• certain files not syncing

  I have UbuntuOne set up to sync a one folder with a number of subfolders. For some reason some of the subfolders have stopped syncing. Within one subfolder with 6 subfolders in it, some are showing up empty (they shouldn't be) and some are showing up with only some of the files they should contain. I have synced recently, and newer files are showing up in other subfolders. There's just some problem with these particular folders. They are not especially big nor do they have especially big files in them. Thoughts?

• codeblocks install failed. Dependency not resolved, libgcc1

  I am trying to install codeblocks using ubuntu software center. I found it but when install, I get dependency not resolved, libgcc1...like that. My system ubuntu 12.04, 32bits. Any advice will be appreciated. detailed fail message: codeblocks:depends:libgcc1(=1:4.1.1) but 1:4.6.3-1ubuntu5 is to be installed depends:codeblocks-common(=10.05-2) but 12.11-2 is to be installed. I went to codeblocks "more info" button in Ubuntu software center and selected all the add-ons for codeblocks. Apply changes and now I get an additional (to the two above) dependency message:depends:libwxsmithlib0(=10.05-2) but 12.11-2 is to be installed.

• can not get Toshiba tv to full resolution

  I have a 23inch Toshiba model#23L1350U that I am using as a computer monitor via VGA plug; it is a full 1080P resolution TV but in Ubuntu it shows up as a Toshiba 72inch Television and wont go past the resolution 1366 by 1768. Has anyone came up with a solution to this problem..I used to get full 1080 resolution with my Insignia 32 inch TV so I know my hardware can push the signal, I am running a Radeon x1550 graphics cars 3200+ processor on a 756 chip set 64bit version of Ubuntu 13.04 your help is greatly appreciated and you may or may not be compensated for your time

• C#: why have all static methods/variables in a non-static class?

  I have come across a class which is non-static, but all the methods and variables are static. Eg: public class Class1 { private static string String1 = "one"; private static string String2 = "two"; public static void PrintStrings(string str1, string str2) { ... All the variables are static across all instances, so there is no point having separate instances of the class. Is there any reason to create a class such as this?

• Cannot mount USB disks due to "not authorized" error

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 (.2?) installed. I don't plan to need GUI after setup so I modified the grub to start in console. However, whenever I want to start up GUI I need to type startx. Simple/basic stuff. However I seem to be hitting a snag: I am having trouble mounting/accessing USB flash drives in the GUI I started in the console. "Unable to mount location - not authorized". Seemed like it should be an easy fix, but can't figure out how I'm overlooking it. Can someone help me out?

• command-line zip not working

  I have a Wordpress site on a Debian/Linux dedicated server, with a Backupbuddy plugin for making automatic backups. The plugin, however, gives an error 'Your server does not support command line ZIP'. My knowledge of Linux commands is very limited, but I managed installing zip with the command sudo apt-get install zip However, I still get the same error message. Plugin documentation mentions the problem could also be caused by disabled exec() or safe_mode - but exec isn't disabled, and safe_mode is off. Any ideas what might be causing this, or how to fix it? The only thing I could think of, is it might be caused by wrong permissions?

  I use the smbfs tools package to mount my SMB shares. I wrote a quick script to mount the share: #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/smbmount "\\\\somehost.local\\hostshare" /media/hostshare -o user=smbuser,dom=WORKGROUP,uid=localuser,gid=localgroup This script used to work in 9.10 when called by the "localuser" account, but in my fresh-installed 10.04 it fails giving me the error: mount error(1): Operation not permitted Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) The /media/hostshare directory is empty and has these perms: drwxrwxr-x 2 localuser localgroup 4096 2010-12-12 12:04 hostshare/ The "localuser" is in these groups: localgroup adm dialout cdrom plugdev lpadmin admin sambashare Any idea what is going on here? Google seems to suggest that the "sticky" bit needs to be set on /sbin/mount.cifs /sbin/mount.smbfs and /sbin/umount.cifs Is this a bug?

