• Use multiple css files or a single file organised by comments

  Hi, what is regarded as the best approach to organising css. At the moment I am using a single link in the head of my xhtml documents as follows: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style/imports.css" /> In this file im importing several different css files i.e. reset.css, structure.css, skin.css I know there is an overhead in doing this as each requires an extra trip to the server but it makes things much more logical and organised in my opinion. Does anyone have an opinion on how best to organise their css. - Would it be better to put all these seperate css funcions into one single file? Also, is it best practice to minify css.

• PHP/Apache Deny folder access to user but not to script

  Hey all, So I have this php web app, and one of my folder contains some files that can be downloaded. I have a download script that modifies the headers, in order to always offer a download link. (instead of showing a picture for example, when you click on a link, a download box pops out) Right now, if you enter a url like: http://www.mywebsite.com/content/ You get the listing of all the downloadable files, and of course, you can just download them all, without going through the website interface. Personally, I don't think it's a problem, since I often use downthemall or other downloading tool, and this type of access is a great time saver.... But of course my company does not think so :-p They want people to use the interface in order to view the Ads... Would they be a way, maybe with a protected .htaccess, to leave the folder access to my download script, but deny access to the users...? I hope I am making sense and you know what I mean :) All help/remarks appreciated!

• Too many jquery plugins?

  I'm developing a website, but I realized that, in addition to the link to my main javascript file, and the link to the jquery file, it's beginning to look like I'm going to have links to three or more plugins also. I'm just wondering if this is good practice? The site I'm building is a web app, so I need a lot of functionality, but I don't want to be a plugin glutton. Is it considered good to append all the javascript plugins together into one file so as to only have to download one file, or will I run into problems?

  I need to compare two dates to show an edit link if it is within 5 mins after the post was made, in php. If after 5 mins dont show anything. $answer_post_date = get_the_time("Y-m-d"); $current_date = date("Y-m-d"); $formated_current_date = strtotime($answer_post_date); $formated_answer_post_date = strtotime($current_date); At this point i have two values: 1274414400 ($formated_current_date) 1276056000 ($formated_answer_post_date) I am not sure what to do next to check if the current date/time is ! 5 mins from answer post date. Any suggestions would be great All i really need the answer to be is a Boolean (yes/no) and if yes display the minuets left to show the link to edit.

• What is the code for a number sign in sharepoint?

  I've created a link in Sharepoint using the Content Editor Web Part. My link uses html to open up an email with the fields to, cc, subject, and body filled out. However, in the cc section I need a number sign (#) for a mailbox. When I use the html code & #35;(minus the space) my entire code crumbles. Everything starting at the "&" disappears. However, just for kicks I tried & pound;(minus the space) and the code works for a european pound sign. Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions?

• jQuery code works in Firebug, but not on its own

  I'm having quite the brainbuster of an issue right now. I am trying to change a link's hash tag at the end from "respond" to "comments" with jQuery. I have a simple script that should do this, however it does not work. The link does not change. However, Firebug shows no errors and when I run the code in Firebug's console, it works just as I intend. Why doesn't this work on its own? Does anybody have a solution, I'm at my wits edge with this one. • Global search box extension - how to make browser to start when suggestion picked.

  Hi, I'm implementing global search box extension (sth like SearchableDictionary sample in android sdk). Everything works fine - suggestions are displayed properly. Problem is that I want browser to start when user picks a suggestion. (each suggestion is a link) Columns of my cursor contain SearchManager.SUGGEST_COLUMN_INTENT_DATA, and I use that to pass http link. My searchable xml contains default intent action set to: android:searchSuggestIntentAction="android.intent.action.VIEW". But when user hits the suggestion, my application is started instead of browser. What am I missing? Regards!

