  • Dns caching for sockets

    - by Poma
    I'm connecting to some websites through socks proxy server. In my case its very good to implement dns cache, so proxy don't need to resolve website's ip address. So, I performed DNS lookup, but don't know where to supply IP address. mySocket.Connect uses proxy's ip address so it isn't right place. I tried to place it in http header GET http://11.22.33.44/index.html HTTP/1.1 - this doesn't work (even in browser) since website is on virtual hosting. It seems that Host header is right place for resolved ip address. Am I right? Will proxy resolve host name (since it's still there in GET header) or not?

  • CORBA Naming Service returns incorrect location of a registered object

    - by dave-keiture
    Hi experts, I have a simple setup with several objects registered at orbd. Remote client initializes connection to the ORB and tries to resolve a reference to the Naming Serice (IDL:omg.org/CosNaming/NamingContextExt:1.0). So far it's all fine - ORB returns giop.iiop.host/giop.iiop.port pair. When reference to the Naming Service is resolved, client tries to resolve_str() one of the registered objects. This time, Naming Service returns completely different pair giop.iiop.host/giop.iiop.port for the object (not the host/port of a Naming Service) - I don't know anything about them. When client tries to call a method on a resolved object, it fails, as the host/port pair is not configured in the firewall. Could you please explain, why it's happening? Thanks in advance!

  • Malware - Technical anlaysis

    - by nullptr
    Note: Please do not mod down or close. Im not a stupid PC user asking to fix my pc problem. I am intrigued and am having a deep technical look at whats going on. I have come across a Windows XP machine that is sending unwanted p2p traffic. I have done a 'netstat -b' command and explorer.exe is sending out the traffic. When I kill this process the traffic stops and obviously Windows Explorer dies. Here is the header of the stream from the Wireshark dump (x.x.x.x) is the machines IP. GNUTELLA CONNECT/0.6 Listen-IP: x.x.x.x:8059 Remote-IP: 76.164.224.103 User-Agent: LimeWire/5.3.6 X-Requeries: false X-Ultrapeer: True X-Degree: 32 X-Query-Routing: 0.1 X-Ultrapeer-Query-Routing: 0.1 X-Max-TTL: 3 X-Dynamic-Querying: 0.1 X-Locale-Pref: en GGEP: 0.5 Bye-Packet: 0.1 GNUTELLA/0.6 200 OK Pong-Caching: 0.1 X-Ultrapeer-Needed: false Accept-Encoding: deflate X-Requeries: false X-Locale-Pref: en X-Guess: 0.1 X-Max-TTL: 3 Vendor-Message: 0.2 X-Ultrapeer-Query-Routing: 0.1 X-Query-Routing: 0.1 Listen-IP: 76.164.224.103:15649 X-Ext-Probes: 0.1 Remote-IP: x.x.x.x GGEP: 0.5 X-Dynamic-Querying: 0.1 X-Degree: 32 User-Agent: LimeWire/4.18.7 X-Ultrapeer: True X-Try-Ultrapeers: 121.54.32.36:3279,173.19.233.80:3714,65.182.97.15:5807,115.147.231.81:9751,72.134.30.181:15810,71.59.97.180:24295,74.76.84.250:25497,96.234.62.221:32344,69.44.246.38:42254,98.199.75.23:51230 GNUTELLA/0.6 200 OK So it seems that the malware has hooked into explorer.exe and hidden its self quite well as a Norton Scan doesn't pick anything up. I have looked in Windows firewall and it shouldn't be letting this traffic through. I have had a look into the messages explorer.exe is sending in Spy++ and the only related ones I can see are socket connections etc... My question is what can I do to look into this deeper? What does malware achieve by sending p2p traffic? I know to fix the problem the easiest way is to reinstall Windows but I want to get to the bottom of it first, just out of interest.

  • GPIB connection to external device using MATLAB

    - by hkf
    Is there a way to establish a GPIB connection using MATLAB without the instrument control Tool box? (I don't have it). Also is there a way for MATLAB to know what the external device's RS232 parameter values are ( Baud rate, stop bit etc..). For the RS232 connection I have the following code: % This function is meant to send commands to Potentiostat Model 263A. % A run includes turning the cell on, reading current for time t1, turning % the cell off, waiting for time t2. % t1 is the duration [secs] for which the Potentiostat must run (cell is on) % t2 is the duration [secs] to on after off % n is the number of runs % port is the serial port name such as COM1 function [s] = Potentiostat_control(t1,t2,n) port = input('type port name such as COM1', 's') s = serial(port); set(s,'BaudRate', 9600, 'DataBits', 8, 'Parity', 'even', 'StopBits', 2 ,'Terminator', 'CR/LF'); fopen(s) %fprintf(s,'RS232?') disp(['Total runs requested = ' num2str(n)]) disp('i denotes number of runs executed so far..'); for i=1:n i %data1 = query(s, '*IDN?') fprintf(s,'%s','CELL 1'); % sends the command 'CELL 1' %fprintf(s,'%s','READI'); pause(t1); fprintf(s,'%s','CELL 0'); %fprintf(s,'%s','CLEAR'); pause(t2); end fclose(s)

