  • Web page for IPhone - Large fonts instead of scrolling?

    I'm planning the layout of my web page, which should also be usable on the IPhone. I don't really have much experience with the IPhone yet - I just installed the IPhone Simulator on my Mac. The page's contents are flexible, so I think it would be better to use this flexibility to avoid that the user has to scroll around the entire page. Especially I have A header and a sidebar that will be used all the time to perform several actions. A main content area with a number of elements (e.g. images). The UI would stay usable pretty well, if the number of elements shown at one time is reduced for a small screen (e.g. by JavaScript). It would also be okay to make the main content area scrollable (as opposed to the entire page). The problem: If I simply display the page on the IPhone, it uses an extremely small font size, so that users must zoom in first, and then scroll around - so that they can't see the header and sidebar all the time. What's the best way to deal with this situation? Just leave it this way (very small fonts), because users expect that behaviour on the IPhone? Increase the font size (by specifying it in em or px or with xx-large, or what would be the best way?), if I detect - somehow - that it's being displayed on the IPhone. Or is there some way to restrict the viewport size to the screen size, and make it zoom in automatically? I think that would be the easiest solution in my case. Or ...?

  • How to add "loading" screen for UIWebView app each time new page is being loaded?

    I have an app that works with tabs and webview. I already have it setup to refresh the page assigned to a tab each time the item on tabbar is selected. My problem now is that it takes some time to load the page and it's impossible to say if the page being displayed is the old or refreshed one. What I want to do is add a "loading" screen (a simple image) which will be displayed until the refreshed page is loaded.   • Why does fb:fan control disappear after login with requireSession on external page?

    Hi, Reqs: I want to make an external page with a 'Become a Fan'-button. I want users to login to facebook once they open the page (this is because of other features in the site) So I call FB.Connect.requireSession once the page loads, and put a <fb:fan></fb:fan> control on the page. Then when I open the page I see the 'Connect with Facebook to Continue' pop-up and a small 'Become a fan' button. This seems right. When I log in to Facebook using the pop-up the 'Become a fan button' disappears!! Can anyone explain this weird behaviour or does someone know a way to reach my requirements in a different way. This page will contain a list of links added by the site administrator which just lead to pages with specific contents. Every page/link is unique to a user(Account).   • Been asked a dozen times, but no luck from what I've read. Prevent Anchor Jumping on page load

    I'm currently working with WP theme that can be found here: sanjay.dmediastudios.com I'm currently using 'smooth scroll' on my page, I'm attempting to have the page smoothly scroll to the requested section when coming from an external link (for instance coming from the blog page takes you to sanjay.dmediastudios.com/#portfolio) from there I want the page to start at the top and THEN scroll to the portfolio section. What's happening is it briefly displays the 'portfolio section' (anchor jump) and THEN resets to the top and scrolls down. It's driving me nuts :(.   • Redirect to prevent dup submission...but then you loose existing data

    Here's the scenario User is on your checkout.aspx page Somewhere in the process, when clicking the pay button, you redirect the user to an intermediate page (before the confirmation page) to do some other logic. That intermediate page performs whatever logic based on a querystring flag you sent with the redirect from the checkout page This intermediate page also serves as an error page. So if any logic in the intermediatePage.aspx.cs fails I'm setting a message to be displayed on this page to the user If I refresh, that querystring value is still in the url..hence when it hits my Page_Load again, then the server-side logic is called & run again and I don't want this to happen The avoid this behavior/problem, the logical next step is to do a redirect back to the same page if they refresh (not sure how you'd catch that) to get rid of that querystring But when you redirect back to the same page your error message is gone, lost in the redirect therefore you end up showing them the same page but all values for the error message are now gone I do not want to solve this with Javascript either. I am not sure the best way to handle this.

    I'm working on a website that needs google maps, and testing is being a bitch because refreshing the page very often fails (hangs endlessly) so I need to go to a different page and come back in order to test the new version of the code. I have noticed that refreshing the page only fails on pages with maps, so I'm guessing these are related. Does anyone have a clue?

  • Meteor: how to update DOM via Javascript without a page refresh?

