  • Set up linux box for hosting a-z

    - by microchasm
    I am in the process of reinstalling the OS on a machine that will be used to host a couple of apps for our business. The apps will be local only; access from external clients will be via vpn only. The prior setup used a hosting control panel (Plesk) for most of the admin, and I was looking at using another similar piece of software for the reinstall - but I figured I should finally learn how it all works. I can do most of the things the software would do for me, but am unclear on the symbiosis of it all. This is all an attempt to further distance myself from the land of Configuration Programmer/Programmer, if at all possible. I can't find a full walkthrough anywhere for what I'm looking for, so I thought I'd put up this question, and if people can help me on the way I will edit this with the answers, and document my progress/pitfalls. Hopefully someday this will help someone down the line. The details: CentOS 5.5 x86_64 httpd: Apache/2.2.3 mysql: 5.0.77 (to be upgraded) php: 5.1 (to be upgraded) The requirements: SECURITY!! Secure file transfer Secure client access (SSL Certs and CA) Secure data storage Virtualhosts/multiple subdomains Local email would be nice, but not critical The Steps: Download latest CentOS DVD-iso (torrent worked great for me). Install CentOS: While going through the install, I checked the Server Components option thinking I was going to be using another Plesk-like admin. In hindsight, considering I've decided to try to go my own way, this probably wasn't the best idea. Basic config: Setup users, networking/ip address etc. Yum update/upgrade. Upgrade PHP/MySQL: To upgrade PHP and MySQL to the latest versions, I had to look to another repo outside CentOS. IUS looks great and I'm happy I found it! Add IUS repository to our package manager cd /tmp wget http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/x86_64/epel-release-1-1.ius.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -Uvh epel-release-1-1.ius.el5.noarch.rpm wget http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/x86_64/ius-release-1-4.ius.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -Uvh ius-release-1-4.ius.el5.noarch.rpm yum list | grep -w \.ius\. # list all the packages in the IUS repository; use this to find PHP/MySQL version and libraries you want to install Remove old version of PHP and install newer version from IUS rpm -qa | grep php # to list all of the installed php packages we want to remove yum shell # open an interactive yum shell remove php-common php-mysql php-cli #remove installed PHP components install php53 php53-mysql php53-cli php53-common #add packages you want transaction solve #important!! checks for dependencies transaction run #important!! does the actual installation of packages. I will keep editing this as I make progress. Any tips on how to Configure virtual interfaces/ip based virtual hosts for SSL, setting up a CA, or anything else would be appreciated.

  • django+mod_wsgi on virtualenv not working

    - by jwesonga
    I've just finished setting up a django app on virtualenv, deployment went smoothly using a fabric script, but now the .wsgi is not working, I've tried every variation on the internet but no luck. My .wsgi file is: import os import sys import django.core.handlers.wsgi # put the Django project on sys.path root_path = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__) + '../') sys.path.insert(0, os.path.join(root_path, 'kcdf')) sys.path.insert(0, root_path) os.environ['DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE'] = 'kcdf.settings' application = django.core.handlers.wsgi.WSGIHandler() I keep getting the same error: [Sun Apr 18 12:44:30 2010] [error] [client 41.215.123.159] mod_wsgi (pid=16938): Exception occurred processing WSGI script '/home/kcdfweb/webapps/kcdf.web/releases/current/kcdf/apache/kcdf.wsgi'. • Turbogears 2.0 with Python 2.6

