  I have Windows 7 Professional SP1..64bit... and yes windows genuinely activated. I want to install Windows Media player 12 and it seems i require the "Media Feature pack"... I can't seem to find a good install. I've tried at least 4 of them.. both 64bit and x86.   I try to use a program and I get the following error. /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.15' not found Under /usr/lib64 the libstdc++ I see is libstdc++.so.6.0.13 (and a soft link). • What are good values for PSU voltages?

  Hello, I have an odd computer I'm trying to fix that will crash only during the setup of an OS(crashes on every OS I've tried so far) It's not overheating and it is stripped down as much as possible and I've tried multiple harddrives, and memtest86+ can run on it for 3 hours without a crash or fail. So, I was a bit stumped and was looking in the BIOS for possible causes and found a hardware monitor that shows PSU voltages. They are: VCORE: 1.432V 3.3V: 3.136V 5V: 5.273 12V: 12.144V I thought the 3.3V looked a little low, but I'm not really sure on how "bad" that is. So, what are the good ranges for the voltages on each CPU rail?

  I'm having a Cisco VPN connection to access our branch office. Since several people using the VPN I'm planing to install the VPN client on one of our server and share it through RRAS to save the licenses (like site - to - site). I install RRAS on a windows 2008 R2 (svrw2k8r2) and made the static routes on client computers. I could able to ping to the VPN's IP on svrw2k8r2 server but they can't seems to connect to the servers in other branch through this setup. • 10/100 Network performing at 1.5 to 2.0 megabyte per second - is that below normal?

  This comes out to about 12 to 16 megabit/seond. I've read in forums that people are getting much higher speeds (ie: "40-60 Mb/s" http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7589_102-0.html?threadID=265967). I'm getting my benchmark by having a unmanged 5 port switch connected to a WRT54GS router connect. I'm sending a file from a computer connect to the WRT54GS to another computer that's connect to the unmanaged 5 port switch. Is the linkage of the switch causing this massive overhead? i doubt it. What could explain the slow down? electrical interference?

• Laptop LCD Screen Flickering

  I recognize this is most likely not a software error and likely lies in one of the hardware components. However, about 3 months ago I replaced the LCD screen on this laptop. The company which I bought it through provided a 12 month warranty. Before I contact them, I would like to verify that the problem is most likely the LCD screen and not the inverter. Any comments? I recognize its impossible to diagnose hardware remotely, but it would be nice to know if there is a high probability it could be a component other then the LCD screen.

• Will increasing RAM improve Lightroom 3 large tiff loading times

  Set up: mid 2009 17" unibody MacBook Pro 4GB RAM 2.66 Core 2 Duo Snow Leopard 10.6.6 Lightroom 3 When working with 12 MegaPixel RAW files from a Nikon D700, no problem. Lightroom is fine. Recently I've been scanning film and they result in large tiff files, about 130mb each. The tiff files themselves are good, and I'm happy with my scanning workflow. Working with these files in Lightroom is perfectly fine, except for one step. When I choose one of these photos in the Develop module, Lightroom displays the "Loading" on the image for about a minute or two, which is quite long. Once the image is loaded, then everything is fine again, and applying effects is instant. So my only issue is reducing that "loading" time in the develop module (the library module is fine too). Will increasing my RAM to 8GB help? I'm worried about spending the money and it not making any difference. thanks andy

• mac osx cannot connect to windows 7 machine

  I have a Mac OSX (Snow Leopard 10.6.6) setup on a network with several Windows 7 machines. When trying to place a large file on a Windows share the connection to the Windows share gets lost and I am unable to reconnect until I reboot the Mac. I know this is on the Windows side because the Mac can connect and transfer files to Server 2008 and XP without issue. Looking in the log file I see this message SharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned 12 I have tried restarting the com.apple.netauth.sysagent service but that did not resolve the situation. I can do an nslookup to the Windows 7 machine, but trying to ping the machine by hostname always gives a hostname lookup failure (I can ping via IP address). I cannot connect to the machine via IP adress either. Any help would be appreciated.

