• How to play audio through a bluetooth headset in Windows 7.

  I recently did an in-place upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 RTM. For the most part, things have went brilliantly. The only issue I've been facing is regarding my bluetooth headset, a Dell BH200. The laptop is an Inspiron 1720. I can get Windows 7 to pair with the headset, and even get the bluetooth settings to show that there is stereo audio available. The problem is that the bluetooth headset never shows up in my sound output devices list. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth drivers from Dell, tried turning on/off all of the features of the headset, removing the bluetooth driver and letting windows redetect and install but nothing has worked so far. I guess I should mention that the headset worked fine in Vista. Anyone have any ideas?

  I'm trying to setup a VPN on my local network, but everyone who connects to me DOES have access to my laptop but not to the internet or other devices on the network. How can I properly configure my VPN on windows to work correctly (giving internet + access to all devices on my network to the remote pc)? Or is there software on windows which makes creating a VPN server easier? or maybe a VMWare image linux vpn server? I can't find any of those! My requirement is that my friends don't have to install additional software, they have to be able to connect with default windows stuff. My OS is Windows 8 Standart edition (not pro or enterprise) OEM. Most of my friends have also windows 8, some windows 7.   I noticed that after I added the set show-all-if-ambiguous on line to my ~/.inputrc, whenever I pressed tab to indent a block, it would show me the bash Display all ... possibilities? (y or n) prompt, and leave me unable to indent the actual code. Is there any way to keep that line in my .inputrc but still have the tab key work as expected in the Python interpreter? This is in my VirtualBox Ubuntu 12.04 VM, if it matters. EDIT: Curiously, I now have a different issue with the Python shell that comes with Django -- when I press tab, I get Python tab completion, but only with one Tab press.   I am working on a web system currently and plans to heavily use javascript with ajax to make the user interface more friendlier, not fancy as such. The javascript will be used for client side form validation, data loading from server and creating proper content with the result, also to for floating windows during add/edit or external references. Here is a scenerio that could clearify my question. A user wants to update card but instead of jumping to another page to verify the available colors,size and prizes of product, those information are shown in a floating window and changes in the floating window can affect the underlying one. My question is : 1. What are some of the approaches to encounter this situation? 2. Are there any helpful tips, tricks and links on this subject? I am comfortable with js,php and zend.   How can I insert a video clip into a presentation created in Lyx? Have seen http://www.latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48. It works, but there the video starts in the background in an external player. I would prefer it to be played in the presentation itself. If an external player is used it it should at least start in the foreground. But the presentation takes the foreground. Using evince in GNU/linux as pdf viewer. Beamer is used as a presentation template. Is it possible to play a video file in an embedded player in the presentation itself? Created an example presentation. • How large a role does subjectiveness play in programming?

  I often read about the importance of readability and maintainability. Or, I read very strong opinions about which syntax features are bad or good. Or discussions about the values of certain paradigms, like OOP. Aside from that, this same question floats about in my mind whenever I read debates on SO or Meta about subjective questions. Or read questions about best practices and sometimes find myself or others disagreeing. What role does subjectiveness play within the programming realm? Sometimes I think it plays a large role. Software developers are engineers in a way, but also people. A large part of programming is dealing with code that's human readable. This is very different from Math or Physics or other disciplines with very exact and structured rules. Here the exact structure and rules are largely up in the air, changeable on a whim, and hence the amount of languages in existence. And one person may find one language very readable, and another person may find their own language the most comforting. The same with practices. One person may not like certain accepted practices. I myself find splitting classes into different files very unreadable, for instance. But, I can't say rules haven't helped in general. Certain practices have and do make life easier. And new languages have given rise to syntax and structure that make life easier. There's certainly been a progression towards code that is easier to read and maintain even given a largely diverse group of people. So maybe these things aren't as subjective as I thought. It reminds me, in a way, of UI design. Certainly it's subjective, but then there's an entire discipline involved in crafting good UI and it tends to work. Is there something non-subjective about the ideas behind maintainability, readability, and other best practices? Is there something tangible to grasp when one develops a new language or thinks of new practices?

• Added buttons, webview, added outlets, but can't play with them in the code...

  Hi! I made a toolbar with two buttons on it. I then created two outlets in my class controller. Then I hooked the the controller to the buttons and selected the outlets. Finally I rewritten the class files (that added: IBOutlet id next; IBOutlet id previous; to my .h file). So now, everything looks okay. But then I try somewhere in the code to change the state of one of my button like this: next.enabled = YES; I tried with self. too but unfortunately I receive this error message: error: request for member 'enabled' in something not a structure or union Do you have any idea of what's happening there? And yes I have: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> :) Using: [next setEnabled:YES]; gives me no error but still doesn't work... • How accurately (in terms of time) does Windows play audio?

  Let's say I play a stereo WAV file with 317,520,000 samples, which is theoretically 1 hour long. Assuming no interruptions of the playback, will the file finish playing in exactly one hour, or is there some occasional tiny variation in the playback speed such that it would be slightly more or slightly less (by some number of milliseconds) than one hour? I am trying to synchronize animation with audio, and I am using a System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch to keep the frames matching the audio. But if the playback speed of WAV audio in Windows can vary slightly over time, then the audio will drift out of sync with the Stopwatch-driven animation. Which leads to a second question: it appears that a Stopwatch - while highly granular and accurate for short durations - runs slightly fast. On my laptop, a Stopwatch run for exactly 24 hours (as measured by the computer's system time and a real stopwatch) shows an elapsed time of 24 hours plus about 5 seconds (not milliseconds). Is this a known problem with Stopwatch? (A related question would be "am I crazy?", but you can try it for yourself.) Given its usage as a diagnostics tool, I can see where a discrepancy like this would only show up when measuring long durations, for which most people would use something other than a Stopwatch. If I'm really lucky, then both Stopwatch and audio playback are driven by the same underlying mechanism, and thus will stay in sync with each other for days on end. Any chance this is true?

  The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. • How to install/configure ffmpeg to compress mp4 videos for flash player delivery?

  We have a flash web-app that created interactive video, and are using ffmpeg to do some compression/resizing when a user "publishes" their project. The user can upload flv files and mp4 files, both of which play fine in the Flash UI before publishing. After publishing the flv files work fine, but the mp4 files will not play in the flash player: Audio will play but video won't. The mp4 files will play fine if I download them and play them in the Quicktime player but if I attempt to open them in the Adobe Media Player it reports "The media file does not contain a supported video track". If I open the Movie inspector in quicktime it tells me that the original file is an "h264" video and the ffmpeg-processed ones are "mpeg-4". I have tried forcing it to h264 by adding flags like -f h264 and -vcodec h264 but I get a screenfull of errors (no frame, illegal POC type, sps_id out of range) ending with Could not find codec parameters (Video: h264) h264 will show up if I run ffmpeg -formats and ffmpeg -codecs, and as I said it will play fine in Quicktime. Is there anything else I need to do to convince the flash player to play them? Is there anything else I need to tell you about the server that will help?
