  I got the following, quite puzzling error today when running a unit test: java.lang.ClassFormatError: Absent Code attribute in method that is not native or abstract in class file javax/servlet/http/Cookie A google search found this post, which explains that it is caused by having an interface in the classpath, and not an actual implementation. In this case it’s the java-ee interface. To fix this I added the jetty servlet api implementation to my pom: jetty javax.servlet test Piece of cake. I have run in to this before, so I figured I would capture the fix here in case I run in to it again.

• Get your content off Blogger.com

  Due to blogger.com deprecating FTP users I've decided to move my blog. When I think of the content of a blog, 4 items come to mind: blog posts, comments, binary files that the blog posts linked to (e.g. images, ZIP files) and the CSS+structure of the blog. 1. Binaries The binary files you used in your blog posts are sitting on your own web space, so really blogger.com is not involved with that. Nothing for you to do at this stage, I'll come back to these in another post. 2. CSS and structure In the best case this exists as a separate CSS file on your web space (so no action for now) or in a worst case, like me, your CSS is embedded with the HTML. In the latter case, simply navigate from you dashboard to "Template" then "Edit HTML" and copy paste the contents of the box. Save that locally in a txt file and we'll come back to that in another post. 3. Blog posts and Comments The blog posts and comments exist in all the HTML files on your own web space. Parsing HTML files to extract that can be painful, so it is easier to download the XML files from blogger's servers that contain all your blog posts and comments. 3.1 Single XML file, but incomplete The obvious thing to do is go into your dashboard "Settings" and under the "Basic" tab look at the top next to "Blog Tools". There is a link there to "Export blog" which downloads an XML file with both comments and posts. The problem with that is that it only contains 200 comments - if you have more than that, you will lose the surplus. Also, this XML file has a lot of noise, compared to the better solution described next. (note that a tool I will refer to in a future post deals with either kind of XML file) 3.2 Multiple XML files First you need to find your blog ID. In case you don't know what that is, navigate to the "Template" as described in section 2 above. You will find references to the blog id in the HTML there, but you can also see it as part of the URL in your browser: blogger.com/template-edit.g?blogID=YOUR_NUMERIC_ID. Mine is 7 digits. You can now navigate to these URLs to download the XML for your posts and comments respectively: blogger.com/feeds/YOUR_NUMERIC_ID/posts/default?max-results=500&start-index=1 blogger.com/feeds/YOUR_NUMERIC_ID/comments/default?max-results=200&start-index=1 Note that you can only get 500 posts at a time and only 200 comments at a time. To get more than that you have to change the URL and download the next batch. To get you started, to get the XML for the next 500 posts and next 200 comments respectively you’d have to use these URLs: blogger.com/feeds/YOUR_NUMERIC_ID/posts/default?max-results=500&start-index=501 blogger.com/feeds/YOUR_NUMERIC_ID/comments/default?max-results=200&start-index=201 ...and so on and so forth. Keep all the XML files in the same folder on your local machine (with nothing else in there). 4. Validating the XML aka editing older blog posts The XML files you just downloaded really contain HTML fragments inside for all your blog posts. If you are like me, your blog posts did not conform to XHTML so passing them to an XML parser (which is what we will want to do) will result in the XML parser choking. So the next step is to fix that. This can be no work at all for you, or a huge time sink or just a couple hours of pain (which was my case). The process I followed was to attempt to load the XML files using XmlDocument.Load and wait for the exception to be thrown from my code. The exception would point to the exact offending line and column which would help me fix the issue. Rather than fix it in the XML itself, I would go back and edit the offending blog post and fix it there - recommended! Then I'd repeat the cycle until the XML could be loaded in the XmlDocument. To give you an idea, some of the issues I encountered are: extra or missing quotes in img and href elements, direct usage of chevrons instead of encoding them as &lt;, missing closing tags, mismatched nested pairs of elements and capitalization of html elements. For a full list of things that may go wrong see this. 5. Opportunity for other changes I also found a few posts that did not have a category assigned so I fixed those too. I took the further opportunity to create new categories and tag some of my blog posts with that. • Install ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64 with Logitech diNovo Edge

  I know there are problems (and have been for quite some time) with the diNovo Edge keyboard. The solution could be found easily and often you can use the on-screen keyboard to fix it. Now I'm installing Ubuntu from scratch and the only keyboard I have is my diNovo, am I screwed? You are able to get to System Config during the install process and from there to Accessibility menu where you usually can start the on-screen keyboard. This doesn't work, no keyboard in sight... What if I can do some ninja copy-paste with the mouse?? Nope, no pasting allowed in the feilds: username, password, etc. Is there a chance I can fix this somehow within the .iso file before I create the bootable USB drive I use to install from? Or do I have to buy a keyboard to be able to install Ubuntu?

