  I'm trying to speed up a wordpress site -- this site: http://richardclunan.net I'm following the observations here: http://gtmetrix.com/reports/richardclunan.net/9ps7Zc0j The first item says: "The following cacheable resources have a short freshness lifetime. Specify an expiration at least one week in the future for the following resources:" How do I specify expirations for those things? (I'm not very technically-minded, and likely won't know relevant terminology -- really appreciate baby-steps explanation if possible :)

• Homepage issue on Google [closed]

  We have recently updated our website www.blinds4uk.co.uk with a new homepage containing additional features and more on page content but since then we have lost primary keyword positions and the home page has disappeared completely. The only time it appears is for an exact search ‘blinds4uk’. Today I took snippets of 'unique content' from the homepage and put this into the 'google search' but our homepage was nowhere to be found. When I did the same in ‘Yahoo’ the homepage came up. Are we missing something? We ranked in the top 4 for primary kw terms 'blinds uk' & 'uk blinds' but now we don’t show anywhere for these terms. Our homepage has never ranked well for the primary kw 'blinds' yet our internal pages rank very well with many pages on page 1 of google uk. We employed an SEO firm for 9 months to help us establish issues with the homepage but they never could, so we got rid. We have been trying to get to the root cause of why the homepage ranks so poorly for a number of years and only yesterday we established that we had the meta tag directly below the tag and our title & meta description were further down the page; we have today corrected. Not sure what effect this would have on the way Google reads the homepage but we are trying everything to try and get the homepage ranking fro those primary kw's. Our current developers & ex SEO guys are all part of the same company and cannot pin-point anything other than saying carryon with their SEO team because it will take time but just comes across as a milking exercise. Another thing which I have found very strange is the data from our 'traffic audience'. We are a UK based website yet our traffic stats were showing as;- UK 36.6%, Denmark 35.8% and India 27.6%. – don’t make sense to me! Is there anybody out there that could simply point us in the right direction to the problem(s), so we can fix once and for all? Could there be anything within the code that is causing the home page not to display within google for our primary kw's terms such as blinds, window blinds etc. I would appreciate any advice at all that may help us in our quest to sort this homepage issue once and for all

• Blogger homepage won't update!

  i am new on blogging webmaster Tools. When i usually add new post to my blog, it will automatic updated my homepage also. But from last 14th January, my homepage won't update by Google SEPR. As a result i am losing my popularity on SEPR. Previously when i post new article, 70-80% will go to the first page result. But after the problem occurs, none of them reach in top 15page of Google SEPR :( Last 1/12/12, Google webmaster sent me a "Notice of DMCA removal from Google Search" massage to indicates one of my URL that contains some infringing content which i deleted after receiving their notice. Not only that, i also cheeked all of my posts if there any additional infringing content available. After removing that, i fill out Google's Content Removed Notification form to notify them and Google also sent me a feedback that they received it and suggest "In the future, if you have removed the allegedly infringing content from your site (and won’t put it back), please use the correct form" which also i filled up. Now my question is that, Is everything alright which i did before? Although my new posts are indexed in GSEPR with ".." but why Google Robots.txt won't update my homepage which previously automatically updated when a new article was published.

The domain owner wants me to give him my Godaddy account information and send him the payment via Paypal gift, so that there will be no extra charges. Should this cause suspicion? Does Paypal offer any kind of fraud protection? What is the best way to protect myself from fraud in this situation, without the need for escrow services, such as escrow.com? Any advice welcomed.   Will adding the UA code of the live site to a revision site affect anything adversely? They are, technically, two different sites with different metrics. I don't want to lose the old data when I initiate the new site, of course. I would also like to work on setting up the new analytics page while the revision site is in development. Does anyone have any good workflows on setting up a revision site without losing old site data?

