• Can't step into stored procedure on remote SQL Server 2008

  I have a domain installed on virtual Windows Server 2008 x64. SQL Server 2008 Express x64 is running in Windows Server 2008 x64 and client on Windows 7 RTM x86. Both are into the domain. I'm starting both Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008 under domain admin user. This account is a member of group sysadmin on SQL Server. Server has firewall exceptions for both TCP and UDP on ports 135-139 and 1433-1434. Visual Studio 2008 Remote debugger services is started on server and Domain Admins group is allowed to debug, When I'm starting debugging of a query in SMS I'm getting this error: Failed to start debugger Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. • Using Ghostscript in a Webapplication (PDF Thumbnails)

  Hello, i am using the ghostscriptsharp wrapper for c# and ghostscript. I want to generate thumbnails out of pdf-files. Further Information on the sample-code are given here. There are different Methods imported form the ghostscript-c-dll "gsdll32.dll". This class uses the methods imported above. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ GhostscriptWrapper.GeneratePageThumb("c:\\sample.pdf", "c:\\sample.jpg", 1, 100, 100); } When i debug the Web-Application in Visual Studio 2008 by hitting key "F5" it works fine (a new instance of webserver is generated). When i create a WindowsForm Application it works too. The thumbnails get generated. When i access the application with the webbrowser directly (http://localhoast/mywebappliation/..) it doesn't work. No thumbnails are generated. But there is also no exception thrown. I placed the gsdll32.dll in the system32-folder of windows xp. The Ghostscript Runtime is installed too. I have given full access in the IIS-Webproject (.Net 2.0). Does anybody know why i can't access Ghostscript from my webapplication? Are there any security-issues for accessing dll-files on the IIS-Server? Greetings Klaus

  Hello, I was trying to enable navigation based on a selected row. • How do I properly host a WCF Data Service in IIS? Why am I getting errors?

  I'm playing around with WCF Data Services (ADO.NET Data Services). I have an entity framework model pointed at the AdventureWorks database. When I debug my svc file from within Visual Studio, it works great. I can say /awservice.svc/Customers and get back the ATOM feed I expect. If I publish the service (hosted in an ASP.NET web application) to IIS7, the same query string returns a 500 fault. The root svc page itself works as expected and successfully returns ATOM. The /Customers path fails.   I just recently upgraded a VS2008/.NET 3.5 SP1 project to VS2010 and .NET 4. I have a post-build event which calls SGEN to generate the XmlSerializers assembly. Whenever I try to run it I get the following error. Error: An attempt was made to load an assembly with an incorrect format: c:\path\to\someassembly.dll. - Could not load file or assembly 'file:///c:\path\to\someassembly.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. If you would like more help, please type "sgen /?". I get the same error running SGEN from the command line, but I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?

  I have trouble to add new item to my table view with core data. Here is the brief logic in my codes. I think that both the number of objects in my data source or context and the number of rows in my table view should be 1. However, I got an exception in the event of tabView:numberOfRowsInSection: Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section 0. The number of rows contained in an existing section after the update (0) must be equal to the number of rows contained in that section before the update (0), plus or minus the number of rows inserted or deleted from that section (1 inserted, 0 deleted). The exception was raised right after the delegate event: - (NSInteger) tableView:(UITableView *) tableView numberOfRawsInSection:(NSInteger) section { // fetchedResultsController is class member var NSFetchedResultsController id <NSFechedResultsSectionInfo> sectionInfo = [[fetchedResultsController sections] objectAtIndex: section]; NSInteger rows = [sectionInfo numberOfObjects]; return rows; } In debug mode, I found that the rows was still 0 and the event invoked after the the even of toggleEditing. It looks like that sectionInfo obtained from fetchedResultsController did not include the new entity object inserted. Not sure if I miss anything or steps? I am not sure how it works: to get the fetcedResultsController notified or reflect the change when a new entity is inserted into the current managed object context?

  I try to open a specific email attachment type with my activity, the attachment itself is a plain text windows style ini file with the extension *.os. In the email this file is attached as "application/octet-stream". • Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered. • How to use Application Verifier to find memory leaks

  I want to find memory leaks in my application using standard utilities. Previously I used my own memory allocator, but other people (yes, you Neil) suggested to use Microsoft's Application Verifier, but I can't seem to get it to report my leaks. I have the following simple application: #include <iostream> #include <conio.h> class X { public: X::X() : m_value(123) {} private: int m_value; }; void main() { X *p1 = 0; X *p2 = 0; X *p3 = 0; p1 = new X(); p2 = new X(); p3 = new X(); delete p1; delete p3; } This test clearly contains a memory leak: p2 is new'd but not deleted. I build the executable using the following command lines: cl /c /EHsc /Zi /Od /MDd test.cpp link /debug test.obj I downloaded Application Verifier (4.0.0665) and enabled all checks. If I now run my test application I can see a log of it in Application Verifier, but I don't see the memory leak. Questions: Why doesn't Application Verifier report a leak? Or isn't Application Verifier really intended to find leaks? If it isn't which other tools are available to clearly report leaks at the end of the application (i.e. not by taking regular snapshots and comparing them since this is not possible in an application taking 1GB or more), including the call stack of the place of allocation (so not the simple leak reporting at the end of the CRT) If I don't find a decent utility, I still have to rely on my own memory manager (which does it perfectly).

