• MySQL Server - Got error -1 from storage engine

  I am currently trying to restore a MySQL table from the .ibd file. I have been following the instructions on the MySQL reference manual on how to use DISCARD and IMPORT TABLESPACE to replace the .idb files. Discarding the tablespace returns no error and the file is deleted however IMPORTING the replacement .ibd file yields a "Got error -1 from storage engine" error. There doesn't seem to be too much information about what exactly an error -1 is. Does anybody have any further insight as to why an import table space isn't working?

• Using MRTG's threshold feature to execute a php script

  I've set up mrtg using the online manual and the only online tutorial I found on the subject of thresholds, and the threshold just isn't firing. In my mrtg.cfg file, the relevant lines are ThreshDir: /path/to/mrtg/thresh ThreshMaxI[performance]: 1 ThreshMaxO[performance]: 1 ThreshProgI[performance]: /path/to/mrtg/scripts/alert.php ThreshProgO[performance]: /path/to/mrtg/scripts/alert.php The paths are right, because if I enter the paths wrong I get an error on executing mrtg. websitePerformance checks how long it takes to download the homepage, in milliseconds, so it should be exceeding the max every time. Alert.php is working fine when invoked directly from the shell, and when I point to a nonexistent script it tells me the script is not executable. No error messages are being generated, that I can find. The thresh directory is always empty. Why isn't the threshold being triggered by results that are greater than 1? Anyone have any suggestions?

• Can I rename a file that is open on Windows XP?

  I want to programatically rename a file and it could be open. It's a log file. When I was testing my code the rename part didn't work because the log file TestPro.log was open by the TAF (Test Automation Framework). When TestPro is running and I try to delete the file I get the error "Cannot delete because is being used by another person or program." Is there any way how to rename a file (programatically) that is open the way the log file was?

• What is the simplest way to confirm or to disprove that Virtual Box virtual machines support GRE protocol

  It is stated in VirtualBox manual (chapter 6) that VM network interfaces in "NAT" mode do not support GRE protocol. I'm currently trying to setup a pair of VMs as pptp server and client which would communicate via VM's network interfaces in "INTERNAL NETWORK" mode. I set up modern Linux OSes with pptp software on both machines and made some basic pptp configuration. However, I fail to connect the client to the server - server reports a failure when writing to GRE socket. I now need a quick proof of principal ability to use the GRE protocol between VirtualBox VMs over a network in "INTERNAL" mode, such as a several-line .c program that would try to open/send/receive/close a GRE protocol connection, or like a specific lightweight tool to diagnose the GRE availability. Any suggestions?

• using nmap to guess remote OS and probe service details on a single port only

  I am looking at scanning with nmap a large network in order to identify the OS of devices (-O--osscan-limit) probe for details of a service on a single port (I would have used -sV for all open ports) The problem is that -sV will probe all the ports (which I do not want to do for performance reasons) and I cannot use -p to limit the ports to the one I am interested in as this impacts the OS fingerprinting. I could not find anything in the manual to limit the service probing. Thank you for any ideas (including other approaches outside of nmap, though I would prefer to stick to nmap)

• How to disable a McAfee service?

  I am trying to disable a McAfee Real-Time Protection service, but if I go into Services/Properties, then try to set it to Manual or Disable - it says that unable to open service McShield for writing on Local Computer. Error 5. Access is denied. I've tried logging in as an Admin, to no avail. I've tried resetting permissions in the registry to the key where the McAfee service is described...nothing helped. Logging in with Safe Mode did not help either. How can I disable this service? Is there a way to disable a service before even getting into Windows? P.S. Uninstalling McAfee is not an option.

  On http://www.whynopadlock.com/check.php whilst testing the following url https://www.bobclubs.com/pay I get the following message:- ERROR: cannot verify www.bobclubs.com's certificate, issued by `/C=US/O=GeoTrust, Inc./CN=RapidSSL CA': Unable to locally verify the issuer's authority. I am not 100 sure why this is as all issuer is OK, all items are secure and I get a padlock on all browsers. Can any one shed some light on this?

  Hi, I have a MySQL database installed on a OpenSuse 11.1 server (it is a Bitnami image). The database works fine, it can stay many days without any error, but when MySQL receives a huge amount of transactions, it dies immediately. The next screen shows the error: Moreover, I don't know how to restart MySQL. I have tried this: /opt/bitnami/mysql/bin/mysqld start But it doesn't work, that gives me the next output: 110209 17:09:01 [ERROR] Fatal error: Please read "Security" section of the manual to find out how to run mysqld as root! 110209 17:09:01 [ERROR] Aborting 110209 17:09:01 [Note] /opt/bitnami/mysql/bin/mysqld.bin: Shutdown complete It doesn't matter which kind of statements are executing, if they are a huge amount, MySQL dies. • ESXi v5.5 is having random crashes

  HW: Type: HP Proliant ML350 G5 RAM 22GB CPU 1 x Intel Xenon E5405 2.00GHz OP: ESXi 5.5 just updated from 5.1 to try and fix the crashes occurring on ESXi 5.1 on same hardware. I'm trying to find the error on why one of our servers is crashing, it has had two lock ups in 24 hours now. The internal error light on the front is blinking red, on the inside only "#5 and #6 page 76 manual" the "Processor 2" light "amber" and the "Power" light "green" is shining. in the logs the only errors i can see in the relevant time frame is in log under.   Hi, Has anyone got the google calender sync (http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955) to work on Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2007? I have set up 2 way sync but it only seems to sync from my gmail calender to outlook calender. If I make an appointment in my outlook calender, it doesn't show up in gmail calender. I tried running it as admin, but no joy. I also tried running it in compatablity mode (XP service pack 3). But it still gives me an error when i do a manual Sync that says "Could not connect to microsoft outlook. error -2146959355" Thanks in advance.

