  • using FUNCTION instead of CREATE FUNCTION oracle pl/sql

    I see people writing a function with FUNCTION instead "CREATE FUNCTION". When I saw this usage in the web I thought it was a typo or something. But in Oreilly's "Oracle 11g PL/SQL Programming" by Steven Feurenstein, the author had used the same thing. But I get errors when I execute that. Could somebody explain is it legal usage or not?.     I'm currently using Windows Authentication with 2 Oracle servers - SP3DSMP1 & SP3DSMP4. I created a database link on SMP1 to connect to SMP4 as: SQL create public database link LINK_SMP4 2 connect to CURRENT_USER 3 using 'SP3DSMP4'; Database link created. However when I try to do a query, I get the error: ERROR at line 1: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied Any ideas what might be wrong here? thanks Sunit

    I want to search a word in string in ORACLE in which string is comma separated. Eg. String is ('MF1,MF2,MF3') and now I want to search whether 'MF' exists in that or not. If I am using instr('MF1,MF2,MF3','MF') it will give wrong result since I want to search Full MF in MF1 or MF2 or MF3.

    hi all, i've been reinstalling my oracle and somehow when im trying to start them, it says that apphelp.dll is missing. when i lookup in c:/window/systems32 the apphelp.dll was there. i also download new from internet and try to replace them in case it crash but it said that i cannot delete the file coz it's still running. my question is, if i was doing the right thing by replacing the apphelp.dll can solve my problem, how can i stop this apphelp.dll? thanks

    how to increase the limit of exceptions in oracle ? i have a excel sheet in which their are about 900 records to be appended .so i converted the excel to dat file and wrote a batch file that read from the dat file and appends it to the concern table but the batch file stop execution once the exceptions reach 51(all integrity constrain parent key not found) so the remaining valid files are not updated .its very difficult to find which record has integrity constrain is there a way to increase this exception limit ?

    I am running the Java 7 JRE from Oracle. I installed it through terminal and it works properly with my web browsers, and otherwise, as far as I can tell. However, I was browsing through my installed packages in Software Center, and noticed that both the 'openjdk-7-jre-lib' and 'openjdk-7-jre-headless' packages were still installed from when I had the OpenJKD JRE installed, which I have since uninstalled, but did use for a good period of time before I switched. Should those be there, or might they cause complications if I leave them installed? Or would it be best to leave them installed?

    We have a stored procedure in Oracle that uses global temporary tables. In most of our other stored procedures, first thing we do is delete data from global temporary tables. However, in few of the stored procedures we do not have the delete's. Are there any other options other than adding the delete statements? Can something be done on the Server side to forcefully delete data from those temporary tables when that SP is ran?

    I am getting passed comma seperated values to a stored procedure in oracle. I want to treat these values as a table so that I can use them in a query like: select * from tabl_a where column_b in (<csv values passed in>) What is the best way to do this in 11g? Right now we are looping through these one by one and inserting them into a gtt which I think is ineffecient. Any pointers?
