    Hi, I have the following LINQ query: List<string> Types = (List<string>) Directory.GetFiles(@"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727") Where(x => System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(x).Contains("Microsoft")) .ToList<string>(); How could I modify this so it can only get the values stored in a collection, without writing another LINQ query (which I assume will impact performance?)?     In some languages (ColdFusion comes to mind), you can run a query on the result set from a previous query. Is it possible to do something like that in php (with MySQL as the database)? I sort of want to do: $rs1 = do_query( "SELECT * FROM animals WHERE type = 'fish'" ); $rs2 = do_query( "SELECT * FROM rs1 WHERE name = 'trout'" );

Query 2: Find out total of sales of a particual salesman in all the regions. (if the first one is solved I think this will be easy. :-) )

  • Entity Framework Performance Inconsistency Compared to Sql Management Studio

    I'm getting timeouts with a very basic EF statement. I'm simply doing a select from a single table with a Entity.Title.StartsWith("test") and a .Take(25). When I run this for a search that returns no results I get a timeout. If I profile and grab the sql statement it looks fine, and if I run that sql in Management Studio it runs in a fraction of a second! Why would the same query run sub-second in Management Studio and timeout when generated by EF and called from an Asp.Net app?

    Hello I'm trying to make my mind on whether to store a binary representation of an entity as its Blob property, or whether I better keep the blobs in some separate 'wrapping' class. Possible impact on memory heap and/or a query execution time are my concerns in the first case, complexity votes against the other one. I know Blobs are not indexed, i.e. index size is not what I'm worrying about. Also I assume for blobs Datastore puts defaultFetchGroup to false, but does it mean that blobs don't make a difference in queries? Regards J. Záruba

    Given i have a class like so in my Data Layer public class GenericRepository<TEntity> where TEntity : class { [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethod(System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select)] public IQueryable<TEntity> SelectAll() { return DataContext.GetTable<TEntity>(); } } I would be able to query a table in my database like so from a higher layer using (GenericRepositry<MyTable> mytable = new GenericRepositry<MyTable>()) { var myresult = from m in mytable.SelectAll() where m.IsActive select m; } is this considerably slower than using the usual code in my Data Layer using (MyDataContext ctx = new MyDataContext()) { var myresult = from m in ctx.MyTable where m.IsActive select m; } Eliminating the need to write simple single table selects in the Data layer saves a lot of time, but will i regret it?