• Internal mic not working on Aspire One D255

  I can't get my internal mic to work with any app other than Sound Recorder. I've scoured the other posts on this topic and none seem to have an answer. I've installed Alsa Mixer, Pulse Audio controls, tried minimising one of the stereo channels but nothing works. The mic is not muted. There is no function key on the keyboard to mute the mic either. The only connector options are analogue mic or analgue input. Neither do anything.

  I have a class Bar: class Bar { public: Bar(void); ~Bar(void); }; And a class Foo that gets a reference to Bar object as a constructor parameter and needs to save it in a private member bar_ : class Foo { private: Bar& bar_; public: Foo(Bar& bar) : bar_(bar) {} ~Foo(void) {} }; This doesn't compile : overloaded member function not found in 'Parser' missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int Now i suspect couple of things that i need to assure, the second error is for Bar& bar_; declaration in Foo. Do i need to use an explicit constructor when declaring bar_ ? I am interested in learning how the compiler works regarding this matter, so a detailed explanation would be highly appreciated. • Desktop background will not load after performing aticonfig --adapter=all --ovt=opengl

  I am trying to get Eagle to work on ubuntu 14.04 LTS. When I run Eagle and open a schematic the display is not refreshing/redrawing correctly. One solution that I found was to install the flgrx drivers and do the aticonfig command to use opengl... So I did and rebooted. Now when I turn on my laptop I get all the way to the login screen, login, and then nothing happens, it just goes to the background image with no icons or anything... I tried deleting and copying the original xorg.conf file and no results... What do I do other than reinstalling Ubuntu? is there anyway to force the original driver?

• Windows 8.1 Ubuntu will not run after restart

  I have been searching the internet forever now, but I am using wubi on a windows 8.1 laptop. I have properly burned the newest version of Ubuntu, I have never done this before, so please put the answer in simple terms. When I open wubi it comes up with these options: -reboot now -manually reboot later I put reboot now, and it reboots with no changes or differences to my operating system. The installer does not pop up upon rebooting and I have no idea what to try. I am a totally newbie at this. Please help me. I am using an Asus computer.

  Is there a way (in jquery or javascript) to loop through each object and it's children and gandchildren and so on. if so... can i also read their name? example foo :{ bar:'', child:{ grand:{ greatgrand: { //and so on } } } } so the loop should do something like this... loop start if(nameof == 'child'){ //do something } if(nameof == 'bar'){ //do something } if(nameof =='grand'){ //do something } loop end I know this is stupid code but i tried to make it understandable :) btw this is for a jquery UI, as i am clueless how to go on about this. thanks

• failure on creating a Scikits.TimeSeries object

  Hi All I am trying to create a scikit.timeseries object starting from 2 datetime objects. If I understood correctly it should be possible to create a scikits.timeseries starting from datetime objects. I try the following code but it says that Insufficient parameters. The 2 datetime differs for few microseconds. In this case what should be the value for freq parameter? Is what I am trying allowed? In theory, since timeseries can be based on datetime objects it should be possible to hanlde up to microsecond , is this correct? I think that this is not really clear to me. • Printing the address of a struct object

  I have a struct like this typedef struct _somestruct { int a; int b; }SOMESTRUCT,*LPSOMESTRUCT; I am creating an object for the struct and trying to print it's address like this int main() { LPSOMESTRUCT val = (LPSOMESTRUCT)malloc(sizeof(SOMESTRUCT)); printf("0%x\n", val); return 0; } ..and I get this warning warning C4313: 'printf' : '%x' in format string conflicts with argument 1 of type 'LPSOMESTRUCT' So, I tried to cast the address to int like this printf("0%x\n", static_cast<int>(val)); But I get this error: error C2440: 'static_cast' : cannot convert from 'LPSOMESTRUCT' to 'int' What am I missing here?   In C++, can member function pointers be used to point to derived (or even base) class members? EDIT: Perhaps an example will help. Suppose we have a hierarchy of three classes X, Y, Z in order of inheritance. Y therefore has a base class X and a derived class Z. Now we can define a member function pointer p for class Y. This is written as: void (Y::*p)(); (For simplicity, I'll assume we're only interested in functions with the signature void f() ) This pointer p can now be used to point to member functions of class Y. This question (two questions, really) is then: Can p be used to point to a function in the derived class Z? Can p be used to point to a function in the base class X?

