• Master Reset iPhone - How?

  Actually - I had a problem with my iPhone. My iphone battery was down & it was switched off. I plugged in it for charging, but after some time - iPhone had a complete white screen. I don't know what actually had happened. Every thing was working perfectly. means suppose I press lock ( button on top-right side ) it sounds that iphone is locked. when I pressed home button & slide on bottom of the screen - it sounds that iphone is unlocked - but the only problem was - screen remains "white" only. someone told me - it needs master reset. I went to an engineer & he just master reset to iPhone. I am wondering how an iPhone can be master reset ? can you guide me about it ? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge. Sagar

• OS X not booting after upgrading LibXML2

  I tried upgrading the version of LibXML2 in my machine to run some propietary software. Compiled as 32-bit (-arch i386) and restarted to see if it worked. Now when I try to boot I can only get into the spinning screen and it just sits there. Restarting in verbose mode (Cmd-V) does not show any error in the process, it just freezes after "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete". I can't from any CD either (if I press c on startup it just spins the disk around and then stops in the same spinner screen). I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM to discard any problems with that and it´s still not fixed. Any pointers of what might´ve gone wrong? (Latest gen MBP, running 10.6.3)

BIOS: SATA controller mode set to "RAID" RAID Option ROM utility: both physical drives set up as one logical drive When I came to install Ubuntu (14.04.1), both drives appeared during the setup process. I was only expecting to see the logical drive, although I'm a complete novice with RAID. I've read that the HP Proliant Microservers don't have "proper" RAID support, and require some kind of driver to be installed. I've tried a few HP utilities from the following apt repo: deb http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/repo/mcp wheezy/current non-free On installation, most say "server not supported" Would appreciate your advice.

• Exchange migration to 2007 making Outlook 2003 unable to read meeting requests

  Hi, We are currently moving from Exchange 2003 to 2007 (8.2 build 176.2). We have encounted an issue with one user. In Outlook 2003 when getting a meeting request: "Can't open this item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are nto valid." The item cannot be previewed in the reading pane either. The item can be viewed in OWA and iPhone fine. I've tried with cache mode off and on. Different computers. Same issue. There are the following entries on the account: SMTP [email protected] [email protected] X400 C=AU;A= ;P=Company Name;O=Exchange;S=LastName;G=FirstName; I'm loathe to recreate the account. This will be an extreme last resort. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Winbind group lookup painfully slow

  I am running winbind on an RHEL 6 system. Everything works fine except group lookups, so many commands (including sudo) are painfully slow. I did an strace which shows that winbind looks up every group and every user within each group for the current user. Some of these groups have 20000+ users so a simple sudo can take 60 seconds to complete. I really only care about speeding up the sudo command. Ideal solutions would make it so either: groups with more than X number of users will not be looked up, or sudo bypasses group lookups altogether. • Reboot loop after sysprep of AD machine

  Major screw-up here and I need to find out how much trouble I am in. I have an AD machine that is running Server 2008 R2, hyperv, DHCP and DNS. On the hyperv machine, I have a backup AD instance running along with a handfull of other server 2008 instances. Sysprep was run on the hyperv machine instead of one of the instances. I am attempting to bring the machine back up so I can try a system restore. When I boot the hyperv machine, I get an error that says “Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer , restart the installation” This message occurs in safe mode, AD restore mode and in last known configuration mode. How can I get my OS to boot at this point? Do I need to reinstall 2008 R2 from scratch?

• sharepoint 2007 access denied when accessing user profiles via ssp

  Guys I have a really strange problem in regards to sharepoint mysites today I go into user profiles and properties in order to setup a property all of a sudden I get access denied. First off I know that I'm logged in with the correct account after the access denied I decided to click on personalization services and permissions I than get An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Cannot complete this action. I'm not seeing anything in the server application logs either. So have any of you guys seen this before is there some kind of way to grant a user account the manage profiles right permission using stsadm. BTW all other fucntions of the ssp are working fine so my question is if the user profiles and my sites of a ssp tanks how do you repair that portion of the ssp? BTW the user accounts that I'm using are site collection owners and also they have full control at the web application level. • Munin-cron fails "Nothing to do", possibly a munin.conf problem?

