  • How do I change Internet Explorer security settings for all users using Active Directory?

    I recently created an Intranet application for my company, but to work properly it must execute an ActiveX control to locally run a program. However, the only way I found for this to work was using Internet Explorer, and setting Intranet security to a personalized "very low" configuration for being able to execute ActiveX scripts without asking. I think there is a way to automatically configure IE's settings for all users from Active Directory, but I can't find it. Any help?

    I'm using psql to run a simple set of COPY statements contained in a file: psql -d mydb -f 'wbf_queries.data.sql' where wbf_queries.data.sql contains lines: copy <my_query> to '/home/gvkv/mydata' delimiter ',' null ''; ... but I get a permission denied error: ... ERROR: could not open file ... for writing: Permission denied I'm connecting under my user account (gvkv) which is also a superuser in PostgreSQL. Obviously, psql is running under a different (effective) user but I don't know how to change this. Can it be done within psql or do I need some unix-fu?

    When debugging browser-based apps using Google Chrome's Developer Tools, is there a way to change the locations of the various panes? E.g., the Watch Expressions, the Call Stack, the code pane, etc.? The defaults are okay (console at bottom, code pane upper left, a column of Watch Expressions, Call Stack, Scope Vars, etc. in the upper right), but I'd rather swap things around a bit of it's possible. There doesn't seem to be anything to grab (other than for sizing) and I haven't found a way in my searching so far, but there are (still) some things about Chrome's options that aren't ... well-advertised in the UI, shall we say :-), especially around developer tools.

    I have a dropdown field with two values in a form I am creating. The expected data in cell D15 changes depending on the selection. If Option A is selected then a dollar amount is expected. If option B is selected that a percentage is expected. I would like the cell to be formatted as 'accounting' w/ zero decimals for option A and 'percentage' with zero decimals if option B is selected. I do not want to use VBA, if possible. I'm hoping there is a custom formatting solution.

  • Why can't untrusted code change the log level under Java Logging?

    I'm have a Java app that also runs as an applet. The app also happens to use a library called BasicPlayer to play .ogg files. BasicPlayer has a built-in logger that uses Apache Logging Commons to create a logger for BasicPlayer.class using the built-in Java logger. The only way that I know about to turn off the BasicPlayer logging is to run this code: Logger.getLogger(BasicPlayer.class.getName()).setLevel(Level.OFF); This works fine when running as a regular app. However, when running as an applet, this code will throw a SecurityException because for some reason applets can't change the log level of non-anonymous loggers (see here for a sorta-explanation). Why would they do this? Who cares if an applet changes the log level?

    I want to restrict the access for everything inside the work directory to me and the system only. I tried this with the following command: cacls.exe work /t /p 'PIXLA09\Maaartin:f' 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM':f However it doesn't work at all. The following command should show only the two specified users but instead shows a very long list of permissions: cacls.exe work/somedirectory I tried to use /g instead of /p, too. Since I didn't use /e the permissions shouldn't get edited but replaced. Any ideas what's wrong?

    Hi, I'm currently working on a very simple aplication, and I intended to make it change the visual aspect depending on the screen size. The application just has 6 buttons like this: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e1efb4c4d0.jpg I'm using the AbsoluteLayout, and changing the x and y of the buttons with the methods offsetLeftAndRight and offsetTopAndBottom. I'm not changing the layout of the buttons in the xml file, so the all start in the same place. However, if I use this methods inside the onClickMethod they sometimes appear where I want them, sometimes don't (can't figure out why), but if i use them in the onCreate method, nothing happens. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

    The end goal here is that I am trying to install an Oracle 10g server on my Windows 7 x64 dev box. I use DHCP, and the Oracle installer is throwing up this warning: Checking Network Configuration requirements ... Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<< Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned. Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP. I have installed the loopback adapter, but I am not sure how to make it the primary network adapter. I see this Microsoft KB article on the subject but it's Windows XP-oriented, and I can't seem to find a comparable one for Windows 7. Some of the options it talks about don't seem to be present in the views of the adapters that I see. So, how can I make the loopback adapter become the primary adapter?

I have a samba account created already named nobody to allow access to the share. However every time I try to write I get access denied error. fstab: /dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2 vfat defaults 0 0 Further more every time I try to chmod 777 /tmp/mnt/sda2 the permissions are not changed, and no error is produced. They stay 755. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 4 01:49 sda2 Basically; how can I give the user nobody write permissions to my mount? dev name: /dev/sda2 dev mount: /tmp/mnt/sda2

  • External HDD incorrectly detected as internal - how change to enable hot swap/eject?

    Hi All, I have win 7 x64 Home Prem. The HDD is a seagate barracuda, 7200.7 ST3120827AS. 3.5", Serial: 3ms006n6, Firmware: 3.42 (no further updates) NexStar CX External case (drivers installed). I have three drives: WD320 with OS installed WD750 data storage (internal) seagate 120 (external) - connected via esata board connected to sata on motherboard (MSI p43 neo) Tried uninstalling HDD in device manager to no effect. Also the internal WD750 is detected as an external drive and win taskbar icon allows for it to be ejected (unlike the seagate). All drives are configured - Online, Simple, Basic, NTFS, Active, Primary Partition (except c drive). The seagate was previously used as a primary disk with XP operating system so I deleted the volume and created/reformatted (not quick). HDD is no longer "Active". But did not fix problem. Background Originally, I installed win 7 with the bios set to IDE and forgot to install the chipset drivers. Then I changed win 7 to install the AHCI drivers, changed the bios to AHCI and rebooted. Win 7 loaded drivers but WD HDD gave problems/crashed. I installed chipset drivers and latest intell storage matrix software thingie (in safe mode). Everything worked fine after that except for the problem of not corrrectly detecting the external drive] I have noticed that under the driver properties (and similarly in the registry) the two drives are configured differently (e.g. in driver details property capabilities for the WD the value is set to 0000006, CM_DEVCAP_REMOVABLE & EJECTSUPPORTED - whereas the seagate shows 0000080 & CM_DEVCAP_SURPRISEREMOVALOK). Any easy way to configure things?     I have a program that depends on a shared library it expects to find deep inside a directory structure. I'd like to move that shared library out and into a better place. On OS X, this can be done with install_name_tool. I'm unable to find an equivalent for Linux. For reference, readelf -d myprogram spits out the following paraphrased output: Dynamic section at offset 0x1e9ed4 contains 30 entries: Tag Type Name/Value 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [this/is/terrible/library.so] 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libGL.so.1] 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libGLU.so.1] 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libstdc++.so.6] and I would like to errata "this/is/terrible/library.so" to be "shared/library.so". I know about RPATH and it isn't what I'm looking for, I don't need to change search paths globally.

Since changing this def in the source is worse than changing conf, I was wondering if there was a way to pass in customized defs you make like passing in initial arguments in forms? Given that this is known to cause issues when restoring snapshots of domain-joined virtual machines, is it possible to query the domain-joined computer or AD to determine when the machine account password is next scheduled to be changed?
