• HSQLDB Constraint Violation & SQL Query Log for an HSQLDB in-memory setup

  We have a setup where we are using an embedded HSQLDB for backing Hibernate/JPA unit tests in java, and we are using the in-memory database mode since we simply want the database thrown away after the test run. My problem is that one of the tests is failing due to a constraint violation and HSQLDB lists the column as SYS_CT_286, and the query that appears in the log is the prepared statement where I cant see what the actual parameter values are (they are replaced by '?'). My questions are: 1- Is there a way in which I can see the actual SQL being executed? (like the mysql query log for example?). 2- What exactly is SYS_CT_286? it is not one of my columns, is it a generated column? is there something obvious that may be wrong with it? Thanks.

• accessing files after setup.py install

  I'm developing a python application and have a question regarding coding it so that it still works after an user has installed it on his or her machine via setup.py install or similar. In one of my files, I use the following: file = "TestParser/View/MainWindow.ui" cwd = os.getcwd() argv_path = os.path.dirname(sys.argv[0]) file_path = os.path.join(cwd, argv_path, file) in order to get the path to MainWindow.ui, when I only know the path relative to the main script's location. This works regardless of from where I call the main script. The issue is that after an user installs the application on his or her machine, the relative path is different, so this doesn't work. I could use __file__, but according to this, py2exe doesn't have __file__. Is there a standard way of achieving this? Or a better way?

• Whats wrong with this task queue setup?

  I've setup this task queue implementation on a site I host for a customer, it has a cron job which runs each morning at 2am "/admin/tasks/queue", this queues up emails to be sent out, "/admin/tasks/email", and uses cursors so as to do the queuing in small chunks. For some reason last night /admin/tasks/queue kept getting run by this code and so sent out my whole quota of emails :/. • Paypal IPN setup...Ship to Zipcode and auto calculation

  Hi I have successfully setup paypal IPN on my site and its working fine. From my paypal account I have set options to ass shipping and tax calculations(only if it's Iowa). But the only issue is, on the paypal checkout page it's asking me to enter the "Ship to Zipcode" manually...if I enter and update only then the net payable is getting updated with the shipping and tax charges. Is there any variable via which I could send the ship to zip code which will work directly on the cart and make it auto calculate the charges and show it? I have tried both "zip" and "address_zip" variables. None of them worked. By the way I have multiple items on my cart so I am using the "cart" transaction type. Thanks in advance for your help.

  How do I make setup.py include a file that isn't part of the code? (Specifically, it's a license file, but it could be any other thing.) I want to be able to control the location of the file. In the original source folder, the file is in the root of the package. (i.e. on the same level as the topmost __init__.py.) I want it to stay exactly there when the package is installed, regardless of operating system. How do I do that?

  I'm trying to figure out the best practice to setup hierarchy data that i take from a database into some contoller that would show the hierachy. Basicly this would look like a normal tree but when you press the items that are under "chapters" you get a link to another page. I have these tables and this is the way they are connected Period Courses Subjects Chapters I select Period from a DropDownBox and then i want all the courses in that period to line up. Under each course would be the subject and under them are the chapers, typical hierarchy. The tables are linked together with refrences to each other in linear way. I have tried to use treeview to show this, but dont understand how to do it. I though i could use <ul><il> tags and do it at runtime. Reapeter or datalist, possible ? Is it better to do this with databinding in XAML or in code ?

• Strange MSI error when setup.exe is run

  We're using Visual Studio 2008's Setup Project to create an installer for our .NET 3.5 app. We host the .exe and .msi files on a website for our client to access, and produce new ones regularly to provide updates. This has all been fine until recently we've noticed some cases where installing via the .exe fails. The symptoms are: The .exe downloads fine, and runs fine. It appears to download the .msi successfully (the "downloading application files" step plods through happily), but then when it gets to the end of the "preparing to install" step, instead of launching the installer UI it pops up a message saying "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package". You'd think that the .msi is just corrupt or something, but running it explicitly (even downloading it from the same location as the .exe to do so) works just fine. This problem is occurring on just some of our machines, which are running a mixture of XP and Windows7. The only pattern I can see in those machines that experience the problem is that they tend to have had the application installed on them longer (i.e. updating the app rather than installing for the first time). It seems to me that it might be something to do with how/where the .exe downloads the .msi to, and perhaps different versions are conflicting there? Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone know where the installer .exe puts the .msi that it downloads?

However if I change the destination path to http://url.com/central_repository/projectname It acts like it found the repository, It tells me it found the changesets, and it was adding the changesets and manifests, but then it says "transaction abort!   All, I'm in the process now of building a SaaS tool that allows network admins to generate notification emails to the members of the end-users of our platform (among many many other things). I'm running into a bit of an "out of my expertise" wall, as I know there are a lot of variables involved with configuring an application that can: Run in a distributed way via load balancing and still-- Leverage a single mail server for sending notification emails Process unsubscribe requests Avoid any ISP blacklisting in the process. If anyone has the time and has done this before, I'd love if you could walk me through the A-Z of best practices both from a configuration perspective and an execution perspective for generating these emails (anything from necessary DNS settings to ideal SMTP setup and configuration) Currently, our application generates email via Google Apps using the PHPMailer class. While this works well, it doesn't queue messages (potential for timeout problems if any of our clients amass a very large list of end-users), and Google limits the amount of allowed generated email messages to 500/day. I know this is a lofty question, but any guidance you could provide would be smashing and a big help as we work through this hurtle in our beta development stage. Thanks!

