  • mysql_query arguments in PHP

    - by Chris Wilson
    I'm currently building my first database in MySQL with an interface written in PHP and am using the 'learn-by-doing' approach. The figure below illustrates my database. Table names are at the top, and the attribute names are as they appear in the real database. I am attempting to query the values of each of these attributes using the code seen below the table. I think there is something wrong with my mysql_query() function since I am able to observe the expected behaviour when my form is successfully submitted, but no search results are returned. Can anyone see where I'm going wrong here? Update 1: I've updated the question with my enter script, minus the database login credentials. <html> <head> <title>Search</title> </head> <body> <h1>Search</h1> <!--Search form - get user input from this--> <form name = "search" action = "<?=$PHP_SELF?>" method = "get"> Search for <input type = "text" name = "find" /> in <select name = "field"> <option value = "Title">Title</option> <option value = "Description">Description</option> <option value = "City">Location</option> <option value = "Company_name">Employer</option> </select> <input type = "submit" name = "search" value = "Search" /> </form> <form name = "clearsearch" action = "Search.php"> <input type = "submit" value = "Reset search" /> </form> <?php if (isset($_GET["search"])) // Check if form has been submitted correctly { // Check for a search query if($_GET["find"] == "") { echo "<p>You did not enter a search query. Please press the 'Reset search' button and try again"; exit; } echo "<h2>Search results</h2>"; ?> <table align = "left" border = "1" cellspacing = "2" cellpadding = "2"> <tr> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">No.</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Title</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Employer</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Description</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Location</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Date Posted</font></th> <th><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Application Deadline</font></th> </tr> <? // Connect to the database $username=REDACTED; $password=REDACTED; $host=REDACTED; $database=REDACTED; mysql_connect($host, $username, $password); @mysql_select_db($database) or die (mysql_error()); // Perform the search $find = mysql_real_escape_string($find); $query = "SELECT job.Title, job.Description, employer.Company_name, address.City, job.Date_posted, job.Application_deadline WHERE ( Title = '{$_GET['find']}' OR Company_name = '{$_GET['find']}' OR Date_posted = '{$_GET['find']}' OR Application_deadline = '{$_GET['find']}' ) AND job.employer_id_job = employer.employer_id AND job.address_id_job = address.address_id"; if (!$query) { die ('Invalid query:' .mysql_error()); } $result = mysql_query($query); $num = mysql_numrows($result); $count = 0; while ($count < $num) { $title = mysql_result ($result, $count, "Title"); $date_posted = mysql_result ($result, $count, "Date_posted"); $application_deadline = mysql_result ($result, $count, "Application_deadline"); $description = mysql_result ($result, $count, "Description"); $company = mysql_result ($result, $count, "Company_name"); $city = mysql_result ($result, $count, "City"); ?> <tr> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $count + 1; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $title; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $company; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $description; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $date_posted; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $application_deadline; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $education_level; ?></font></td> <td><font face = "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><? echo $years_of_experience; ?></font></td> <? $count ++; } } ?> </body> </html>

  • PHP Sockets Errors (connection refused and No such file or directory)

    - by Purefan
    Hello all, I am writing a server app (broadcaster) and a client (relayer). Several relayers can connect to the broadcaster at the same time, send information and the broadcaster will redirect the message to a matching relayer (for example relayer1 sends to broadcaster who sends to relayer43, relayer2 - broadcaster - relayer73...) The server part is working as I have tested it with a telnet client and although its at this point only an echo server it works. Both relayer and broadcaster sit on the same server so I am using AF_UNIX sockets, both files are in different folders though. I have tried two approaches for the relayer and both have failed, the first one is using socket_create: public function __construct() { // where is the socket server? $this->_sHost = 'tcp://127.0.0.1'; $this->_iPort = 11225; // open a client connection $this->_hSocket = socket_create(AF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM, 0); echo 'Attempting to connect to '.$this->_sHost.' on port '.$this->_iPort .'...'; $result = socket_connect($this->_hSocket, $this->_sHost, $this->_iPort); if ($result === false) { echo "socket_connect() failed.\nReason: ($result) " . socket_strerror(socket_last_error($this->_hSocket)) . "\n"; } else { echo "OK.\n"; } This returns "Warning: socket_connect(): unable to connect [2]: No such file or directory in relayer.class.php on line 27" and (its running from command line) it often also returns a segmentation fault. The second approach is using pfsockopen: public function __construct() { // where is the socket server? $this->_sHost = 'tcp://127.0.0.1'; $this->_iPort = 11225; // open a client connection $fp = pfsockopen ($this->_sHost, $this->_iPort, $errno, $errstr); if (!$fp) { $result = "Error: could not open socket connection"; } else { // get the welcome message fgets ($fp, 1024); // write the user string to the socket fputs ($fp, 'Message ' . __LINE__); // get the result $result .= fgets ($fp, 1024); // close the connection fputs ($fp, "END"); fclose ($fp); // trim the result and remove the starting ? $result = trim($result); $result = substr($result, 2); // now print it to the browser } which only returns the error "Warning: pfsockopen(): unable to connect to tcp://127.0.0.1:11225 (Connection refused) in relayer.class.php on line 33 " In all tests I have tried with different host names, 127.0.0.1, localhost, tcp://127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.199, tcp://192.168.0.199, none of it has worked. Any ideas on this?

  • Lambda recursive PHP functions.

    - by Kendall Hopkins
    Is it possible to have a PHP function that is both recursive and anonymous (lambda). This is my attempt to get it to work, but it doesn't pass in the function name. $factorial = function( $n ) use ( $factorial ) { if( $n == 1 ) return 1; return $factorial( $n - 1 ) * $n; }; print $factorial( 5 ); I'm also aware that this is a bad way to implement factorial, it's just an example.

    Hello, I've got a database with video ids and N keywords for each video. I made a table with 1 video ID and 1 keyword ID in each row. What's the easiest way to order keywords by frequency? I mean to extract the number of times a keyword is used and order them. Is it possible to do that with sql or do I need to use php arrays? Thanks

  • Classes within classes in PHP

    - by Matt
    Can you do this in PHP? I've heard conflicting opinions: Something like: Class bar { function a_function () { echo "hi!"; } } Class foo { public $bar; function __construct() { $this->bar = new bar(); } } $x = new foo(); $x->bar->a_function(); Will this echo "hi!" or not?

  • MySQL : Insert Exactly Same Data Multiple Rows Without PHP Loop

    - by Robert Hanson
    I need to insert same data to my MySQL table without having PHP loop. The reason why I'm doing this is that because I have a column with Auto_Increment feature and that column associates with other table. So, I just need to insert some exactly same data and it's multiple rows (dynamic) but by using single INSERT syntax below : INSERT INTO outbox_multipart (TextDecoded) VALUES ('$SMSMessage') how to have this single INSERT syntax, but produce n number of rows?

  • Only show certain items in a mysql database using php and time()

    - by Jon
    Is there a way to only show the items that are older than a certain date in a php mysql array? I'm using this query method and sorting by lastpost_cl: $query="SELECT * FROM properties ORDER BY lastpost_cl"; $result=mysql_query($query); $num = mysql_num_rows ($result); mysql_close(); and I was thinking the way of checking the time would be: if (time() <= strtotime($lastpost_cl)) { } How can I combine the two and only show lastpost_cl that are older that the current time?