• visit counts in advanced segments not consistant

  My organization has recently noticed an issue when applying advanced segments to visit counts during different time ranges. With no advanced segments turned on, here are the visit counts for Oct 1st - Oct 4th during the time range Sept 8th - Oct 8th: Oct 1 - 7 Oct 2 - 7 Oct 3 - 8 Oct 4 - 5 Again, with no advanced segments turned on, here are the visit counts for Oct 1st - Oct 4th but I've changed the time range to Oct 1st - Oct 4th. As expected, the numbers are the exact same as above: Oct 1 - 7 Oct 2 - 7 Oct 3 - 8 Oct 4 - 5 Now, I turn on the "Non paid search traffic" advanced segment. Here are the visit counts for Oct 1st - Oct 4th during the time range Sept 8th - Oct 8th: Oct 1 - 0 Oct 2 - 0 Oct 3 - 0 Oct 4 - 2 Here is where it gets weird. I keep the advanced segment on, and change the time range to Oct 1st - Oct 4th. This is what I get for the exact same dates as above: Oct 1 - 4 Oct 2 - 2 Oct 3 - 6 Oct 4 - 5 We've found the same inconsistency in our other GA profiles that get much more traffic (the above numbers come from one of our specialized topic blogs), but the inconsistency is less pronounced where there are more visits. My question is: why are the visit counts different for different time ranges when advanced segments are turned on, but exactly the same when no advanced segments are applied? Is this a GA bug or am I missing something about how the advanced segments work?

  Many years ago we purchased a domain from Yahoo. Now our website is hosted on Amazon EC2. The output of an SPF checking tool (http://www.kitterman.com/getspf2.py) says SPF records are primarily published in DNS as TXT records. The TXT records found for your domain are: i=182&m=bizmail-mx2-p9 SPF records should also be published in DNS as type SPF records. No type SPF records found. Checking to see if there is a valid SPF record. No valid SPF record found of either type TXT or type SPF. Where do I get access to these values? Can somebody speculate, where can I find an interface, or a configuration file to fill in the missing fields?

• Using AWS or Azure, what to do about emails?

  I'm coming from a background of paying a hosting company X amount per month for a server. This server comes with IIS, WebsitePanel and Smartermail all bundled together. When I create a new domain using WebsitePanel it automatically creates my email account. All I then need to do is configure my DNS to point to the server. I've decided that it is more cost efficient to move to AWS / Azure. Has anyone come from a similar background and moved onto a cloud system? I'd be interested to know what you did regarding emails. So far, these are the suggestions I've seen: Use Google Apps for each domain Use something like Elastic Email to sent out emails Launch a new instance and host an email server on that The first option seems like quite a lot of manual configuration, the second one works good with outgoing emails but what about receiving? Option 3 would make it less cost effective. What is your experience?

  Alright, so unlike other solutions I only want one subdomain to appear to be added. Say I wanted example.com/folder/page.php to be displayed as foo.example.com/folder/page.php, how would I go about doing this? The foo will never change, and it only needs to be for one page. Various other sites have been unable to provide an answer, thanks in advance. Edit: Oh, and I also have full DNS records to the domain.

  I have a static mockup page, which I want to "customize" by switching a variable used in image-src and link-href attributes. Paths will look like this: <img src="/some/where/VARIABLE/img/1.jpg" alt="" /> <link rel="some" href="/some/where/VARIABLE/stuff/foo.bar" /> I'm setting a cookie with the VARIABLE value on the preceding page and now want to modfiy the paths accordingly by replacing VARIABLE with the cookie value. I'm a htaccess newbie. This is what I have (doesn't work): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> # get cookie value cookie RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} client=([^;]*) # rewrite/redirect to correct file RewriteRule ^/VARIABLE/(.+)$ /%1/$1 [L] </IfModule> So I thought my first line gets the cookie value and stores this in %1. And on the second line I'm filtering VARIABLE, replace it with the cookie value and whatever comes after VARIABLE in $1. Thanks for sheeding some light on what I'm doing, doing wrong and if I can do this at all using htaccess. EDIT: I'm sort of halfway through, but it's still not working...   Most people's home page is google.com. My homepage is just a custom html page hosted on my computer. I do this because I am a web developer, and I have several projects that I work on a one time, so I like to have quick links to all of them. On that page I usually just have a Link to google.com for when I want to search. But below all of my quick links, I want to add a google search box (with Autocompletions). I first used a simple iframe to embed google.com into the page, but then my search results were confined to that iframe. I wanted to search for something, then my results would open in a new tab. I then came across this code snippet but it doesn't have Autocompletions: http://www.refactory.org/s/google_search/view/2 How can I add Autocompletions to this? Or is there a better way of doing it?   I have a client who currently runs a venue and has ticket purchases made available through a third party. The way the site currently works is that there is a standard href in the nav menu to the ticket purchasing site. <a href'http://example.com/events'>Events</a> <a href'http://example.com/about'>About</a> <a href'https://someticketvendor.com/myclient?blah'>Tickets</a> They claim that they want to improve their SEO by appearing to integrate the ticket pages into their site. Having spoken to the ticket vendor, they only offer integration through iframes which is just horrible. I don't really know much about SEO but I'm wondering if I can create an htaccess rule to have http://example.com/tickets forward to href'https://someticketvendor.com/myclient?blah Are they are any negative SEO implications to doing this? Is there a better way this could be done?

