• QR Codes and Short Links - Please Take A Look [closed]

  I'm looking for a way to create a QR Code and a shortened link when a form is submitted. I have the QR Code bit, but the link is too long for me and the QR Code looks scary and complicated. The way it works is; the user types in (in this instance) a contract number. Then, a folder is created on the server of that contract number. (www.mysite.com/QR/$contractnumber). Then, using PHP again, I create a QR Code through Google because I know that every QR code will be linking to the same place, just a different ending of the link. The only bit that changes is the $POST... I was wondering if there was a way to shorten the link before it goes to Google? It would have to be through php. The user enters the contact number in the form, then that number(usually around 5/6 digits) will be entered into a already existing command? I'm not an expert in anything, I just know some really random snippets of code... And HTML and CSS, of course. Any help would be appreciated and judging by the few days I have been searching this, I think it might help a few people in the future. I would also like to confirm that the solution can't be one of this visual URLShorteners. If it is, it just needs to be the back-end of it, built into a existing form and QR Generator. Simple?

• Bayesian content filter for vbulletin [on hold]

  I've been tasked with coming up with a tool to automatically flag some posts for moderator attention on a large vbulletin forum. It's not spam per se, but the task has a lot in common with the sort of handling that might be done by a spam protection plugin (a mod in vbulletin speak). There's only so much I can say, but the task does not involve bad users, so much as particular kinds of posts which the moderators need to be aware of. Filtering out user registrations and links is therefore not useful, and we are talking about posts by real human users. What I'm looking for is an existing bayesian classification plugin, or something that I can study to get an understanding of how to do the vbulletin side of the interface in order to build such a thing. Ie I'd need ways for moderators to list flagged posts, and to correct the classification of posts which have been mis-classified. Ideally I want a 3 way split with an "unsure" category in order to reduce what has to be reviewed to find any mis-classifications. Any pointers? I've searched around a bit, and so far what I've found has been more or less entirely targetted at intervening in sign-ups (mostly using stopforumspam), captchas, and use of external services like akismet which are spam specific. • Google showing meta descriptions from other pages in the SERPs

  Recently I added some content to my website and submitted a sitemap files to Google. Now that Google has indexed those pages, I discovered that some of words and sentences that are listed in Google that lead to my website are having their meta descriptions somehow mixed up. Here is how it works: After I put a sentence on Google to check for my website ranking, I can see a page title in the results of page1, a link to page1, and a description from page2. Since my website is a forum, if Google mixes the links of threads, it leads my users to different kind of material that they were looking for. Is there anything I can do about it?

• How to tackle archived who-is personal data with opt-out?

  As far as I understand it, it is possible to opt-out (in the UK at least) of having your address details displayed on who-is information of a domain for non-trading individuals. What I want to know is, after opt-out, how do individuals combat archived data? Is there any enforcement of this? How many who-is websites are there which archive data and what rights do we have to force them to remove that data without paying absurd fees? In the case of capitulating to these scoundrels, what point is it in paying for the removal of archived data if that data can presumably resurface on another who-is repository? In other words, what strategy is one supposed to take, besides being wiser after the fact?

• Re-Route Mail to a port other than 25

  Is there a way to route mail to another port? I have an email account attached to my laptop that I'd like to be able to send and receive mail from. Due to mobility, I'll be passing through various networks that will probably block this port. My dynamic DNS provider allows me to utilize web-forwards for MX domains; is this possible? where I can web forward to a domain:port which is managed by my DNS provider when I traverse between networks. If not, is there a way? Of course i could use web-mail or relay-forwarding from my home server, but that's not geeky enough.

  Is there any way to learn for sure why Google penalized a specific site? I think about situation when webmaster/site administrator is aware about Google rules and is sure they aren't breaking any, but the site is penalized nevertheless. The only information you get from Google is that they processed your reconsideration request but they neither say what is the result nor what is the penalty reason if they keep the site penalized. You can try to get information on Google webmasters forum or here but most of the time these are only speculations. Considering the site administrator tried to find out what's wrong but failed, is there a source which can tell what is the problem?

• AdSense link units targeting better keywords?

  I have one link unit above my navigation which targets exact keywords on what my site is about, on contrary my AdSense for content Leaderboard and Wide Skyscraper show ads that are totally opposite from my keyword, while my ctr increased for about 10 times with link unit I noticed CPC is lower also (but that was just based on one day, today is higher). Is it so bad to completely get rid of standard content ads and put link units, because this way I earn so little for that site but I think that is because smart pricing (accidental clicks on ads that my users are not interested)? I earn in whole day with about 25-35 clicks as much as keyword tool shows for only one click, my site is first for the topic? I really don't know what to do. Has anyone had similar situation or can give some advice?