    - by AKSK
    I've tried to install TurboGears 2.0 with Python 2.6 on both Windows 7 and Windows XP, but both give the same error: File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\Scripts\paster-script.py", line 8, in <module> load_entry_point('pastescript==1.7.3', 'console_scripts', 'paster')() File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\lib\site-packages\pastescript-1.7.3-py2.6.egg\paste\script\command.py", line 73, in run commands = get_commands() File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\lib\site-packages\pastescript-1.7.3-py2.6.egg\paste\script\command.py", line 115, in get_ plugins = pluginlib.resolve_plugins(plugins) File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\lib\site-packages\pastescript-1.7.3-py2.6.egg\paste\script\pluginlib.py", line 81, in res pkg_resources.require(plugin) File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\lib\site-packages\setuptools-0.6c9-py2.6.egg\pkg_resources.py", line 626, in require File "D:\PythonProjects\tg2env\lib\site-packages\setuptools-0.6c9-py2.6.egg\pkg_resources.py", line 524, in resolve pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: zope.sqlalchemy>=0.4: Not Found for: City_Guide (did you run python setup.py develop?) Now, according to the documentation on the main site, TurboGears 2.0 supports Python 2.6 in this page: TurboGears works with any version of python between 2.4 and 2.6. The most widely deployed version of python at the moment of this writing is version 2.5. Both python 2.4 and python 2.6 require additional steps which will be covered in the appropriate sections. But they never mention those steps in the documentation.

  • python-iptables: Cryptic error when allowing incoming TCP traffic on port 1234

    - by Lucas Kauffman
    I wanted to write an iptables script in Python. Rather than calling iptables itself I wanted to use the python-iptables package. However I'm having a hard time getting some basic rules setup. I wanted to use the filter chain to accept incoming TCP traffic on port 1234. So I wrote this: import iptc chain = iptc.Chain(iptc.TABLE_FILTER,"INPUT") rule = iptc.Rule() target = iptc.Target(rule,"ACCEPT") match = iptc.Match(rule,'tcp') match.dport='1234' rule.add_match(match) rule.target = target chain.insert_rule(rule) However when I run this I get this thrown back at me: Traceback (most recent call last): File "testing.py", line 9, in <module> chain.insert_rule(rule) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/iptc/__init__.py", line 1133, in insert_rule self.table.insert_entry(self.name, rbuf, position) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/iptc/__init__.py", line 1166, in new obj.refresh() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/iptc/__init__.py", line 1230, in refresh self._free() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/iptc/__init__.py", line 1224, in _free self.commit() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/iptc/__init__.py", line 1219, in commit raise IPTCError("can't commit: %s" % (self.strerror())) iptc.IPTCError: can't commit: Invalid argument Exception AttributeError: "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_errno'" in <bound method Table.__del__ of <iptc.Table object at 0x7fcad56cc550>> ignored Does anyone have experience with python-iptables that could enlighten on what I did wrong?

  • Problem running python/matplotlib in background after ending ssh session.

    - by Jamie
    Hi there, I have to VPN and then ssh from home to my work server and want to run a python script in the background, then log out of the ssh session. My script makes several histogram plots using matplotlib, and as long as I keep the connection open everything is fine, but if I log out I keep getting an error message in the log file I created for the script. File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/pyplot.py", line 2058, in loglog ax = gca() File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/pyplot.py", line 582, in gca ax = gcf().gca(**kwargs) File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/pyplot.py", line 276, in gcf return figure() File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/pyplot.py", line 254, in figure **kwargs) File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/backends/backend_tkagg.py", line 90, in new_figure_manager window = Tk.Tk() File "/Home/eud/jmcohen/.local/lib/python2.5/lib-tk/Tkinter.py", line 1647, in __init__ self.tk = _tkinter.create(screenName, baseName, className, interactive, wantobjects, useTk, sync, use) _tkinter.TclError: couldn't connect to display "localhost:10.0" I'm assuming that it doesn't know where to create the figures I want since I close my X11 ssh session. If I'm logged in while the script is running I don't see any figures popping up (although that's because I don't have the show() command in my script), and I thought that python uses tkinter to display figures. The way that I'm creating the figures is, loglog() hist(list,x) ylabel('y') xlabel('x') savefig('%s_hist.ps' %source.name) close() The script requires some initial input, so the way I'm running it in the background is python scriptToRun.py << start>& logfile.log& Is there a way around this, or do I just have to stay ssh'd into my machine? Thanks.