• Anything Mouse Like Isn't Seen by Ubuntu 13.10

  I have a upgraded 13.10 from 13.04 and today this issue of anything that is mouse-like is not seen by Ubuntu. The only input device that works is my Wacom Tablet and it's pen. I already checked for updates and have the latest updates for the Ubuntu system. I can't even use the Live USB of Ubuntu 13.10 to fix the issue. EDIT 1: Seems that Ubuntu isn't seeing the clicks done by a mouse if it's the Wacom tablet. EDIT 2: I think it's a bug but I need help to report it.

• Cannot install shell-themes using gnome-tweak-tool

  How do I fix this? I will attempt to upload a screenshot of the problem. Notice there is an error like triangle near the shell themes and nothing is select-able. Also there are no shell extensions under the shell extensions tab. I have come across many postings on how to fix this but none worked for me. I currently have 12.04 LTS. I have a custom Phenom quad core machine with Radeon HD 5770 graphics if that helps.

  I'm trying to implement a skybox into my engine, and I'm having some trouble loading the image as a cube map. Everything works (but it doesn't look right) if I don't load using an ImageLoadInformation struct in the ShaderResourceView.FromFile() method, but it breaks if I do. I need to, of course, because I need to tell SlimDX to load it as a cubemap. How can I fix this? • Partial upgrade error

  this is an issue I have googled a lot and I have tried a lot of fixes, but non of them really worked. At some point (I can't remember when/how) my Update system sort of broke, and since then it is always complaining about "Not all updates can be installed, run a Partial Upgrade". If I click on Partial Upgrade, I get the following result But running apt-get install -f does not fix anything, and at the end I always get the following message Funny thing is that my apt-get system works perfect on Console. I can update my system through apt-get update, apt-get upgrade etc.. So.. how can I fix the graphic interface? I understand that my apt-get system is not broken, but somehow its GUI it is. • Computer SOMETIMES recognizes when headphones are plugged in.

  Whenever I plug my headphones into my computer's front headphone jack, I get a weird situation. Sometimes, the computer will recognize the headphones and work properly. But other times, the computer will play sound through both the headphones and my monitor's speaker. When this happens, the sound section of the system settings does not list the headphones. I can fix the issue temporarily by wiggling the headphone port, but if it gets wiggled the wrong way again, then the issue returns. My PC's case is a Rosewill Challenger. I have tried multiple headphones and the same issue is there. I suspect that this might be a hardware related issue, but if there is any way to fix it with software, that would be helpful.   I had problems while installing ubuntu 12.04 on a samsung laptop, the problem is the AHCI sysmtem, after a lot of searching, I found that this is almost impossible to "fix" and the only way i found is too much work. I want to install Ubuntu in the 110GB free partition of my hard drive, along with windows. I have a 150GB Windows partition, a 200GB documents partition, and I want to use 110 GB for Ubuntu. The problem is that with the liveCD the installer and gparted shows that my entire hard drive is unallocated (the problem of AHCI). The only way to fix this is to do a lot of work, with a lot of risk, so the question is whether I can install Ubuntu without using either the LiveCD or Wubi.

• What Problems Are Better Solved By SOAP Over REST?

  In the battle for web service supremacy SOAP and REST have been battling for years. In my personal opinion this debate should have never existed. Yes, both forms can be used to create an interactive web service, but each form of a service was developed independent of each other to solve two different yet similar problems. Based my research and experience I would have to say that REST should be the preferred web service methodology and SOAP should only be used in specific situations. Note, I did not say that I was against SOAP, and in fact I actually like to use SOAP when it is needed. Criteria for using SOAP: Does the service need a guaranteed level of reliability and security? Did the provider and consumer of the service agreed on a standardized data exchange format? Does the service need data context and state management? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you may want to consider SOAP as the format for the web service. Another way to look at the relationship between REST and SOAP is to look at the medical field.  For most things a general doctor or you family health care provider can acceptably treat most conditions from the case of a common cold to a broken bone. A general doctor more aligns with REST in my opinion because for most service requirements REST fulfills a projects needs, but what happens if you need more of an advanced examination, you would go to a specialist. A specialist would already have experience dealing with specific issues that you are experiencing giving them specific context to how best treat you going forward. SOAP acts more like a specialist doctor giving that they understand the context of an issue and can treat it based on the state of other patients they have already treated. An example of where I would use SOAP over REST in real life would be a single sign-on application. I n these cases I need to check validate a username and password for authentication and authorization of a web page request. This service would need to maintain state while it authenticated a user and while it validated access to a web page on a subsequent request. This service must process every request for access and not allow caching to ensure that every request is processed and the appropriate users are allowed to view selected web pages. • Fixing the #mvvmlight code snippets in Visual Studio 11

