• OpenCV in Python can't scan through pixels

  Hi everyone, I'm stuck with a problem of the python wrapper for OpenCv. I have this function that returns 1 if the number of black pixels is greater than treshold def checkBlackPixels( img, threshold ): width = img.width height = img.height nchannels = img.nChannels step = img.widthStep dimtot = width * height data = img.imageData black = 0 for i in range( 0, height ): for j in range( 0, width ): r = data[i*step + j*nchannels + 0] g = data[i*step + j*nchannels + 1] b = data[i*step + j*nchannels + 2] if r == 0 and g == 0 and b == 0: black = black + 1 if black >= threshold * dimtot: return 1 else: return 0 The loop (scan each pixel of a given image) works good when the input is an RGB image...but if the input is a single channel image I get this error: for j in range( width ): TypeError: Nested sequences should have 2 or 3 dimensions The input single channel image (called 'rg' in the next example) is taken from an RGB image called 'src' processed with cvSplit and then cvAbsDiff cvSplit( src, r, g, b, 'NULL' ) rg = cvCreateImage( cvGetSize(src), src.depth, 1 ) # R - G cvAbsDiff( r, g, rg ) I've also already noticed that the problem comes from the difference image got from cvSplit... • Ruby: Is there a better way to iterate over multiple (big) files?

  Here's what I'm doing (sorry for the variable names, I'm not using those in my code): File.open("out_file_1.txt", "w") do |out_1| File.open("out_file_2.txt", "w") do |out_2| File.open_and_process("in_file_1.txt", "r") do |in_1| File.open_and_process("in_file_2.txt", "r") do |in_2| while line_1 = in_1.gets do line_2 = in_2.gets #input files have the same number of lines #process data and output to files end end end end end The open_and_process method is just to open the file and close it once it's done. It's taken from the pickaxe book. Anyway, the main problem is that the code is nested too deeply. I can't load all the files' contents into memory, so I have to iterate line by line. Is there a better way to do this? Or at least prettify it?

• Blacklisting: IP's or domains?

  I am implementing a blacklisting system on my website that monitors contact forms for suspicious usage (both spam content and excessive frequency). When I find somebody / robot that meets my criteria for blacklisting, I want to send them to my DB as a blacklisted entity. My question is, should I blacklist them as an IP or as a domain? As far as I can see, blacklisting an IP is going to be far more effective, because I allow people to enter their email address in the form, and they can easily just change their domain on a regular basis. However, the downside is that if I blacklist an IP, I could potentially be blacklisting a large group of people who share an IP, when only one person is bad (ie - college campuses, coffee shops, etc). Is there a solution I'm missing?

• Passing a non-iterable to list.extend ()

  Hello, I am creating a public method to allow callers to write values to a device, call it write_vals() for example. Since these values will by typed live, I would like to simplify the user's life by allowing them type in either a list or a single value, depending on how many values they need to write. For example: write_to_device([1,2,3]) or write_to_device(1) My function would like to work with a flat list, so I tried to be clever and code something like this: input_list = [] input_list.extend( input_val ) This works swimmingly when the user inputs a list, but fails miserably when the user inputs a single integer: TypeError: 'int' object is not iterable Using list.append() would create a nested list when a list was passed in, which would be an additional hassle to flatten. Checking the type of the object passed in seems clumsy and non-pythonic and wishing that list.extend() would accept non-iterables has gotten me nowhere. So has trying a variety of other coding methods. Suggestions (coding-related only, please) would be greatly appreciated.

• IIS6 Front Page Extension: Set Reply-To in Webbot mailers

  We are running some old legacy IIS6 websites with frontpage extensions. The contact forms (using webbot frontpage extension) use the administrators email address as from address which is pretty cumbersome as our customers tend to click just reply in the requests they receive and we always get these mails and have to bother about them. How do you set a reply-to per webbot form? Or how do you set a from or reply-to globally per IIS6 vhost? In the HTML code it looks like this: <!--webbot bot="SaveResults" S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" S-Email-Address="[email protected]" ... --> But this is the recipient address. Additional question: Will it be sufficient to just change this code? Or do I need to apply settings elsewhere?

