  • Enable click-and-drag scrolling in Windows 8 / Metro?

    In Windows 8 (Metro interface) I find myself trying to click and drag the background to scroll again and again, which does not work (I'm using a mouse, not touch). Also, scrolling with the scroll wheel, the bottom scrollbar, or the cursor keys is not nearly as smooth as I've seen in videos, or on tablets. Is there any way to enable smooth kinetic scrolling with the mouse? So that I can click and drag lists or multi-screen displays around? I remember seeing this in a video. I'm not sure if there was some third-party tool involved or not.

  • Make Ms Word activate window of file if it is already open when I double click the file's icon?

    When I try to open a word document that is already open, I want it to just activate the window where the file is open. How can I do that? sometimes it takes time to check if an ms word document is already open, I don't to have to have to check through a bunch of open word documents to see if it's in there or not, I just want to double click the icon of a word document, and if it's open then go to it, if not then open it. With the doc/docx or shortcut to the doc/docx , I have some files where when I double click , it activates it when already open. I have other files where double clicking will bring up a "file in use" dialog box. I can't find what is the cause. I want it to always activate the window rather than reopen it. update- maybe that is default behaviour to activate when already open, and after a crash I had that stopped. i'll try deleting the working files and starting ms word again, idea from here

  • Why can't I right click on flash videos in Chrome? (Ubuntu 9.10)

    I'm trying to change the "quality" to low of a Hulu video so I can full screen it with out it being choppy but right click does nothing. When I right click in firefox it brings up a menu. I'm running Chrome on Ubuntu 9.10, is any one else having this issue I tried Google and got nothing back. I use chrome as my main browser, I have to switch to firefox every time I watch Hulu videos. Is there another way I cant change the quality of the flash video in Chrome?

  • How do I make control-click in Opera open new tabs?

    In Opera, as opposed to all other modern browsers I know, control-click does not open a new tab. Moreover, I couldn't find any good way to configure this behavior. The best available option seems to be this. However, it's so hacky that it won't work on HTTPS sites unless you enable user javascript there, which doesn't seem like a good idea. There also seem to be other proposed solutions, but none of them seem to work. I'd like this because my laptop has no middle mouse-button, and I'm a creature of habit. Do people have any ideas (for the latest version, 10.50)? I'd like ctrl-click to open a background tab, but I can do with foreground. Thank you!

  • 10 steps to enable &lsquo;Anonymous Access&rsquo; for your SharePoint 2010 site

    What’s Anonymous Access? Anonymous access to your SharePoint site enables all visitors to view your SharePoint site anonymously without having to log in. With this blog I’d like to go through an easy step wise procedure to enable/set up anonymous access. Before you actually enable anonymous access on the site, you’ll have to change some settings at the web app level. So let’s start with that: Prerequisite(s): 1. A hosted SharePoint 2010 farm/server. 2. An existing SharePoint site. I just thought I’d mention the above pre-reqs, since the steps mentioned below would’nt be valid or a different type of a site. Step 1: In Central Administration, under Application Management, click on the Manage web applications. Step 2: Now select the site you want to enable anonymous access and click on the Authentication Providers icon. Step 3: On the modal window click on the Default zone. Step 4: Now under the Edit Authentication section, check Enable anonymous access and click Save. This is basically to make the Anonymous Access authentication mechanism available at the web app level @ IIS. Now, web application will allow anonymous access to be set. 5. Going back to Web Application Management click on the Anonymous Policy icon. Step 6: Also before we proceed any further, under the Anonymous Access Restrictions (@ web app mgmt.) select your Zone and set the Permissions to None – No policy and click Save. Step 7:  Now lets navigate to your top level site collection for the web application. Click the Site Actions > Site Settings. Under Users and Permissions click Site permissions. Step 8: Under Users and Permissions, click on Site Permissions. Step 9: Under the Edit tab, click on Anonymous Access. Step 10: Choose whether you want Anonymous users to have access to the entire Web site or to lists and libraries only, and then click on OK. You should now be able to see the view as below under your permissions Also keep in mind: If you are trying to access the site from a browser within the domain, then you’ll need to change some browser settings to see the after affects. Normally this is because the browsers (Internet Explorer) is set to log in automatically to intranet zone only , not sure if you have explicitly changed the zones and added it to trusted sites. If this is from a box within your domain please try to access the site by temporarily changing the Internet Explorer setting to Anonymous Logon on the zone that the site is added example "Intranet" and try . You will find the same settings by clicking on Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab.

  • Why does Ubuntu only detect one USB LAN adapters at a time?