  • Need help configurating my Tomcat server

    I just reinstalled my entire server, and now I can't seem to get my JSP-based website to work on Tomcat anymore. • undefined reference to function, despite giving reference in c

    - by Jamie Edwards
    I'm following a tutorial, but when it comes to compiling and linking the code I get the following error: /tmp/cc8gRrVZ.o: In function `main': main.c:(.text+0xa): undefined reference to `monitor_clear' main.c:(.text+0x16): undefined reference to `monitor_write' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [obj/main.o] Error 1 What that is telling me is that I haven't defined both 'monitor_clear' and 'monitor_write'. But I have, in both the header and source files. They are as follows: monitor.c: // monitor.c -- Defines functions for writing to the monitor. // heavily based on Bran's kernel development tutorials, // but rewritten for JamesM's kernel tutorials. #include "monitor.h" // The VGA framebuffer starts at 0xB8000. u16int *video_memory = (u16int *)0xB8000; // Stores the cursor position. u8int cursor_x = 0; u8int cursor_y = 0; // Updates the hardware cursor. static void move_cursor() { // The screen is 80 characters wide... u16int cursorLocation = cursor_y * 80 + cursor_x; outb(0x3D4, 14); // Tell the VGA board we are setting the high cursor byte. outb(0x3D5, cursorLocation >> 8); // Send the high cursor byte. outb(0x3D4, 15); // Tell the VGA board we are setting the low cursor byte. outb(0x3D5, cursorLocation); // Send the low cursor byte. } // Scrolls the text on the screen up by one line. static void scroll() { // Get a space character with the default colour attributes. u8int attributeByte = (0 /*black*/ << 4) | (15 /*white*/ & 0x0F); u16int blank = 0x20 /* space */ | (attributeByte << 8); // Row 25 is the end, this means we need to scroll up if(cursor_y >= 25) { // Move the current text chunk that makes up the screen // back in the buffer by a line int i; for (i = 0*80; i < 24*80; i++) { video_memory[i] = video_memory[i+80]; } // The last line should now be blank. • How to flush DNS cache in Windows Mobile programmatically?

    - by Bounded
    Hello, My windows mobile application (written in C# with the compact framework) needs to know if a particular machine is active or not. To achieve this goal, I thought to use a ping mechanism. I tried to use the Ping class implemented in the opennetcf framework (the System.Net.NetworkInformation.Ping class for the .NET Framework is not part of the compact framework). Because I give to the Ping.Send function a host name, it first tries to resolve this host name and to retrieve an IP address. But i observe the following problem : If the first dns resolution fails (because the network is down at this moment), and if the application tries immediately again to send the ping, it fails too, even if the network is note down anymore. I check with a famous network protocol analyzer and i saw that only the requests concerning the first dns resolution are sent. The requests concerning the dns resolution of the second ping are not sent. Why is the second dns request not sent ? Is there any dns cache mechanism on such Windows Mobile devices ? If yes, can this mechanism beeing flushed programmatically ? EDIT : I gave up finding a solution to this DNS flush. I chose to ping an IP adress instead of a name machine. The problem of pinging an hard coded adress IP is that we have to be 100% sure that this IP will not change. The gateway IP can be used because it's always reachable (if it does not, it means the network is down).

  • How does the socket API accept() function work?

    - by Eli Bendersky
    The socket API is the de-facto standard for TCP/IP and UDP/IP communications (that is, networking code as we know it). However, one of its core functions, accept() is a bit magical. To borrow a semi-formal definition: accept() is used on the server side. It accepts a received incoming attempt to create a new TCP connection from the remote client, and creates a new socket associated with the socket address pair of this connection. In other words, accept returns a new socket through which the server can communicate with the newly connected client. The old socket (on which accept was called) stays open, on the same port, listening for new connections. How does accept work? How is it implemented? There's a lot of confusion on this topic. Many people claim accept opens a new port and you communicate with the client through it. But this obviously isn't true, as no new port is opened. You actually can communicate through the same port with different clients, but how? When several threads call recv on the same port, how does the data know where to go? I guess it's something along the lines of the client's address being associated with a socket descriptor, and whenever data comes through recv it's routed to the correct socket, but I'm not sure. It'd be great to get a thorough explanation of the inner-workings of this mechanism.

