  • SQL Server 2008 Replication Promotion

    I have a 4 node cluster, 1 subscriber and 3 publishers, all running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The intention is that if the subscriber goes down, we can use one of the publishers to quickly build up its replacement. Our testing reveals a problem though: the subcriber databases all have Not For Replication set to Yes on the identity columns so that they can maintain the identity set in the subscriber. This causes a problem when they become subscribers because now we don't have identity insert functionality: we get a primary key error. Any way to "promote" a subscriber to publisher?

    ASP.NET session state lets you associate a server-side string or object dictionary containing state data with a particular HTTP client session. A session is defined as a series of requests issued by the same client within a certain period of time, and is managed by associating a session ID with each unique client. The ID is supplied by the client on each request, either in a cookie or as a special fragment of the request URL. The session data is stored on the server side in one of the supported session state stores, which include in-process memory, SQL Server™ database, and the ASP.NET State Server service. The latter two modes enable session state to be shared among multiple Web servers on a Web farm and do not require server affinity.     We have installed PHPMyAdmin on a windows machine running IIS 7.0. We are able to connect to MySQL using command-line, But we are not able to connect using PHPMyAdmin. The error displayed is: Error #1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server. Can somebody please help?   • How to get Windows Server 2008 VM to use multiple cores

    I have a Windows Server 2008 machine running in VirtualBox. On initial installation, only one processor was made available, but now I want to run it as a multiprocessor machine. I have made all four cores available in the VirtualBox settings (as well as enabling VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging), but Task Manager still only shows one CPU. However, the four CPU cores are visible in Device Manager under Processors. In the event log on startup, I can see the following relevant events: EventLog.6009 Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 6.00.6002 Service Pack 2 Multiprocessor Free Kernel-Processor-Power.4 Processor 0 exposes the following: 1 idle state(s), 0 performance state(s), 0 throttle state(s) Kernel-Processor-Power.4 Processor 255 exposes the following: 0 idle state(s), 0 performance state(s), 0 throttle state(s) Kernel-Processor-Power.4 Processor 255 exposes the following: 0 idle state(s), 0 performance state(s), 0 throttle state(s) Kernel-Processor-Power.4 Processor 255 exposes the following: 0 idle state(s), 0 performance state(s), 0 throttle state(s) How can I make this system actually boot up as a multiprocessor machine?

    So I have this little server that I've been working on as a hobby. But due to changes in living arrangements I have move and it won't have access to a wired lan. So I need to install a wireless adapter i had sitting around. But most tutorials I have run across are either out dated, or about ubuntu desktop and talk about things using a GUI. So my question is firstly is there a utility for identifying and downloading drivers for new hardware. that would save my having this problem in the future. If not, how do i go about installing said wireless NIC? ~N

  • Run Python Server at Startup

    Hello, I've got a few Python based servers that I need to run, and would like them to start automatically when I start my Ubuntu Server box. What is the best way to execute them like this? I was hoping I could write a Bash script and use Screen to get them running in the background, where I can check on them every now and then, but where as echo screen -d -m python works just fine, echo screen -d -m `sudo python /home/matt/tornadoServer/tornadoDeploy.py` doesn't, with no error messages. Is that something to do with the spaces? Even though I did surround it with backquotes? I also tried: WEB="screen -d -m `sudo python /home/matt/tornadoServer/tornadoDeploy.py`" echo $WEB As a way of escaping the spaces, but no luck. What's Bash scripting way to do this? And, once the Bash script works, where can I put it to make it execute on startup?

  • Windows Server 2008R2 IIS7.5, Requests getting 401 status

    We have a web site running in windows server 2008r2 iis7.5 and we are seeing several errors reported from our global error handler saying that "Request Timed Out". I matched up one to the IIS log file and see the request took 135116 (presumably milliseconds) had an sc-status of 401 an sc-sub0status of 0 and an sc-win32-status of 64. 2 requests failed in these way but lots of surrounding requests (1979 successful requests vs 2 fails) for the same user went through perfectly fine- with the same cs-username which makes a 401 seem a little odd. The target of the requests is an ASP.Net web service's web method called by the .net client library- it's called a lot of times per user (3 times per second) to keep a page updated. We're getting some users reportng seeing a freezing effect and I think this may be the cause, any ideas? Peter

  • Assign PowerShell script to run at startup using PowerShell on Window Server 2012

    I'm trying to write a PowerShell script that will run when a Windows 2012 instance is created on AWS using the configuration tools provided by AWS. My problem is that I want to change the name of the machine once it has started up, restart the machine and carry on set up process after. The main reason for this is that one of the applications, Boundary, installed in the set up process takes the name of the server when first installed. It is then doesn't seem possible to change it's name in their portal. Ideally I would have two PowerShell scripts, one to start the set up process, initialised through AWS and another that runs the first time the machine restarts. This second script would ideally be queued to run on the next start by the initial set up script. So I guess my question are: Is this possible? How would I go about doing this. My Google foo is letting me down here so any answers would be appreciated.

