• Embedding a YouTube Video Based on a PHP Variable

  I have a website that I am creating for a class project. The website shows information about bands (which is stored in a mysql database). I am trying to spruce up the site a bit, and I would like to embed a YouTube video based on the band's name. Say, for instance, I have "Led Zeppelin" stored in my database. How can I take a PHP variable containing "Led Zeppelin", search YouTube using that variable, find a random video, and then embed that in the website? From the research I've done, it seems you can only embed YouTube videos if you know the exact address of the video. Thanks!

• PHP Menu Question

  As one of the steps toward a greater website redesign I am putting the majority of the content of our website into html files to be used as includes. I am intending on passing a variable to the PHP template page through the URL to call the proper include. Our website has many programs that each need an index page as well as about 5 sub-pages. These program pages will need a menu system to navigate between the different pages.I am naming the pages pagex_1, pagex_2, pagex_3, etc. where "pagex" is descriptive of the page content. My question is, what would be the best way to handle this menu system? Is there a way to modify the initial variable used to arrive at the index page to create links in the menu to arrive at the other pages? Thanks for any help!

• Debugging 500 Internal Server Error on PHP running on IIS7 cluster

  Recently my ISP switched our website to an IIS7.0 high availibility cluster. The website is running on PHP5.2.1 and I can only upload files (so no registry tweaks). I had tested the website before and everything seemed to be working, but now the checkout page fails with: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. As error messages go, this isn't very informative. I've tried: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('error_log', $file_php_can_write_to ); but both don't seem to do anything. Anyone know how to get better debugging output?

  I have a back-end MS Access 2002-2003 database which stores blog entries. I created a separate front-end database with the forms for entering blog posts into the backend database. Finally, I have a website utilizing ASP to display the blog entries. The website connects directly to the backend database using an OLEDB connection object. Whenever I open the form for creating a new post in MS Access, loading the blog post page on the website displays the error: Could not use "; file already in use. I would like to be able to display the older blog posts even though the newest one is in the process of being added.

• Selecting Entity Data Model Laguage -- Visual C# source file generated even when i select VB

  Am adding an Entity Data Model to an ASP.NET website. When i Add New Item to the website and select ADO.NET Entity Data Model, am asked for the model name and language. I go a head and select Visual Basic as the language, the model is added and the site can compile with out any issues. however, the model it adds a ModelName.Designer.cs source file, instead of a ModelName.Designer.vb source file. am thinking this is strange as its happening with only one of my website. my other sites have .vb designer source file for their Entity Data Models. The site still compiles with out any errors but am afraid some thing is not right. any one experienced this?, is this normal behavior?

  fontsquirrel.com allows you to upload a font and create a @font-face kit which you can apply to your website and use to display fonts which will display cross-browser (even in IE6!). But what I want to know is, is this legal? I've been supplied the font "Lubalin Graph Std" and told to use this for headers on the website I'm creating. I can upload the font file to fontsquirrel.com and use this to display headers in this font across the website - but I'm worried we'll get into trouble for doing this. What should I do?

  I am trying to redirect everything to a single page from my /website/folder/ directory. I added a simple .htaccess with this simple code (I know this would require more code in .htaccess but it's just a test). RewriteEngine on RewriteRule .* index.php [NC,L] When I try : http://127.0.0.1:8888/website/folder/fileDoesntExistMustGoIndex I have an "Object not found 404" error and the access.log display: 127.0.0.1 - - [13/Mar/2010:13:48:31 -0500] "GET /website/folder/fileDoesntExistMustGoIndexHTTP/1.1" 404 1118 I have check the httpd.conf and I see nothing that could alter this .htaccess statement. Any idea?

  I'm trying to setup an svn server. I maintain couple of websites based on asp. There are three environments currently. Development: Any new modules/enhancements will be done in this environment Staging: Mirror of production Production: The public facing website. Currently when there's an update to the website, this is what we do do the update in development copy file to staging copy file to production In production we take a backup of the old file by renaming it. I would like to make it simpler by installing SVN and stop the file renaming thing. But im not sure how many repositories to have per website. should be it be three or two? I'm absolutely new to svn.   Is it possible to define a virtual directory in IIS and somehow make the files in that directory relative to the physical directory and not to the virtual directory ? For instance on my server I have the following folders: D:\WebSite\Css\myTheme.css, D:\WebSite\Images\image1.jpg I created a virtual directory on IIS resources.mysite: Inside my website I reference the sheet like this resources.mysite/myTheme.css But inside myTheme.css I reference pictures from ../Images/images1.jpg. So the problem is that image1.jpg is not found because it is relative to the physical folder and not the virtual folder on IIS. Can I solve this problem without modifying the style sheet ?