  • Django caching seems to be causing problems

    - by Issy
    Hey guys, i have just implemented the Django Cache Local Memory back end in some my code, however it seems to be causing a problem. I get the following error when trying to view the site (With Debug On): Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/servers/basehttp.py", line 279, in run self.result = application(self.environ, self.start_response) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/servers/basehttp.py", line 651, in __call__ return self.application(environ, start_response) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/wsgi.py", line 245, in __call__ response = middleware_method(request, response) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/middleware/cache.py", line 91, in process_response patch_response_headers(response, timeout) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/utils/cache.py", line 112, in patch_response_headers response['Expires'] = http_date(time.time() + cache_timeout) TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for +: 'float' and 'str' I have checked my code, for caching everything seems to be ok. • How to use OpenCV in Python?

    - by Roman
    I have just installed OpenCV on my Windows 7 machine. As a result I get a new directory: C:\OpenCV2.2\Python2.7\Lib\site-packages In this directory I have two files: cv.lib and cv.pyd. Then I try to use the opencv from Python. I do the following: import sys sys.path.append('C:\OpenCV2.2\Python2.7\Lib\site-packages') import cv As a result I get the following error message: File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found. What am I doing wrong? ADDED As it was recommended here, I have copied content of C:\OpenCV2.0\Python2.6\Lib\site-packages to the C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages. It did not help.

  • C# functional quicksort is failing

    - by Rubys
    I'm trying to implement quicksort in a functional style using C# using linq, and this code randomly works/doesn't work, and I can't figure out why. Important to mention: When I call this on an array or list, it works fine. But on an unknown-what-it-really-is IEnumerable, it goes insane (loses values or crashes, usually. sometimes works.) The code: public static IEnumerable<T> Quicksort<T>(this IEnumerable<T> source) where T : IComparable<T> { if (!source.Any()) yield break; var pivot = source.First(); var sortedQuery = source.Skip(1).Where(a => a.CompareTo(source.First()) <= 0).Quicksort() .Concat(new[] { pivot }) .Concat(source.Skip(1).Where(a => a.CompareTo(source.First()) > 0).Quicksort()); foreach (T key in sortedQuery) yield return key; } Can you find any faults here that would cause this to fail?

  • Join Where Rows Don't Exist or Where Criteria Matches...?

    - by Greg
    I'm trying to write a query to tell me which orders have valid promocodes. Promocodes are only valid between certain dates and optionally certain packages. I'm having trouble even explaining how this works (see psudo-ish code below) but basically if there are packages associated with a promocode then the order has to have one of those packages and be within a valid date range otherwise it just has to be in a valid date range. The whole "if PrmoPackage rows exist" thing is really throwing me off and I feel like I should be able to do this without a whole bunch of Unions. (I'm not even sure if that would make it easier at this point...) Anybody have any ideas for the query? if `OrderPromoCode` = `PromoCode` then if `OrderTimestamp` is between `PromoStartTimestamp` and `PromoEndTimestamp` then if `PromoCode` has packages associated with it //yes then if `PackageID` is one of the specified packages //yes code is valid //no invalid //no code is valid Order: OrderID* | OrderTimestamp | PackageID | OrderPromoCode 1 | 1/2/11 | 1 | ABC 2 | 1/3/11 | 2 | ABC 3 | 3/2/11 | 2 | DEF 4 | 4/2/11 | 3 | GHI Promo: PromoCode* | PromoStartTimestamp* | PromoEndTimestamp* ABC | 1/1/11 | 2/1/11 ABC | 3/1/11 | 4/1/11 DEF | 1/1/11 | 1/11/13 GHI | 1/1/11 | 1/11/13 PromoPackage: PromoCode* | PromoStartTimestamp* | PromoEndTimestamp* | PackageID* ABC | 1/1/11 | 2/1/11 | 1 ABC | 1/1/11 | 2/1/11 | 3 GHI | 1/1/11 | 1/11/13 | 1 Desired Result: OrderID | IsPromoCodeValid 1 | 1 2 | 0 3 | 1 4 | 0

  • How to build and deploy Python web applications

    - by sverrejoh
    I have a Python web application consisting of several Python packages. What is the best way of building and deploying this to the servers? Currently I'm deploying the packages with Capistrano, installing the packages into a virtualenv with bash, and configuring the servers with puppet, but I would like to go for a more Python based solution. I've been looking a bit into zc.buildout, but it's not clear for me what I can/should use it for.