  • Having trouble getting startup scripts to work in Server 2003

    Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am having trouble getting my startup scripts to run correctly on the domain I am administering. Before anyone gets upset and says "go read xxx article from microsoft",... I have. I am simply missing something or not understanding it properly. I understand how to assign the script, what I am curious about is where exactly it should be placed in the Windows folder structure. I have been able to get them to work by creating a share folder called "scripts" and pointing to that exact unc pathname IE \servername\scripts\xxx.bat. However, I would like to do it properly, would someone please tell me where they should be placed in Win2003 server, and what the path name should be when assigning a group policy to do something that applies to computer specific properties? Your assistance is very much appreciated by a junior admin trying to learn some new tricks!

  • Cannot open SQL 2005 database in SQL server Management Studio 2008 R2 on Windows 7

    I have Windows 7 64bit as my OS + SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. I can connect to SQL Databases (2008), but cannot connect to a SQL 2005 database. I can, however, connect to the 2005 SQL Database on a PC that has Windows XP as the OS and also has SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. So it seems that it works fine on XP but not on Windows 7 (32 or 64bit). is this an Operating System issue? Error message: Cannot connect to OMRSQLV016\PRODSQL002. =================================== A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.   • Problem installing Windows Server 2008 R2 on Xen 3.0

    Hi there folks, I've been googling this for a few hours now and not really getting anywhere. We have a Xen 3.0 host which I'm trying to install a copy of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition onto as a guest OS - but the install hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen when it starts running the installer. Is this is a known issue with the version of Xen we're running (I know it's positively ancient)? Is there a workaround for it at all? We've successfully got a great number of vanilla 2008 servers running on it, it appears it's an issue specific to R2. Bryan

  • Windows 7 Laptops "unable to find logon server"

    In the school I work in we have a large number (500+) of Windows 7 laptops on a Meru Wireless system and Server 2008 R2 Servers. We have an appalingly large failure rate where a student or staff member tries to logon (to the laptop joined to the domain) and is met by "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request". I've seen this question and this one and while removing and re-joining to the domain works, it's highly time consuming, irritating, and we (I) have more important things to concentrate on. The only MS KB article I can find is regarding a read-only domain controller (which ours isn't) and I'm at my wits end. Ultimately, is there a definitve cause and answer to this or am I stuck removing and re-joining the laptops?

    hello guys i have a exchange server running but there is a problem. when i use the web access and i click new email ad i click on the paperclip(to add a attachment) i select a file and then i click Add to upload it. but when my Oulook Web Access hangs its stays loading 10 or 20 seconds. and then it ask for my login again my username and password. when i fill my username and password in again the same happens its stays loading for 10 or 20 seconds and then it ask again for my username and password. can somebody help me on this pleas.

  • Set security on pattern of sub folders (Server 2003)

    I have a folder structure similar to the one shown below these paragraphs. How do I change security on every 'Photos' folder without clicking through each individually in Windows Explorer? There are about 50 top level folders (Bob, Jim, Eva, etc, etc) which have the same layout of folders inside. I am keen for any suggestions, either scripting or GUI. I am on Windows Server 2003. Cheap/free method would be good, as the company is part of a registered charity. Ideally I would like to do this via DFS path. E.G. \\mycompany.local\Shared\Staff\Bob\ Thanks for reading.   • Temp files created in every folder in Windows Server 2003

    So we have some folders which are shared over the AD Domain (Windows Server 2003). It was just noticed that in 2 of those folders (which contain only Excel and Word files), whenever a file is opened and closed, the temp file which was opened corresponding to that file still remains. Apparently, this's been going on for the past couple of years (which has led to an insane amount of temp files in each folder/subfolder under those shared folders). These shared folders are under the D:drive and not C: drive. There is only one group (containing 2 users) who access the said folders. I cannot understand if this has to do with the settings/permissions for the User/Group/Individual Client machine. For now, I have manually deleted all the temp files from each folder/subfolder. While this is not critical at the moment, I'd still like to clear this up. Also, it takes an additional fraction of a second to open folders that contains more than 10,000 temp files. Today, Baccetto calls the project “a fantastic experience,” and he is a true believer in the benefits of a close relationship between IT implementers and their line-of-business peers. Through his partnership with Jesiele Lima, then VGSA IT manager, Baccetto and Eaton’s South American operations team came to understand several important principles of business and IT. Here he shares nine tips managers should consider when working on an enterprise technology project. 1. Make it a business project, not an IT project. All levels of functional management must have ownership, responsibility, and accountability for the success of the implementation. 2. Share responsibility.
