• add shapes to bing maps from locations stored in a database (bing maps ajax control)

  I am trying to use the Bing Maps Ajax Control to plot pins of locations stored in a database to the bing map on a web page. All the locations are geocoded and the lat longs stored in the database. I am using ASP.NET (C#), but can't figure out or find any tutorials on how to go about doing this. All I can find are articles on how to import shapes into a map from either GeoRSS, Bing Maps, and KML. I have used (and paid for ;o) the excellent control from Simplovations to do alot of what I need to do, namely working with my data as normal in the code behind, getting a DataSet of my locations and plotting the points to the map. It has been great, but I want to know how to do it with out using a third party control. My main reason for wanting this is to be able to cluster my pins and hopefully learn a bit of Javascript along the way. Does anyone know of any tutorials or articles online that can help me on my way. I have been searching the net for hours now and can't find anything :(

• MVC ASP.NET, ObjectContext and Ajax. Weird Behaviour

  Hi, i've been creating a web application in mvc asp.net. I have three different project/solutions. One solution contains the model in EF (DAL) and all the methods to add, update, delete and query the objects in the model, the objectcontext is managed here in a per request basis. Other solution contains a content management system in wich authorized users insert, delete, update and access objects through the DAL mentioned before. And the last solution contains the web page that is accessed by all users and where the only operations executed are selects, no update, inserts or deletes here. All the selects are executed against the DAL mentioned before (the first solution). The problem here is that i'm not sure whether an HttpContext lifespan ObjectContext is the best solution. I have a lot of ajax calls in my web app and i'm not sure if an httpcontext could interfere with the performance of the application. I've been noticed that in some cases, specially when someone is working in the content manager inserting, updating or deleting, when you try to click on any link of the user web application (the web app that is accessed by any user - the third one that i mentioned before) the web page freezes and it remains stucked transferring data. In order to stop that behaviour you have to stop and refresh or click several times on the link. Excuse me for my bad english. I hope you could understand and could help me to solve this issue. • Automatically resize jQuery UI dialog to the width of the content loaded by ajax

  I'm having a lot of trouble finding specific information and examples on this. I've got a number of jQuery UI dialogs in my application attached to divs that are loaded with .ajax() calls. They all use the same setup call: $(".mydialog").dialog({ autoOpen: false, resizable: false, modal: true }); I just want to have the dialog resize to the width of the content that gets loaded. Right now, the width just stays at 300px (the default) and I get a horizontal scrollbar. As far as I can tell, "autoResize" is no longer an option for dialogs, and nothing happens when I specify it. I'm trying to not write a separate function for each dialog, so .dialog("option", "width", "500") is not really an option, as each dialog is going to have a different width. Specifying width: 'auto' for the dialog options just makes the dialogs take up 100% of the width of the browser window. What are my options? I'm using jQuery 1.4.1 with jQuery UI 1.8rc1. It seems like this should be something that is really easy. EDIT: I've implemented a kludgy workaround for this, but I'm still looking for a better solution.

  I'm attempting to use the AJAX Control Toolkit's Rating control in a DataBinding scenario. I have a ReuseRating column in my database that is a tinyint. It can hold values 1 through 5. Every record in the table has the value set to 1 currently. If I do this in my ItemTemplate everything works fine. Basically, I'm setting the Timer Arrays in a different function before this, and I call startShouts which is supposed to show all of the information, but startShouts gets called more than once, which is why I have idShout set to equal shoutCount. So it will go something like this: shoutCount = 1, shoutCount = 2, shoutCount = 3, everytime it is being called. So I set the req[idShout - 1] array and it should return the result right?? Well, I get no errors in Firefox in the error console with this code above, but it doesn't work... Any ideas anyone?? As it needs to output into more than 1 area... argg. • Jquery Cluetip - clean up between ajax loaded content

  Hi, I'm using the jquery cluetip plugin and trying to figure out how to remove any open cluetip dialogs once i load new content via ajax. I am either stuck with the dialog boxes still showing on top of new content, or the ways i've tried to fix this actually remove all future cluetip dialogs from showing at all. Here's my code, thanks for any help. • Ditching Django's models for Ajax/Web Services