Here is how I set up my server: import java.io.IOException; import java.net.ServerSocket; import java.net.Socket; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.HashMap; import javax.net.ServerSocketFactory; import javax.net.ssl.SSLServerSocket; import javax.net.ssl.SSLServerSocketFactory; import org.json.me.JSONException; import dictionary.Dictionary; public class Server { private static int port = 1234; public static void main(String[] args) throws JSONException { System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "src/my.keystore"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "test123"); System.out.println("Starting server on port: " + port); HashMap<String, Game> games = new HashMap<String, Game>(); final String[] enabledCipherSuites = { "SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA" }; try{ SSLServerSocketFactory socketFactory = (SSLServerSocketFactory) SSLServerSocketFactory.getDefault(); SSLServerSocket listener = (SSLServerSocket) socketFactory.createServerSocket(port); listener.setEnabledCipherSuites(enabledCipherSuites); Socket server; Dictionary dict = new Dictionary(); Game game = new Game(dict); //for testing, creates 1 global game. while(true){ server = listener.accept(); ClientConnection conn = new ClientConnection(server, game, "User"); Thread t = new Thread(conn); t.start(); } } catch(IOException e){ System.out.println("Failed setting up on port: " + port); e.printStackTrace(); } } } I used a BufferedReader to get the data send from the client: BufferedReader d = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream())); After the handshake is complete it appears like I'm getting encrypted data. I did some research online and it seems like I might need to use a Cipher, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

  • Sockets, Threads and Services in android, how to make them work together ?

    - by Spredzy
    Hi all, I am facing a probleme with threads and sockets I cant figure it out, if someone can help me please i would really appreciate. There are the facts : I have a service class NetworkService, inside this class I have a Socket attribute. I would like it be at the state of connected for the whole lifecycle of the service. To connect the socket I do it in a thread, so if the server has to timeout, it would not block my UI thread. Problem is, into the thread where I connect my socket everything is fine, it is connected and I can talk to my server, once this thread is over and I try to reuse the socket, in another thread, I have the error message Socket is not connected. Questions are : - Is the socket automatically disconnected at the end of the thread? - Is their anyway we can pass back a value from a called thread to the caller ? Thanks a lot, Here is my code public class NetworkService extends Service { private Socket mSocket = new Socket(); private void _connectSocket(String addr, int port) { Runnable connect = new connectSocket(this.mSocket, addr, port); new Thread(connect).start(); } private void _authentification() { Runnable auth = new authentification(); new Thread(auth).start(); } private INetwork.Stub mBinder = new INetwork.Stub() { @Override public int doConnect(String addr, int port) throws RemoteException { _connectSocket(addr, port); _authentification(); return 0; } }; class connectSocket implements Runnable { String addrSocket; int portSocket; int TIMEOUT=5000; public connectSocket(String addr, int port) { addrSocket = addr; portSocket = port; } @Override public void run() { SocketAddress socketAddress = new InetSocketAddress(addrSocket, portSocket); try { mSocket.connect(socketAddress, TIMEOUT); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(mSocket.getOutputStream(), true); out.println("test42"); Log.i("connectSocket()", "Connection Succesful"); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("connectSocket()", e.getMessage()); e.printStackTrace(); } } } class authentification implements Runnable { private String constructFirstConnectQuery() { String query = "toto"; return query; } @Override public void run() { BufferedReader in; PrintWriter out; String line = ""; try { in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(mSocket.getInputStream())); out = new PrintWriter(mSocket.getOutputStream(), true); out.println(constructFirstConnectQuery()); while (mSocket.isConnected()) { line = in.readLine(); Log.e("LINE", "[Current]- " + line); } } catch (IOException e) {e.printStackTrace();} } }

  • Parameters with dots on the URI

    - by robertokl
    In my application, there is a resource, machine, and a nested resource from machine: ip. I want to be able to access the URI of an Ip typing the ip address. The URI should be something like this: /machines/m123/ips/192.168.0.1.xml Where "m123" is the name of the machine and "192.168.0.1" is one of the ips of that machine. The problem here is that rails miss understand the dots from the ip and the format. When I try to access this page, i get: No route matches "/machines/m123/ips/192.168.0.1.xml" And if I replace the dots for any other character it works, witch means that rails isn't handling the dots on the URI. Is there any way to enter a more complex regexp on the routes to make sure rails can treat it the way I want? I'm using rails 2.3.5 and ruby 1.8.7. Thank you.

