  • designing multi module J2EE application

    Might be my question is abstract or out of context, but i am asking here since i have little idea how this happens. I am wondering how big application/ platform break down there application in to multiple module and how they able to manage modules dependencies. For example in some E-commerce application they tend to break down it in various modules like pricing,promotions,shipping.import/export and many more. when we develop those application we hardly think about the underlying modules and how they have been designed to provides functionalists. Most of those module are not web-applications but are standalone module and not deployed in the web-app as jar files. can any one help me to understand how they break up things or is there any standard way to do this.any help/resources to get insight will really be helpful

  • Sql Server Management Studio 2008 - Insert string with more than two lines

    I want to paste a string with more than two lines into a nvarchar(max) cell (right click a Table in Sql Server Management Studio 2008 -- Edit Rows). Unfortunately only the the first line of the string is pasted into the cell. I know, I could write a Insert/Update script for that, but it's not what I'm looking for. I need a quick way to paste some text into some cell. Is there a way to achieve my goal? Thanks in advance.

  • Resources for memory management in embedded application

    How should I manage memory in my mission critical embedded application? I found some articles with google, but couldn't pinpoint a really useful practical guide. The DO-178b forbids dynamic memory allocations, but how will you manage the memory than? preallocate everything in advance and send a pointer to each function that needs allocation? Allocate it on the stack? Use a global static allocator (but then it's very similar to dynamic allocation)? Answers can be of the form of regular answer, reference to a resource, or reference to good opensource embedded system for example. clarification: The issue here is not whether or not memory management is availible for the embedded system. But what is a good design for an embedded system, to maximize reliability.

    Hi everyone, I am working with jsp/servlet project and i have to complete the module of access management to my jsps since I have more than one user with different profile. I defined a table in my database wich resume the profil and the url permitted like that: id_profil :1 url : http://localhost/...xyz.jsp id page 1 Now I am trying to let the menu modified appropriately to the id_profil of the logged user. So there are pages allowed in one profile but must be hidden to others. I have no idea since now how to realize this and it is so important for me. thanks for your help.

  • Restoring and passing data to an already running instance of a .NET application

    The goal is to have an application that runs in the system tray and can either accept user input from its actual GUI (which isn't the actual issue) OR accept command line parameters (that would actually be done via a context menu in windows explorer). Now, while I'm aware that the command line parameters are not exactly possible once the application has started, I need a way to pass data to the already running application instance via some form of handler. I'm thinking maybe define and raise some sort of event? Thanks in advance.

The client requires features such as content staging, approving process before publishing a page, provision for templates (changing which changes the lay out for the whole website), entry and expiry dates for pages and content search. I am planning to use an existing opensource CMS for the work but I am confused as to which one should it be. I need help in deciding whether this approach is good or should i develop my own CMS? and if I do use an opensource one, which one is extensible and customisable enough using .NET?

    Can anyone recommend a good book on Javascript module/application development. I'm a Software Engineer, so I don't need all the intro to programming stuff. What I'm really looking for is: How do you bundle the html/css/javascript together so that you can make one include that will load the whole application. I.e.: <div id="myapplication"></div> ... ... <script src="myapplication.js"> Design patterns are always welcome. I've already read Javascript the good parts, and online guides, but it's hard to find a comprehensive guide/tutorial for specifically this. There's a lot of good "this is a javascript application" and "this is a scalable framework", but I haven't had any luck with "This is how you build a javascript application, including the html and css, and this is how you deliver it nicely". I'm building a small application to start, so I'm not interested in scalability and large-scale development practices, just a nice and comprehensive guide to get me off the ground.

Runs from a Linux server (no ASP.NET). Git integration. GitHub integration is a plus. Tracks bugs and feature requests. Version tracking/scheduling, ie being able to say that a feature will be implemented for version X. I was looking at Redmine, but I don't know about the last item. Is there a plugin for that, perhaps?

  • BRE (Business Rules Engine) Data Services is out...!!!

