• Find Date From Non Contiguous Ranges

  I am looking to find an best way to find a date from date ranges that may or may not be contiguous (I am trying to avoid a cursor, or a heavy function if possible). Lets say I have hotel guests that come and go (check in, check out). I want to find the date that a certain guest stayed their 45th night with us. The database we use records the data as so: Create Table #GuestLog( ClientId int, StartDate DateTime, EndDate DateTime) Here is some data Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '01/01/2010', '01/10/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '01/16/2010', '01/29/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '02/13/2010', '02/26/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '04/05/2010', '06/01/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '07/01/2010', '07/21/2010') So far I can only think of solutions that involve functions with temp tables and crazy stuff like that, I feel like I'm over thinking it. • SQL 2008 Select Top 1000 and update the selected database drop-down

  When you right click and do a Select top 1000 rows from a table in sql 2008, it opens a tab and writes the sql and then executes it. This is okay, however I'll erase the sql and use the same tab often to do other sql statements. What annoys me is that I have to go to the database drop-down at the top of the window and change it to the current database I'm in because it says Master. How can I make sql 2008 update the selected database for this tab automatically when I right click a table and do select top 1000? On a side note, can I automatically hide the select statement that it generates and just show grid of results?

• Export DB Tables via phpMyAdmin In Non-Alphabetical Order

  I have a MySQL database from a Joomla MultiSite installation where it has a set of tables with different prefixes for each Joomla site. When I export the db via phpMyAdmin it creates a SQL file where the tables are created and populated in alphabetical order. The problem is that the tables for the slave sites have dependencies on the tables for the master site, but alphabetically their prefixes are ahead of the master site. So the export works fine but when I try importing I get error after error and have to manually move sections around in the SQL file to make sure that the dependent tables are created/populated first. So, is it possible to export a db via phpMyAdmin with the tables in a specific order?

• Can I change the database server and database a report is pointing to dynamically?

  I have a Crystal 2008 report that will be deployed to an InfoView server. There are four different databases the user might want to execute the report against. Each of the four databases have exactly the same schema. Only the data in each is different. Each database corresponds to a plant we have around the world. Instead of creating four different reports (each one connected to one of the four databases), am I able to dynamically change the server/database the report hits based on a value the user enters into a parameter? I'm really trying to avoid having to create four identical reports except for the database connection on each. If this isn't possible, how do developers typically deal with this sort of scenario? I would imagine it's fairly common. Thanks very much.

But then I cannot simply write "void F(void (*func)(T), T&)" because T could be a reference. I can use regex to extract the info with preg_match_all but I feel this is not the right way as the data is already well structured. Any other method ?

Clients are able to connect without any problem and the writing seems occurring as well, but the acceptor doesn't read anything from the socket and the call to read() blocks indefinitely. • MySQL Import Database Error because of Extended Inserts

  Hello all, I'm importing a 400MB(uncompressed) MySQL database. I'm using BIGDUMP, and I am getting this error: Stopped at the line 387. At this place the current query includes more than 300 dump lines. That can happen if your dump file was created by some tool which doesn't place a semicolon followed by a linebreak at the end of each query, or if your dump contains extended inserts. Please read the BigDump FAQs for more infos. I believe the file does contain Extended Inserts, however I have no way to regenerate the database as it has been deleted from the old server. How can I import this database or convert it to be imported? Thanks for any help. Best Nick EDIT: It appears the only viable answer is to separate the extended inserts, but I still need help figuring out how to split the file as the answer below suggests. Please help. Thank you.

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

  I am trying to display a list of my vbulliten threads on a non-vbulliten portion of my site. So what is the problem? Is it due to some internal security feature in vbulliten, does this system not allow you to connect to it's db if the page trying to connect to it is a non-vbulliten page?

  Hi, We have a database which has location-based search using Google Maps API. However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time. Now how do I make sure that any changes in the datagrid is written back to the database? When I am using the configuration tool/menu of VSTS of my ASP.Net project (I want to use this tool to manually add some Forms authentication users), I met with the following error (SqlException), Trying to attach file D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf to automatically named database failed. It may be caused by existing the same name database, or may be caused by specified file can not be opened or caused by the specified file exists in UNC share. In my computer, there is no aspnetdb.mdf under dir D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data, and I have used aspnet_regsql to generate database successfully before I run the configuration tool.   I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido

  This is slightly embarrassing. I'm a professional developer working at one of the big tech companies and I've never used a database. I've got an idea for a website I want to build as a learning experience and possibly as a business, but I don't have the faintest idea what database to use, let alone how to fix/debug the database when I run into problems. I'm looking for a course, a website, a book, etc., that will give me an overview of modern database technology (SQL vs. NOSQL vs. relational vs. non-relational (I only have a vague idea what these even mean)). I'm starting by googling/wikipediaing all of these terms, but if there are better, comprehensive resources available that I should be aware of, I'd love to hear about them.

• Android/ORMLite Insert Row with ID

  I'm currently using ORMLite to work with a SQLite database on Android. As part of this I am downloading a bunch of data from a backend server and I'd like to have this data added to the SQLite database in the exact same format it is on the backend server (ie the IDs are the same, etc). So, my question to you is if I populate my database entry object (we'll call it Equipment), including Equipment's generatedId/primary key field via setId(), and I then run a DAO.create() with that Equipment entry will that ID be saved correctly? I tried it this way and it seems to me that this was not the case. If that is the case I will try again and look for other problems, but with the first few passes over the code I was not able to find one. So essentially, if I call DAO.create() on a database object with an ID set will that ID be sent to the database and if it is not, how can I insert a row with a primary key value already filled out? I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox.   I have written an installer and uninstaller in NSIS which creates and drops an sql database, which is working fine. I have written some .bat and .sql files to create and drop the database and then just call these files from NSIS script. My problem is if I keep this database open in SQL Server Management Studio and run the uninstaller ideally it should give an error message that the database is opened. In my case it shows the success message of uninstaller but dosnt drop the database properly. How can I handle this error in NSIS?

The database-file (mdf) has a size of 630MB and the log-file has a size of 12GB. I ask me now, what the reason for this can be. Is there a tool which let me seeing into the log where I can see, what is the reason for this big size? What can I do to prevent that the log is growing to this big size?