  I have been working on this for a few hours now, and haven't yet been able to get munin to output the html files/generated graphs of resource usage on my CentOS 5.3 server. Here are some things I run as the munin user, and the results: /usr/share/munin/munin-update --nofork --debug (above works fine, takes ~2.4 seconds to complete) munin-run cpu (And other options/plugins (besides 'cpu'), all work fine and give desired output) munin-cron Fails with: [FATAL] There is nothing to do here, since there are no nodes with any plugins. Please refer to http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/FAQ_no_graphs at /usr/share/munin/munin-html line 38 I am wondering if, perhaps, the settings in my munin.conf file might be causing a problem. • Windows Updates Fails Server 2008 0x80070490

  I have a server with Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition installed. This has been installed and running for several months and I have been able to successfully install previous Windows Updates. I have two pending updates that fail to install. (KB967723) Security update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB976098) Update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition Fails with Error code: 80070490 Followed this off Microsoft support site, which basically says to repair Windows with the install DVD. When I get to the step to select upgrade I get the following error. Upgrade has been disabled. The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more recent then the version you are currently running. So basically feel like I've hit a dead end with out doing a complete reinstall. Any ideas ?

• I want to move columns in a gradebook based on the column header title to another gradebook

  I have to average grades based on each objective for a new report card we have to complete this year. For example Column one has students names, each additional column will have the objective associated with the assignment. I would like to move the entire column to another sheet for each objective. Is there a formula or macro that will do that. For example objective 3.1A is in columns 2, 5, and 7, objective 3.2B is located in columns 1, 4, 10, and 12, objective 3.4c is in column 3, 6, 9, and 11. I would like to have a spreadsheet for each objective.

• HP Pavilion: Sound problem after Windows Vista SP2 update

  I have HP Pavilion dv-2051et notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. Recently the sound of my notebook completely went off and I poked up Windows sound settings and IDT HD Sound panel to bring it back, but to no avail (trust me, I looked at every setting). Then I made a system restore to the point located just before Vista SP2 was installed. The sounds came back. Afterwards, I installed Vista SP2 again, and the sounds went off again. SP2 installation causes complete loss of sounds of my notebook. What can I do to overcome this problem? I don't want to stay with SP1 but installing SP2 brings me a huge problem. Anyone experienced this lately? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

• Any screen capture software that captures webcam, microphone inputs too ?

  I am going to conduct a user study. Apart from capturing the screen while the user is interacting with the system, I also want to capture the video/audio of the user. Is there any software that in addition to capturing the screen also overlays it with the webcam/microphone inputs. The goal is to capture the complete experience of the user: key/mouse interactions with the system along with their facial/vocal responses. I know that I can maybe run a screen-capture software and also run a software for capturing webcam audio/video alongside and try to sync/overlay both these streams with timestamps. But I am going to be dealing with probably several hundred hours of data. So I am looking for a tool that can streamline the process for me amap and help me keep my sanity at end of the process. • How to get transparent user interface background in Windows 7

  I use Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently, when I came through Photoshop in OSX, I was interested by its user interface. It has got a "100% transparent" user interface background, whereas it's usually gray in Windows. I googled for some glass solutions, but all of them provide a "transparent window" or a semi-transparent one, which makes the complete window transparent. These solutions do not work for me, as I just need the UI (gray) background transparent but require all the other elements (such as nav-bars, control buttons, etc.) to have no transparency. Below is a screenshot of what I'm saying: Is this a feature of Photoshop only? How can I achieve the same in Windows 7? Thanks in advance...:)

• Making Thunar the default file browser without hiding the desktop icons

  I really dislike Ubuntu's default file browser, nautilus, and decided to opt for a lighter alternative (Thunar or Xfe). I've used the following script to change the default to Thunar, but now all my icons are gone from the desktop ! The files are still there, in /home/myid/Desktop, but they do not appear.   Hi, In the DNS I have setup multiple URLs for my website (all pointing to same server). The entries in DNS looks like as below: Host TTL Numeric IP www .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 @ (None) .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 mycompany .mysite.net 7200 192.168.31.12 I wrote a code on Login.aspx page to check the URL and navigate to appropriate company login page. So if I type www.mysite.net or mysite.net then I am getting navigated to standard login page. But when I type mycompany.mysite.net still I am getting navigated to standard login page. But when I type https://mycompany.mysite.net then I am getting navigated to company specific login page. Why I need to type complete URL with https to get navigated to compay specific login page? Why it is not working just with mycompany.mysite.net? Any help of this is highly appriciated. Thanks, Amit

• Setting a custom timeout to nmblookup

  As part of a batch script, I have the following command: hostname=$(nmblookup -A $ip_address | awk '$2 == "<20>" {print $1}') Which works fine from a functinality perspective, even for unresolved hosts. The problem is that when the IP address is not reachable or the remote machine does not respond to the SMB request, the command takes about ten seconds to complete. Therefore, the question is simple: is there a way to lower the elapsed time in such cases? Or, in other words, is there a way to set a custom timeout for the nmblookup command? NOTE: I'm interested in solutions that do not make use of SIGALRM or similar mechanisms; if they exist. The nmblookup version is 3.6.3 from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

  I'm currently building an API and am looking for a tool to allow me to monitor (in a GUI) and rate limit usage. I've come across a few enterprise solutions including: http://apigee.com/ http://mashery.com/ http://www.layer7tech.com/ http://www.3scale.net/ The Apigee enterprise plan is exactly what I'm looking for but plans start at $3000 / month which is out of my price range. The other solutions are all either to expense or do not provide the solution I'm looking for. This led me to look at some open source options including: http://apiaxle.com/ https://code.google.com/p/varnish-apikey/wiki/UsageManual Varnish seems like a fairly complete solution, however I would need to build a GUI to visualise the data. My final option would to build a solution from scratch using EventMachine and ruby. Any advice?