• Serve static symbolic links with nginx

  I'm using nginx to serve some static files that are actually symbolic links. When I do this the Last-Modified headers sent by nginx use the timestamp of the target file, not of the link itself. So, if I now have link C pointing to A, and I change it to point it to B (A and B have the same timestamp) I still see the content of A in the browser. I don't know if it's from the browser cache (because it has the same Last-Modified header) or from nginx. Any idea on how to fix this?

• Prevent ASP.NET from encoding strings on output

  How can I stop ASP.Net from encoding anchor tags in List Items when the page renders? I have a collection of objects. Each object has a link property. I did a foreach and tried to output the links in a BulletedList, but ASP encoded all the links. Any idea? Thanks! Here's the offending snippet of code. Normally, I would use something like this: $(".overlay_popup").bind("click", function(){... but this didn't work for the overlay. Any ideas on how I can successfully do this?

• .Net LoginControls - User can't logout in Firefox

  Basically, the logout link doesn't do anything, but only in Firefox. (I can login and out freely from other browsers) There really isn't a whole lot of information I can really give other than that, since I'm still new to this project and .net as a whole, and know almost nothing about the login controls. So if someone else has experienced a similar issue in the past, and can recognize the issue with the little info I have, that would be great! If not, sorry for the lack of depth, but its all I have. • How can I close a SimpleModal dialog when the user clicks the Back button?

  When a user clicks on a button or link, I use the SimpleModal jQuery plugin to display a dialog to overlay the entire page, preventing the user from clicking another button or link during the delay before the next page loads. (I'd like to avoid this, but that's an issue for another day.) After the next page displays, if the user clicks the Back button, the previous page still has the SimpleModal overlay displayed, preventing them from using the page. This is a problem. How can I cause the SimpleModal dialog to close automatically either when the leaves the page or when the user clicks the Back button to return to the page? I tried this without success: $("body").unload(function() { $.modal.close(); }); Thanks! Wally

The process is as follows: (1) The site's user enters a search phrase; (2) The search results page searched the site's database, and returns the page title as a link, and a short snippet from each search "hit", with the search phrase highlighted. I already have the search part done, and also the "highlighted" part done (using Regex).   Hello! At the moment, I am creating some kind of admin panel/backend for my site. I want to do the following: Only admins (a user has a user_role(integer) -- 1 = admin, 2 = moderator, 3 = user) can see and access a link for the admin panel. So I created an admin_controller. In my admin controller I created a new function called is_admin?: class AdminController < ApplicationController def admin_panel end def is_admin? current_user.user_role == 1 end end my route looks like. map.admin_panel '/admin-panel', :controller => 'admin', :action => 'admin_panel' and in my _sidebar.html.erb (partial in applicaton.html.erb) I created the link: <%= link_to "Admin Panel", :admin_panel unless is_admin? %> Now I get an error called: undefined method `is_admin?' • How to record when user follows external links without slowing user down

  I want to track when user clicks external links for analytics purposes. The simplest solution is to replace all external links with links to special record-and-redirect controller, but that would slow the user unnecessarily. The second idea would be to override click event and within in $.post a message to record controller, then let the main event handler happen, which will usually be either click (open link in same tab) or middle click (open in new tab) - good either way, and the user won't have to wait for wait for my server to record it, it's fire-and-forget. (I don't care if users without Javascript don't get tracked) Is that a reasonable way to go? Or what else would be the best way to track all external link clicks?

  I fount this answer, but wanted to expand on the question and couldn't find any solutions here on stack or through searching google. Substring domainname from URL SQL Basically the link above solves my problem with a simple URL like parsing "www.google.com" with the result of google. What I am looking for to expand on that is the solution from the link above doesn't help with url's like 'www.maps.google.com' that just returns maps. WHat I would like is to have it return 'google' from the url 'www.maps.google.com' or return 'example' from 'www.test.example.com'. If anyone has a solution to this, I would greatly appreciate it. Update: To be more specific I will also need parsing on second level domains etc. 'www.maps.google.com.au' to return 'google' Here is my Sql function.