    A few months ago we at Tellago had open sourced the BizTalk Data Services. We were meanwhile working on other artifacts which comes along with BizTalk Server like the “Business Rules Engine”.  We are happy to announce the first version of BRE Data Services. BRE Data Services is a same concept which we covered through BTS Data Services, providing a RESTFul OData – based API to interact with the Business Rules Engine via HTTP using ATOM Publishing Protocol or JSON as the encoding mechanism.   In the first version release, we mainly focused on the browsing, querying and searching BRE artifacts via a RESTFul interface. Also along with that we provide the functionality to execute Business Rules by inserting the Facts for policies via the IUpdatable implementation of WCF Data Services.   The BRE Data Services API provides a lightweight interface for managing Business Rules Engine artifacts such as Policies, Rules, Vocabularies, Conditions, Actions, Facts etc. The following are some examples which details some of the available features in the current version of the API.   Basic Querying: Querying BRE Policies http://localhost/BREDataServices/BREMananagementService.svc/Policies Querying BRE Rules http://localhost/BREDataServices/BREMananagementService.svc/Rules Querying BRE Vocabularies http://localhost/BREDataServices/BREMananagementService.svc/Vocabularies   Navigation: The BRE Data Services API also leverages WCF Data Services to enable navigation across related different BRE objects. This is a very simple implementations of the executing the policies due to the limitations & restrictions (only primitive types of input parameters which can be passed) currently of the Service Operations of the WCF Data Services. Below is a code sample.                Below is a traced Request/Response message.                                 Ø Second is through the IUpdatable Interface of WCF Data Services. In this method, you can first query the rule which you want to execute and then inserts Facts for that particular Rules and finally when you perform the SaveChanges() call for the IUpdatable Interface API, it executes the policy with the facts which you inserted at runtime. Below is a sample of client side code. Due to the limitations of current version of WCF Data Services where there is no way you can return back the updates happening on the service side back to the client via the SaveChanges() method. Here we are executing the rule passing a serialized XML as Facts and there is no changes made to any data where we can query back to fetch the changes. The future releases will target on technologies like BAM, ESB Toolkit.     Excerpt from PROFIT - ORACLE - by Monica Mehta Yasser Mahmud has seen a revolution in project management over the past decade. During that time, the former Primavera product strategist (who joined Oracle when his company was acquired in 2008) has not only observed a transformation in the way IT systems support corporate projects but the role project portfolio management (PPM) plays in the enterprise. “15 years ago project management was the domain of project management office (PMO),” Mahmud recalls of earlier days. “But over the course of the past decade, we've seen it transform into a mission critical enterprise discipline, that has made Primavera indispensable in the board room. Now, as a senior manager, a board member, or a C-level executive you have direct and complete visibility into what’s kind of going on in the organization—at a level of detail that you're going to consume that information.” Now serving as Oracle’s vice president of product strategy and industry marketing, Mahmud shares his thoughts on how Oracle’s Primavera solutions have evolved and how best-in-class project portfolio management systems can help businesses stay competitive. Profit: What do you feel are the market dynamics that are changing project management today? Mahmud: First, the data explosion. We're generating data at twice the rate at which we can actually store it. The same concept applies for project-intensive organizations. A lot of data is gathered, but what are we really doing with it? Are we turning data into insight? Are we using that insight and turning it into foresight with analytics tools? This is a key driver that will separate the very good companies—the very competitive companies—from those that are not as competitive. Another trend is centered on the explosion of mobile computing. By the year 2013, an estimated 35 percent of the world’s workforce is going to be mobile. That’s one billion people. So the question is not if you're going to go mobile, it’s how fast you are going to go mobile. What kind of impact does that have on how the workforce participates in projects? What worked ten to fifteen years ago is not going to work today. It requires a real rethink around the interfaces and how data is actually presented. Profit: What is the role of project management in this new landscape? Mahmud: We recently conducted a PPM study with the Economist Intelligence Unit centered to determine how important project management is considered within organizations. Our target was primarily CFOs, CIOs, and senior managers and we discovered that while 95 percent of participants believed it critical to their business, only six percent were confident that projects were delivered on time and on budget. That’s a huge gap. Most organizations are looking for efficiency, especially in these volatile financial times. But senior management can’t keep track of every project in a large organization. As a result, executives are attempting to inventory the work being conducted under their watch. What is often needed is a very high-level assessment conducted at the board level to say, “Here are the 50 initiatives that we have underway. How do they line up with our strategic drivers?” This line of questioning can provide early warning that work and strategy are out of alignment; finding the gap between what the business needs to do and the actual performance scorecard. That’s low-hanging fruit for any executive looking to increase efficiency and save money. But it can only be obtained through proper assessment of existing projects—and you need a project system of record to get that done. Over the next decade or so, project management is going to transform into holistic work management. Business leaders will want make sure key projects align with corporate strategy, but also the ability to drill down into daily activity and smaller projects to make sure they line up as well. Keeping employees from working on tasks—even for a few hours—that don’t line up with corporate goals will, in many ways, become a competitive differentiator. Profit: How do all of these market challenges and shifting trends impact Oracle’s Primavera solutions and meeting customers’ needs? Mahmud: For Primavera, it’s a transformation from being a project management application to a PPM system in the enterprise. Also making that system a mission-critical application by connecting to other key applications within the ecosystem, such as the enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain, and CRM systems. Analytics have also become a huge component. Business analytics have made Oracle’s Primavera applications pertinent in the boardroom. Now, as a senior manager, a board member, a CXO, CIO, or CEO, you have direct visibility into what’s going on in the organization at a level that you're able to consume that information. In addition, all of this information pairs up really well with your financials and other data. Certainly, when you're an Oracle shop, you have that visibility that you didn’t have before from a project execution perspective. Profit: What new strategies and tools are being implemented to create a more efficient workplace for users? Mahmud: We believe very strongly that just because you call something an enterprise project portfolio management system doesn’t make it so—you have to get people to want to participate in the system. This can’t be mandated down from the top. It simply doesn’t work that way. A truly adoptable solution is one that makes it super easy for all types users to participate, by providing them interfaces where they live. Keeping that in mind, a major area of development has been alternative user interfaces. This is increasingly resulting in the creation of lighter weight, targeted interfaces such as iOS applications, and smartphones interfaces such as for iPhone and Android platform. Profit: How does this translate into the development of Oracle’s Primavera solutions? Mahmud: Let me give you a few examples. We recently announced the launch of our Primavera P6 Team Member application, which is a native iOS application for the iPhone. This interface makes it easier for team members to do their jobs quickly and effectively. Similarly, we introduced the Primavera analytics application, which can be consumed via mobile devices, and when married with Oracle Spatial capabilities, users can get a geographical view of what’s going on and which projects are occurring in various locations around the world. Lastly, we introduced advanced email integration that allows project team members to status work via E-mail. This functionality leverages the fact that users are in E-mail system throughout the day and allows them to status their work without the need to launch the Primavera application. It comes back to a mantra: provide as many alternative user interfaces as possible, so you can give people the ability to work, to participate, to raise issues, to create projects, in the places where they live. Do it in such a way that it’s non-intrusive, do it in such a way that it’s easy and intuitive and they can get it done in a short amount of time. If you do that, workers can get back to doing what they're actually getting paid for.