    I try to connect real switch with my computer for an exam preparation, for this purpose I need more than one LAN cards, and there is only one built in LAN card in my computer. So, to get more LAN cards, I bought 4 USB Ethernet adapters (as I have 4 usb ports in may laptop 2 usb 2.0 ports, 2 usb 3.0 ports). When I plug these adapters in my computer Ubuntu only detects one LAN card from 2.0 usb ports, and one LAN card from 3.0 ports. And sometimes detects only one USB LAN from all the usb ports. Actually the real problem is Ubuntu shows these USB LAN adapters in the "lsusb", but does not list them in "ifconfig".     I have a small site that I want to merge with a bigger one. How can I merge the second one with the first? I know that one solution would be to make the smaller one a subdomain of the bigger one, but I would like the following thing to happen: when I click on a category or a tag, posts from both sites/databases would appear. Something like Smashing Magazine did when it assimilated designinformer.com. The other solution and the one that I would prefer would be to merge the two databases, but I don't know if this is possible.

Looking for an RSS feed generator usuable in .NET framework 2.0. Ideally it would be easy to use (inferred quick) but flexible enough to support the multiple standards (shown part way down this page).     Hello, I am trying to manipulate Facebook pages in various ways, using Javascript browser elements. I'd need to be able to insert some text into the top "Type something..." box that shows on my site's fan page (or alternately, "click into" the field and I can type the text using GUI scripting), then click the "submit" button as if i'd done it by hand. It's tricky since the page is very Ajax heavy and I can't find the names of the elements I need to manipulate, let alone how to manipulate them as they're not using traditional form fields I'm used to. Can anyone help me figure out how to do this with javascript commands, which I'd be calling from Applescript on the Mac? Many thanks in advance. UPDATE Thanks for the comments below. Believe me, I am not trying to do anything spammy or douchy, mainly posting links to products that have gone live on page facebook page, but do it during the business day when people are on rather than at strange hours of the day. I am located in Japan so my sleep period is right when people are using FB. The solution I came up with for clicking the button was got using UI Browser, an outstanding tool if you're trying to script on the Mac.   • How can I include .pdf files when I publish but not in a search and replace in visual studio?

    More specifically my problem is if I include a pdf in my project and set its build action to content so it gets copied to the server when I publish, is there a way to exclude it from visual studios search and replace feature. Would a post build action be a solution to this? I just don't want anybody to do a global search and replace in my project and mess up the pdfs... Now if I click again on it the animation doesnt start no more. any clue?

    Hello, I have created a jQuery script (with help) that works great however I need it to automate/animate itself without using the click function, I just want to know is this possible and if so, how? Similar to a slide-show. Basically the code allows me to click on an image and hide/show a DIV, while changing a list of elements such as class/id name.   • Huge framerate difference between Test and Publish movie in Flash?

    Simply put, I am making a flash midi player. I am using ENTER_FRAME for my timings. I set the framerate to 100 to ensure that the timing of each note in milliseconds is accurate. When I test the movie with CTRL + ENTER it works fine. When I publish it and open it in a browser (tested both IE and Chrome), it suddenly plays back a lot slower. I don't think it's a performance issue, since the code is very simple. If this slowdown is consistent then I can perhaps work with it so that the playback speed will be correct. Do browsers make the framerate slower or do they implement a framerate cap of some sort? What is going on?

And this is must done without id, class attributes which aren't available for that hrefs. The problem is in this: $("#my-container a"). Any help would be appreciated!   • Click once Deployment suddenly does not work. Displays windows login?

    Hello All, I am facing a peculiar issue. We use click once deployment for our windows application. It was working fine till last week. I made some changes to the application (just code nothing changed in properties) and suddenly I cannot publish anymore. When we give publish now it displays windows authentication dialog and when we provide the credentials nothing happens. It tries to connect to remote server (local LAN) and shows the dialog again. Any idea why this happens? Thanks for your help.

In China, publishing is pretty simple: They give us a jar file and we just import the file in our project and do something with a small document. But when I was reading the Google Play's document, I think it's too complicated. There're so many documents and what ever you read the document always tell you you need to read another document. Are there any simple ways to do this?