• Verifying Time Machine backups

  I'm preparing my system for a Snow Leopard upgrade, and I prepare for the worst case scenario: full reinstall and restore. I would like to verify that my Time Machine backups are valid, and will restore correctly. My Time Machine backups go to a Linux server running Netatalk, and the backups complete successfully. How do I do a test restore to an alternative location, or otherwise verify my data without overwriting any existing files? Do I need to save anything in particular externally to make sure I can access the backups if I have to reinstall from scratch?

• How can I kill and wait for background processes to finish in a shell script when I Ctrl+C it?

  I'm trying to set up a shell script so that it runs background processes, and when I ctrl+C the shell script, it kills the children, then exits. The best that I've managed to come up with is this. It appears that kill 0 -INT also kills the script before the wait happens, so the shell script dies before the children complete. • Safari corrupting downloads?

  First off, a bit of background: I had to do an erase and install about 2-3 weeks ago, so this is a fresh, up-to-date installation of Snow Leopard we're dealing with. That said, I decided recently to branch out from simply programming PHP in a text editor and explore some of the other technologies I keep hearing about, and picked up Drupal, Joomla, and the Zend Framework from their respective official sites. Latest complete, stable builds for all 3. Drupal and Joomla downloaded without a problem, but when I put them in my /~username/Sites folder, XAMPP pretends they're not there, even if I restart Apache or the laptop itself. Zend's archive won't open at all. Is Safari corrupting the downloads, or are there other issues in play that can be investigated?

  I have a SonicWall TZ 215 running SonicOS Enhanced 5.8.1.2-6o. I have configured the L2TP VPN using the default crypto suite ESP: 3DES/HMAC SHA1 (IKE). Proposals are as such: IKE (Phase 1) Proposal DH Group: Group 2 Encryption: 3DES Authentication: SHA1 Life Time (seconds): 28800 Ipsec (Phase 2) Proposal Protocol: ESP Encryption: 3DES Authentication: SHA1 Enable Perfect Forward Secrecy DISABLED Life Time (seconds): 28800 When attempting to connect via my Mac OS X client I get an authentication error. It appears to pass the pre-authentication but fails to complete. I am at a complete loss. I reconfigured from scratch multiple times...used simple usernames and passwords to verify this wasn't a miskeyed password issue.   Is it posible to get the original Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit for the Acer Aspire 5740G? I bought this notebook and the license for this Windows is in the package. There is an partition with the data for the recovery. But than, there are a lot of senseless application which I don't want to use. I'm searchin for the complete clear Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried to download the original Windows 7 Home Premium and entered the serial key of the bottom of the laptop but I can't activate my Windows with this key. Any ideas or experiens with this?

• What am I (a beginner) losing, by choosing Cherokee over Apache for serving dynamic content?

  I am a complete beginner and am planning to setup a photo sharing site. This is the setup I am planning, basically for a start - - Cherokee (instead of Apache) for serving dynamic content (python-based application), and Nginx for serving static files. Since, I am a beginner, what have I, to lose? So, can someone, from your experience, please tell me, what I'd lose by choosing Cherokee over Apache for serving dynamic content in PHP/Python/whatever? Anything other than the fact that there's lot of documentation, many people who can help when there's an issue etc as Apache is well established and the most popular web server? Again, my intention is not to spurt a flame war here. Just wanted to know if Cherokee would be better than Apache in terms of performance, reliability, and speed, when it matters (peak load times). Also, I heard it's a lot faster than Apache in serving dynamic content, is it true?

• Create restricted user on Debian server

  I want to create a user account for each of the key programs installed on my debian server. For example, for the following programs: Tomcat Nginx Supervisor PostgreSQL This seems to be recommended based on my reading online. However, I want to restrict these user accounts as much as possible, so that they dont have a shell login, dont have access to the other programs and are as limited as possible but still functional. Would anyone mind telling me how this could be achieved? My reading so far suggests this: echo "/usr/sbin/nologin" >> /etc/shells useradd -s /usr/sbin/nologin tomcat But I think there may be a more complete way of doing it. EDIT: I'm using debian squeeze