  • importing modules in app engine

    - by tanky
    Ive asked this before, but it seems i wasnt clear/detailed enough and after a week of trying im still struggling so i will try again. i am trying to use, oauth2 and ply on app engine. i have tried copying their directories into my app engine project directory (in the form ply-3.4 or brosner-python-oauth2-82a05f9) and i have tried copying the specific sub directory contained within the aforemention one. (ply or oauth2) i have tried saying import oauth2, from brosner-oauth2_python-82a05f9 import oauth and other variations on the theme, but i still cant get it to work nothing has worked. i have tried including them in app.yaml, but that seemed to create an even bigger error as my entire project wouldnt even run when i tried that. and now i have run out of things to try. the error log i am getting is as follows. • node.js UDP data lost at high package rates

    - by koleto
    I am observing a significant data-lost on a UDP connection with node.js 0.6.18 and 0.8.0 . It appears at high packet rates about 1200 packet per second with frames about 1500 byte limit. Each data packages has a incrementing number so it easy to track the number of lost packages. var server = dgram.createSocket("udp4"); server.on("message", function (message, rinfo) { //~processData(message); //~ writeData(message, null, 5000); }).bind(10001); On the receiving callback I tested two cases I first saved 5000 packages in a file. The result ware no dropped packages. After I have included a data processing routine and got about 50% drop rate. What I expected was that the process data routine should be completely asynchronous and should not introduce dead time to the system, since it is a simple parser to process binary data in the package and to emits events to a further processing routine. It seems that the parsing routine introduce dead time in which the event handler is unable to handle each packets. At the low package rates (< 1200 packages/sec) there are no data lost observed! Is this a bug or I am doing something wrong?

  • Problem shrinking with StretchBlt()

    - by SparkyNZ
    Hi. I have some code that paints my own rectangular buttons based on a source bitmap. Most of the time the destination buttons are bigger than my source bitmap image and StretchBlt works fine. However, when the destination is smaller than the source image, StretchBlt refuses to fill the entire destination area. I know StretchBlt isn't great on quality when it comes to scaling down images but I'm not too concerned about that. I just don't want missing pixels. Here a link with the source image at the top and destination at the bottom: link text Note, I am actually shrinking parts of the source image into the destination. I am not shrinking the entire image down. So for example, I copy the corners size for size with BitBlt() then I stretch (squash) the horizontal pixel data between the corners from the source image into the destination DC. There is no fault with my source and destination coordinates. If I change from SRCCOPY to WHITENESS, the entire area fills with white as you'd expect. There is no grey bar where pixels haven't copied as you see in the Broken.bmp image above. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, can somebody please suggest a solution? Cheers

  • How to update a TextView on ButtonClick with Spinner(s) values

    - by source.rar
    Hi, I am trying to populate a TextView based on the current selected options in 3 Spinner(s) but cant seem to figure out how to retrieve the selected values from the Spinners to invoke the update function with. Here is my current code (quite messy but I'm just learning Java :)), public class AgeFun extends Activity { private String[] dayNames; private String[] yearArray; private final static int START_YEAR = 1990; private static TextView textDisp; private Button calcButton; private static Spinner spinnerDay, spinnerYear, spinnerMonth; private static ArrayAdapter<?> monthAdapter, dayAdapter, yearAdapter; private int year, month, day; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); year = 2000; month = 1; day = 1; textDisp = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.textView1); calcButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button); calcButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { // Perform action on clicks AgeFun.updateAge(year, month, day); } }); // Month spinner spinnerMonth = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinnerFirst); monthAdapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.monthList, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); monthAdapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinnerMonth.setAdapter(monthAdapter); // Day spinner dayNames = new String[31]; for(int i =1; i <= 31; ++i) { dayNames[i-1] = Integer.toString(i); } spinnerDay = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinnerSecond); dayAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<CharSequence>(this, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, dayNames); spinnerDay.setAdapter(dayAdapter); // Year spinner yearArray = new String[40]; for(int i =0; i < 40; ++i) { yearArray[i] = Integer.toString(START_YEAR+i); } spinnerYear = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinnerThird); yearAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<CharSequence>(this, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, yearArray); spinnerYear.setAdapter(yearAdapter); updateAge(2000,1,1); } private static void updateAge(int year, int month, int day) { Date dob = new GregorianCalendar(year, month, day).getTime(); Date currDate = new Date(); long age = (currDate.getTime() - dob.getTime()) / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24) / 365; textDisp.setText("Your are " + Long.toString(age) + " years old"); } } Any help with this would be great. TIA