Since the toolbar is enabled by right clicking on the toolbar area, when it's disabled, it's not obvious how to reenable it.   I need the name of the screw for the HP quick deploy rail kit. The screw clicks into the square holes of the rack. It is a Gen4 Rail kit but the screw is like the Gen8 Rail kit ones. I called HP support, but they couldn't really help me. Unfortunately the rack manual does not name this screw either. After googling a while, I found the compatible "Thumb Style Rack Screws". It would do the job but isn't exactly what I am looking for. So, what is the name of the pictured screw.

  Okay. Im using the feared x64 Win7 retail. I tried soooo many clients/methods, but none of them worked. Finally after a long battle, I made TGB working. YAY! I only have problems with the configuration. What data I've got? group auth user+pw;3DES enc(saw it from the router cfg);user+password. And that's all. I tried using the TGB provided manual and the howtos on their site, but there is no instruction for the given model, and the other cisco type conf wont work.) • How can Nagios handle non-threshold based plugins?

  I am writing a Nagios plugin to monitor trends of a certain storage resource utilization (e.g. gradual increases are fine, but an instantaneous/sudden increase or decrease in resource usage may indicate a problem). For what it's worth, it is reviewing the last N entries in an RRD file generated by a custom cacti data source/templates. What is the "right" way to handle Nagios notification config/implementation for this? The problem is that it the plugin would exit as warning/critical for one polling period, but in the next it would be fine (or 3 polling periods later, if I look at 3 polling periods worth of data). I guess the question is: should I just write it in such a way that it will alert for X polling periods, or should I find a way to write it such that manual intervention is required for it to clear (such as logging into the monitoring server or hitting a URL to run a script that submits a passive result)? Your input is appreciated, and if you have any tips for how to implement the latter I'm open to them (I can think of a few ways to possibly implement it)

• OpenLdap 2.4 on centos 6 doesn't listen on port 636

  I have an openldap 2.4 server on centos 6 whose confg I copied from those I have running under openldap 2.3 servers on centos 5 machines. On openldap 2.3, specifying TLSCACertificateFile, TLSCertificateFile and TLSCertificateKeyFile with correct values makes the server listen on port 636. This is not the case on the openldap 2.4 setup. I have configured it with loglevel -1 but I have not seen any clue as to what might be wrong and reading the openldap 2.4 manual doesn't indicate if any of the other TLS related parameters are now mandatory. I don't think so though because if I run the service manually, using "# /usr/sbin/slapd -u ldap -h "ldap:/// ldaps:/// ldapi:///"", the server does listen on port 636 and I can query it using "ldapsearch -H ldaps://myserver:636". Is there something I am missing to get the server to listen on port 636 without having to always launch it manually? Is this linked to centos 6 or openldap 2.4? Thank you. Cheers,

  I am trying to follow the instructions in this article to create a custom certificate to support SSL on a web server. I'm stick on the following step: Click on Personal – All Tasks – Advanced Operations – Create Custom request The problem is that on the web server (Windows Server 2003 R2) I don't have an "Advanced Operations" option under "All Tasks". I do on my desktop machine (Windows 7), but not on the server. All the documentation I can find indicates that it should be available on WS-2003-R2, but it just isn't. Note: I'm going through this manual process because I need to specify a alternate host names in the CSR, which you can't do through the IIS 6.0 console certificate managment functionality. Any suggestions for how to make this option show up?

• Understanding why a 450W power supply is destroying my ATX motherboards but not mATX

  Maybe I'm missing something really obvious here, but after going through 3 new motherboards in trying to build my new machine, I'm finally certain that the 450W power supply I bought has been destroying them. It seems like it should be simple: just connect the connectors where they fit and switch the thing on. But today after hooking it to my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX TUF Series Motherboard and switching it on, I could see and smell the smoke coming out of the motherboard. What I don't get is why I can hook this same 450W power supply up to my mATX motherboard and not run into the same problem. What am I missing here? Where on the box or manual is this? (I have 8x2 GB RAM, AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz CPU, 1 512MB ATI graphics card, 1 WD 7200 RPM SATA hard drive. )

• A software to lock regions of a screen to prevent any windows from overlapping

  I've just installed nexus dock (a similar application like rocketdock), after playing with the preferences i've come across a very curious option (under position & behavior) that says: Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the dock. With it enabled, any application I maximize(and i do mean any) won't overlap the dock, it's really great. So i'm thinking perhaps there's a software that does this kind of feature which is really ideal for keeping my workspace really organized. I really hate repositioning and resizing my windows everytime. Of course there's always the manual way of doing these but it's just too much of a bother when someone from the family uses the computer. Do you know any software that does this? even a software that can just save/remember window positions would also be nice too.

• How useful is mounting /tmp noexec?

  Many people (including the Securing Debian Manual) recommend mounting /tmp with the noexec,nodev,nosuid set of options. This is generally presented as one element of a 'defense-in-depth' strategy, by preventing the escalation of an attack that lets someone write a file, or an attack by a user with a legitimate account but no other writable space. Over time, however, I've encountered arguments (most prominently by Debian/Ubuntu Developer Colin Watson) that noexec is a useless measure, for a couple potential reasons: The user can run /lib/ld-linux.so <binary> in an attempt to get the same effect. The user can still run system-provided interpreters on scripts that can't be run directly Given these arguments, the potential need for more configuration (e.g. debconf likes an executable temporary directory), and the potential loss of convenience, is this a worthwhile security measure? What other holes do you know of that enable circumvention?