• windows service application run fine on windows XP but crashes on windows7

• Rails I18n accepts_nested_attributes_for and error_messages_for

  I've got two models class SurveyResponse has_many :answers, :class_name => SurveyResponseAnswer.name accepts_nested_attributes_for :answers end class SurveyResponseAnswer belongs_to :survey_response validates_presence_of :answer_text end In my nested form if validation fails I get this error displayed on the screen: "answers answer text can't be blank" I've customized my attribute names somewhat successfully using rails I18n. It doesn't behave exactly how I would expect though. The yml file below doesn't affect how the attribute name is printed in error_messages_for en: activerecord: models: survey_response: answers: "Response" But if from script/console I try SurveyResponse.human_attribute_name("answers") I get the expected result of "Response". What I'd like to do is have the validation error message say: "Response answer text can't be blank". Any ideas what I need to fix?

• spring web application context is not loaded from jar file in WEB-INF/lib when running tomcat in eclipse

  I am experimenting with spring, maven, and eclipse but stumbling on a weird issue. I am running Eclipse Helios SR1 with the STS (Spring tools suite) plugin which includes the Maven plugin also. What i want to achieve is a spring mvc webapp which uses an application context loaded from a local application context xml file, but also from other application contexts in jar files dependencies included in WEB-INF/lib. What i'd ultimately like to do is have my persistence layer separated in its own jar file but containing its own spring context files with persistence specific configuration (e.g a jpa entityManagerFactory for example). So to experiment with loading resources from jar dependencies, i created a simple maven project from eclipse, which defines an applicationContext.xml file in src/main/resources Inside, i define a bean <bean id="mybean" class="org.test.MyClass" /> and create the class in the org.test package I run mvn-install from eclipse, which generates me a jar file containing my class and the applicationContext.xml file: testproj.jar |_META-INF |_org |_test |_MyClass.class |_applicationContext.xml I then create a spring mvc project from the Spring template projects provided by STS. I have configured an instance of Tomcat 7.0.8 , and also an instance of springSource tc Server within eclipse. Deploying the newly created project on both servers works without problem. I then add my previous project as a maven dependency of the mvc project. the jar file is correctly added in the Maven Dependencies of the project. In the web.xml that is generated, i now want to load the applicationContext.xml from the jar file as well as the existing one generated for the project.   I'd like to create a lot of extension methods for some generic class, e.g. for public class SimpleLinkedList<T> where T:IComparable And I've started creating methods like this: public static class LinkedListExtensions { public static T[] ToArray<T>(this SimpleLinkedList<T> simpleLinkedList) where T:IComparable { //// code } } But when I tried to make LinkedListExtensions class generic like this: public static class LinkedListExtensions<T> where T:IComparable { public static T[] ToArray(this SimpleLinkedList<T> simpleLinkedList) { ////code } } I get "Extension methods can only be declared in non-generic, non-nested static class". And I'm trying to guess where this restriction came from and have no ideas.

  Do we have to explicitly manage database resources when using Spring Framework.. liking closing all open connections etc? I have read that Spring relieves developer from such boiler plate coding... This is to answer an error that I am getting in a Spring web app: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded The jdbcTemplate is configured in the xml file and the DAO implementation has reference to this jdbcTemplate bean which is used to query the database.

• Proper way to setup a UISegmentedControll on UINavigationController UINavigationBar all inside UITab

  The title pretty much describes it all. The problem being the handling of the UISegmentedControll callbacks (button presses). If the content type of all of the nested views was the same (i.e. some UITableViewControllers) then I could just switch dataSource'es and reload the tables. However this is not the case, I have 3 very different views in there that allow further drilldown / interaction based on the NavigationControllers. So the way I have this set up ATM is that there is a "container" class that I put all of the UINavigationControllers in. They all share the same and one UISegmentedController and I redirect the callbacks to the container view controller. This does not feel too good at all. Additionally there is a problem when the user taps on the tab bar icon, the navigation controller pops to root which is ... the empty container view. Here's a picture of what I want to achieve:

• Internet Explorer visual element stacking issue

  Gday All, I know this issue is well known, however I have searched high and low for a solution to no avail. I have created a menu system using nested ordered lists where the menu functionality is controlled by CSS and Jquery. The menu works perfectly in FF, Chrome, Opera and Epiphany. However in IE 6/7/8 my popup menu is being displayed underneath a table. See the image below. The very top box is a div element containing my menu system. I am working with legacy code that uses tables for display so the next box and the "ts found. Try a different subcate" text is in a "td" element of a table. I have tried to force the table to have a lower z-index but this does not work. Any insights into why this is only present in IE would be appreciated. Cheers, Michael

• XQuery - problem with recursive function

  Hi all, Im new on this project and am going to write, what i thought was a simple thing. A recursive function that writes nested xml elements in x levels (denoted by a variable). So far I have come up with this, but keeps getting a compile error. • Server being used to send spam mail. How do I investigate?