• Tab autocomplete in terminal is not behaving properly

  There's something odd about my autocomplete in the gnome terminal. I used to be able to type cp Downtab to get cp Downloads/, and then type Jettab to end up with cp Downloads/Jet\ Pack\ Instructions.pdf But now, when I have cp Down typed and hit tab, I get cp Downloads with a space afterwards. And if I backspace that and make it say cp Downloads/Jet and hit tab, I get cp Downloads/Jet Pack Instructions.pdf without the backslashes. It wasn't like this before. How do I fix this? EDIT: There's a problem with my /etc/bash_completion file, it seems. Just not sure what.

  I have Acer 4745G with ATI HD 5650 1GB VRAM. After I installed the COD Black Ops trough Wine Playonlinux and successfully installed, and I play the game and then appear message "Shader Model 3.0 not available". I have installed ATI driver 11.8 when I trying this game. And then I'm trying to install the driver from menu "System Administration Additional Driver, it doesn't work. I cannot log in, in the screen appear only the text for log in. And then I uninstall it trough recovery mode. And then I download ATI driver 11.11 from official ATI/AMD website, and then I restart my computer and my screen appearing only text again. I'm using Ubuntu (Ultimate Edition) 11.04. How to overcome this problem?

  I'd like to take an object like this: SortedList<string, SortedList<int, SortedList<DateTime, double>>> Data and, for a given 'int' value (key of first nested sorted list), restructure it like this: SortedList<DateTime, SortedList<string, double>> or, better yet, this: SortedList<DateTime, double[]> where each 'double[]' has as many elements as there are KeyValue pairs in the SortedList. I'm guessing Linq is the way to go, but can't figure it out. Thanks for any suggestions.

• Partial class or "chained inheritance"

  Hi From my understanding partial classes are a bit frowned upon by professional developers, but I've come over a bit of an issue; I have made an implementation of the RichTextBox control that uses user32.dll calls for faster editing of large texts. That results in quite a bit of code. Then I added spellchecking capabilities to the control, this was made in another class inheriting RichTextBox control as well. That also makes up a bit of code. These two functionalities are quite separate but I would like them to be merged so that I can drop one control on my form that has both fast editing capabilities and spellchecking built in. I feel that simply adding the code form one class to the other would result in a too large code file, especially since there are two very distinct areas of functionality, so I seem to need another approach. Now to my question; To merge these two classes should I make the spellchecking RichTextBox inherit from the fast edit one, that in turn inherits RichTextBox? Or should I make the two classes partials of a single class and thus making them more “equal” so to speak? This is more of a question of OO principles and exercise on my part than me trying to reinvent the wheel, I know there are plenty of good text editing controls out there. But this is just a hobby for me and I just want to know how this kind of solution would be managed by a professional. Thanks!

Is it a necessary or a good idea to have a reciprocal @OneToMany for the @ManyToOne? • Mobile broadband not connect without unplug and plug

  I have recently installed ubuntu 13.10 and I am still very new in this operating system. My problem is that when I start my computer, it detects all the wifi connections around but not my mobile broadband usb connection (huwaie). I dont get any mobile broadband section automatically. I have to unplug and then plug my broadband usb to connect and have mobile broadband section available. I dont like to unplug and then plug my device always as it will loose my laptop and I always want to be plug in laptop even in shutdown. I always want to auto detect my usb broadband by ubuntu. • How to start vnc server on-demand (not on boot)

  I have a vps which has the basic xfce environment & tightvncserver installed. I would like to have tightvncserver automatically start whenever I initiate a connection to the port it runs on (in my case, 5901). I've seen posts about using inetd or xinetd to do this, but I've also seen lots of posts saying that (x)inetd is not included in Ubuntu for a reason, and that it's a bad idea to use it. Anyways, I'm looking for a way to auto-start tightvncserver whenever there's an incoming connection to port 5901, preferably with as few dependencies as possible
