    I was searching around for questions related to Project Euler on Stack Overflow, and it seems that there were plenty of people asking about it, and even more people recommending it, whether for fun, to learn a new language, or to practice for interview questions. All this seems to imply to me that there are lots of people on SO that solve Project Euler problems now and then. I just started, so I was wondering: What was your favorite Project Euler question?   • How to create a web framework in C# without ASP?

    I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

    I have an localized string which needs to take a few variables. However, in localization it is important that the order of the variables can change from language to language. So this is not a good idea: NSString *text = NSLocalizedString(@"My birthday is at %@ %@ in %@", nil); In some languages some words come before others, while in others it's reverse. I lack of an good example for the moment. How would I provide NAMED variables in an formatted string? Is there any way to do it without some heavy self-made string replacements? Even some numbered variables like {%@1}, {%@2}, and so on would be sufficient... is there a solution?

  • Taxonomy terms are not translated in an exposed filters block

    Hi, in my view's exposed filters block the taxonomy terms are showed only in the original language version (in English). Vocabulary is set to Localize terms. The terms are translated via Translation Table. All the other content (Views, nodes, translated strings etc.) is showed correctly (in German). I'd expect them to appear in current language, however. Here for instance, I'd expect to have German Sommer 10 instead of English Summer 10. Do You have any idea how to solve it? I use Drupal 6 and Views 2.10

  • The importance of knowing c++ for web application development

    I'm a php developer and I want to broaden my knowledge base by learning a higher language (java, c#, c++). My specialty is in building web applications (ria etc). I'm trying to think of the appropriate path to take (hedging my bets so to speak) in terms of which language I should be focusing on. I love open source technology but at the same time C# seems to be getting a lot of notoriety. Despite the newer technologies available there still remains c++ which is the staple for many popular vendors including google and facebook (hip hop) in building scalable and robust cross platform apps. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I should be looking at this. Should I go Java, C# or C++). They all take time to master and I just want to choose a specialty. Thanks

  • Drupal's profile_save_profile Doesn't Work in hook_cron, When Run by the Server's cron

    I have a problem with the following implementation of hook_cron in Drupal 6.1.3. The script below runs exactly as expected: it sends a welcome letter to new members, and updates a hidden field in their profile to designate that the letter has been sent. There are no errors in the letter, all new members are accounted for, etc. The problem is that the last line -- updating the profile -- doesn't seem to work when Drupal cron is invoked by the 'real' cron on the server. When I run cron manually (such as via /admin/reports/status/run-cron) the profile fields get updated as expected. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?   • Best way to send floating point numbers from .NET to Java and back

    I'm writing a .NET application that will make an RPC call to a Java application (via a message queue). The data sent in both directions will be large arrays of floating-point numbers. What is the best way to serialize them to send them across the wire? I'd like something more compact than text, but architecture-independent as the server may not be an x86 machine.   • emacs local version control

    hello. I am wondering if there is local version control/snapshots for emacs independent of VC? let me clarify: every time I save buffer, I would like to be able to keep track of changes of each save in session. I know I can do something similar with backup files, but they are not automated like VC and a somewhat cumbersome. I have searched Google, but did not find the solution. This probably makes it a good language to write extremely obfuscated and hard to understand code in (in the style of The International Obfuscated C Code Contest).     Is there any way to implement globbing in git checkout? It would be great to be able to use git checkout re* or even to have tab completion in the shell. I'm using zsh, but an answer that is shell independent would be great. Note: I realize that this is kind of a pipe dream, so... if I needed to implement this myself, must it be done in the shell language itself, or could it be done in, say, Ruby?

  • How to extend the list of available Java Locales

    I am looking for a way to add more Locales to the Locales available in Java 1.6. But the Locales I want to create do not have ISO-3166 country codes, nor ISO-639 language codes. Is there any way to do this anyways? The Locales I want to add only differ in the language names, but the smaller an ethnic group is, the more picky they get about their identity ;-) So I thought about extending an existing Locale, something like UserDefinedLocale extends Locale { UserDefinedLocale (Locale parentLocale) {...} } but java.util.Locale is final, which makes it especially hard to hack something around... So, is the idea that the list of Java Locales is exhaustive? Am I the first to miss some more Locales?
