• Desgining a database with flexible user profile

  Hi, Am working on a design where I can have flexible attributes for a user & am confused how to continue the design of the schema. I made a table where I kept system needed information called users id username password Now, I wish to create a profile table and have one to one relation where all the other attributes in profile table such as email, first name, last name..etc. My question is, is there a way to add a third table in which even profile will be flexible if my clients need to create a new attribute he/she won't need any customization to the code? • Domain entities into (ASP.NET) Session, or better some kind of DTOs?

  Currently we put Domain Objects into our ASP.NET Sessions. Now we considering moving from InProc sessions to state server. This requires that all objects inside session are serializable. Instead to annotate all objects with the [Serializable] attribute, we thought about creating custom-session objects (DTO Session Objects?), which only contain the information we need: CONS: Entities must be reloaded, which requires additional DB round-trips PROS: Session State is smaller Session information is more specific (could be a CON) No unneeded annotation of Domain-Entities What do you think? Should we use some kind of DTOs to store inside the session, or should we stick with god old entities?

• Python lxml - returns null list

  I cannot figure out what is wrong with the XPATH when trying to extract a value from a webpage table. • Handling "other" option in dropdown select with free text input field

  Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle a dropdown list where one of the options "other" shows a hidden text field (via jQuery), where the user can then enter text. Should both the dropdown and the input field be given the same "name" attribute, then server side code runs a check on the values of each in order to know what one is the active value - e.g if the value of the select box is "other", then check the value of the text input field - if this isn't the default value ("enter text"), then it's ok to use this value and save it to the database. Is this a messy approach to this problem?

  I want to send data to server by enclosing it in a form. However, in asp.net I can't use more than one form with runat=server attribute. Then what is the use of using multiple forms on asp.net page. I can't access the data on the server? Like facebook enclose each post feedback data in a form and then submits this to server. How to do this in asp.net. I have to send data to server when some action occurs on a post but will have to store hiddenfield and read it with javascript is it not seems messy?

For example, let's suppose I have a class called X with two Attributes, A and B, and I have the following objects, in that order: object1 = A = "a", B = "h" object2 = A = "a", B = "c" object3 = A = "b", B = "x" object4 = A = "b", B = "b" and I want to order the list by A attribute first, and when they are equals, by B element, so the order would be: "a" "c" "a" "h" "b" "b" "b" "x" As far as I know, the OrderBy method order by one parameter.   I need to dynamically load a CSS stylesheet into a page that's on a different domain. How can I get the complete URL of the JS file to use in the href attribute of the stylesheet? For instance, here is the structure: http://bla.com/js/script.js http://bla.com/css/style.css I want to dynamically load the stylesheet into a page http://boo.net/index.html. The problem is, I don't know the bla.com bit in advance, just the fact that the stylesheet is in ../css/ relative to the JS file. The script is, of course, included on index.html. jQuery's fine too.

  Hi, Hoping someone could pls let me know how to prevent the symbol "&" from being replaced by "&amp;" within my URL, specifically within javascript? Just to expand on requirement, I am getting my url from an oracle database table, which I then use within Oracle Application Express, to set the src attribute of an iframe to this url. FYI, the url stored in the Oracle table is actually stored correctly, i.e. http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&f=mydir/Summary.xml what appears in my use when trying to pass over into iframe src using javascript is: http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&amp;f=mydir/Summary.xml which basically returns a page cannot be found Hope this clarified further my issue. • (WinForm/.net) Databind List Of Classes To A DataGridView. But Not Show Certain Public Properties

  I'm not even sure if i'm doing this correctly. But basically I have a list of objects that are built out of a class. From there, I am binding the list to a datagrid view that is on a Windows Form (C#) From there, it shows all the public properties of the object, in the datagrid view. However there is some properties that i still need accessible from other parts of my application, but aren't really required to be visible in the DataGridView. So is there an attribute or something similar that I can write above the property to exclude it from being shown. P.S. Im binding at runtime. So i cannot edit the columns via the designer. P.P.S. Please no answers of just making public variables (Although if that is the only way, let me know :)).

  I am working with Tomcat 5.5.x with Struts 1.2 to run a rather large website (large w.r.t. source code). I'm looking to add OpenID to my website, mostly to access attribute exchange to help accelerate the registration process. Every Java implementation for OpenID I have attempted to use will cause a ServletException. Tracing this has been very difficult, but it seems merely instancing any class that makes use of Apache HttpClient will cause the crash. Is this a configuration problem I can address in the JVM, or is it positively wrong to try to initiate an outbound Http request from within an inbound Http request?