I managed to make this random selection static for a day, i mean the list will be renewed each day and not change on every page refresh. • On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

  Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! • Browser window size statistics?

  I was wondering, are there any statistics available on what size users have their browser set to nowadays? I know the screen resolutions (we have analytics, which shows those as well) but I doubt a lot of people with 1280*xxx and higher still browse full-screen though. My boss is determined to keep our website 900px wide though, because that way people with 1800*xxx resolutions can have two browser windows next to eachother without having to scroll horizontally. I have never seen anyone browse with two adjacent browser windows like that except here at my current job, so I'm kind of doubting whether this is the best decision or just his personal preference. Anyone that can help out here?

• Is Azure Compatible with JPEG XR?

  I just put an F#/MVC app into a Windows Azure solution as a Web Role. Before migration, my JPEG XR (*.WDP) files were getting displayed on the client in IE9 without issue via my local and hosted sites. Now, after migration into Windows Azure, my JPEG XR files neither get displayed in my local Windows Azure compute emulator nor do they get displayed when they are deployed to http://*.cloudapp.net. Is there some sort of conflict with Widows Azure and (JPEG XR) *.wdp files? If so, what is the accepted best practice for overcoming this conflict?

• Domain held at one registry, need to redirect to subdomain on my own hosting provider

  Hi, There are lots of questions around this general area, but I haven't seen one that exactly mirrors what I'd like to know. It's per the title really. My understanding (and what I'm told by my host) is the easiest thing is just to get the transfer key and bring the DNS across to my own hosting provider. Also I'm told by my host this doesn't affect the client's ownership of the domain itself. Basically, I have a subdomain setup with the site (this has the same IP address as the top level domain). So presumably just giving the other registrar that IP address will only refer it only to the TLD rather than the subdomain. What's the easiest way to achieve this? It's an asp.net site, I don't have a hosted directory on the client's account where I can code a redirect. Thanks all Mark

  Possible Duplicate: Which Ecommerce Script Should I Use? We're looking to develop a simple e-commerce solution to sell 5-6 products. We'd rather not have to use PayPal's buttons (buy it now!) if there's an existing alternative, but would also for budget/time constraints don't want to roll our own. Are there any small, basic ecommerce solutions available that would allow this? I did look at Foxy Cart but the monthly fee was a bit of a turn off. (I must sound extremely fussy I'm aware!) • Blocking path scanning

  I'm seeing in my access log a number of request very suspicious: /i /im /imaa /imag /image /images /images/d /images/di /images/dis They part from a known resource (in the above example /images/disrupt.jpg). All comming from same IP. Requests varies from 1/sec to 10/sec, seems somewhat random. It's obviously they are trying to find something and seems they are using a script. How do I block this kind of behaviour? I though of blocking the IP request, at least for a given time. Keeping in mind that: Request intervals seems legitimate (at least I think so). I don't want to end blocking a search engine bot, which may find 404 urls too (and that's a different problem, I know). ¿Do they use always same IP?

• Attach a Wordpress.org blog to my BigCommerece Store as a sub-domain

  I am stuck in a peculiar situation. I have a store on BigCommerece configured with a domain from GoDaddy (mystore.com). I recently created a custom wordpress blog and hosted it on 1and1 hosting (s418783372.onlinehome.us), since bigcommerece can't host Wordpress. Now I want to use it from a sub-domain of my main-bigcommerece store (models.mystore.com), but it doesn't seem to be working since BigCommerce is the Doman Manager, but GoDaddy is the Domain-Registrar and 1and1 is the host so it doesn't control the domain. I have tried setting up a CNAME record on BigCommerece and when it didn't work asked BigCommerece about it, but they said they can't do anything about it since they aren't the domain registrar and gave me a message saying: The responsiblity to show the name in the browser on the site is up to the server or site admin. The Cname can only get the browser there
