    Hello, I am using rails 3: I would like to render a portion of view which is build by a 'notification' method in message class so I've add in my application.html.erb : <li><%= render :action => "notification", :controller => "messages" %></li> The goal of my file notification.html.erb is to display in a red circle the number of notifications in all my pages.     If I'm building a library in ruby, what's the best way to allow users of the library to set module-wide settings that will be available to all sub classes etc of the library? A good example would be if I'm writing a library for posting to a webservice: TheService::File.upload("myfile.txt") # Uploads anonymously TheService::Settings.login("myuser","mypass") # Or any other similar way of doing this TheService::File.upload("myfile.txt") # Uploads as 'myuser' The idea would be that unless TheService::Settings.logout is called then all TheService operations would be conducted under myuser's account. Any ideas?

    I'm using Entity Framework for creation of my Data Access Layer and I want for all of my classes to be internal. I know it is possible to manually assign it manually in the designer for each class. But looks like it also requires to set internal modifier for each single property in every class! I have about 30+ entities and it will be a huge work to do. Do you know any ideas how to set a 'default access' for the entire model?

  • The second floating div in chrome clears down before first div.

    Two divs are next to eachother, both floating left within a wrapper. In IE and firefox they appear correctly, but in Chrome, the 2nd floating div clears down below Div A. When I remove "float:left" in the css, it goes to the correct position in Chrome, but clears down in IE and firefox (as it should). I dont know why it is appearing this way in Chrome. Any ideas?

  • How do I declare a constructor for an 'object' class type in Scala? I.e., a one time operation for the singleton.

    I know that objects are treated pretty much like singletons in scala. However, I have been unable to find an elegant way to specify default behavior on initial instantiation. I can accomplish this by just putting code into the body of the object declaration but this seems overly hacky. Using an apply doesn't really work because it can be called multiple times and doesn't really make sense for this use case. Any ideas on how to do this?

But I don't think it is happy with that. The code where it calls the function: $rounds[$round][0] = flip($rounds[$round][0]); Any ideas?

    I would like to use Python's tempfile module to create a temporary file that I will use for communication between processes (use of pipes is awkward). The documentation I've linked to above shows two functions that almost do what I want: tempfile.NamedTemporaryFile # For creating named tempfiles tempfile.SpooledTemporaryFile # For creating tempfiles in memory but actually I want a tempfile that is both named AND in memory. Any ideas?

I'm just using the java.io.File package and there is a canWrite() method but that doesn't seem to test if the file is in use by another program. Any ideas on how I can make this work?
