  • Writing exceptions in multihreaded windows service to event log

    I have a multithreaded windows service that will unpredictably stop running once every 24 hours or so. I am writing to the event log and that's going through just fine, but whenever the service crashes there are no messages in the event log (even that the service stopped, despite having AutoLog=true). Is there a way to have uncaught exceptions written straight to the log, even if they aren't in the original thread?

  • AWS Load Balancer with a static IP address

    I have a set-up running on Amazon cloud with a couple of EC2 Instances running through a load balancer. It is important that the site has a unique(static) IP or set of IPs as I'm plugging in 3rd party APIs which only accept requests made from IPs which have been added to their whitelist. So basically unless we can give these 3rd parties a static IP or range of IPs that the requests from the site will always come from then we would be unable to make any calls to them. Anyone knows how to achieve this as I know that Elastic IPs are not compatible with load balancers? If I were to look up the IP of the load balancer DNS name (e.g. dualstack.awseb-BAMobile-ENV-xxxxxxxxx.eu-west-1.elb.amazonaws.com resolves to 200.200.200.200) would that IP be Static? Any help/advise is greatly appreciated guys.

  • Exposing some live data on a website - New to ASP.NET, need guidelines

    I have a large .NET based system running within the company intranet, which allows winforms users to see some live calculated numbers and a custom winforms control drawn live (but not real-time). The Forms users can also affect the operation of the system. I would like to just show the live numbers on a website, along with the custom control. Nothing needs to come back from the web user, as the web app is meant to be just for monitoring. All the numbers can be calculated at the server. It's been a long time since I touched ASP.NET, and I need to know how to proceed. What are the steps in building and deploying such a website? Any caveats I need to look out for?

  • Is Amazon SQS the right choice here? Rails performance issue.

    I'm close to releasing a rails app with the common networking features (messaging, wall, etc.). I want to use some kind of background processing (most likely Bj) for off-loading tasks from the request/response cycle. This would happen when users invite friends via email to join and for email notifications. I'm not sure if I should just drop these invites and notifications in my Database, using a model and then just process it with a worker process every x minutes or if I should go for Amazon SQS, storing the messages and invites there and let my worker retrieve it from Amazon SQS for processing (sending the invites / notifications). The Amazon approach would get load off my Database but I guess it is slower to retrieve messages from there. What do you think?

    Scenario I have a C# Windows Service that essentially subscribes to some events and if anything is triggered by the events, it carries out a few tasks. The Thing... ....is that these events are monitoring processes, which I need to restart at certain times of the day. Question What's the best way I can go about performing this task at an exact time? Thoughts so far are: 1)To use a timer that checks what time it is every few minutes. 2)Something that isn't a timer and doesn't suck as an implementation. Help greatly appreciated.

  • InfoPath browser form submitting dirty fields changed through javascript

    I'm trying to submit an InfoPath browser form with fields that have been modified through the Spell Checker included in Sharepoint server. The spell checker checks all the fields in the page and once the user closes the SpellChecker dialog, it changes the textboxes with the new values through javascript. When I click Submit, debug the FormEvents_Submit in the form code behind and try to do a GetNodeValue("XPath to changed field"), it still shows the old values. I realize that this may be a problem of doing postbacks and I'd like to do a full page postback once the SpellChecker is done changing all the textboxes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.     I am trying to deploy a simple SOAP 1.2 web service to WebSphere v8. My service is @Stateless @WebService(serviceName = "MemberServices", portName = "MemberPort", endpointInterface = "gov.virginia.vita.edmsvc.ws.MemberWS") @BindingType(value=SOAPBinding.SOAP12HTTP_BINDING) @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRED) public class MemberBean implements MemberWS, MemberBeanLocal { .... } However the server is throwing the following error: "This implementation does not contain a WSDL definition and is not a SOAP 1.1 based binding. Per the JAXWS specification, a WSDL definition cannot be generated for this implementation.error" this same service deploy successfully on Glashfish and JBoss, any ideas ?

  • SSIS web service task producing "object reference" error

    Our care management system uses a web service to import data. I've successfully executed one of its methods using soapUI, and now I want to replicate this with an SSIS 2008 web service task, but I'm running into a problem. I've created the "HTTP Connection Manager" successfully, and specified the location of the "WSDLFile", but when I go to the Input tab and select the Service from the dropdown (there is only one), I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error, and and the Method dropdown is empty. Any idea what this is trying to tell me?

    I am trying to call an asmx web service from an Android app. Just literally started some Android development today. I've been following various solutions I have found on the net and on here and it seems it is more difficult than anticipated. I have tried various solutions and using KSoap2 seems to be the easiest way to implement this, well it would be if I could get it working. I have the set of files in the Web References folder under my project. There's a .wsdl, .disco and several .datasource files. Is there any way to re-add this web reference through the existing files rather than using the "Add Web Reference" dialog?

  • NetNamedPipe: varying response time when communication is idling

    I have two WCF apps communicating one-way over named pipes. All is nice, except for one thing: Normally, the request/response cycle takes zero (marginal) time. However, if there was a time span of, say, half a minute without any communication, the request/response increases up to ~300-500ms. I looked around the net and I got the idea of using a heart beat/ping mechanism to keep the communication channel busy. Using trial and error I found that when doing a request each 10 seconds, the response times stay low. Starting at around 15s intervals, the "hiccup" response times begin to appear. Now I'm wondering where this phenomenon is originating from. I tried setting alle conceivable timeouts on both sides to 1 minute, but that did not help. Can anybody explain what's going on there?

A request to a REST web service developed using Apache CXF and Spring MVC with MySQL as back end serving references(a field in database) to images,audio and video files stored in file system. In the response message, what is the best method to send the content to the client(another application using the service which I developed). URI: http://www.filmservices.com/film/{id} A client here is not the end user. Send the encoded hyperlink's(where the content is stored in the file system) to the client, so that the client renders the response and displays it to the browser. Use Base64 to encode the message(image,audio,video) and send it to the client. Main concern is performance.

  • Is there a way to bring an application's GUI to the current desktop?

    Background: Started a fair amount of work before realizing that a Windows Service cannot start an app with a GUI that displays without potential problems. The proper solution of separating the GUI of the app to be started is non-trivial, so I'm trying to think of alternative solutions. There is a GUI to manage the service that is a separate executable, but the process to be launched (actually multiple instances of it) has its own GUI that needs to be shown. It doesn't need to be made visible by the service itself, but it needs to be at least able to be made visible by another process with a visible GUI. The Windows User that is running the service and that needs to see the GUI of the launched process is the same and known at install time. Is there some way to accomplish this or is it back to the drawing board? Also both the service and the app to launch are both our code and modifiable.

I have converted my application into a windows servise. Wouldn't it became nasty if my xml elements are many level deep? Is there a workaround where I can read the element in ns1 namespace without knowing whether a prefix is defined?