  I'm using RHEL 6 (kernel 2.6.32-131) and I'm trying to start oprofile, but I keep getting an error. My oprofile version is 0.9.6-12. I was able to successfully do opcontrol --init But when I did a opcontrol --start --no-vmlinux I got the error Using default event: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000:0:1:1 Error: counter 0 not available nmi_watchdog using this resource ? Try: opcontrol --deinit echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog I don't know if it's safe for me to do this? For what I googled, it seems that nmi_watchdog is used to reboot the system if it hangs, and that sounds like something I want. Also, grep NMI /proc/interrupts shows a bunch of numbers, which I guess indicates that nmi_watchdog is already running? How can I run both oprofile and nmi_watchdog?

• Did Firefox running in OSX get hacked

  When I try to do a google search in Firefox, I can't click on any of the links. They're just regular black text, not hyperlinks. I even tried safe mode and disabling all the plugins. I was running Firefox 12. I installed the current version over it and it's the same thing. Other browsers have not been affected. This is what it looks like. Edit: My firewall was turned off and I had several things running which are potential security holes. I turned on my firewall and closed all unnecessary ports. I also turned off Home Sharing. Then I restarted my computer. After that, Firefox works normally again. What do you think happened?

• PostgreSQL timezone does not match system timezone

  I have several PostgreSQL 9.2 installations where the timezone used by PostgreSQL is GMT, despite the entire system being "Europe/Vienna". I double-checked that postgresql.conf does not contain timezone setting, so according to the documentation it should fallback to the system's timezone. However, # su -s /bin/bash postgres -c "psql mydb" mydb=# show timezone; TimeZone ---------- GMT (1 row) mydb=# select now(); now ------------------------------- 2013-11-12 08:14:21.697622+00 (1 row) Any hints, where the GMT timezone could come from? • Linux, fdisk: change order of partitions

  I have a harddrive with 24 logical partitions on it. Half of them are Linux and half are windows. Current ordering is: 3 Linux partitions; 12 windows partitions; 9 Linux partitions. In this setup, Windows can access any of partition (no limits on partition number), but Linux can't access sda16, sda17 ... Can I change numbering of partitions without moving them on disk? I want to put all Linux partitions to be <16; and windows partitions to be 16, so linux will be able to access all linux partitions. I have fdisk/sfdisk and it sees all partitions.

• OSX: Python packages fail to install, error message "/usr/local/bin: File Exists"

  I keep trying to install django and other python packages, and I keep getting the exact same error message: Installing django-admin.py script to /usr/local/bin error: /usr/local/bin: File exists So I look to make sure that my /usr/local folder is okay. At first glance it appears okay, until I try cd-ing into my bin. It says it can't because it's not a directory. • Dell R510 vs R710

  Hello, the Dell R510 and R710 can both hold regular configurations (e.g. X5650, 24 GB RAM, etc.) and these usually come out to about the same price. Is there a particular reason why one would choose the R510 over the R710 or vice versa? There really appears a lack of differentiating factors. The only 'major' factor I found, which doesn't apply to me though, is that the R510 can hold up to 12 3.5in HDDs while the R710 (which is slightly more expensive) can only hold up to 6 3.5in HDDs. Maybe you guys have some input and bought either of these machines (or both) to shed some light on other differences and why someone should choose one over the other as the pricing is pretty much the same with my configuration. • Copy-paste stops working on Windows 7

  Copy-paste functionality stops working after about an hour after each reboot on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Running Google Chrome (with gmail and few other tabs open like Calendar, Reader), MS Outlook (which I don't think has anything to do with the problem — I saw it when outlook was off as well), iTunes (9.1.1.12 if it matters). Would appreciate hints where and what for to look in a registry, and ideas for possible fix. That is not an Internet Explorer problem (I don't even run it) — it happens in all applications. Neither Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V nor context menu right-click Copy-Paste (actually, nothing happens on Copy, so there is nothing in a clipboard to Paste) are working. Drag-and-Drop (where supported) continues working though.

