Inside this folder \domain.local\SYSVOL\domain.local\Policies{DF3F608C-8D78-934F-B79F-1965F3C4409B}\User\Scripts\Logon I have cmd files for each host/workstation and the logon.cmd. Terminal Servers are honoring the environment variable %clientname% but the workstations are not. • "Access denied" to C:\Documents and Settings after removing malware?

  My Windows 7 PC became infected with the so-called "Malware Protection designed to protect" trojan while I was at work the other day. I managed to kill the process so that the malware is no longer running. The removal instructions specify to delete the following file: c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\defender.exe However, when I click to c:\documents and settings, it says "Access denied". Prior to this malware infection, I've never had any trouble accessing "Documents and Settings" or "Application Data." I read that in Windows 7, c:\documents and settings is a psudonym for c:\users, but I still cannot find the file defender.exe. Suggestions?

• Clean Install Windows on a Acer Aspire Laptop with a Hybrid Drive

  I'd like to do a clean install of Windows 8 on my Acer Aspire laptop (Aspire M5-481PT) with a hybrid drive. Physically, there seem to be two hard drives (an HDD and an SSD). So when I try to clean install Windows, I am asked to pick a drive. The HDD has five partitions (some seem to be recovery related), and the SSD has two partitions. Which partitions should I delete (if any), and onto which drive should I install Windows 8? And then how can I instruct Windows 8 to use the HDD-SSD combination as a hybrid drive? Edit: Currently, the operating system seems to be installed (from the factory) on the HDD. The SSD is invisible in File Explorer. It is only visible in disk utilities. I'm betting I need to install Windows to the HDD, and then point Windows to use the SSD for the hybrid relationship. Also, the SSD is about 20 GB. The HDD is about 450 GB.

• Linux command line based spam checker?

  Does a command line based spam checker exist? We have created a mailbox at a 3rd party, and unfortunately decided on spam checking 'disabled' in the initial setup. There is no way to re-enable spam checking, the mailbox must be delete (and thus all contents lost) and re-created. Does anything exist where we can pump in either: A) Subject + from + to + body + all other fields. OR B) Raw message dump (headers + body). And the command line will let us know weather the email is possibly spam? Thanks.

  I'm looking into creating an email address with a professional name on gmail and due to the fact that I can't change my current one I have to create new google account. Among some things which which need to be patched (eg. forwarding email to the new address until every other account's email contact address is changed etc.) I came across authorized applications. If I am to use exclusively the new email address I have to somehow move my authorized applications as well since if I am to eventually delete my old account I will lose access to my current profiles created by those applications (eg. the stackexchange network, youtube etc). How can this move be accomplished?

  Im getting an error half way through an SQL Server 2008 r2 installation. The error states Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller. it asks to retry or cancel. Upon trying both, the error message returns and I must cntrl-alt-delete to end the process. I have checked all permissions associated with local account, network domain account and ran installation as administrator. I have searched on the web and other people are having this problem too but I cant find a solution. so I turn to the experts, anyone encounter this error??

  Hi, I have an InnoDB table for visitors' counting, which has perfectly worked for several years, but it failed twice yesterday, may be cause of the increase of visitors Without apparent reason, this table locked, with hundreds of DELETE an REPLACE INTO queries (+500) with "updating" or "cleaning up" status. (I've no more the copy of the processlist...) This table contains few entries, between 500 and 1500, so the updating queries are usualy very fast and don't lock. I don't know where I must search to find the cause of this problem and resolve it definitively. • Saving backup files automatically in (g)Vim after saving a file.

  I had a problem with my gVim. I lost some important modifications after I plugged on my machine after a hibernating process. To avoid this kind of problem, I would like to know if it's possible to add something in my .vimrc (or a plugin) that automatically backups all saving made to my files. Disk space is not an issue, I can delete these files after. I'm already using set backup set backupdir=~/.backup/vim set directory=~/.swap/vim This creates a myfile.extension~ in my .backup/vim. ...but I would like this configuration to add ~ to first save, ~0 to second, ~1 to third, ~2 to fourth, and so on - something that keeps copies from all modifications I made to a file. Is this possible? Do you know if there's a plugin for this?

• Vista Startup - Cannot Find the File Specified

  Yesterday I restarted my laptop because my Wi-Fi catcher wasn't working correctly, and when the computer reached the login screen, instead of showing my user account it said "Cannot find the file specified". I rebooted and ran the Startup Repair and Memory Diagnostics but nothing showed up. I also took the battery out for a minute and tried again but still no luck. The weird thing is that I cannot even boot into safe mode, it still shows the same error. I don't remember downloading or opening anything suspicious recently, and I have 3 different cleaners/anti-malware programs as well that I usually run about once a week. I did go into the registry recently but I didn't modify or delete anything as I was only checking to see if I had a certain key in it. I have a Dell laptop running Vista Home Basic SP2. If I have to I can reinstall the OS with the CD or even take it to Best Buy but I'd rather try and fix it first. Thanks.

  Unfortunately, I have hard deleted the microsoft sql server folder present in program files folder. So now I need to uninstall the MSSQL server from my machine. I have tried but I got an error something like "The source folder is missing". For resolving this issue, I have manually deleted the MS SQL services using "sc delete" command and I have deleted the MSSQL entry from regedit file also. But still MS SQL server entry available in "Programs and Features" list. Please guide me for solving this issue even I can't able to re install the MSSQL server once again. Thank you guys... • Windows Command queue?

  i'm thinking if does exist some kind of software that can put in a queue a bunch of windows commands... for example i can say to first copy some file somewhere, then rename those, then delete the old files, then edit one of them etc.... without waiting the effective execution of any of those passages.... this could be useful when copying big files that take a lot and i don't want to sit in front of the computer keeping the eyes on the progress bar... does exist anything like this?

