• A tool to aid completion of missing or incomplete source code documentation

  I have several finished, older PHP projects with a lot of includes that I would like to document in javadoc/phpDocumentor style. While working through each file manually and being forced to do a code review alongside the documenting would be the best thing, I am, simply out of time constraints, interested in tools to help me automate the task as much as possible. The tool I am thinking about would ideally have the following features: Parse a PHP project tree and tell me where there are undocumented files, classes, and functions/methods (i.e. elements missing the appropriate docblock comment) Provide a method to half-way easily add the missing docblocks by creating the empty structures and, ideally, opening the file in an editor (internal or external I don't care) so I can put in the description. Optional: Automatic recognition of parameter types, return values and such. But that's not really required. The language in question is PHP, though I could imagine that a C/Java tool might be able to handle PHP files after some tweaking. Looking forward to your suggestions! Bounty There are already very good suggestions for this (that I have not yet had the time to check out) to point out the gaps, but none yet providing aid in filling them. I want to give the question some more exposure, maybe there is some sort of a graphical extension to php_codesniffer to achieve the level of automation I'm dreaming of. What I want would be for them to be rendered, and the remaining row (the product-specific columns) to be empty. Is there a way to do this? Note: I have also tried nested rich:datatables, but the internal columns do not overlap with the outer columns containing the header. With rich:subtable the inner columns overlap with the outer columns and show nice.

• WCF Ria Services Error : Load operation failed for query 'GetTranslationProgress'

  Hello, I am using WCF Ria Services beta in my silverlight application. I have a long running task on the server which keeps writing its status to a database table. I have a "GetTranslationProgress" Ria Service Query method which queries the state to get the status. This query method is called continuously at a regular interval of 5 seconds until a status = Finished or Error is retrieved. In some cases if the task on the server is running for a long duration 2-3 minutes then I receives this error:- Load operation failed for query 'GetTranslationProgress'. The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error. at System.Windows.Ria.OperationBase.Complete(Exception error) at System.Windows.Ria.LoadOperation.Complete(Exception error) at System.Windows.Ria.DomainContext.CompleteLoad(IAsyncResult asyncResult) at System.Windows.Ria.DomainContext.<c_DisplayClass17.b_13(Object ) The error occurs intermittently and I have no idea what could be causing this error. I have checked most of the forums and sites but I have not been able to find out any solution to this issue. Please help.

• Binding to an ObservableCollection attached property.

  I want to create an attached property of type ObservableCollection<Notification> and bind it to a property of the same type on the DataContext. A 'Binding' can only be set on a DependencyProperty of a DependencyObject. This only seems to be a problem when the attached property is of type ObservableCollection so it seems like WPF is trying to do something magical when binding properties of this type and getting confused in the process. Anyone know what I need to do to make it work?

• EWS 2010: Public Folder Problem using .NET

  I've recently coded a .NET Console app using C#. It's purpose was to read the emails within a specific folder, parse them for specific values and save them to a database. Our email system, at the time I originally coded this, was Exchange 2003. However, I was made aware we would soon be upgrading to Exchange 2010: ergo, I built the code to work in both environments. Following the migration to 2010, however, the app has broken. The app uses the EWS API for 2010 functionality. When it attempts to use the ExchangeService's FindFolders method to find the publicfoldersroot, it throws an exception. Here's the code: ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(); FindFoldersResults findRootFldrs; service.UseDefaultCredentials = true; service.AutodiscoverUrl("[email protected]", delegate(string x) { return true; }); FolderView fview = new FolderView(100); fview.Traversal = FolderTraversal.Deep; if (findRootFldrsSub == null) { //Set to root to test local folders -- findRootFldrs = service.FindFolders(WellKnownFolderName.PublicFoldersRoot, fview); } The exception: "The mailbox that was requested doesn't support the specified RequestServerVersion" I've attempted: -Setting the exchangeservice to 2007 (throws an exception: "An internal server error occurred. The operation failed.") -Giving myself the highest level of permission to the Public Folder (no effect) -Manually setting my credentials (no effect) I can view the public folders in outlook; the publicfoldersroot property is available in the intellisense; the code works on local folders (I can parse my inbox). My current thinking is that it's a setting on the recent setup of Exchange 2010: unfortunately that isn't really my field.