  If you installed the latest MVVM Light version for Windows 8, you may encounter an issue where code snippets are not displayed correctly in the Intellisense popup. I am working on a fix, but for now here is how you can solve the issue manually. The code snippets MVVM Light, when installed correctly, will install a set of code snippets that are very useful to allow you to type less code. As I use to say, code is where bugs are, so you want to type as little of that as possible ;) With code snippets, you can easily auto-insert segments of code and easily replace the keywords where needed. For instance, every coder who uses MVVM as his favorite UI pattern for XAML based development is used to the INotifyPropertyChanged implementation, and how boring it can be to type these “observable properties”. Obviously a good fix would be something like an “Observable” attribute, but that is not supported in the language or the framework for the moment. Another fix involves “IL weaving”, which is a post-build operation modifying the generate IL code and inserting the “RaisePropertyChanged” instruction. I admire the invention of those who developed that, but it feels a bit too much like magic to me. I prefer more “down to earth” solutions, and thus I use the code snippets. Fixing the issue Normally, you should see the code snippets in Intellisense when you position your cursor in a C# file and type mvvm. All MVVM Light snippets start with these 4 letters. Normal MVVM Light code snippets However, in Windows 8 CP, there is an issue that prevents them to appear correctly, so you won’t see them in the Intellisense windows. To restore that, follow the steps: In Visual Studio 11, open the menu Tools, Code Snippets Manager. In the combobox, select Visual C#. Press Add… Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Laurent Bugnion (GalaSoft)\Mvvm Light Toolkit\SnippetsWin8 and select the CSharp folder. Press Select Folder. Press OK to close the Code Snippets Manager. Now if you type mvvm in a C# file, you should see the snippets in your Intellisense window. • Installed Ubuntu in VMware Player, Black side bars / broken GUI

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 in VMware Player and have came up with a black sidebar, missing icons, a pretty broken GUI. Everything works just fine though. I am able to run Firefox and open termainal and all that good stuff just fine, it's just that I can SEE them on the sidebar. I have to open up a seperate window on Windows with a picture of the Ubuntu 12.10 desktop in order for me to know what to click on, but once I do click on it, it's pretty much smooth sailing from there(not counting closing Firefox and several other things). Again, everything works just fine, but when it comes to the sidebar, the GUI, the dashboard (get a completely black screen for when I open dash board), they come up as completely black, broken (visual tears and what not), and hoving over them just brings up a big black bar (assuming it's the "zooming" in of the icon, but it just shows a black bar of where the icon should be). I'm not exactly sure what so do to get this to work (to fix the GUI), any ideas as to what I may do to fix this?

  I have ubuntu 32 bit 12.04 server edition but i am having issues with apt-get updating. The server is able to ping the outside world (both 8.8.8.8 and www.google.com) but when I attempt to sudo apt-get update the first bit works but then I get this: If i attempt to check or autoclean with: sudo apt-get check I get this: I have tried the fix detailed here: How do I fix a "Problem with MergeList" error when trying to do an update? But it does not work, the same thing occurs again. Any suggestions? PS. The server is a fresh install, no external programs have been added. EDIT: We have tried using different sources, both aarnet and au.archive sources were tried.

• Mounting a Microsoft Azure CloudDrive in a VMRole

  Mounting a Drive in a VMRole is a little more complicated then a web or worker.  The Web and Worker roles offer OnStart and OnStop events, which you can use to mount or unmount your drives. The VMRole does not have these same events so you have to provide another way for the drives to be mounted or unmounted. The problem I have run into is what if you have multiple drives and you only want to mount certain drives. How do you let your user mount the drive. I am not going to go into details on what kind of GUI to present to the user. I have done this in a simple WPF application as well as a console application. We are going to need to get the storage account details. One thing to note when you are mounting cloud drives you cannot use https and have to use http. We force the use of http by using false when we create the CloudStorageAccount.   StorageCredentialsAccountAndKey credentials = new StorageCredentialsAccountAndKey("AccountName", "AccountKey"); CloudStorageAccount storageAccount = new CloudStorageAccount(credentials, false);   Next we need to get a reference to the container.   var blobClient = storageAccount.CreateCloudBlobClient(); var container = blobClient.GetContainerReference("ContainerName");   Now we need to get a list of the drives in the container   var drives = container.ListBlobs();   Now that we have a list of the drives in the container we can let the user choose which drive they want to mount. I am just selecting the 1st drive in the list for the example and getting the Uri of the drive.   var driveUri = drives.First().Uri;   Now that we have the Uri we need to get the reference to the drive. var drive = new CloudDrive(driveUri, storageAccount.Credentials);   Now all that is left is to mount the drive.   var driveLetter = drive.Mount(0, DriveMountOptions.None);   To unmount the drive all you have to do is call unmount on the drive. drive.Unmount();   You do need to make sure you unount the drives when you are done with them. I have run into issues with the drives being locked until the VMRole is rebooted. I have also managed to have a drive be permanently locked and I was forced to delete it and upload it again. I have been unable to reproduce the permanent lock but I am still trying. • Tor check failed though Vidalia shows green onion