  I run a backup from Windows 7 machine to Mac machine running Mountain Lion using rsync that is packaged in DeltaCopy application. I can't use DeltaCopy interface because the destination is a mapped drive (Mac's samba drive). So here is my setup: I have a folder in Mac that is the destination folder and I share this folder via Samba share. On windows machine, I map this samba share to a drive (let's say M:/) I run rsync: rsync -arv --delete "/cygdrive/C//origin/" "/cygdrive/M//mybackup/" it runs fine except that all files on the destination are hidden. Anyone has an idea on what's happening here? I really appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

• When I remove the SSL port 443 from IIS my website stops loading, how can I have it just work with only port 80 and no SSL?

  I am trying to disable SSL, I delete the 443 port so there is only an entry for port 80 and now the site won't load at all. If I re-add the 443 configuration it loads fine. What is causing it to require that? Why can't I set it up to run without SSL? Instead of just failing it should just load the page without HTTPS. If I disable port 443 and then I browse via HTTP, it STILL fails even though I am not trying to use HTTPS. What gives? When/where/how does it decide to use SSL?

• need help from some professional how to redirect old or invalid url

  I recently upgraded a site and almost all URLs have changed. I have redirected all of them (or so I hope) but it may be possible that some of them have slipped by me. Is there a way to somehow catch all invalid URLs and send the user to a certain page and somehow know what URL the person came from so I could log this, and fix those? I'm thinking I could use .htaccess somehow but am not sure how.   Real quick question, A few months back I have set up email accounts exchange using AD on a domain all is fine. (email, address books ,calendars etc.) But I left the old .pst files on a networked drive. For some reason outlook the clients are still accessessing the old .pst not for (email, address books ,calendars). I have removed an account with no adverse effect as a test. But can any one tell me why outlook is still accessing the old .pst, as I was going to delete all the old .pst files until they all had todays timestamp on.

I want to delete these OSs and replace with ubuntu only. it does have a network boot option - i was wondering if the easiet way is to steup some sort of network boot server on my other computer (which has ubunutu) and get the machine to boot from it so i can install linux? i cant seem to find instructions on the 'net as to how i would go about doing this... any pointers would be most appreciated. thanks!

  I have two user accounts within my WinXP Pro PC. One I'd like to erase. But I'd also like to setup a GUEST user account. I've already gotten 2-step instructions on how to get rid of the extraneous account: a) use an MS tool called delprof.msi b) manually delete the former users files in Documents & Settings. But I guess my original question was too complex -- kind of like a bill in Congress. So now I am just asking the final part of the question: How do I create a GUEST ACCOUNT -- then define what it will authorize/grant access to? i.e. internet browser(s), specific programs and files etc

• windows symbolic file links arn't followed through network access

  I have a server with win7 and a big share on C:\share In this share there are many symbolic links to files on other local disks like C:\share\file.txt(symlink) <- D:\file.txt I can access the file over: C:\share\file.txt \server\share\file.txt but if I try to access from an other pc I can't open the file. I'm able to delete, rename ... the link but it seems that the symbolic link isn't processed by the server. Can I change something with cifs to make this work? I already checked the acls of the link and the file and set them to allow everybody everything. I also can access the file with d$. Hope there is a solution...

• Why can't I change the icon being displayed for a desktop shortcut?

  I wanted to change the icon showing for a shortcut on the desktop, which points to a .Net utility I created for myself. I rebuilt the exe after changing the icon used within the project. In Windows Explorer the new icon shows in all size variations for the exe. In the 'Change Icon' dialog from the Properties option, the correct icon is showing as present, yet when I Apply it remains with the old icon? Even when I delete the shortcut and create a new one pointing to the newly built exe the old icon somehow is assigned?

• Only show changed files with verbose option

  I would like rsync to print modified and deleted files. The verbose option (-v) does print modified files but also the list of subdirectories, maybe because touched directories are considered modified. Since I sync a lot of files from a lot of subdirectories, it's impossible to see the actual changes. So, is there a way to not print directories using rsync ? Im not looking for grep -v "*/$" kind of answers since it would also exclude new directories. Command I am using: rsync -avh --delete /media/data/src /media/data/bkp And everytime it prints the list of all directories: src/dir1/ src/dir1/sdir1/ src/dir1/sdir2/ src/dir2/ ..... • SBS 2008 - Blank desktop while installing

  I'm trying to install SBS 2008 Standard Ed on a VMware Workstation 8. The installation runs fine up until some point where the desktop becomes completely blank. The server is still running and responds to CTRL+ALT+DELETE and CTRL+ESC, but there are no icons and no explorer-bar. I have tried to install it twice now and each time it comes to a halt at the same spot. Starting Taskmanager and launching explorer.exe only brings up the filemanager. Anyone have a clue to what it could be?

• Missed something? Cant upload files to server (permissions)

  I can upload files as "root" to the Ubuntu server. Then I created a user (me). Next I added the user to the group www-data. Then assigned rwx permissions to www-data. Next, when I try to upload, delete or modify files VIA FILEZILLA, I cant. But via the terminal, I can change files using sudo command. What should I do to be able to upload files without getting the "permission denied" in filezilla? If you need more input let me know. Thanks
