  • Incompatibility between x86 and x64 in Installation solution

    Hello, I have installation solution that have installer project (not web installer but simple installer) that installs NT services, web service and web sites with help of additional two projects of dlls with my own code that performs my installation step. In user actions of installer project I call installer function of one of those projects, and this project calls to installer of second project: installer - MiddleCaller - InstallationCore. All this developing on Windows 7 and work fine when I compile all in 32 bit. The project must run on Windows 2008. Because of some reasons all must be in x64 bit. For this purpose, in MiddleCaller and InstallationCore I click right button of mouse on project - build - targer x64. For to move installer project to 64 bit in properties of installer (when project is active) I check: Target platform: x64. When I run installation on x86 I get error: The installation package is not supported by this processor type" And this is good, because now I know that my installation compiled in 64 bit, but when I run this on windows 2008 I get: Error 1001. Exception occured while initializing the instance: System.BadImageFormatException: could not load file or Assembly 'MiddleCaller, v...' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Any one has some idea what I need to do for run fine the installation on x64? May be I still not moved the installer project to x64 bit, if yes, where I do this? Thank you for ahead.

    lanchpad.net states that for project Emle - Electronic Mathematics Laboratory Equipment 2.0 series is the current focus of development This is what I have done so far: Set the launchpad.net project to import from the sourceforge.net project Emle (this actually set the launchpad.net project to mirror the sourceforge.net project rather than just inport the content once) Examined the launchpad.net project to see that the three commits (#1 - #3) which were done in the sourceorge.net project previousley made it into launchpad.net. Used bzrto get the launchpad.net project which I did while is was still set for mirroring. Made three changes and commits using bzr (#4 - #6). Was unable to see the changes on the launchpad.net site. Requested the mirroring to be stopped (it did).   • Would Ruby on Rails be appropriate for this Foreign Language project?

    I'm a Spanish professor & computer groupie. About 15 years ago, I authored in HyperCard a series of verb conjugation programs that are now completely out of date with respect to System OS X. I would like to redo these programs myself because I had a lot of fun doing them last time (mostly I coded while my son played in Leaps and Bounds, you know, one of those places where parents take their kids & let them run wild through the tubes...). Colleagues have mentioned using Flash, Director, and various other solutions, but I saw a presentation on RoR at our SIDLIT conference today, and was inspired. I will be parsing and comparing strings (and there are other features on top of that, but that is the main one), "adding" strings relationally indexed in some kind of database(s). It will also have to handle various foreign characters (accents, upside down question marks, etc.). On top of the main process of the program, it will have to provide a practice vs. test mode, keep track of specific answers as well as totals right/wrong, and print a report. Would this be either easier and/or more efficiently done in RoR than in other languages. I am pretty sure that it will work on a Microsoft server, right? Because I think that is where most of our stuff is. I would be programming either on a Mac or a PC, whichever you think is easier. So, in summary, is RoR the way for me to go with this project? If I have some (little) experience programming in Hypercard and C, should I be able to pick RoR up fairly quickly? What things will I need to start (I already saw something called Redhills foreign key migration plugin, which I assume would be beneficial)? I still have my old scripts from hypercard, however what I would really like to do is to combine all six of my former tense-specific programs into one larger program. I figure that it wouldn't be too hard to reference the individual tenses in some way--could that be a class? Many thanks for any help you can give me on this forum.

    Hi Folks, Learning C++, so be gentle :)... I have been designing my application primarily using heap variables (coming from C), so I've designed structures like this: QList<Criteria*> _Criteria; // ... Criteria *c = new Criteria(....); _Criteria.append(c); All through my program, I'm passing pointers to specific Criteria, or often the list. So, I have a function declared like this: QList<Criteria*> Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria * Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) which inserts a Criteria into a list, and returns the list so my GUI can display it. I'm wondering if I should have used references, somehow. Since I'm always wanting that exact Criteria back, should I have done: QList<Criteria> _Criteria; // .... Criteria c(....); _Criteria.append(c); ... QList<Criteria>& Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria& Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) (not sure if the latter line is syntactically correct yet, but you get the drift). All these items are specific, quasi-global items that are the core of my program. So, the question is this: I can certainly allocate/free all my memory w/o an issue in the method I'm using now, but is there are more C++ way? Would references have been a better choice (it's not too late to change on my side). TIA Mike

  • How does a java web project architecture look like without EJB3 ?

    A friend and I are building a fairly complex website based on java. (PHP would have been more obvious but we chose for java because the educational aspect of this project is important to us) We have already decided to use JSF (with richfaces) for the front end and JPA for the backend and so far we have decided not to use EJB3 for the business layer. The reason we've decided not to use EJB3 is because - and please correct me if I am wrong - if we use EJB3 we can only run it on a full blown java application server like jboss and if we don't use EJB3 we can still run it on a lightweight server like tomcat. We want to keep speed and cost of our future web server in mind. So far i've worked on two JEE projects and both used the full stack with web business logic factories/persistence service entities with every layer a seperate module. Now here is my question, if you dont use EJB3 in the business logic layer. What does the layer look like? Please tell what is common practice when developing java web projects without ejb3? Do you think business logic layer can be thrown out altogether and have business logic in the backing beans? If you keep the layer, do you have all business methods static? Or do you initialize each business class as needed in the backing beans in every session as needed?

