• Using tab key to navigate google search results

  Google the phrase "Humans vs zombies" (just used for an example here, phrase doesn't matter). When you see the search results, put your fingers on the keyboard, and press tab until you get to the first result. It takes me over 10 tabs to get through the "images", "videos", "maps", "advanced search" and other links. (Do you get the same results?) How can I get it so pressing the tab key the first time takes me to the first link? I'm using FF 3.6. How might I be able to greasemonkey this?

• Simple Emacs keybindings

  I have two operations that I do all the time in Emacs: Create a new buffer and paste the clipboard. [C-S-n] Close the current buffer. [C-S-w] Switch to the last viewed buffer [C-TAB] I feel like a keyboard acrobat when doing the first two operations. I think it would be worth trying some custom keybindings and macros. A few questions about this customization: How would I make a macro for #1? Are these good keybindings (i know this is a bit subjective, but they might be used by something popular that I don't use) Has anyone found a Ctrl-Tab macro that will act like Alt-Tab in Linux/Windows? Specifically, I want it have a stack of buffers according to the last viewed timestamp (most recent on top). I want to continue cycling through the stack until I let go of the ctrl key. When the ctrl key is released, I want the current buffer to get an updated position on the stack.

• How to get or make a WPF WebBrowser with a visual.

  Having problems related to WPF WebBrowser not having a visual. Reason being, that it actually a wrapper around the winforms browser. Anyways, I searched the web for any solution to this problem, and got hold of the following suggestions: http://chriscavanagh.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/a-real-wpf-webbrowser/ http://rob.runtothehills.org/archives/60 The first one solves everything, but seems like an overkill. Plus, the dll's should be licensed for commercial use. The second one seems simple, but not able to figure out when to refresh the screen. Plus there's so much to do like sending mouse and keyboard messages to the webbrowser. P.S. The problem I'm trying to solve is to show the same webbrowser on different windows. They both must be interactive, and always in sync visually.

• JQuery Autocomplete - Stop mouseover+Return submitting data

  I'm using JQuery Autocomplete (bassistance) and have run into a problem. If the mouse rolls over one of the autocomplete suggestions and the user hits the return key (rather than clicking to make selection), the form is submitted and goes to whatever link was rolled over at the time. This is a problem as people click in the textbox, and when typing their search, leave the pointer where the autocomplete popup appears. So when they hit enter, it doesn't do the search for whatever they typed in the box but whatever was highlighted in the autocomplete suggestions. Is there a way to stop this? Using Google as the functionality I'm after... So just to clarify - I want selections via mouse and keyboard to go to the same place, but if the UP or DOWN arrow has not been pressed (user not selected an autocomplete option via the keyword), dont go to the URL specified in the autosuggest - instead submit the form (traditional method without JQuery) based on what has been typed in the textbox. I hope I'm explaining this clearly? :S

• How do I enable SVN menu in an editor window in Eclipse?

  The SVN menu is disabled whenever I'm in an edit window; it's enabled when I'm in the Navigator or similar file browsing windows. I'd like to have the SVN menu enabled while the editor window is open in order so that I can set up a key binding and commit while editing the document rather than having to switch over to the navigation view to commit a file. This is Eclipse 3.5 using Eclipse's Subversion Connectors plugin. This may be related: I had to do a reinstall of eclipse and a fair number of the keybindings no longer work the way the once did. In addition, many keystrokes now only work in windows only instead of windows and dialogs (specifically select all, copy, and paste). If these problems are related and there's an easy way to repair or refresh my keybindings without having to start over completely that would be great. Clarification I know how to set up key mappings. That's not a problem. I have them set up. The problem is that the SVN menu is disabled in the editor pane. I can access the SVN menu from the Navigator or similar panes, and I've set up the keymappings exactly the way I want them. They just aren't working in all contexts.

• Oracle Forms 6i master-detail question from a painfully new newbie

  Hello, I have a form that contains 3 blocks (block a, b, c). There is a master-detail relationship between b (detail) and c (master). Data-flow: you enter an ID in block a, which in turn populates block c and corresponding details in block b. Control goes immediately to block c. Objective: I need to be able to update details of block b. Issue: I cannot navigate to block b. Keep in Mind: --In the Property Palette Keyboard Navigable is set to "Yes" --Insert Allowed and Update Allowed are set to "Yes." If someone could respond ASAP I would really appreciate it. • WPF texbox focus when render to offscreen buffer

  i am rendering a textbox to an offscreen buffer using RenderTargetBitmap and i want to enter text into this textbox, however, i can't set the textbox focus (using Focus() has no effect - presumably because the canvas is not attached to a real window?) this has two consequenes: 1 the keyboard input doesn't get captured 2. even if i set the text manually using TextBox text and CaretIndex = index i dont get a caret because of the lack of focus. is there a way to make this focus somehow? and if not, i'd like to at least have the caret visible even if there is no focus, but can't see a way of doing this.

  I am developing a time management tool for my personal use. I prefer using keyboard over mouse, and on the interface have a general purpose text box which will act like a command line. I have just started thinking about what commands I need, what to use for the command names, how to pass in switches and parameters, and so forth. I wonder if some of you have come across a good read along these lines; something that describes the choices you have for designing a cli, and how those affect the complexity of the interpreter, and extendability of the commands. It makes no difference if the descriptions are language-specific or in general terms. However, my implementation will be with javascript. Thank you.

