  • How can I retrieve Google Chrome bookmarks?

    Here is what happened: At first, I upgraded Mozilla Firefox browser to it's latest version. Then, I realized that all my bookmarks in Google Chrome were gone. In my panic, I imported the bookmarks of Firefox to Google Chrome just in case they were transferred, but they weren't. Then, I searched over my computer to find the bookmarks location of Chrome and I found the two relevant files Bookmarks Bookmarks.bak but they were updated too. What else can I do to restore my bookmarks?

  • Creating software raid on spare internal drives with Fedora

    Hi there, I got two internal 80GB drives which are blank and just sitting in the case. I have tried googling for the steps or some info but I can only find out how to setup raid when I am first installing Fedora - not for doing when already setup. These are two new (old) drives, that are blank, the system is not on them so should really just be as simple as formating and then binding them to a raid - but can't find any information. Any clues?

  • Why do I sometimes get 'sh: $'\302\211 ... ': command not found' in xterm/sh?

    Sometimes when I simply type a valid command like 'find ...', or anything really, I get back the following, which is completely unexpected and confusing (... is command name I type): sh: $'\302\211...': command not found There is some corruption going on I think. I don't use color in my prompt, I am using the Bash shell in POSIX mode as sh (chsh to /bin/sh and so on - $SHELL is sh). What is going on and why does this keep happening? Anything I can debug? I think this is more of an xterm issue than sh, or at least a combination of the two.     I'm searching for something like: tcpdump -p PID # But tcpdump does not know the PID or lsof -i --continuous # But lsof just runs and exits, no «live logging» to log which connections an application opens. In my case, I want to find out to which port git connects when committing. This happens in a fraction of a second, so I cannot use lsof. If there is a lot of traffic, filtering by PID or process name would be useful.

I would like to be able to install web apps like instiki, run version control repositories, and serve content over the web. But the admins won't permit this due to security concerns. Is there a way for them to sandbox me, protecting their servers in case I am hacked? What is the standard solution for a problem like this?

    hi all, i've been reinstalling my oracle and somehow when im trying to start them, it says that apphelp.dll is missing. when i lookup in c:/window/systems32 the apphelp.dll was there. i also download new from internet and try to replace them in case it crash but it said that i cannot delete the file coz it's still running. my question is, if i was doing the right thing by replacing the apphelp.dll can solve my problem, how can i stop this apphelp.dll? thanks

  • Scroll modifier for mouse/trackball in windows

    I have a trackball (Logitech Trackman Marble in this case, though this could apply to any mouse or pointing device) where I would like to use one of the buttons as a middle-click when I click it, but to trigger scrolling action when I hold it down and move the ball around. I could do this quite easily in Linux by setting scroll-modifier in the X config, but the driver that comes with the trackball (Logitech) only allows one or the other. Is there any way to set this up in Windows 8?

    I'm converting a CSV to SQL inserts and there's a null-able text column which I need to quote in case it is not NULL. I would write something like the following for the conversion: Import-Csv data.csv | foreach { "INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME (COL1,COL2) VALUES ($($_.COL1),$($_.COL2));" >> inserts.sql } But I can't figure out how to add an additional tier into the pipeline to look if COL2 is not equal to 'NULL' and to quote it in such cases. How do I achieve such behavior?

However, I can only select another language when selecting the option to get a DVD sent to me (which is 30 EUR more expensive): If I select the Download option I would be forced to get a German version: So is there a way to purchase another language as download (in my case it'd be English)?

  • Killing a process that keeps respawning

    I got infected by a virus. It looks like I removed it, but it somehow injected a few more processes (I can see them in the task manager) that respawn when I kill them (somehow). Is there a way to destroy those process to stop them from respawning, or in the case something else is respawning them, to kill that "something"?

When I click a link, the link is something like: a.com/something/blah.php Then moments later the url in the browser changes to something like: a.com/somethingelse/blahblah.php Is there a way with any browser (especially firefox) to have it ask me before redirecting? I have tried the 'ask me before redirecting' feature in firefox but in this case since it redirects to its own site it does not seem to work.

    Ive have the Nokia N900 mobile phone (running Maemo linux), and my device is really slow while using the wifi and trying to get stuff online (checking mail, loading pages). The webbrowsers itself (MicroB, Firefox, Opera) starts fast. Yesterday ive tried to set the dns to googles but that did not solve the case. Is there, and how do i check/verify my connection to the internet if im connected to my home wifi in linux? (tools, other then ping :D)

    I'm running a Windows 7 guest virtualised under QEMU and using libvirt on a Fedora 17 host, does anyone know if it's possible to create 2 video 'cards' (or a single dual-head) and a spice server for each and connect multiple spice clients to simulate a dual screen VM? Looking through the VMs xml configuration file I can't see a way to associate elements (eg. Spice servers) to elements (in this case, a qxl card). I'm sure qxl doesn't support the dual-head option but are multiple video elements possible?

How can I easily find out what server or motherboard models will be compatible with this processor? I am ideally looking for a dual-processor motherboard and I see that it is socket LGA771.     I have experienced some problems with my headphones and it turned out the front 3.5mm audio jack is defective..and it doesn't make a good contact. I can't replace the jack because it's built-in. I am wondering if there are such things as "modular" Front panels to be inserted into the available external 3.5" bay and, of course, to support (natively, internal connector) Realtek HD Audio. (my case is Asus TA-K5, but I guess it doesn't make any difference)

    Is there an Emacs function that toggles between .cpp and .hpp files that are not in the same directories? I know there is toggle-source.el, but it apparently does not handle the case where .cpp and .hpp are not in different directories. But my directory structure is like this: project1/src/foo.cpp project1/include/foo.hpp project2/src/bar.cpp project2/include/bar.hpp It shouldn't be hard to toggle between src/foo.cpp and include/foo.hpp but I don't speak Lisp ... :`(
