• Replacing backslash with another symbol in PHP

  Hi there, Been struggling with replacing a backslash by another symbol such as '.-.' just to indicate the position of backslashes as I could not send a string such as 'C\xampp\etc.' through url as GET variable so I thought I'd first replace the backslashes in that string by another symbol, then send through url, and then replace them back to backslashes in the PHP file that handles it. Though would there be a better way to send such strings through url? Because when I try a script such as: $tmp_name = preg_replace("\", ".-.", $_FILES['uploadfile']['tmp_name']); It turns out into a php error as \ is also used as delimiter.. Could anyone help me out on this? Thanks in advanced! Btw, if I'd be able to send a full array through url, this whole problem would be solved, but I don't think it's possible?

  I'm not using an off-the-shelf framework and don't particularly want to (nor d I want to go into the reasons why...). Anyway, onto my question(s), I hope it make sense.... I'm trying to get my head around what should go in the model and what should go in the controller. Originally I had the impression that a model class should represent an actual object (eg - a car from the cars table of a database) and model properties should mirror the database fields. However I'm now getting the feeling that I've got the wrong idea - should an instance of a model class represent an actual item, or should it contain a number of methods for doing stuff - sometimes to one car or sometimes to multiple cars based on my example earlier. For example I want to get all the cars from a the database and show them in the view. Am I right in think it should be along the lines of this? Controller File function list() { $cars = $this->model->get_all(); $this->view->add($cars); $this->view->render('cars-list'); } Model File function get_all() { // Use a database interaction class that I've written $cars = Database::select(); return $cars; } Now, if the car had a "status" field that was stored as an integer in the database and I wanted to change that to a string, where should that be done? By looping the SQL results array in the get_all() method in the model? Also, where should form validation live? I have written a validation class that works a little like this: $validator = new Validator(); $validator->check('field_name', 'required'); If the check fails, it adds an error message to the array in the Validator. This array of error messages would then get passed to the view. Should the use of my validator class go in model or the controller? Thanks in advance for for any help anyone can offer. If you know of any links to a simple MVC example / open source application that deals with basic CRUD, they would be much appreciated.

  I am having a problem in php switch case. When i set $number=0 it should run very first case but here this code returns 10-20K that is in second case. I checked comparison operators, tested them in if else case they return correct values but here first case do not run on $number=0 Why is this happening ? php consider 0 as false or something wrong in code ? • RSA Encrypt in PHP to decrypt in .NET

  In PHP I am RSA encrypting a message to be decrypted by .NET application... but I keep getting a "Bad Key" exception from .NET.... For RSA encryption, I am using PEAR class Crypt_RSA- encrypting with the public key (which is a modulus, exponent pair) I get from working encryption system in .NET... I guess the easiest question would be- does "Bad Key" mean it is not able to decrypt the message whatsoever? IE, it is not encrypted correctly? The harder question is- Is there anything specific about RSA encryption that causes quirks between .NET and PHP?

  Hello, I am having the same problem as described below. http://marc.info/?l=php-general&m=124104032703506 The guy answered his own question by: "Sorry, didn't pay attention to the registered streams :-( You need to install a PHP package with ssl or compile it with --with-openssl." What does that mean? I'm fairly new to all this stuff and I don't quite understand what he was talking about, (e.g. registered streams, ssl). We have another server that has SSL. Does he mean that if I just transfer to that server, problem solved? Or is there anything else I need to consider? Can you please help me out? Any help is much appreciated :)

  Hi!  Does anyone have a real-world experience in building such a project? I'd like to move away questions about "is it good idea or not", but focus on possible solutions. I see one simple way - HTTP GET/POST + xml/json - and one more elegant - AJAX/DWR. As for the first one - I understand that it is possible, but needs quite a lot coding. As for second way - is it possible to use Java DWR engine with PHP front-end? Is DWR language-independent for client side (as it uses just JavaScript)?  Would it be a problem, that client page was generated by one web server (for example, apache+php) and served on server-side by another (for example, tomcat)? I suspect, that Tomcat will complain about sessions. Can this problem be fixed with allowing cross-domain AJAX? Thank you in advance. Denis.

• PHP Processes reaching limit along with FastCGI timeouts

  I have a problem similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1168384/how-to-troubleshoot-php-processes, but with a twist. We have a couple of managed servers that recently migrated to FastCGI. Since then we've been having problems. We have a content management system at a central place that we manage all our sites with. All the sites run on the same managed server. So basically its one PHP script that generates pages on the same server. The catch comes in where it works perfectly on some, and gives FCGI timeout errors on others. At the same time our support is saying that the PHP processes heap up to their limit and then causes Apache to stop working. I'm convinced this is a fault on their side, but would like to get my side clean too. Anyway have any suggestions where I can start looking for what's going wrong? I know it's a really broad question, but any help or pointers would be great.   Anyone using the following php S3 client library? http://undesigned.org.za/2007/10/22/amazon-s3-php-class It's been working fine for me for a few days, just noticed that a script I have in place now just ends up hanging.   I'm trying to run three MySQL queries from a PHP script, the first one works fine, but on the second one I get the "Commands out of sync; you can’t run this command now" error. I have managed to understand that I need to "empty" the resultset before preparing a new query but I can't seem to understand how. I thought that $statement-close; would do that for me.   I want to start automating more of my web development process so I'm looking for a build system. I write mostly PHP apps on Mac OS X and deploy Linux servers over FTP. A lot of my clients have basic hosting providers so shell access to their servers is typically not available, however remote MySQL access is usually present. Here is what I want to do with a build system: When Building: Lint JavaScript Files Validate CSS Files Validate HTML Files Minify and concatenate JS and CSS files Verify PHP Syntax Set Debug/Production flags When Deploying Checkout latest version from SVN Run build process Upload files to server via FTP Run SQL scripts on remote DB I realize this is a lot of work to automate but I think it would be worth it. So what is the best way to start down this path? Is there a system that can handle builds and deploys, or should I search for separate solutions? What systems would you recommend?