  • Socket read() hangs for a while when there is no data to read.

    - by janesconference
    Hi' I'm writing a simple http port forwarder. I read data from port 80, and pass the data to my lighttpd server, on port 8080. As long as I write() data on the socket on port 8080 (forwarding the request) there's no problem, but when I read() data from that socket (forwarding the response), the last read() hangs a lot (about 1 or 2 seconds) before realizing there's no more data and returning 0. I tried to set the socket to non-blocking, but this doesn't work, as sometimes it returns EWOULDBLOCKING even if there's some data left (lighttpd + cgi can be quite slow). I tried to set a timeout with select(), but, as above, a slow cgi could timeout the socket when there's actually some data to transmit. How would you do?

  • Setting variables in shell script by running commands

    >cat /tmp/list1 john jack >cat /tmp/list2 smith taylor It is guaranteed that list1 and list2 will have equal number of lines. f(){ i=1 while read line do var1 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list1` var2 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list2` echo $i,$var1,$var2 i=`expr $i+1` echo $i,$var1,$var2 done < $INFILE } So output of f() should be: 1,john,smith 2,jack,taylor But getting 1,p,p 1+1,p,p If i replace following: var1 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list1` var2 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list2` with this: var1=`head -$i /tmp/vip_list|tail -1` var2=`head -$i /tmp/lb_list|tail -1` Then output: 1,john,smith 1,john,smith Not an expert of shell, so please excuse if sounds childish :)

  • Prepopulate drop-box according to another drop-box choice in Django Admin

    - by onorua
    I have models like this: class User(models.Model): Switch = models.ForeignKey(Switch, related_name='SwitchUsers') Port = models.ForeignKey(Port) class Switch(models.Model): Name = models.CharField(max_length=50) class Port(models.Model): PortNum = models.PositiveIntegerField() Switch = models.ForeignKey(Switch, related_name = "Ports") When I'm in Admin interface and choose Switch from Switches available, I would like to have Port prepopulated accordingly with Ports from the related Switch. As far as I understand I need to create some JS script to prepopulate it. Unfortunately I don't have this experience, and I would like to keep things simple as it possible and don't rewrite all Django admin interface. Just add this functionality for one Field. Could you please help me with my problem? Thank you.

    Hi, I am using an HP RS232 pole display with the following setting: Char type: USA/Europe (default) Command mode: EPSON (default) Baud rate: 9600, n , 8, 1 (default?) Passthru None (Default) Here's the code using System.IO.Ports; private SerialPort port; port = new SerialPort("COM2", 9600, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One); port.Handshake = Handshake.None; Port.WriteLine("Welocome to something something"); It has 2 lines consisting of 20 characters each with a total of 40 characters. I have no control how and where the characters get displayed. I have set it to accept ASCII char set and so I am able to type as is visble in the Writeline message

  • Close TCP connection when owner process is already killed

    - by Otiel
    I have a Windows service that - when it starts - opens some WCF services to listen on the 8000 port. It happens that this service crashes sometimes. When it does, the TCP connection is not released, thus causing my service to throw an exception if I try to start it again: AddressAlreadyInUseException: There is already a listener on IP endpoint 0.0.0.0:8000 Some observations: When running CurrPorts or netstat -ano, I can see that the 8000 port is still in use (in LISTENING state) and is owned by the Process ID XXX that corresponded to my service process ID. But my service has already crashed, and does not appear in the Task Manager anymore. Thus I can't kill the process to free the port! Of course, running taskkill /PID XXX returns: ERROR: The process "XXX" not found. When running CurrPorts or netstat -b, I can see that the process name involved in creating the listening port is System, and not as MyService.exe (whereas it is MyService.exe when my service is running). I tried to use CurrPorts to close the connection, but I always get the following error message: Failed to close one or more TCP connections. Be aware that you must run this tool as admin in order to close TCP connections. (Useless to say, I do run CurrPorts as Administrator...) TCPView is not much help either: the process name associated to the 8000 port is <non-existent>, and doing "End process" or "Close connection" has no effect. I tried to see if there was not a child process associated with the PID XXX using Process Explorer, but no luck here. If I close my service properly (before it crashes), the TCP connection is correctly released. This is normal, as I close the WCF service hosts in the OnStop() event of my service. The only way I found to release the connection is to restart the server (which is not convenient in a production environment as you can guess). Waiting does not help, the TCP connection is never released. How can I close the connection without restarting the Windows server? PS: found some questions extremely similar to mine.