  Recently I came across a problem at work that made me rethink Django's models. The app I am developing resides on a Linux server. Its a simple model/view/controller app that involves user interaction and updating data in the database. The problem is that this data resides in a MS SQL database on a Windows machine. So in order to use Django's models, I would have to leverage an ODBC driver on linux, and the use a python add-on like pyodbc. Well, let me tell you, setting up a reliable and functional ODBC connection on linux is no easy feat! So much so, that I spent several hours maneuvering this on my CentOS with no luck, and was left with frustration and lots of dumb system errors. In the meantime I have a deadline to meet, and suddenly the very agile and rapid Django application is a roadblock rather than a pleasure to work with. Someone on my team suggested writing this app in .NET. But there are a few problems with that: it won't be deployable on a linux machine, and I won't be able to work on it since I don't know ASP.net. Then a much better suggestion was made: keep the app in django, but instead of using models, do straight up ajax/web services calls in the template. And then it dawned on me - what a great idea. Django's models seem like a nuissance and hindrance in this case, and I can just have someone else write .Net services on their side, that I can call from my template. As a result my app will be leaner and more compact. So, I was wondering if you guys ever came across a similar dillema and what you decided to do about it.

  I have a code that would call $.load() to get an HTML fragment. In the fragment there will be a list of images and a script that would do some calculation based on the list size. The fragment looks like <div> <ul> <li><img .../></li> <li><img .../></li> ... </ul> </div> <script> //... script to do calculation on the list width </script> Originally, I use css's max-width to ensure that the image would not exceed 180px. But as IE has no max-width, I use the expression hack. However, it seems when the image are first load, the script cannot get a correct width of image list. Seems like the script load earlier than the CSS expression. If it is a new page, I can certainly call $(window).load() to ensure all the images are loaded. But what can I do in an ajax html fragment request?

• jQuery .html not writing span on page load, rights the span on ajax response

  I've got a bit of a calendar I'm building with events that go beyond the boundary of one day. I've got a graph which shows how many events are running concurrently. In order to graph out the events which go into another day, I look for hours24, and run an extra bit of code. jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count', numStaff).html(''+printHour+''+numEvents+' scheduled').css('height',numEvents*5+'px'); The code is working, the li items are being found, proper height is the css is being applied, data is set, which I've checked by running alert(jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count')); right after the pervious bit of code. The only thing that isn't being done is the .html(add span) stuff. I run this code in two places. Once when the page loads, and once when an action is taken which changes the number of events via an ajax response. The li DOM object I'm writting to is created before the script is run, and the height is being applied, but not the span, and only on page load. Any ideas on this one? I'm stumped.

• jQuery.ajax() + empty JSON object = parse error

  I get a parse error when using jQuery to load some JSON data. Here's a snippet of my code: jQuery.ajax({ dataType: "json", success: function (json) { jQuery.each(json, function () { alert(this["columnName"]); }); } }); I get no errors when parsing a non-empty JSON object. So my guess is that the problem is with my serializer. Question is: how do I format an empty JSON object which jQuery won't consider malformed? This is what I've tried so far, with no success: {[]} {[null]} {} {null} {"rows": []} {"rows": null} {"rows": {}} UPDATE: I can understand that I've been somewhat vague--let me try and clarify: Parsing of the JSON object is not the issue here--JQuery is - I think. jQuery throws a parse-error (invokes the error function). It seems like jQuery's internal JSON validation is not accepting any of the before mentioned objects. Not even the valid ones. Output of the error function is: XMLHttpRequest: XMLHttpRequest readyState=4 status=200 textStatus: parsererror errorThrown: undefined This goes for all of the before mentioned objects.