    Portal deployments always contain some level of content that requires management. Like peanut butter and jelly, the ying and yang, they are inseparable. Unfortunately, unlike peanut butter and jelly content and portals usually require that an extensive amount of work be completed to create a seamless experience for end users who will be serviced by the portal, as well as for users who will be contributing and managing the content. With WebCenter Suite Oracle has understood this need and addressed it by including Universal Content Management (UCM, formerly Stellent) licensing to allow content to be delivered into the portal from a mature, class-leading content management technology.     With the availability of Oracle UPK 3.6.1 and Enablement Service Pack 1 for Oracle UPK 3.6.1 (Oracle Support login required for both), there are quite a few changes for content admins to absorb. In addition to the support added for dozens of application releases, patches and new target applications, we've also added features to make implementing and using In-Application Support even easier. First, the old Help Menu Integration Guides have been updated and combined into a single In-Application Support Guide. If you integrate UPK content for user assistance, or if you're interested in doing so, read the new guide! It covers all the integration steps, including a section on the new In-Application Support Configuration Utility. If you've integrated content in multiple languages, or if you've ever had to make configuration changes for UPK Help Integration, then you know how cumbersome it was to manually edit javascript files. No longer! The Player now includes a configuration utility that provides a web browser interface for setting all In-Application Support options. From the main screen, you see a list of applications covered by the published content. Clicking on an application name takes you to the edit configuration screen where you can set all Player options for that application. No more digging through the Player folders to find the right javascript file to edit. No complicated javascript syntax to make changes. And with Enablement Service Pack 1 we've added a new feature we're calling the Tabbed Gateway. The Tabbed Gateway is a top-level navigation bar for Help Integration. And all tabs, links, and text are controlled with the Configuration Utility... I think the Tabbed Gateway is a really cool and exciting feature for content launch.   • Oracle Tuxedo JCA Adapter 11gR1

    As part of Tuxedo 11gR1 release, we introduced Oracle Tuxedo JCA Adapter. Tuxedo JCA Adapter is based JCA 1.5 specification and should be deployable on any JCA 1.5 compliant application server. I am saying "should" as we have tested Tuxedo JCA Adapter with WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere and RedHat JBoss only. This adapter provides bi-directional service invocation and transaction and security context propagation from app server to Tuxedo. Basically Tuxedo JCA Adapter provides similar functionality to WebLogic Tuxedo Connector (WTC), if you are already familiar with it. One question we often receive is whether Tuxedo JCA Adapter 11g will interoperate with Tuxedo versions prior to 11g. Answer to this question is yes. Tuxedo JCA Adapter uses Tuxedo domains protocol, is deployed on application server and can interoperate with any current Tuxedo version, starting from version 8.1 and above.