• ReflectionTypeLoadException with Silverlight serialization attributes

  Hi all, I´m trying to inspect the types in a silverlight 4 assembly from a .NET 3.5 application. I have loaded the silverlight assembly with a Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoadFrom sentence. contractsAssembly = Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoadFrom(contractsAssemblyPath); When the .NET application tries to perform a call to GetTypes(), it throws a ReflectionTypeLoadException. Type[] types = contractsAssembly.GetTypes(); The LoaderExceptions property in the ReflectionTypeLoadException contains a list of exceptions, all of them regarding a problem loading a type that has serialization attributes. Type 'XXXX' in assembly 'YYYY' has method 'OnSerializing' with an incorrect signature for the serialization attribute that it is decorated with. The type XXXX has the following definitions in it: [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnSerializing] public void OnSerializing(System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext context) [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnSerialized] public void OnSerialized(System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext context) [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnDeserializing] public void OnDeserializing(System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext context) [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnDeserialized] public void OnDeserialized(System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext context) I have tried changing the method signature to internal or private, but with no luck. However, I see that .NET tools such as Reflector can inspect this Silverlight assembly, so there is a way to inspect Silverlight assemblies with serialization attributes from a .NET applciation. At first, I thought that my tokenizer class was broken. But after logging all the incoming bytes to the tokenizer, it turns out that the raw bytes in recvb weren't a valid message. I didn't think that corrupted data like this was possible with a tcp data stream. I figured it had to be some type of buffer overflow so I set sock.ReceiveBufferSize = 1024 * 1024 * 8; and the parsing error never, ever occurs in testing (it happens often enough to replicate if I don't change the ReceiveBufferSize). But my question is: why wasn't I seeing an exception or an error state or something if the socket's internal buffer was overflowing before I changed this buffer size?

• How to prevent duplicate records being inserted with SqlBulkCopy when there is no primary key

  I receive a daily XML file that contains thousands of records, each being a business transaction that I need to store in an internal database for use in reporting and billing. I was under the impression that each day's file contained only unique records, but have discovered that my definition of unique is not exactly the same as the provider's. The current application that imports this data is a C#.Net 3.5 console application, it does so using SqlBulkCopy into a MS SQL Server 2008 database table where the columns exactly match the structure of the XML records. Each record has just over 100 fields, and there is no natural key in the data, or rather the fields I can come up with making sense as a composite key end up also having to allow nulls. Currently the table has several indexes, but no primary key. Basically the entire row needs to be unique. If one field is different, it is valid enough to be inserted. I looked at creating an MD5 hash of the entire row, inserting that into the database and using a constraint to prevent SqlBulkCopy from inserting the row,but I don't see how to get the MD5 Hash into the BulkCopy operation and I'm not sure if the whole operation would fail and roll back if any one record failed, or if it would continue. The file contains a very large number of records, going row by row in the XML, querying the database for a record that matches all fields, and then deciding to insert is really the only way I can see being able to do this. I was just hoping not to have to rewrite the application entirely, and the bulk copy operation is so much faster. Does anyone know of a way to use SqlBulkCopy while preventing duplicate rows, without a primary key? Or any suggestion for a different way to do this?

  Should the view have nothing event specific in its interface and call the presenter plain methods to handle events and not have any official EventHandlers? My intention is to understand the benefits of each style and not just a blanket answer of which to use. My main goals is clarity and high value testability. Testability overall is important, but I wouldn't sacrifice design simplicity and clarity to be able to add another type of test that doesn't lead to too much gain over the test cases already possible with a simpler design. If a design choice does off more testability please include an example (pseudo code is fine) of the type of test it can now offer so I can make my decision if I value that type of extra test enough.   I am thinking about getting one of these (PCI) to set up an internal entropy pool similar to this service who incidentally brought us fun captcha challenges. Prior to lightening my wallet, I'm hoping to gather feedback from people who may be using this device. As there is no possible 'correct' answer, I am making this CW and tagging it as subjective. I'm undertaking a project to help write Monte Carlo simulations for a non profit that distributes mosquito nets in Malaria stricken areas. The idea is to model areas to determine the best place to distribute mosquito nets. During development, I expect to consume gigs if not more of the RNG output. We really need our own source. Is this device reliable? Does it have to be re-started often? Is its bandwidth really as advertised? It passes all tests, as far as randomness goes (i.e. NIST/DIEHARD). What I don't want is something in deadlock due to some ioctl in disk sleep that does nothing but radiate heat. This is not a spamvertisement, I'm helping out of pocket and I really, really want to know if such a large purchase will bear fruit. I can't afford to build a HRNG based on radioactive decay, this looks like the next best thing. Any comments are appreciated. I will earn zero rep for this, please do not vote to close. This is no different than questions regarding the utilization of some branded GPU for some odd purpose. Answers pointing to other solutions will be gladly accepted, I'm not married to this idea.