  Hi, I am working on my first MVC application and am running into a bit of a problem. I have a data table that when a row is clicked, I want to return the detail from that row. It does hit the function but nothing is passed to it. So, I have read where you pass the parameter via the data but I have tried every combination I can think of and it never shows up. • Work with AJAX response with DOM methods

  I'm retrieving an entire HTML document via AJAX - and that works fine. But I need to extract certain parts of that document and do things with them. Using a framework (jquery, mootools, etc) is not an option. The only solution I can think of is to grab the body of the HTML document with a regex (yes, I know, terrible) ie. <body>(.*)</body> put that into the current page's DOM in a hidden element, and work with it from there. Is there an easier/better way? Update I've done some testing, and inserting an entire HTML document into a created element behaves a bit differently across browsers I've tested. For example: FF3.5: keeps the contents of the HEAD and BODY tags IE7 / Safari4: Only includes what's between ... Opera 10.10: Keeps HEAD and everything inside it, Keeps contents of BODY The behavior of IE7 and Safari are ideal, but different browsers are doing this differently. Since I'm loading a predetermined HTML document I think I'm going to use the regEx to grab what I want and insert it into a DOM element - unless someone has other suggestions.

• Migrating Ajax web application to web socket

  Hi, I think i'm just missing a little detail that is preventing me from seeing the whole picture. I have a web application which use ajax request every x time to update client with new information or tasks. I also have a long running process on the server which is a java computation engine. I would like this engine to send update to the client. I am wondering how to migrate my web app to using websocket. Probably phpwebsocket or similar. Can my server 'decide' to send information to a specific client? It seems possible looking at the php-websocket. Can my java backend long process use the websocket server to send notification to a specific client. How? well I can say that my java app could use a class that could send over websocket instead of http. But how the websocket server knows to which client to send the 'info'. I am puzzle by all this. Any document that explain this in more details? It seems that the websocket could create an instance of my web application. Thanks

• What's a good way to format AJAX responses? Or, using Django templating with AJAX

  In some of the code I'm working on, the author max AJAX calls to a Django view that returns JSON. • Recovering corrupted VB.NET Form file?

  Good day. This question is directly related to this one I made here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4911099/there-is-no-editor-available-for-form1-vb-error There, I was working on my VB.NET 2010 Express application, I saved, then a blackout came and now, apparently, I can't view the designer nor code of my Form file (Form1.vb). On StackOverflow, I was recommended to check for the From1.vb file, and try to open it on Notepad. If nothing appeared, it would mean that my file was corrupted. I open it on Notepad, and I get a blank file. It is 27kb, but it only has blank spaces. So I assume it is corrupted. I was told this place was better for dealing with corrupted files, about techniques to recover them. I use Windows7, VB.NET 2010 Express. I run Windows7 on Parallels Desktop, Mac OS X. However, I do not believe that is the problem, most likely it was that damned blackout... this is the first time that happens to me. VB.NET worked just fine for me all time (about a month and half). Thank you.

• javascript doesn't seem to be able to post form data (nginx server w/ php-fpm)

  So the situation is like so: I have a nginx server with php-fpm installed. All is well and the site scripts and all work perfectly. I am able to use html to POST form data and it works just fine. However, There seems to be be some correlation between javascript, the POST protocol and nothing happening. I cant seem to determine the issue. Example: I have a user login widget that uses javascript on submit the fields and POST the data to a backend auth script which returns a server message that then populates the login box saying something like "Login Successful" followed by reloading the page to properly enable content. Problem is, nothing happens when you hit submit. I do know the setup works because i had it working on apache before migrating. Also if it makes any difference, the server is a Amazon EC2 instance using the Amazon AMI. • Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

  Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

• New AD user request form and workflow

  I'm wondering if anyone is providing a solid solution for creating New Network User Account Request forms, and attaching workflows to them to automate account creation? I'm currently investigating a number of options, but am surprised that such a ubiquitous task hasn't been solved a dozen times over and thoroughly documented. Or at least isn't integrated into current off-the-shelf change management and ticketing systems. Ideally, I'd like for our current ticketing system, ServiceDesk+ to present a standard 'New User' form to department heads, which they can fill in with the required new user details. This triggers a workflow that submits the request as a ticket that can be reviewed and actioned. Actioning the ticket triggers a workflow that creates a user in AD with the details provided, and notifies the department head upon completion. All told, a pretty standard requirement that I'm sure most organizations have. What are other people doing to accomplish this? Edit: I should add, I'm more looking for "supported" methods. As is, I've submitted a number of scripted solutions, none of which have met with manager approval.