  • How to access individual items in Android GridView?

    - by source.rar
    Hi, I'm trying to create a game with a 9x9 grid with GridView. Each item in the grid is a TextView. I am able to set the initial values of each item in the grid within the getView() method to "0", however I want to change the value of each grid individually after this but have been unable to do so. I tried adding an update() function in my extended GridAdapter class that takes a position and a number to update at that position but this doesnt seem to be working. public void update(int position, int number) { TextView cell; cell = (TextView) getItem(position); if (cell != null) { cell.setText(Integer.toString(number)); } } Doe anyone know how this can be achieved? Here's the whole GridAdapter class in case require, public class SudokuGridAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private Context myContext; private TextView[] myCells; public SudokuGridAdapter(Context c) { myContext = c; myCells = new TextView[9*9]; } @Override public int getCount() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return 9*9; } @Override public Object getItem(int position) { return myCells[position]; } @Override public long getItemId(int position) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return 0; } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TextView cell; if (myCells[position] == null) { cell = myCells[position] = new TextView(myContext); cell.setText("0"); } else { cell = myCells[position]; } return cell; } public void update(int position, int number) { TextView cell; cell = (TextView) getItem(position); if (cell != null) { cell.setText(Integer.toString(number)); } } }

  • Winlibre - An Aptitude-Synaptic for Windows. Would that be useful?

    - by acadavid
    Hi everyone. Last year, in 2009 GSoC, I participated with an organization called Winlibre. The basic idea is having a project similar to Aptitude (or Apt-get) and a GUI like Synaptic but for Windows and just to hold (initially), only open source software. The project was just ok, we finished what we considered was a good starting point but unfortunately, due to different occupations of the developers, the project has been idle almost since GSoC finished. Now, I have some energy, time and interest to try to continue this development. The project was divided in 3 parts: A repository server (which i worked on, and which was going to store and serve packages and files), a package creator for developers, and the main app, which is apt-get and its GUI. I have been thinking about the project, and the first question that came to my mind is.. actually is this project useful for developers and Windows users? Keep in mind that the idea is to solve dependencies problems, and install packages "cleanly". I'm not a Windows developer and just a casual user, so i really don't have a lot of experience on how things are handled there, but as far as I have seen, all installers handle those dependencies. Will windows developers be willing to switch from installers to a packages way of handling installations of Open source Software? Or it's just ok to create packages for already existing installers? The packages concept is basically the same as .deb or .rpm files. I still have some other questions, but basically i would like to make sure that it's useful in someway to users and Windows developers, and if developers would find this project interesting. If you have any questions, feedback, suggestions or criticisms, please don't mind about posting them. Thanks!!

  • Selecting radiobuttons populated within asp.net RadioButtonList with jQuery

    - by user194881
    Hello and thanks in advance for the communal help I always find here. I have been tinkering around with what should seem a pretty straight forward task even for a jQuery newb as myself. I have a radiobuttonlist control bound to a collection: <asp:RadioButtonList ID="radBtnLstPackageSelector" runat="server" CssClass="PackageS"> </asp:RadioButtonList> My form does have several other controls of the same type; Now, the challenge is to select and wire up a on Click event for every radiobutton from the radBtnLstPackageSelector. I have tried several approaches such as: var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input"); var results1 = $(".PackageS").children("input[type=radiobutton"); var results1 = $("table.PackageS > input[type=radiobutton"); with no luck... Your help would be great right now! ~m