• Using non-Railsy route to prepopulate a form

  I have many instances of a Rails model, Post. When viewing an individual post, I'd like to create a form to create a child of Post called Comment. I'd like to prepopulate this form with a hidden tag that contains the post_id which is the foreign key in Comment. The Railsy way to do this is to create a fancy-ish route such as: /comments/new/post/:post_id However, this gunks up the routes file and doesn't leave much flexibility. Let's say I want to create a link somewhere else that prepopulates a different attribute of the form...then I'd have to add another route for this. So I think I'm going to create urls like this on /posts/show/:id: /comments/new?comment[post_id]=<%= @post.id %> This way I can add any other attributes as I need. I know the plus side associated with this, now what are the downsides?

  When protyping we often do empty anchors. A very common way to do this is to do something like: <a href="#">Go here</a> But if the client clicks this link, the page will scroll to the top. But if we leave out the href attribute, the link won't behave like a link. I've see stuff like: <a href="javascript;">Go here</a> But it doesn't look right. Any other ideas?

  Using a modal plugin for jquery, I'm opening an iframe in a modal with a click event and setting the source attribute to a relative url (should be within https). The page containing the click is an authenticated ssl page. In IE and Safari, this works as expected. In Chrome and Firefox, the source url is opened in http not https. If I set the source to an absolute url using https, same result. I have given the [Authorize] attribute for each view index method. After the session complete when we select any view then the page inside the project main page will be redirecting.   What I'm planning to do is a) parse a file for some lines matching a regular expression b) store the match in some sort of database / file so I don't have to do the parsing again and again c) call another program passing the matches as arguments While I can imagine how to do a) and c), I'm a little bit unsure about b). The matches are of the form key:attribute1:attribute2:attribute3 where attribute 2 may be optional. I'm thinking of storing the results in a simple database but the problem is the database needs to available on a number of Unix platform for the program to work. Are there any (simple) databases which can be found on any Unix platforms? Or should I use some sort of index-sequential file?

• exactly what does rake db:migrate do?

  Does rake db:migrate only add new migrations, or does it drop all migrations/changes and build everything new? I think rake is throwing an error because it is trying to access a table attribute in migration 040 that was deleted in migration 042. somehow my DB and rake are out of synch and I want to fix them. for you experts out there - is it common for rake to get out of synch with migrations? how can I avoid this (no, I do not hand-edit my schema or rake files).

• Can I have different name and id attributes on a form element?

  Hi all, I have a web form with usual elements (first name, last name, etc). The Postback URL is a different website altogether as the form is intented to post lead information to another website. The site that accepts the lead is expecting First Name to come over as "FName", and Last Name to come over as "LName". Is there any way I can set the ID of a textbox to "txtFName", but submit it over the wire as "FName"? I tried changing the name attribute, but at runtime it sets the name = id.

  Does anyone know how to eliminate the x and y params when you use image_submit_tag with a get method? I have a simple search form, and using get to pass the value in the url. When I use image_submit_tag, it also appends the x and y coords, so I get urls like http://example.com?q=somesearchterm&x=15&y=12 When I have used submit_tag, I can use the :name = nil attribute (was in one of Ryan Bates' Railscasts), but it doesn't seem to work for image_submit_tag. Granted it doesn't affect functionality, but I don't need them and would like them quieted.

It is working correctly as shown, however instead of using field.name I want to use the class of the input as the array key but when i try to do this the class is shown as undefined. Could anybody help with this?

Each time a link is clicked, the attribute src is printed inside of the dialog box so that each link has a unique output in the dialog. My problem is simply that only the first src title is in every box and I would like to change that as well with each click. I separated the line containing title to show the problem. • How to programatically access web sites that are blocked by my work?

  I'm interested in creating a web application that will let me view sites that my work won't let me go to. I have a server where I can host it that I have access to from my work. I've had some success by using the method described in this article. Unfortunately any images and css (basically any html that has a "SRC" attribute) are still being blocked. This means up to 29th in February if it's a leap year, and 30/31 for other months respectively. Currently, it only allows years starting with 2 (2012) and months up to 12 (December). But it limits the day to 29 regardless of which month. Can anybody help me fix it?