• Rhino Mocks, Dependency Injection, and Separation of Concerns

  I am new to mocking and dependency injection and need some guidance. My application is using a typical N-Tier architecture where the BLL references the DAL, and the UI references the BLL but not the DAL. Pretty straight forward. Lets say, for example, I have the following classes: class MyDataAccess : IMyDataAccess {} class MyBusinessLogic {} Each exists in a separate assembly. I want to mock MyDataAccess in the tests for MyBusinessLogic. So I added a constructor to the MyBusinessLogic class to take an IMyDataAccess parameter for the dependency injection. But now when I try to create an instance of MyBusinessLogic on the UI layer it requires a reference to the DAL. I thought I could define a default constructor on MyBusinessLogic to set a default IMyDataAccess implementation, but not only does this seem like a codesmell it didn't actually solve the problem. I'd still have a public constructor with IMyDataAccess in the signature. So the UI layer still requires a reference to the DAL in order to compile. One possible solution I am toying with is to create an internal constructor for MyBusinessLogic with the IMyDataAccess parameter. Then I can use an Accessor from the test project to call the constructor. But there's still that smell. What is the common solution here. I must just be doing something wrong. How could I improve the architecture?

  I have an MS SQL function that is called with the following syntax: SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) AS RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable('WHERE ClientID = 7 AND LocationName = ''Default'' ', 10) The first parameter passes a specific WHERE clause that is used by the function for one of the internal queries. • How can I run BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. • Why is it so difficult to get a working IDE for Scala?

  I recently gave up trying to use Scala in Eclipse (basic stuff like completion doesn't work). So now I'm trying IntelliJ. I'm not getting very far. This was the original error. See below for update: Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. I've deployed the webpage and the WCF webservice to that machine. • Need advice or pointers on Release Management Strategies

  I look after an internal web based (Java, JSP, Mediasurface, etc.) system that is in constant use (24/5). Users raise tickets for enhancements, bug fixes and other business changes. These issues are signed off individually and assigned to one of three or four developers. Once the issue is complete it is built and the code only committed to SVN. The changed files (templates, html, classes, jsp) are then copied to a dev server and committed to a different repository from where they are checked out to the UAT server for testing. (this often requires the Tomcat service to be restarted and occasionally the Mediasurface service as well). The users then test and either reject or approve the release. If approved the edited files are checked out to the Live server and the same process as with UAT undertaken. If rejected the developer makes the relevant changes and starts the release process again. This is all done manually without much control. Where different developers are working on similar files, changes sometimes get overwritten by builds done on out of sync code in other cases changes in UAT are moved to live in error as they are mixed up in files associated with a signed off release. I would like to move this to a more controlled and automated process where all source code and output files are held in SVN and releases to Dev, UAT and Live managed by a CI system (We have TeamCity in house for our .NET applications). My question is on how to manage the releases of multiple changes where some will be signed off and moved on and others rejected and returned to the developer. The changes may be on overlapping files and simply merging each release in to a Release Branch means that the rejected changes would have to be backed out of the branch. Is there a way to manage this using SVN and CI or will I simply have to live with the current system.

  I am trying to use a custom title to include an image button to the title bar. I got a lot of help form this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2569753/android-adding-button-to-the-title-of-the-app, but could not get it work for my ListActivity. In a nutshell, following is what I have: I hide the titlebar in the AndroidManifest.xml The specify a relative layout for the custom title (workorder_list_titlebar.xml) My Activity Class looks like the following: public class WorkOrderListActivity extends ListActivity { String[] orders={"WO-12022009", "WO-12302009", "WO-02122010", "02152010"}; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE); this.getWindow().setFeatureInt(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE, R.layout.workorder_list_titlebar); setContentView(R.layout.workorder_list); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter(this,R.layout.workorder_list, R.id.label,orders)); } } When I ran the app, I got AndroidRuntimeException: You cannot combine custom titles with other title features. Base on the stack trace, the exception was thrown by com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.requestFeature(PhoneWindow.java:183), that was triggered by setlistAdapter call. Does anyone have the same problem with ListActivity? Also once I manage to get this work, how do I attach listeners to the image button for it to do something? Thanks in advance.

