  • How to define an extern, C struct returning function in C++ using MSVC?

    The following source file will not compile with the MSVC compiler (v15.00.30729.01): /* stest.c */ #ifdef __cplusplus extern "C" { #endif struct Test; extern struct Test make_Test(int x); struct Test { int x; }; extern struct Test make_Test(int x) { struct Test r; r.x = x; return r; } #ifdef __cplusplus } #endif Compiling with cl /c /Tpstest.c produces the following error: stest.c(8) : error C2526: 'make_Test' : C linkage function cannot return C++ class 'Test' stest.c(6) : see declaration of 'Test' Compiling without /Tp (which tells cl to treat the file as C++) works fine. The file also compiles fine in DigitalMars C and GCC (from mingw) in both C and C++ modes. I also used -ansi -pedantic -Wall with GCC and it had no complaints. For reasons I will go into below, we need to compile this file as C++ for MSVC (not for the others), but with functions being compiled as C. In essence, we want a normal C compiler... except for about six lines. Is there a switch or attribute or something I can add that will allow this to work? The code in question (though not the above; that's just a reduced example) is being produced by a code generator. As part of this, we need to be able to generate floating point nans and infinities as constants (long story), meaning we have to compile with MSVC in C++ mode in order to actually do this. We only found one solution that works, and it only works in C++ mode. We're wrapping the code in extern "C" {...} because we want to control the mangling and calling convention so that we can interface with existing C code. ... also because I trust C++ compilers about as far as I could throw a smallish department store. I also tried wrapping just the reinterpret_cast line in extern "C++" {...}, but of course that doesn't work. Pity. There is a potential solution I found which requires reordering the declarations such that the full struct definition comes before the function foward decl., but this is very inconvenient due to the way the codegen is performed, so I'd really like to avoid having to go down that road if I can.

    I have a recursive function reading a "table of contents" of documents from a database. I would like to print numbering with the document that reflects where the item is in the tree, e.g. First item, 1.1 Child of first item, 1.1.1 Child of child of first item, 1.2 Child of first item, Second item, 2.1 Child of second item, etc. Rather stumped about this at the moment - help please?

  • Still failing a function, not sure why...ideas on test cases to run?

    I've been trying to get this Sudoku game working, and I am still failing some of the individual functions. All together the game works, but when I run it through an "autograder", some test cases fail.. Currently I am stuck on the following function, placeValue, failing. I do have the output that I get vs. what the correct one should be, but am confused..what is something going on? EDIT: I do not know what input/calls they make to the function. What happens is that "invalid row" is outputted after every placeValue call, and I can't trace why..   • Function that converts hex color values to an approximate color name?

    I don't suppose anyone knows of a function (PHP, preferably) that can take a hex color code and give an approximate color name for that hex value. I don't need a solution with 100s of colors. Even if it just amounted to the colors white, black, red, green blue, brown orange and yellow, I'd be pretty well in shape. If you don't know of an existing resource, does anyone know of a good way to approach this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

    I submit a (jsp) form to a Servlet A. Then I handle some logic which would make the submission either a success or a failure. I use jquery's ajaxForm() function to re-direct the user to a different jsp after the Servlet logic is executed. But before this redirection happens I need to show a javascript notification showing whether the submission was successful or not. Can someone tell me how can I do this?

  • Given a program's source code, what is a simple way to calculate the function points?

    For class, I was told to give a function point count for Mozilla Thunderbird, however I am absolutely stumped as to how to approach this. Some methods I saw online suggested analyzing the interface of the program itself, however they used very simple methods.     Firstly I used this call jQuery('#grid').jqGrid('editRow',id,true,pickdates);, it worked fine with UI Datepicker integration, but editRow is implemented for inline editing, but I prefer modal dialog, so I switched to editGridRow, now I can't find the way to call my custom function (pickdates) in onClick-event. But will there be a different (or easier way) to fix it? Is it as opposed to other languages, where using a { would start a new scope?