    UPDATE: It looks like this script may be the catalyst I'm looking for. Will test it and answer/close this question if so. I'm sure I'll find the answer to this eventually, but I'm putting it out there now, in case someone else knows it right off... I am using RaphaelJS to manipulate the DOM (adds a bunch of SVG tags to an identified DIV), and I want to re-render those specific DOM parts, if there's an update to the MongoDB collection. As an example: -Let's say that I have a collection called PiePieces. -When the page is first rendered/ called, let's pretend that the number of pieces in the collection is 4. -I programmatically add a pie piece using console: PiePieces.insert({...}) -I want the page to update like it would for a standard handlebars binding situation, but the problem is, the new entry needs to go through the Raphael script, which performs direct DOM manipulation. So, the logic would go something like this: MongoDB collection update event - Client function call to manipulate DOM - DOM modified/ page updated without a refresh. I've tried implementing this by reading values from the DOM itself, and I can get the updated DOM, but the entire page refreshes and/or I have to manually refresh the page, OR the DOM tree isn't completed yet, and so it's blank until I refresh. Can you point me in the right direction, maybe with a small code snippet/example? (if something similar already exists, just tell me where and I'll go digging) Thanks in advance!   • DropDownList always does full-page postback, the first time it fires.

    I have an ASP.NET page using the AJAX library. There is a dropdownlist inside an UpdatePanel, which on index changing is supposed to update a different UpdatePanel to modify a grid control. But after the page first comes up, and you adjust the ddl, the entire page postbacks, followed by a (correct) partial postback. After this one time, every other usage of the ddl performs correctly, trigger partial postbacks. Both the panel and the ddl are being added from code. The UP is Conditional updates and ChildrenAsTriggers = true. The dropdownlist is AutoPostBack true and has an event set up on SelectedIndexChanged. So what is going on? I've tried adjusting every setting I can think of and still the page completely refreshes once, then works fine after that.

    If I have my page file turned on in Windows as opposed to having it turned off as shown below: Would having the page file turned on decrease the life expectancy on my Hard Drive? If so, how much would the life decrease say with regular use? (4 hours a day) I'm thinking it would decrease some just because there would be more writing to the hard drive, but I wasn't sure if it would be too negligible to even matter.

    I need to take a particular action if a user logs in from the home page. In my LogOnModel, I have a hidden field: @Html.Hidden("returnUrl", Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) In my Controller, I need to check if that value is the Home page or not. In the example below, I'm checking to see if the user is on a particular page ("Account/ResetPassword"). Is there a way to check to see if they're on the home page without resorting to regular expressions?   • Should I still use querystrings for page number, etc, when using ASP.NET 4 URL Routing?

    I am switching from Intelligencia's UrlRewriter to the new web forms routing in ASP.NET 4.0. I have it working great for basic pages, however, in my e-commerce site, when browsing category pages, I previously used querystrings that were built into my pager control to control paging. An old url (with UrlRewriting) would be: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17 I now have a MapPageRoute defined in global.asax as: routes.MapPageRoute("category-browse", "Category/{name}_{id}", ~/CategoryPage.aspx"); This works great. Now, somebody clicks to go to page 2. Previously I would have just tacked on ?page=2 as the querystring. Now, How do I handle this using web forms routing? I know I can do something like: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17/page/2 But in addition to page, I can have filters, age ranges, gender, etc. Should I just keep defining routes that handle these variables, or should I continue using querystrings and can I define a route that allows me to use my querstrings like before?

  • How do I show the number of images attached to a post on the image attachment page?

    I use the image attachment page to show images attached to a post one by one, in a slideshow sort of affect. I'd like to be able to display the total number of images attached to the parent post and the number of the particular image that's being shown on any given attachment page so you see the picture and the words "Image 3 of 15" for example. I've played around with some different code and can get the total number of images to show on the post page, but when I insert the code on the attachment page template it always shows "1 of 1." I was having this problem a while ago and decided to re-address it, unfortunately I don't have the original code that I used and can't remember it. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi, I'm using php on apache with mysql. I want to let users enter a url into their browser to see a custom user page for themselves, just like twitter does. For example, they could enter urls like: www.mysite.com/johndoe www.mysite.com/janedoe and see that user's page. How could I do this with php and apache? I don't want to create a folder on disk for every user like above, I'd instead kind of like to catch the url and generate the page on the fly for them, Thanks