• Custom GTK widget to bypass GTK layout engine?

  I have an application layer that I'd like to port to Gtk that has all it's own layout code and I don't really want to spend 'n' months re-writting it to work with the Gtk layout system, but rather just using the existing internal layout code and have Gtk render the resulting widgets. I've started by writting my own widget after trying several of the built in containers. Basically I'm looking for something like the GtkFixed container that doesn't have a minimum size, i.e. Gtk will fit the first widget to the entire window, and all the child widgets will lay themselves out so that they fill the area. If I use GtkFixed for that, the window is always limited to the size of the initial layout, as thats the "requested" space. I can't resize it smaller than that using the edges of the window decor. Maybe I need schooling in allocation vs requesting. My googling so far hasn't found the information I need to make this work. I did try. I'm using the C api at the moment, and I'm targetting Win32 and Linux. So far I have a shell app working in Win32 that puts up an empty window. But the first child widget is limiting the resizing to it's initial size.

  I like MVVM. I don't love it, but like it. Most of it makes sense. But, I keep reading articles that encourage you to write a lot of code so that you can write XAML and don't have to write any code in the code-behind. Let me give you an example. Recently I wanted to hookup a command in my ViewModel to a ListView MouseDoubleClickEvent. I wasn't quite sure how to do this. Fortunately, Google has answers for everything. Some of the aforementioned solutions rendered the WPF designer unusable because of a common hack of appending "Internal" after a dependency property; the WPF designer can't find it, but the CLR can. Some of the solutions didn't allow multiple commands to the same control. Some of the solutions didn't allow parameters. After experimenting for a few hours I just decided to do this: private void ListView_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { ListView lv = sender as ListView; MyViewModel vm = this.DataContext as MyViewModel; vm.DoSomethingCommand.Execute(lv.SelectedItem); } So, MVVM purists, please tell me what's wrong with this? • ASP.NET MVC Session Expiration

  We have an internal ASP.NET MVC application that requires a logon. Log on works great and does what's expected. We have a session expiration of 15 minutes. After sitting on a single page for that period of time, the user has lost the session. If they attempt to refresh the current page or browse to another, they will get a log on page. We keep their request stored so once they've logged in they can continue on to the page that they've requested. This works great. However, my issue is that on some pages there are AJAX calls. For example, they may fill out part of a form, wander off and let their session expire. When they come back, the screen is still displayed. If they simply fill in a box (which will make an AJAX call) the AJAX call will return the Logon page (inside of whatever div the AJAX should have simply returned the actual results). This looks horrible. I think that the solution is to make the page itself expire (so that when a session is terminated, they automatically are returned to the logon screen without any action by them). However, I'm wondering if there are opinions/ideas on how best to implement this specifically in regards to best practices in ASP.NET MVC.

• Recover files from corrupt filesystem

  My situation: I have an older 80GB IDE internal hdd, with a few files on that I would like very much to recover: some word documents some latex documents (text files) and pictures (png, jpg, eps files) some other text documents and visual studio project files I had backed them (not the latex ones though) up using svn, but have not committed lately, and would loose a lot of work if I cant recover. the hdd seems to have lost its filesystem, i have no idea how it came about. I know it has/had 3 NTFS partitions, i know the files i want are on the second or third partition. I read http://superuser.com/questions/81877/recover-hard-disk-data Partition Find and Mount did not see all the partitions using intelligent scan TestDisk does (i think), I followed the step by step instructions here, but when I try to list the files it says: "Can't open filesystem, filesystem seems damaged." I'm not sure how to proceed here, as TestDisks wiki does not contain this error message afaik. I don't know if the hdd is gonna fail, or some prog has caused the filesystem to be corrupt, the hdd doesnt make a sound, so i guess that's good. I would like some guidance so I don't accidentally cause more damage. (eg. is it ok to let testdisk write the filesystem to disk? I'm pretty the partitions are listed ok, but not 100%)