  • boost::asio::async_resolve Problem

    - by Moo-Juice
    Hi All, I'm in the process of constructing a Socket class that uses boost::asio. To start with, I made a connect method that took a host and a port and resolved it to an IP address. This worked well, so I decided to look in to async_resolve. However, my callback always gets an error code of 995 (using the same destination host/port as when it worked synchronously). code: Function that starts the resolution: // resolve a host asynchronously template<typename ResolveHandler> void resolveHost(const String& _host, Port _port, ResolveHandler _handler) const { boost::asio::ip::tcp::endpoint ret; boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver::query query(_host, boost::lexical_cast<std::string>(_port)); boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver r(m_IOService); r.async_resolve(query, _handler); }; // eo resolveHost Code that calls this function: void Socket::connect(const String& _host, Port _port) { // Anon function for resolution of the host-name and asynchronous calling of the above auto anonResolve = [this](const boost::system::error_code& _errorCode, boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver_iterator _epIt) { // raise event onResolve.raise(SocketResolveEventArgs(*this, !_errorCode ? (*_epIt).host_name() : String(""), _errorCode)); // perform connect, calling back to anonymous function if(!_errorCode) connect(*_epIt); }; // Resolve the host calling back to anonymous function Root::instance().resolveHost(_host, _port, anonResolve); }; // eo connect The message() function of the error_code is: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request And my main.cpp looks like this: int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { morse::Root root; TextSocket s; s.connect("somehost.com", 1234); while(true) { root.performIO(); // calls io_service::run_one() } return 0; } Thanks in advance!

  • slow DNS resolution

    - by Ehsan
    I have a DNS server that resolves all queries for an internal group of servers. It is a bind on CentOS 5.5 (same as RHEL5) and I have set it up to allow recursion and resolve direction without any forwarders. The problem I am facing is that it takes a freakishly long amount of time to resolve a name for the first time. (in the magnitudes of 20 sec) This causes clients to give timeout. When I set it to forward all to Google's public DNS, i.e. 8.8.8.8+8.8.4.4, it works very nicely (within a second). I tried monitoring the traffic on the net to see why it is doing this: [root@ns1 ~]# tcpdump -nnvvvA -s0 udp tcpdump: listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 23:06:36.137797 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 35903, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 60) 172.17.1.10.36942 > 172.17.1.4.53: [udp sum ok] 19773+ A? www.paypal.com. E.g. dig www.paypal.com @192.35.51.30 works perfectly, consistently, and very fast. What do you think about this mystery?

  • Connecting Java se Client to Glassfish

    - by Henrik Bierbum Bacher
    We are having some difficulties connecting our Java SE standalone client with the EJB module deployed on a remote GlassFish server. Pointers to how we are supposed to connect our client would be appreciated. The client code we currently has to get the initial context: props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "*remotehost*"); props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "portNumber"); javax.naming.InitialContext ic = new javax.naming.InitialContext(props); *We have tried several different port numbers; 3700, 7676, 8080.. The closest we are getting, got us the error: "Error in GIOP magic". I read that jms are using port 7676 as a broker port for a bunch of dynamically generated ports, but can't figure out how to specify those ports in order to create proper port-forwards.

  • linux raw socket programming question

    - by user194420
    Hi all, I am trying to create a raw socket which send and receive message with ip/tcp header under linux. I can successfully binds to a port and receive tcp message(ie:syn) However, the message seems to be handled by the os, but not mine. I am just a reader of it(like wireshark). My raw socket binds to port 8888, and then i try to telnet to that port . In wireshark, it shows that the port 8888 reply a "rst ack" when it receive the "syn" request. In my program, it shows that it receive a new message and it doesnot reply with any message. Any way to actually binds to that port?(prevent os handle it) Here is part of my code, i try to cut those error checking for easy reading sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_RAW, IPPROTO_TCP); int tmp = 1; const int *val = &tmp; setsockopt (sockfd, IPPROTO_IP, IP_HDRINCL, val, sizeof (tmp)); servaddr.sin_family = AF_INET; servaddr.sin_addr.s_addr = htonl(INADDR_ANY); servaddr.sin_port = htons(8888); bind(sockfd, (struct sockaddr*)&servaddr, sizeof(servaddr)); //call recv in loop