• How to setup matlabpool for multiple processors?

  I just setup a Extra Large Heavy Computation EC2 instance to throw it at my Genetic Algorithms problem, hoping to speed up things. This instance has 8 Intel Xeon processors (around 2.4Ghz each) and 7 Gigs of RAM. On my machine I have an Intel Core Duo, and matlab is able to work with my two cores just fine by runinng: matlabpool open 2 On the EC2 instance though, matlab only is capable of detecting 1 out of 8 processors, and if I try running: matlabpool open 8 I get an error saying that the ClusterSize is 1 since there's only 1 core on my CPU. True, there is only 1 core on each CPU, but I have 8 CPUs on the given EC2 instance! So the difference from my machine and the ec2 instance is that I have my 2 cores on a single processor locally, while the EC2 instance has 8 distinct processors. My question is, how do I get matlab to work with those 8 processors? I found this paper, but it seems related to setting up matlab with multiple EC2 instances (not related to multiple processors on the same instance, EC2 or not), which is not my problem. Any help appreciated!

• Project setup for creating third party libraries for Android

  Hi all, I am creating a library for Android that others can include in their own project. So far I have been working on it as a normal Java project with JDK 1.6 setup as system library. This works just fine in Eclipse when I add the android.jar. The issue comes when I try to my build script. I am running Gradle and doing a normal compile and test build cycle. My thoughts were that it does not matter if I compile it with a normal JDK, since this is not a standalone application. The benefits by creating a normal Java project is that Gradle does support this much better. My project also does not contain any UI at all. However, the problem is that of course android.jar and the JDK contains lots of the same classes and I think that this is what messes up my build script. Everything crashes when running the tests (the tests are in the same project under src/test/java). My question is, how should I create this project that is meant to be included in Android projects as a third party library? Should I create it as an Android project in Eclipse even though I am only creating a library that does not use any of the UI features? Also, should the tests be in a separate project?   I have created a simple Python module and want to distribute it with pip. I also want to install a Bash completion file together with the module. I'm installing the module with Python 2.7.1+ and pip 0.8.2. I have this setup.py: setup( name='jenkinsmon', version='0.0.1', description='Jenkins Job Monitor', long_description=open('README.txt').read(), scripts=['bin/jenkinsmon'], data_files=[ ('/etc/bash_completion.d', ['extras/jenkinsmon.completion']), ], install_requires = [ 'autojenkins', 'argparse' ], ) Now if I try to install the package with pip install -e ., the Bash completion file never gets installed together with the package. I also tried workarounds by specifying a MANIFEST.in, like described here: MANIFEST.in: include extras/jenkinsmon.completion But this also doesn't help - the completion files won't get installed. What can I do to install the Bash completion files?

• Enforce single installation with Innosetup?

  We have an application which we licence to separate companies. The app is customised to fit their brand; basically it is the same app but with a different theme file. We generate separate installers for each vendor as each app requires different configurations (servers to connect to, updates etc). So each installer contains the same compiled application but with different configurations. All of this is managed by our build system so adding a new vendor is just a matter of creating a new theme and a simple include script for Inno Setup. Our problem is that we want to ensure that when a user installs the app from vendor A they will not be able to install it from vendor B unless they explicitly uninstall the existing app. Is there some setting in Inno Setup which will check if there is an existing installation (either from the same vendor or a different one) and tell the user they have to remove the existing installation?

• Eclipse CDT setup for remote build

  Is there a better way to setup Eclipse CDT for local editing and remote building? I am working on a C++ project that uses GNU make in Linux. The code is under CVS on a Linux server. When I'm in the lab, I use Eclipse CDT on a Linux-x64 PC. The project is built on a Linux-x86 PC. All the computers in the lab (including the CVS server) have NFS mounts. When I'm at home, I use Eclipse CDT on a Windows 7 PC. The Windows PC connects to the Linux CVS server via SSH tunnel. To edit source, I rsync the C++ project under the Linux Eclipse workspace back to my Windows Eclipse workspace. (I can also do a remote CVS checkout on the Windows PC.) To build from home, I use a custom build command that SSH's to the Linux-x86 PC, rsync's the C++ project from my Windows Eclipse workspace to my Linux Eclipse workspace, and then runs make on the Liunx-x86 PC, specifying the correct path for the Makefile. In order to go back and forth between lab and home without committing my changes to CVS every time, I use rsync. When I transition from lab to home, I rsync sources to my Windows Eclipse workspace. When I build from home, the sources get rsync'd back to the Linux Eclipse workspace. Is there a better, less wonky way to do this? (I'm NOT interested in remote debugging.)