  • Add Free Google Apps to Your Website or Blog

    Would you like to have an email address from your own domain, but prefer Gmail’s interface and integration with Google Docs?  Here’s how you can add the free Google Apps Standard to your site and get the best of both worlds. Note: To signup for Google Apps and get it setup on your domain, you will need to be able to add info to your WordPress blog or change Domain settings manually. Getting Started Head to the Google Apps signup page (link below), and click the Get Started button on the right.  Note that we are signing up for the free Google Apps which allows a max of 50 users; if you need more than 50 email addresses for your domain, you can choose Premiere Edition instead for $50/year. Select that you are the Administrator of the domain, and enter the domain or subdomain you want to use with Google Apps.  Here we’re adding Google Apps to the techinch.com site, but we could instead add Apps to mail.techinch.com if needed…click Get Started. Enter your name, phone number, an existing email address, and other Administrator information.  The Apps signup page also includes some survey questions about your organization, but you only have to fill in the required fields. On the next page, enter a username and password for the administrator account.  Note that the user name will also be the administrative email address as [email protected]. Now you’re ready to authenticate your Google Apps account with your domain.  The steps are slightly different depending on whether your site is on WordPress.com or on your own hosting service or server, so we’ll show how to do it both ways.   Authenticate and Integrate Google Apps with WordPress.com To add Google Apps to a domain you have linked to your WordPress.com blog, select Change yourdomain.com CNAME record and click Continue. Copy the code under #2, which should be something like googleabcdefg123456.  Do not click the button at the bottom; wait until we’ve completed the next step.   Now, in a separate browser window or tab, open your WordPress Dashboard.  Click the arrow beside Upgrades, and select Domains from the menu. Click the Edit DNS link beside the domain name you’re adding to Google Apps. Scroll down to the Google Apps section, and paste your code from Google Apps into the verification code field.  Click Generate DNS records when you’re done. This will add the needed DNS settings to your records in the box above the Google Apps section.  Click Save DNS records. Now, go back to the Google Apps signup page, and click I’ve completed the steps above. Authenticate Google Apps on Your Own Server If your website is hosted on your own server or hosting account, you’ll need to take a few more steps to add Google Apps to your domain.  You can add a CNAME record to your domain host using the same information that you would use with a WordPress account, or you can upload an HTML file to your site’s main directory.  In this test we’re going to upload an HTML file to our site for verification. Copy the code under #1, which should be something like googleabcdefg123456.  Do not click the button at the bottom; wait until we’ve completed the next step first. Create a new HTML file and paste the code in it.  You can do this easily in Notepad: create a new document, paste the code, and then save as googlehostedservice.html.  Make sure to select the type as All Files or otherwise the file will have a .txt extension. Upload this file to your web server via FTP or a web dashboard for your site.  Make sure it is in the top level of your site’s directory structure, and try visiting it at yoursite.com/googlehostedservice.html. Now, go back to the Google Apps signup page, and click I’ve completed the steps above. Setup Your Email on Google Apps When this is done, your Google Apps account should be activated and ready to finish setting up.  Google Apps will offer to launch a guide to step you through the rest of the process; you can click Launch guide if you want, or click Skip this guide to continue on your own and go directly to the Apps dashboard.   If you choose to open the guide, you’ll be able to easily learn the ropes of Google Apps administration.  Once you’ve completed the tutorial, you’ll be taken to the Google Apps dashboard. Most of the Google Apps will be available for immediate use, but Email may take a bit more setup.  Click Activate email to get your Gmail-powered email running on your domain.    Add Google MX Records to Your Server You will need to add Google MX records to your domain registrar in order to have your mail routed to Google.  If your domain is hosted on WordPress.com, you’ve already made these changes so simply click I have completed these steps.  Otherwise, you’ll need to manually add these records before clicking that button.   Adding MX Entries is fairly easy, but the steps may depend on your hosting company or registrar.  With some hosts, you may have to contact support to have them add the MX records for you.  Our site’s host uses the popular cPanel for website administration, so here’s how we added the MX Entries through cPanel. Add MX Entries through cPanel Login to your site’s cPanel, and click the MX Entry link under Mail. Delete any existing MX Records for your domain or subdomain first to avoid any complications or interactions with Google Apps.  If you think you may want to revert to your old email service in the future, save a copy of the records so you can switch back if you need. Now, enter the MX Records that Google listed.  Here’s our account after we added all of the entries to our account. Finally, return to your Google Apps Dashboard and click the I have completed these steps button at the bottom of the page. Activating Service You’re now officially finished activating and setting up your Google Apps account.  Google will first have to check the MX records for your domain; this only took around an hour in our test, but Google warns it can take up to 48 hours in some cases. You may then see that Google is updating its servers with your account information.  Once again, this took much less time than Google’s estimate. When everything’s finished, you can click the link to access the inbox of your new Administrator email account in Google Apps. Welcome to Gmail … at your own domain!  All of the Google Apps work just the same in this version as they do in the public @gmail.com version, so you should feel right at home. You can return to the Google Apps dashboard from the Administrative email account by clicking the Manage this domain at the top right. In the Dashboard, you can easily add new users and email accounts, as well as change settings in your Google Apps account and add your site’s branding to your Apps. Your Google Apps will work just like their standard @gmail.com counterparts.  Here’s an example of an inbox customized with the techinch logo and a Gmail theme.   • Is trailing slash automagically added on click of home page URL in browser?

    I am asking this because whenever I mouseover a link to a home page (e.g. http://www.example.com), I notice that a trailing slash is always added (as observed on the status bar of the browser) whether the home page link contains a href attribute that ends with a slash or not. But whenever I am on the home page, the URL on display will not have a trailing slash. I tried entering a slash to the URL in the URL bar. And with Firebug enabled, I notice that the site always return a 200 OK status. An article here discussing this states that having a slash at the end will avoid a 301 redirection. But I am not seeing any redirection, even on this page. Could this be a browser feature that is appending the slash?