• Location-Based redirection and duplication in sub-directories affecting SEO

  I currently own the website www.xyz.com. The website has a sub-directory for each of the 3 target countries: .../en-US/ (United States), .../es-MX/ (Mexico), and .../es-DO/ (Dominican Republic). I have two main questions about this setup: Currently, the main domain/root (xyz.com) contains a blank index.php file, but I would like for a user to be redirected to one of the sub-directories based on their regional location. What is the best way to accomplish this? I have looked at using browser language-based redirection, but how would I know whether to direct a user to the MX or DO site if the browser language is set to spanish? Is there a way to detect a user's geographic location? Also, the 3 websites are practically identical except they all have 3 unique color schemes and the US site is in english while the MX and DO sites are in spanish. My problem is that I believe GoogleBot is penalizing/banning my site because the spanish text on the MX and DO pages are nearly identical and are thus marked as duplicates/spam. Is there a way to avoid this?

  I am a newbie here, please let me know if I'm using wrong webmaster terms. I am currently setting up a VPS for a multi site WordPress. The VPS uses Debian 6 LNMP setup and the DNS is being taken care by another service. Currently the VPS is running non multi site WordPress with -+ 83 MB RAM out of 128MB. As far as I know the performance is relative to the number of request, not the number of sites in the multi site setup. The question How do I calculate maximum number of request in with that setup? If the information is not enough, what other factor do I need to know? Thank you in advance.

• access to site owner not working

  I made a website it works for everyone except for the site owner, who cannot access the site. He gets a server could not be found error. I went to his house and the issue occurs for all of his devices (PC, laptop, iPhone using WiFi) when I turn WiFi off the iPhone it works. So I thought it was a problem on his router so I reset is router to default factory settings but it still does not work, I have flushed his DNS cache and his browser cache. But nothing seems to help. He cannot even PING the server using the domain name. However when he uses the IP address he can see the site fine. I looked in cpanel for an blocked IP addresses but cannot see anything. What could be stopping just him from accessing the site via domainname and not the IP address? Site details are: PHP, osCommerce it is hosted by site5 on my reseller account.

When my site comes up in a Google search, there are 2 links displayed underneath: I believe these links are called "Google sitemap" and my question is how to configure them in Wordpress. Because while the right link is pointing to the /ueber-mich URL at the website, the left link was pointing to an non-existing /imprint and I had to add that webpage as a workaround for now. And I'd like to change the /imprint to German /impressum anyway (currently I use mod_rewrite to redirect). UPDATE: Dear downvoters and movers, would you mind to READ my question please? My question has been about how to configure Google sitemap links in Wordpress. • Google Analytics - bad experiences? (esp. adult content)

  I work for a rather large adult website, and we're currently not using Google Analytics. There is an internal debate going on about whether we should start using Analytics, but there is hestitation from certain parties. The main argument is that they fear that Google will get too much insight into our website, and might even block us from the index as a result based on our adult content. Has anyone here ever had such an experience, or know stories about bad experiences with Google Analytics in such a manner? I personally think it will only improve our website if we were able to use Analytics, but the dev team was asked to look into possible negative effects. Any help would be appreciated.

  I've been using PHP-5.4.3 for about a month now, and today, I decided to make a switch to PHP-5.5.5, I downloaded the source code, and placed it in C:/php (also renaming the folder php-5.5.5 to php) and I added server variables, as usual C:/php/ <-- but here I got stuck. Because, usually I appended the php.exe at the end, which was found inside the PHP folder so, I could be able to access PHP from the command line, or start the built-in server, but now, I can't find this file, and I can't find a way to start the server from the command line either. Anyone help.

  I am having an e-commerce site and current URL structure is like this: www.example.com/category1 [Category landing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category [sub-category listing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/product-name [Product Details page] I am finding it difficult to identify from the URLs whether the URL is category landing page or a listing page or a product details page (primarily in Google Analytics). To solve this problem, I am thinking of adding qualifiers in the URL as follows: www.example.com/category1/cat-land [Category landing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/cat-list [sub-category listing page] www.example.com/category1/sub-category/product-name/prod-details [Product Details page] Original URLs would be redirected to new URLs using 301 permanent redirect. • Tracking 502 bad gateway error

  I moved my Wordpress site to WP Engine and now I constantly get 502 errors. I spoke with support and they said that its because I have a lot of DB queries. I ran some tests and my frontpage only has 95 queries and page size is about 500kb. Most inner pages are around 60 queries. All queries are very short. Some people tell me its common with WP Engine because they run nginx. Why do I keep getting these errors and is there a way to track how many of them happen on daily basis? P.S. WP Engine log is empty so cant see the 502's there.

Just want the user to click it and nothing happen, the child of that menu item will already be being displayed without a click. • Domain mapping issues

  I have two domain names - .com & .co.uk bought with 123-reg and just one student Windows hosting pack associated with the .co.uk domain. The .com domain is the main one which people would be trying to access, so I just mapped the domain to the hosting this morning. The problem is that I would really like it to be functional by tomorrow morning and the usual waiting time is 24-48 hours. Is there point in stopping the process and trying with forward it with CNAME record instead, does it take less time? (I can just go back and do proper domain mapping during the weekend) Also, is there a possible way to check whether the domain mapping has been done correctly before these 24-48 hours? From some computers I get 404 Error on homepage.
