  I am using jquery validation plugin to validate a registration form. Each text input field has instructions pre-filled as values in the input box ex: for a text-input box id='Name', the default value will be set to 'Enter Your Name'. I have pasted below sample code: <input type="text" id="Name" value="Enter Your Name" onfocus="if(this.value == 'Your Name'){this.value = '';}" type="text" class="required" onblur="if(this.value == ''){this.value='Your Name';}" size="25" /> What I need to know is how to specify in the validation rule such that the plugin throws a required field error if the input box contains either the default message or empty values.   I want to make some changes in the following piece of code. And when you click on any thumbe, it disappears the thumbs and shows the updated votes. I want to make changes that in begining it shows vote up and vote down separately (which are stored in database separately). and after thumb up or down is pressed, it should not remove the thumbs, but it should show the updated vote up and down separatetly.   Ok, here's what I'm trying to do. I have a DIV box with a child element set with DISPLAY: NONE;. I'm trying to use Jquery so that when the mouse enters the parent DIV box, the child element is made visible, and then hides when the mouse leaves the parent DV. There will be multiple divs on the page with these classes. For some reason it's not working. Any ideas? It's what I want. But the question is, if I want to add another LI element to this string (htmlstr) how can I do? I set s = new html string but htmlstr doesn't change. Thanks

My home page and everything else gets shifted down to make room for Info page.   I'm building a calculator that has a slider. Everytime I slide the bar an input box is updated with the number, the calculator passes the value and updates the calculation. So my input boxes have dollar values that can range anywhere from $0 to $10,000. Right now my boxes display 0 to 10000 and I want them to be displayed as $0 to $10,000. I'm assuming jquery would be my best route here. How do I format an input box to display values like this. Sort of like an input mask. note: users never have to type into the input box, its all controlled by the slider.

• Too many jquery plugins?

  I'm developing a website, but I realized that, in addition to the link to my main javascript file, and the link to the jquery file, it's beginning to look like I'm going to have links to three or more plugins also. I'm just wondering if this is good practice? The site I'm building is a web app, so I need a lot of functionality, but I don't want to be a plugin glutton. Is it considered good to append all the javascript plugins together into one file so as to only have to download one file, or will I run into problems?

• Workaround for stopping propagation with live()?

  I've run into the problem that has been addressed here without a workaround: I can't use stopPropagation() on dynamically spawned elements. I've tried creating a condition to exclude a click within the dimensions of the spawned element, but that doesn't seem to work at all. Here is what I got: 1) a large background element ("canvas") that is activated to be "sensitive to clicks on it" by a button 2) the canvas, if activated, catches all clicks on it and spawns a small child form ("child") within it 3) the child is positioned relative to the mouse click position. If the mouse click was on the right half of the canvas, the child will be positioned 200 pixels to the left of that spot. (On the right if the click was in the left half) 4) every new click on the canvas removes the existing child (if any) and spawns a new child at the new position (relative to the click) The problem: Since the spawned child element is on top of the canvas, a click on it counts as a click on the canvas. Even if the child is outside of the boundaries of the canvas, clicking on it will trigger the action as described in 4) again . This shouldn't happen. =========== CODE: The button to activate the canvas: $('a#activate').click(function(event){ event.preventDefault(); canvasActive(); }); I referenced the above to show you that the canvas click-catching is happening in a function. Not sure if this is relevant...   I have a dropdown menu that pulls in text from a database column. The database column can include HTML mark-up. In the drop-down I obviously don't need that in the text. • jquery disable rule validation on a single field

  I am using mvc to create forms that are generated at runtime. For validation, I am trying my hand at the jquery validation library which is very convenient to use. I have the validation expression of each field in the cdata attribute of the tag <input type="text" name="xyz" id="xyz" class="defaultTextBox" cdata="{validate:{required:true, decimal:true, messages: {required:'Please enter an decimal value', decimal:'Please enter a valid decimal'}}}"> This works beautifully. Now one more requirement I have is that some fields are being shown and hidden according to the logic on the page and I need to disable the validation on the hidden fields such that they do not interfere with the form submission. Just toggling the required:true to false and back to true should be enough. Only i do not know how. Anyone has any experience with that?