  I have installed tor successfully and Vidalia shows it is running without problems; however, when I check if I am using tor in this website I get an error message saying I am not using tor. I have tried two things to fix this: I installed ProxySwitchy on Google Chrome, and created a profile for Tor (with address 127.0.0.1, port 8118), but enabling the proxy doesn't change the results in the tor check website linked before. I changed my network proxy settings through System Settings Network from None to Manual, and selected as address always 127.0.0.1 and as port 8118 for all but for the socket, for which I entered 9050 instead. This makes internet stop working completely. How can I fix this problem?

• Slow in the app, fast in SSMS

  Users complain about a timeout but when you run the exact same query in SSMS it runs in a flash. Sounds familiar? I've been baffled by this before. I worked out that I was getting a different query plan in SSMS because of different SET OPTIONS but, having dealt with that, I was then stuck with parameter sniffing as the cause of the timeout. I've read about that but still didn't really understand how to fix it.   i'm running ubuntu 12.04.3 x86 desktop in my corporation environment. I join the corp domain by Likewise open. But when I ping another pc, say hostname is pc-test, "ping pc-test" or "ping pc-test.domain.name" returns slow interval (about 5 seconds) but the ping value is below 1 ms. When I use "ping -n pc-test", everything works well. So I conclude this is about reverse DNS issue. how to fix this issue? many thanks! Edit: In my understanding, reverse DNS issue is related to DNS server or Wins server, not only an ubuntu issue, is this right? if I wanna fix this issue as much as possible on ubuntu but not on network servers, what to do?

I’m hoping the power of social media will come through… I have a need to perform the following action: Firefox 3.6.x: Quote: open Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Encryption - View Certificates - Your Certificates - Import However i need the same functionality from the bash command line. So far I’ve established that the following command is supposed to be used: Quote: certutil -A -t “u,u,u” -d /home/df001/.mozilla/firefox/qe5y5lht.tc.default/ -n “mycert” -i client.p12 This executes with no isses, however, doesn’t show up in any Firefox Certificate store. However, I have noted that prior to running this command, i have a cert8.db key3.db and secmod.db file in the above folder. Well i will copy and post the same question there as well, however the ability to use the command line to do this is important, as I have potentially 2000 machines which will need a user cert imported into firefox via a p12 file. I need to do this in the form of a script, i thought the hard part was going to be making the p12 file from the microsoft 2003 CA, turns out thats easy. I can’t just import via the GUI and copy over cert8.db x 2000, i can’t ask users to use the CA webinterface as its for VPN access, the users are off site, and they need the VPN to get to the cert server.. Is there any person out there who can help? By the way, i don't have the tor buttun installed.

• Black & White screen after resuming from Suspend [Ubuntu 12.04]

  I recently thought of giving Linux a try with Ubuntu 12.04. So far I managed to figure out how to troubleshoot and fix some of my older issues. But i wasnt able to find a problem similar to mine. The issue is, whenever my laptop starts up after suspend, the screen stays black for a short while. then after that comes a black and white 8-bit kinda screen with nothing else. I am not sure if it's an issue with the graphic card or not. because I am able to write my login password and proceed normally if i wait till this screen shows up...after that everything is displayed normally. is there a fix for this?

Now, probably being an older domain, it outranks me in google, and the pages at my domain are starting to getting de-indexed (probably duplicate content or something). So, for example, my homepage got de-indexed, and their homepage (theirsite.com/) is indexed with my content/code/etc. The same is for other pages (theirsite.com/other/page.html is showing mysite.com/other/page.html) Quick-fix: To quickly fix it, I have added few lines to my PHP code, checking for $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'], and if different than my domain, redirects to my domain. It does the job, but to me it looks like a dirty solution. Question: I could not find a way to have apache to do this job. I would prefer to find an apache/.htaccess solution to this problem (redirecting all traffic from domainA.com/(.*) to domainB.com/$1), is it possible in any way? Thanks

  This is a duplicate, however the solution given does not work. After updating to Ubuntu 12.04 from Ubuntu 11.10, all video is now blue, whether playing in a browser or a player. I have tried to uninstall all Flash and re-installed but makes no difference. Does anyone have any ideas?