  Problem I think my server is being used to send spam with sendmail, I'm getting a lot of mail being queued up that I don't recognize and my mail.log and syslog are getting huge. I've shutdown sendmail, so none of it is getting out but I can't work out where it's coming from. Investigation so far: I've tried the solution in the blog post below and also shown in this thread. It's meant to add a header from wherever the mail is being added and log all all mail to file, so I changed the following lines in my php.ini file: mail.add_x_header = On mail.log = /var/log/phpmail.log But nothing is appearing in the phpmail.log. I used the command here to investigate cron jobs for all users, but nothing is out of place. The only cron being run is the cron for the website. And then I brought up all php files which had been modified in the last 30 days but none of them look suspicious. What else can I do to find where this is coming from? Mail.log reports Turned sendmail back on for second. There are no contact forms on the site, there are a number of forms and they take either filtered text input or plain text input. Mail is still being queued up having switched the website to maintenance mode, which blocks out everyone but the admin. Ok more investigation, it looks like the email is being send by my websites cron which runs every 5 minutes. However there are no cron jobs I've set-up which run more than once an hour and show on the website log so presumably someone has managed to edit my cron somehow. • Convert XCode view-based app to navigation-based app?

  Newbie question: is there an easy way to convert a view-based app to a navigation-based app? I have an existing app sample that was created as a view-based app, and need to be able to create additional viewcontrollers that can be nested. The app is currently using presentModalViewController calls and nibs to display windows. Trying to change these to pushViewController calls results in the views not being displayed. So I'm assuming it's because the pushViewController needs to use a Navigation view. Thanks in advance!

  The following code tries to mimic Polymorphic Embedding of DSLs: rather than giving the behavior in Inner, it is encoded in the useInner method of its enclosing class. I added the enclosing method so that user has only to keep a reference to Inner instances, but can always get their enclosing instance. • Simulating an UNC path with a leading dot

  Being a C# .NET Windows Forms developer, some customers are running our applications on an Apple OS X Mac inside a Parallels virtual machine. Parallels presents host folders to the guest Windows as UNC paths with a leading dot like \\.psf\Home\Some\More\Folders Now an application of us cannot handle the leading dot correctly when accessing files from these kind of shares ("Invalid URI, cannot analyze host name" exception). I want to debug and fix this issue, unfortunately I do have no Mac and Parallels around here to test it. My question is: Is there a way to "simulate" this kind of share on a normal Windows server or client so that I'll be able to debug my application with Visual Studio? What I tried so far: I already tried to edit my HOSTS file to contain an entry like # ... 127.0.0.1 .psf # ... but Windows just seems to not recognize the share at all.

  Hi, I have a custom control contains a label control. I want to set the AssociatedControlId of this label to be other control id on the page, but as soon as I implement the INamingContainer in my custom control, it will run into an error saying "Unable to find control with id 'abc' that is associated with the Label 'xyz'." This would be due to the fact that the label is in a nested naming container and it trys to find the control within the same container but couldn't (as the control is on the page, outside of it own naming container) Anyone know of a way to set this property? • If Possible, How Can One Set Either a Background Color on Cells within a Sizer or Gridlines for the

  I am flailing about with wxWidgets, in particular, the wx.Sizer in wxPython. I have read the documents, I have a copy of wXPython in Action before me, and have set aside the problem to work on other things a better mental model of sizers hopefully gestated within my skull. None of this has worked. I am not grokking, or even getting to the point where I can bang about usefully, how sizers work. In HTML, I could at least set a background color on some div or td, or call forth borders so I could see how things are laid out. Here, I have a grey expanse and no idea which of the nested static box sizers from which it originates. I am giving static box sizers after making a mess out of the grid bag sizers. Either alternative would let me at least get a handle on how these work.