What happens is that our user gives his credentials to our website to 3rd party - it can be another website or a mobile application - that performs requests on his behalf. Say there is a form that the user fills out and sends a message. Can I protect this form so that the server processing the submission can tell whether the user has submitted it directly from the browser or not? I don't want to use CAPTCHA for usability reasons. Can I do it with some javascript?

  Hi there. I'm new to website development using Java but I've got started with Wicket and make a little website. I'd like to expand on what I've already made (a website with a form, labels and links) and implement database connectivity. I've looked at a couple of examples, in example Mystic Paste, and I see that they're using Hibernate and Spring. I've never touched Hibernate or Spring before and to be honest the heavy use of annotations scare me a little bit as I haven't really made use of them before, with the exception of supressing warnings and overriding. At this point I have one Connection object which I set up in the WebApplication class upon initialization. I then retrieve this connection object whenever I need to perform queries. I don't know if this is a bad approach or not for a production web application. All help is greatly appreciated.

  How can I open a web-page and receive its cookies using PHP? The motivation: I am trying to use feed43 to create an RSS feed from the non-RSS-enabled HighLearn website (remote learning website). I found the web-page that contains the feed contents I need to parse, however, it requires to login first. Luckily, logging in can be done via a GET request so it's as easy as fopen()ing "http://highlearn.website/login_page.asp?userID=foo&password=bar" for example. But I still need to get the cookies generated when I logged in, pass the cookies to the real client (using setcookie() maybe?) and then redirect.

• where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

  So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor.   hi, i need to send a request to a website when a user submits their url, i tried using curl but it uses server ip which i dont want i have seen a website that is doing a similar job by using applet, users need to open a popup which contains the applet after they leave it open allow it to run it uses a port and then uses the localhost ip like so 127.0.0.1:64653 to send request and basicly curl by the user ip. i decompiled the applet the website was using and they were using java.net.ServerSocket and some other java code but i do not know anything about java. I would to know how this can be done.

  I have three files named like: AjxDm.php db_test website.php What I am trying to do is AjxDm.php in this file I click and I am using Ajax.Request and it directed me to the db_test.php. In this file I am retrieving a value from the database and I assign the value into a dropdown. Again when I try to select one of the options in the dropdown it is direceting me to the Website.php using Ajax.Request with the dropdown selected value and retrieve data from database and display. The problem is that when I call from AjxDm.php to Db_test it works but when I select option in db_test.php it doesn't find a JavaScript function which direct me to the website.php. What can I do to make it work?

  Im using facebook javaSDK for my website and I have a weird problem. When I load the website with "internet explorer" it always runs fine. When I load the website with firefox it always loads TWICE, and when I use chrome the JSDK sometimes loads once and sometimes not loads at all , giving me the error "Uncaught ReferenceError: FB is not defined ". I tried using asynchronous loading for the SDK but still the same problem. btw I have firebug on firefox, could that be the reason the JSDK loads twice? Thanks

• Are fluid websites worth making anymore?

  Hey guys, I'm making a website now and I am trying to decide if I should make it fluid or not. Fixed width websites are much easier to make and also much easier to make them appear consistent. To be honest though, I personally prefer looking at fluid websites that stretch to the full width of my monitor. My question comes from the fact that in most modern browsers you can hold control and scroll your mouse wheel to basically resize any website. So is creating a fluid website worth the trouble?

• Is there a mode for different Paypal IPN?

  I have a donation script at this moment where the user inputs the donation amount on the Paypal website. The problem with this is that some people donate $0.30 which equates to $0 after Paypal fees. I want to put first check the amount donated using an input on my website and then send off the amount to the Paypal website where they can continue to enter their credit card information and what not. How do I do this? Do I have to change to another mode? or am I supposed to send the amount to Paypal and then they'll know how it's handled?

  I have a linux server, and I am about to upload a classifieds website to it. The website is php based. That means php code adds/removes classifieds, with the help of the users offcourse. The php-code then adds/removes a classified to a database index called Solr (like MySql). Problem is that anybody can currently access the database, but I only want the website to access the database (solr). Solr is on port 8983 as standard btw. My Q is, if I add a rule in my firewall (iptables), to only allow connections coming from the servers IP to the Solr port nr, would this solve my issue? Thanks

Broadly, I can divide the tasks in following two categories: 1) Views from the website For this part, I just use the SQL query and execute it in my facebook App. 2) Create Cotent Initially, I tried this by taking the values in a form and then inserting those values into the drupal database myself.