  I have a UIPresentationFormSheet (contains a textview) that appears in the center of the screen when I am in vertical orientation. When I dismiss the modal view, it disappears fine. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. • How can I make visual studio 2010 deploy (or FTP upload) a page on save?

  Just started using Visual Studio 2010, moved over from Netbeans. I kinda liked the Netbeans upload on save functionality, which was useful in development environments when one is constantly making small changes and testing them. As soon as you saved a file, it would be synced to the FTP server. Is it possible to do this in VS? I'm pretty sure there is a way, using a macro of some sort, and having it run on every save? However I have no idea how to implement it... Maybe even a keyboard shortcut to deploy the current working file would be nice.

• In FLEX, How can you stop ENTER Key from my Alert being caught by the control that initiated the Al

  I am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky.   Watching a movie is quite a different user activity. User doesn't touch neither mouse nor keyboard. Yet he 'actively' uses the computer. Thus, screensaver shouldn't run, indexing should be performed with care etc. On the other side, playing video requires either using direct write to video memory, or DirectShow, or some other API.   I am working on rewriting my unexpected error handling process, and I would like to ask the community: What information do you capture both automatic, and manually, when software you have written crashes? Right now, I capture a few items, some of which are: Automatic: Name of app that crashed Version of app that crashed Stack trace Operating System version RAM used by the application Number of processors Screen shot: (Only on non-public applications) User name and contact information (from Active Directory) Manual: What context is the user in (i.e.: what company, tech support call number, RA number, etc...) When did the user expect to happen? (Typical response: "Not to crash”) Steps to reproduce. What other bits of information do you capture that helps you discover the true cause of an applications problem, especially given that most users simply mash the keyboard when asked to tell you what happened. For the record I’m using C#, WPF and .NET version 4, but I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to those.   I heavily rely on Opera's speed dial and password management features. Lack of these two features is really stopping me from switching to another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Opera's password management has two unique characteristics which I rely on heavily: It saves passwords on all pages, (apparently) despite the page's meta data asking not to save passwords. It offers keyboard shortcut and button to automatically fill in username/passwords and all other fields in a login form, then automatically submit the form.   According to Five Simple Database Design Errors You Should Avoid by Anith Sen, using a common-lookup table to store the possible statuses for an entity is a common mistake. Why is this wrong? I disagree that it's wrong, citing the example of jobs at a repair service with many possible statuses that generally have a natural flow, eg.: Booked In Assigned to Technician Diagnosing problem Waiting for Client Confirmation Repaired & Ready for Pickup Repaired & Couriered Irreparable & Ready for Pickup Quote Rejected Arguably, some of these statuses can be normalised to tables like Couriered Items, Completed Jobs and Quotes (with Pending/Accepted/Rejected statuses), but that feels like unnecessary schema complication. Another common example would be order statuses that restrict the status of an order, eg: Pending Completed Shipped Cancelled Refunded The status titles and descriptions are in one place for editing and are easy to scaffold as a drop-down with a foreign key for dynamic data applications. This has worked well for me in the past. If the business rules dictate the creation of a new order status, I can just add it to OrderStatus table, without rebuilding my code.

  If user starts pressing keys using keyboards then JTable is supposed to be searched the matching text for him and if user double clicks on cell then Table should allow him to edit the text. And the issue is - Table is only searching text when the table is in non-editable mode and if Table is editable and user starts typing the text-using keyboard, cell is allowing him to edit the cell rather then search. Mr mKorbel has just solved my issue to allow edit only if double click on Table cell. Please help me to allow my JTable to search the text even the table is in editable mode on key-press.

  Hello everyone, I've started a little game, and so far I'm moving a little guy with onKeyDown() and the DPAD from Android Emulator. Now what I want to do is to add 4 buttons on the screen (like in a GAMEBOY emulator for example) and these buttons should move my little guy. With a clickListener and onClick() (or touchListener and onTouch()), it's ok for one move but how to do if I want that my little guy continues moving when I stay clicked on the button ??? Buttons are enough or should I make a 4 arrows soft keyboard or anything else ?? Thanks

• System("pause"); - Why is it wrong?

  Here's a question that I don't quite understand: The command, System("pause"); is taught to new programmers as a way to pause a program and wait for a keyboard input to continue. However, it seems to be frowned on by many veteran programmers as something that should not be done in varying degrees. Some people say it is fine to use. Some say it is only to be used when you are locked in your room and no one is watching. Some say that they will personally come to your house and kill you if you use it. I, myself am a new programmer with no formal programming training. I use it because I was taught to use it. What I don't understand is that if it is not something to be used, then why was I taught to use it? Or, on the flip side, is it really not that bad after all? What are your thoughts on this subject?

• Is there any "modern" text editor with command-line?

  A command line in a text editor is a wonderful feature. It allows the user to explore the editor's functionality and learn it's shortcuts in a textual way. It's much faster than using the mouse, and it is much easier to memorise "shortcuts" this way. Emacs and VI provide this, though, emacs and vi are not "modern". By "modern", I mean one that is original built to cope with the modern de-facto standards of selecting, copying, pasting, cutting, undoing, redoing and auto-completing. Cream/vi or EmacsCUE are not valid options, since there are loads of things built over them that conflict with the mentioned stuff. Is there any alternative? (I do not intend to use the "modern" term as derrogatory. I love both Emacs and VI, but I hate their keyboard shortcut baggage.) (please do not advertise Vim and Emacs, that's not answering the question. I am asking for alternatives)