  The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. • gparted won't boot from liveCD

  Hello, Fedora 12 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686 I downloaded the gparted iso and burnt it to a CD. gparted-live-0.5.2-1 This GParted Live was created by: create-gparted-live -l en -b u -e e -d sid -m http://free.nchc.org.tw/debian -s http://free.nchc.org.tw/debian-security -g http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core -n 2.6.32-3 -i 0.5.2-1 The files and folders: isolinux live syslinux COPYING GParted-Live-Version I put the disk in and reboot. Nothing happens. I just get a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner. I then have to switch of the power button to get it to reboot. I have done this a number of time and the results are the same. Can anyone tell me how to boot from the gparted liveCD? Many thanks for any suggestions,

  I have PostgreSQL 9 running on Windows 2003 SP2. I am trying to replicate it on a Fedora 12 system running PostgreSQL 9 as well. I am hitting this error message: /usr/pgsql-9.0/bin/postgres -D /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ -p 5432 2011-02-11 17:43:26 ISTFATAL: incorrect checksum in control file Because of firewall restrictions, I could not follow the official instructions to the letter. Instead, I zipped the contents of the data directory when the server was offline and copied that to the Linux box. I ran a sha1deep on both directories and there were no mismatches. I changed the rights so that only the postgres user and group had access to the files. Now, what can I do for replication to work? I tried with a 'pg_dumpall', but the system complains that the database IDs do no match.

  I am trying to mount a network drive via AFP on an Ubuntu 10.04 server machine. After installing AFP support, I use the following command: sudo mount_afp afp://USER:[email protected]/directory/ /media/dir This seems to work and it tells me that mounting succeeded. However, when I navigate to /media/dir I get the following error: cd: cfs: Input/output error Permissions in /media are: d????????? ? ? ? ? dir/ drwx------ 12 user 4.0K 2010-10-25 16:08 otherdisk/ So there is a permissions problem here. I eventually want to mount this drive automatically using fstab. What do I need to do to make the disk accessible?

• HP ML115 with P400 Smart Array Controller

  Hi, I have a HP ML115 server I have installed a HP P400 Smart Array Controller card, I also have 4 x 1TB Samsung Hard drives. I'm unable to get the the controller to detect the hard drives, I have changed the drives to SATA 1.5G without luck, I have also tried connecting a single 80GB Maxtor drive without luck The controller shows up just after boot and tries to initialize, The controller does not show up in the POST prompt, although I can see the controller when booting off a ACU CD THe controller firmware is a little old v4.12 but I have no way to update it. Any ideas on how I can get this going?

• RAID1 Hard drives with Intel Controller

  I have an older server with 2 35GB hard drives arranged as a RAID-1 drive. I have 3 open bays, I'd like to add 2 more hard drives to the open bays and have all 4 drives configured as a RAID-1 drive that Windows sees as 1 larger drive. Is this possible? If not, the new drives are 2x as big as the old drives, is it possible to replace 1 of the old drives and rebuild then replace the second drive and rebuild and somehow expand the array to use all of the available space? The server is using an Intel hardware raid controller, the software interface is Intel Storage Console v2.12.

• IDE <-> SATA Adapter Issue - Hard Drive Not recognized

  I was trying to use one of these IDE to SATA adapters (Syba SD-ADA50016 IDE/SATA Converter Bi-directional IDE to SATA) and I connected a working hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA 3.5 Inch 7200 RPM Version 12 Desktop Internal Hard Drive ST3500418AS). I could get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS, but I couldn't boot a Linux disc or install to the drive. I tried to install pfSense to this drive and the install failed because the setup couldn't recognize the file. Has anyone heard of these adapters giving trouble and/or not working properly? I would like to be able to use this device for newer drives on older boards.
