/d works, but now appears in the address bar as this ugly monster: http://localhost/d/?path=/Users/audiozoom/Documents/webroot/d What could be the problem?

  I am using the ConfigurationManager.AppSetting["blah"].ToString() method to get the path to the folder that contains the files I'm needing. But I'm throwing an UnsupportedFormatException on the path when it tries to use Directory.GetFiles(path). The returning value has the escape characters included and I'm not sure how to keep it from returning the extra characters.