  When I run my Unit Tests, all tests pass, but instead of "Test run succeeded" or whatever the success message is, I get "Test run error" in the little bar that tells me how many of my tests pass, even though all my tests passed. When i click the text, I'm taken to a page that tells me the following two things happened: Warning: conflict during test run deployment: deployment item '[...]\Booking.Web.dll' directly or indirectly referenced by the test container [...]\Booking.Web.Tests.dll cannot be deployed to 'Booking.Web.dll' because otherwise the file '[...]\Booking.Web.dll' would override deployment item '[...]\Booking.Web.dll' directly or indirectly referenced by '[...]\Booking.Web.Tests.dll' Error: Cannot initialize the ASP.NET project 'Booking.Web' Exception was thrown: The website could not be configured correctly; getting ASP.NET proccess information failed. Requesting 'http://localhost:54131/VSEnterpriseHelper.axd' returned an error: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. I don't understand half of what it's complaining about. How do I get rid of these errors? (And for reference: Booking.Web is an ASP.NET MVC 2 project, Booking.Web.Tests is a Test project, [...] is the full local path to the projects in my environment, in most of the cases above to the /bin/debug/ folder inside the Booking.Web project)

  I've found what I think may be a bug with Ivar and Objective-C runtime. I'm using XCode 3.2.1 and associated libraries, developing a 64 bit app on X86_64 (MacBook Pro). Where I would expect the type encoding for the following "longVal" to be 'l', the Ivar encoding is showing a 'q' (which is a 'long long'). Anyone else seeing this?   I want to learn to use Fluent NHibernate, and I'm working in VS2010 Beta2, compiling against .NET 4, but I'm experiencing some problems. Summary My main problem (at the moment) is that the namespace FluentNHibernate isn't available even though I've imported all the .dll assemblies mentioned in this guide. This is what I've done: 1. I downloaded the Fluent NHibernate source from here, extracted the .zip and opened the solution in VS. A dialog asked me if I wanted to convert the solution to a VS2010 solution, so I did. 2. I then went into each project's properties and configured all of them to compile for .NET 4, and built the entire solution. 3. I copied all the .dll files from /bin/Debug/ in the FluentNHibernate to a new folder on my local hard drive. 4. In my example project, I referenced FluentNHibernate.dll and NHibernate.dll from the new folder. This is my problem: If I right-click on FluentNHibernate in the References list and select "View in Object Browser...", it shows up correctly. Now, when I try to create a mapping class, I can't import FluentNHibernate. This code: using FluentNHibernate.Mapping; namespace FluentNHExample.Mappings { } generates an error on the using statement, saying The type or namespace 'FluentNHibernate' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?). The FluentNHibernate assembly is still in the list of References of my project, but if I try to browse the assembly in Object Browser again, it can't be found. What is causing this?

• Empty responseText from XMLHttpRequest

  I have written an XMLHttpRequest which runs fine but returns an empty responseText. The javascript is as follows: var anUrl = "http://api.xxx.com/rates/csv/rates.txt"; var myRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); callAjax(anUrl); function callAjax(url) { myRequest.open("GET", url, true); myRequest.onreadystatechange = responseAjax; myRequest.setRequestHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache"); myRequest.send(null); } function responseAjax() { if(myRequest.readyState == 4) { if(myRequest.status == 200) { result = myRequest.responseText; alert(result); alert("we made it"); } else { alert( " An error has occurred: " + myRequest.statusText); } } } The code runs fine. I can walk through and I get the readyState == 4 and a status == 200 but the responseText is always blank. I am getting a log error (in Safari debug) of Error dispatching: getProperties which I cannot seem to find reference to. I have run the code in Safari and Firefox both locally and on a remote server. The URL when put into a browser will return the string and give a status code of 200. I wrote similar code to the same URL in a Mac Widget which runs fine, but the same code in a browser never returns a result.

• Handling async ASMX web service exceptions

  Hi, I've developed silverlight client with makes async web services calls to a asmx web service. The problem is, I want to handle exceptions, so far as to be able to tell in the client application whether there was an exception in the webservice (and therefore will be logged local to the webservice) or whether there was a communication problem (i.e. the endpoint for the webservice was wrong). In testing both types of exceptions in my project I get the same generic exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: The remote server returned an error: NotFound. This exception is amazingly useless when an exception occured in the webservice as it clearly has been found. Is the presence of this generic error to do with security (not being allowed to see true errors)? It can't be the fact that I don't have debug strings as I'm running on a dev PC. Either way, my question is, what's the best way to handle async errors in a commercial silverlight application? Any links or ideas are most welcome! :) Thanks a lot! Andy.