    Hello world, I am stuck with my web application. As known from the title its a ASP.NET MVC(1,0) application so i do the only 2 things that a needed do deploy a application like this. I made a build an copied it to the IIS Folder. In the IDE (VS2008) all works fine :(. This worked a long time. But know i get a error for my included dll of a other project.   • How to auto-increment reference number persistently when NSManagedObjects created in core-data.

    In my application i am using core-data to store information and saving these data to the server using web-connectivity i have to use MySql. Basically what i want to do is to keep track of number of NSManagedObject already created and Whenever i am adding new NSManagedObject, based on that counting it will assign the class a Int_value which will act as primary_key in MySql. For examaple, there are already 10 NSManagedobjects, and when i will add new one it will assign it "11" as primary_key. these value will have to be increasing because there is no deleting of NSManagedObject. From my approach its about static member in applicationDelegate whose initial value can be any integer but should be incremented by one(like auto-increment) everytime new NSManagedObject is created and also it should be persistent. I am not clear how to do this, please give me suggestions. Thanks in advance.

  • When getting substring in .Net, does the new string reference the same original string data or does

    Assuming I have the following strings: string str1 = "Hello World!"; string str2 = str1.SubString(6, 5); // "World" I am hoping that in the above example str2 does not copy "World", but simply ends up being a new string that points to the same memory space only that it starts with an offset of 6 and a length of 5. In actuality I am dealing with some potentially very long strings and am interested in how this works behind the scenes for performance reasons. I am not familiar enaugh with IL to look into this.

    I have an ASP.NET 2.0 ListView control (aka:parent) and configured inside this ListView I have another ListView (aka:child). For each row the parent has there is potentially a child ListView control which can have 1-3 rows. Each row has two checkboxes (a select checkbox and a deny checkbox). I need to process these checkboxes in JavaScript so that if one select is chosen on any of the rows all other select checkboxes are unchecked AND the deny checkbox for that row only is unchecked. The rows which were NOT selected CAN have the deny checkboxes checked. What is the best approach to this?

  • How do I pass a reference type to Control.Invoke / display a form centered on the main form

    I'm on a thread other than the UI thread and need to display a modal form that's centered on the application's main form. What I usually do is use the width and height of the main form and the modal form to calculate the location, then use the PointToScreen method of the main form to get the location of the modal form. Since I'm on another thread I need to use Control.Invoke to call this method. I just can't figure out how to pass a parameter of type Point to Control.Invoke (params object[]). Value types and String works fine. Or, if someone can find a better way to display a form centered on the main form regardless of thread, that would be great. MessageBox seems to be able to do this (although not modally).

    Hello I have a form in witch users can add their working hours view them and edit them (All in one page). When adding working hours the user must select a project from a dropdown list. In case the action is adding a new hour record the dropdown field should remain empty (not selected) in case the action is edit the dropdown field should be selected with the appropriate value. In order to overcome this challenge I wrote the following code <% if params[:id].blank?%> <select name="hour[project_id]" id="hour_project_id"> <option value="nil">Select Project</option> <% @projects.each do|project|%> <option value="<%=project.id %>"><%=project.name%></option> <% end%> </select> <% else %> <%= select('hour','project_id', @projects.collect{|project|[project.name,project.id]},{:prompt => 'Select Project'})%> <% end %> So in case of save action I did the dropdown list only with html, and in case of edit action I did it with the collect method. It works fine until I tried to code the errors. The problem is that when I use the error method: validates_presence_of :project_id it didn't recognize it in the html form of the dropdown list and don’t display the error message (its working only for the dropdown with the collect method). I will deeply appreciate your instructions and help in this matter

    Given the following tables: Product ----------- ProductId : int (PK) ProductVersion : int ProductHistory ----------- ProductId : int (PK) ProductVersion : int (PK) Item ----------- ItemId : int (PK) ProductId : int (FK) -- ProductId + ProductVersion relates to ProductHistory ProductVersion : int (FK) And the following classes: public class Product { } public class Item { public Product Product { get; set; } } What I want to happen is this; we get a Product from the Product table, assign it to Item.Product property. But that Item.Product property should map to ProductHistory. The idea is that only the latest version of a product is in the main Product table, so we allow customers to search against that table (so that if each product has 4 versions and there are 1000 products, we only need to query though 1000 products, not 1000 products * 4 versions of each).     Hi SO's I have a question on good database design practices and I would like to leverage you guys for pointers. The project started out simple. Hey we have a bunch of questions we want answered for every project (no problem) Which turned into... Hey we have so many questions can we group them into sections (yup we can do that) Which lead into.. Can we weight these questions and I don't really want some of these questions for my project (Yes but we are getting difficult) And then I'm thinking they will want to have each section have it's own weight.. Requirements So there's the requirements - For n number of project Allow a admin member the ability select the questions for a project Allow the admin member to re-weigh or use the default weights for the questions Allow the admin member to re-weight the sections Allow team members to answer the questions.     I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Are there any good sites or books that would have a better explanation of 64-bit assembly (Windows or Linux/Unix) with some good code examples?
